  1. I don't know what kind of artists you've been dealing with, most I know wouldn't give a shit and just draw the furry stuff anyway (if they knew how to, some people can draw humans just fine but have a problem sticking cat faces on them somehow). Alternatively, just say you're a furry. I don't think any furry artists run a sort of "honor check" where they have to ensure you're a furry before drawing you any art, so I'm going to presume it's your own fault for intently specifying you're not a furry as you request these commissions, which yes, is a bit weird. Yep. It seems like there is something Nik is leaving out about the interactions.
  2. Nine people voted for nuke, during a time when we only had twenty players. Nuke requires fifteen readied up, and I think we had like, eleven. It was less of a shitstorm, and more of a "the round isn't going to start!" sort of thing.
  3. I'm here to play devil's advocate again. My biggest issue with this, is that he has had chances. There is a point where you can't keep slapping somebody on the wrist and telling them "no, bad". Sure, if he gets unbanned, and does it again, he can just get rebanned. Sure, that "works", but it would turn the process of a cycle of somebody being banned, requesting an appeal, being unbanned, and then banned again. Is it a very nice thing to do? Of course not, but after a time there has to be a conequence to somebody's actions, and if a permeant ban is set in place, there probably is a good reason it's been left there. I could highlight the two ban evades, but it will get nowhere besides "that was justified" or "that was no justified". What I will make note of, is the mention that you keep bringing up the fact that you /can't/ stop multikeying. You state that you can't make a promise of not stopping, but will attempt to. That's all well and good, but admitting to the fact that you may still multikey, isn't very supportive in your cause. If you know it's hard for you to multikey, I'd suggest you wait until a time you know you would not multikey, if that should ever happen. Just because you're being honest about multikeying being hard to stop, shouldn't mean you're void of the punishment that came with all the multikeying.
  4. Someone mentioned it in OOC earlier today, not sure if that's where it started though. So is it just word of mouth for the most part, at the moment?
  5. As Gollee stated above me, as people have stated in the thread, people were following what the Nuke Ops said. The deaths weren't caused from people revolting or trying to attack Nuke Ops.
  6. That is actually a really good point. Why do I even bother if I will probably be a piece of shit once again? Just forget it, close this appeal or just put your own opinion in. I have suggested a probation, I thought it would ease you up, but apparently it did not. I also appreciate your sarcasm and bitterness. This is the issue. While yes, he should have come off better, so should you. Seeing this is an appeal, you should have attempted to take a better stance in this situation. Stating "close this appeal", and all this makes you seem like you're getting agitated over the lack of support, and less-than-stellar response from an individual. Am I supporting the way Johhny replied? No, but you may want to realize how your word choice may come off as, seeing as this is an appeal for you personally.
  7. I recall you a good amount. At the time, people made slight jokes about your name being close to Volt. Here is my problem with your unban appeal. It focuses on what the server can do for you if you get unbanned. Instead, tell people what you will bring to the server. People have a bad experience with you. What do intend to do to correct the bad blood? You highlighted the staff, but not the players. On the subject of staff, it seems like you made the unban based on what somebody would want to hear. You said sorry, and you told Skull how cool he was. It seems too generic, to me. Now, I support second chances. That said, you personally just said you have been banned multiple times. Maybe you learned nothing? How do we know you won't do it again? You stated that you have a hard time coming into communities, but you are atttempting to enter another community despite that. Why would anything differ from the last time you were unbanned?
  8. ~TheAmazingRathel~ It feels like people are getting stupider every shift now. #frigginmorons Jade Rathel
  9. This actually doesn't seem like too bad of an event idea. You have a point though, addressing the matter at hand.
  10. Jade also went around to the other side of the bridge that round. While she was relaying to the events of the bomb to the crew, a Nuke Ops operative (Sparky) walked out the door closet to her, and shot her multiple times. This resulted in her being instantly sent into crit, and lost a leg. It was at this point, that the Operative told her to "get down". Which was, after he had basically killed her. The only reason she managed to survive, was that Nasir came by and grabbed her, and got her away from the Nuke Op. I fully believe this round should serve as an example on what not to do as Nuke Ops.
  11. This is an issue. The bad thing is, a lot of security officers believe that this is a good approach to taking care of the situation, as well. Flashbangs make sense in certain situations, but if it's obvious that a character is attempting to roleplay something, don't throw a flashbang at them. At the same time, Security isn't the best at dealing with people aiming guns at them. I recall Nuke Ops targeting SMGs at two officers one round, only for a cadet to run up and try to flash them. Once they got shot point blank in the head. They began stating that their head hurt afterwards, although they still stayed around, to try and run at the Nuke Ops once more.
  12. Player Feedback There are areas that we all need to improve on, should it be ICly or OOCly, which is what this thread is for. Here, you can ask people what they feel about you as a player, attitude-wise, roleplay-wise, or anything else. Please do not make a post about somebody, without their permission. On the other hand, don't ask to receive feedback, and then respond in an extremely offended manner, if it is not necessary. What This Thread Is For: - Feedback on how well a player overall behaves. - Feedback on areas a player could improve in. - Constructive criticism. What This Thread Is Not For: - Feedback on specific IC characters. A thread for that can be found here. - Negative criticism. (Meaning, do not come here just to tell a player how terrible they are at (x), (y), and (z), and then give them no tips on how to change). _________________________________________________________________________________________ Dunno how well this will be received, but I assumed that people may want feedback on themselves as a players sometimes.
  13. Since I just now realized we had never gotten a Project Zomboid thread up here, I feel like it's time to discuss it. Project Zomboid is an open-world, zombie survival game, with two preset maps, and a few community created ones. The basic gist of it is, that you're going to die, and you have to do everything in your power to delay it. From setting up a safehouse, to taking care of the undead for whole blocks, Project Zomboid is pretty fun. That said, it's still in early alpha, and while NPCs have not been added yet, they seemingly should help bring more life to the game, something that also should bring the replay-ability up. You can get it over on Steam, or the official webiste for $15. There is also a demo you guys can check out, to see if it's something you want to try or not. One of my most prized safehouses I managed to set up, some time ago. Total time survived was a little more than eight months.
  14. I like how she just takes the SCP logo and is like, "yep, my character has this." This is obviously nothing more than an ERP character.
  15. As a story I like to tell often, I started on LLA, back in 2011. This is when the Security area, bridge, court room, and brig were all connected. My first game was like a lot of people's, in that I started as Security. This was before Space Law was a thing and such. So, mid-way through the round, myself as Phoenix Rock arrests somebody, and I jacked to the timer up to about fifteen minutes for theft, without asking anybody. The HoS later called me into his office, and told me what I had done was wrong. Not giving too craps, I figured out how to grab people, and called the HoS to the security airlock. Once there, I grabbed him, while still in front of him, opened the airlock, and threw 'him'. Of course, instead of spacing the HoS, I spaced myself. The HoS had been the Host as well, so that was pretty fun. I managed to get almost the entire staff against me, besides the Host, and once he left, so did I. Thus began my year long break from SS13, which later turned me in just server hopping around, until I finally came across Apollo.
  16. As a clarification, there aren't any paperwork that are 'twenty-pages'. I'm sure you were purposefully exaggerating it, but still.
  17. This thread is so aggressive in some parts, it's not even funny. I'm going to be blunt about the issue, and upon re-reading it, I realized that I came off as amazingly aggressive, which was actually part of my intention, believe it or not. My biggest complaint is this. This isn't going to change either way. Paperwork is still going to be used exactly as the same as it was before. People can, in the end do whatever they want. Now, discussion is fine, but keep this is in mind. If people don't want to change, they won't. Ever. Lets take this out from an isolated event. Not this round, don't even think about it for a second. It's gone. Poof. As stated on by Fowl (pg.1), not everybody is going to be happy with paperwork, and not everybody is going to be upset. That is what it boils down to. You can talk about how it shouldn't be here, and why it should be here, but in the end, somebody will still be upset with it. Why? Because some people will be upset that they have to do it. Others will be upset because there isn't enough of it. If you ask me, this isn't an issue that should even be a thread, as the public opinion on it will not change. Should it change? No-siree-bob. If it changes, people are going to be even more angry over the changes. As it stands, find ways around paperwork if you don't want to sign. Let people write up paperwork if they want. Why? Because it makes them happy. The goal of the server shouldn't be to cater to everybody, but to ensure people are having fun. Don't change something because (x) doesn't like it. That's not good. At the same time, what should you do about enforced paperwork? Step back and look at it from a realistic standpoint (oh no, realism). Does it make sense? Yes or no? If your answer is yes, then do it. If no, then RPly do something about it, because in the end, it's an IC interaction. Is it fun? No. Should it be fun? No. Complain ICly. Tell them what they're doing is wrong, file a report with the IAA, talk to a Head. The reason this shouldn't have been brought up in the forums, is simple. It's not going to get any progress. It's going to be a tug-of-war, over why my paperwork ideals is better than your paperwork ideals. To some people, writing and signing paperwork, can be fun. To others, it's not. Neither side can seemingly see the other's for it's entirety, and because of that, no change will occur. This is an RP server. Part of that is realizing people will RP things differently. You're not going to always have a round where everything is to your liking. Do you wallow on the ground and say 'woe is me, it's so unfair'? No, you don't. You adapt. Respond accordingly ICly. As a final remark, paperwork does not effect you too much at all, gameplay-wise. If it was gone, nobody would notice. Paperwork forms are boring, I understand that. They don't let you RP, I understand that. That said, this is not taking the same amount of time as if you were filling out actual paperwork. At the very most, you might be out for three to five minutes. At the very most. Remember, the server should not be tailored to one person, or even a group of people. Who are you to say that paperwork for (x) is bad, but paperwork for (x) is good? Maybe somebody else thinks differently. Should it be changed because they believe differently than you? No, because we would get nowhere doing that. TL;DR: I believe that paperwork is would be better handled ICly, than OOCly.
  18. What's the point of this thread overall, may I ask? I thought it was to see if your actions during one round were justified or not. Bringing in another round and using it to compare with this round, kinda takes away from that. If you're trying to show people how you RP, that's fine too.
  19. As Tish and Blue said, it would probably be best to just allow players to RP these addictions out. A new mechanic could be sketchy, and may not actually be the best method of handling an "addiction" RP.
  20. I fully support Nuke Ops leaving other operatives behind if they're in a no-win situation. The others are dead, captured, etc. That said, if I recall correctly, during the round the Nuke Ops were all still fully operational, and supposedly had more planned to do, but it got messed up due to you moving the shuttle suddenly. While I understand why you may think it's a cool idea, the way you do it leaves you no room to be anything but the bad guy.
  21. It's hard to criticize Luna as a character, because she's one of those characters who are seemingly defined by their relationship and takes every chance to abandon their department to be with their partner. Or worse, gets assigned to their partners department at an entry position just to be with them the whole time. A person alone does not act the same as when their love interest is present, so any chance at getting to know Luna ordinarily goes out the window. And her presence makes Roy extra volatile, prone to irrational violence and interference in matters that shouldn't ordinarily involve an engineer. Anyway, I understand you do it because you enjoy each others roleplay and it causes 'drama' which drags in other players for roleplay sometimes, it just bugs me. Basically, Luna's not a character. She's an attachment to Roy. Luna is actually a well-developed character with a surprising backstory, and an ongoing growth in the station. It's not fair to dismiss someone's character as " seemingly defined by their relationship" just because they spent a lot of time with their (infamous) partner and not with your character. It's true, depending on not their partner is present in the shift, people will act differently in terms of who they get to spend their time with, but how is this a negative aspect in terms of character personalities? Crescentise is asking what people think of Luna, not what people think of her relationship with Roy. Perhaps you have not been able to notice, but Roy is not around as often as he used to and if you do not get to interact with Luna during the times he is not around (times during which I've found out Luna spent as part of Engineering), your post seems like an attack on Crescentise's character due to your interaction together has not been favored by the game's infinitely possible relationship outcomes, which I think mimic life pretty well. Some people like Roy, some people hate him. Some people like Charlie Dove, Nasir Ha'kim, Jamison Stamos (just to name a few), get to know Luna better, some people don't. Wow, who could have guessed? And what exactly is what "just bugs [you]"? This is passive-aggressiveness at it's finest, which I would assume is because your own character is being mentioned in slightly negative light. I am in no place to speak much on either character, but I will state one thing. Both characters, from the (small) amount I have seen, seem to feed off each other. A give-and-take, if you will. While I am sure they both function perfectly well on their own, their personalities seem to benefit the most when in the company of the other. While this is not a bad thing, and does happen in reality, this is why I don't believe the feedback was an attack on the character, but more so that it was based on the personality seen the most. You stated that the feed back was not supposed to be on what people thought of Luna's relationship, but the character itself. You also mentioned that the character and your own have been spending less time together. While this indeed could help somebody see a character for their own personality, you also have to realize after a while, a character may be more associated with the relationship, than the character itself. Possibly to Konflit, to review Luna's character, would also to review the relationship, and the way it effected the roleplay and character itself. You're assuming this was intended as "this character is bad", which isn't exactly what was said.
  22. I still recall tossing down $450 for a laptop with Intel HD 4000 graphics, and an i3 processor. Thought it was a good deal at the time. Look back with regret all the time.
  23. You'd only need one bomb to take out two of the most important departments with that.
  24. I think a foghorn, or airhorn would be best. No, but seriously. The current sound is fine, I think. Just may need to be lowered in volume. It should be attention-grabbing.
  25. A/N: This guide was created at 3:40 AM. If there are any mistakes I have made, please let me know. ___________________________ Introduction This guide is going to be a very skeleton-like introduction to security. This guide is in no way shape or form intended to make you an advanced, fighting-machine. What it is intended to do, is let you know of the very bare basics of the security team, and what you shouldn't and shouldn't be doing. For me, security was a huge pile of trial and error back when I started and it shouldn't be. Security can be argued to be one of the most important roles on the station, and therefore should be manned by people who at least know what they're doing. A lot of people are upset with how security preforms from time to time, and I hope to at least attempt to fix that, if only a little. ___________________________ Square One Before you even join in as a security officer, you gotta know who your officer is, right? Something of note, is the age of your cadet or officer. Make sure when you join, that you have your skills set to something reasonable. Do not have an officer, who is somebody an expert on every field of science, as well as hand to combat, ranged weaponry, and can also set up the engine with their eyes closed. Also, keep in mind a character's age. The younger somebody is, the less skilled they should be in a certain field. The opposite is also true. The older somebody is, the more skilled they should be. Keep in mind if you want to play a Warden, Detective, or a CSI agent, there is an age minimum to these, which are is twenty-five. This information can be found here, under the Tier 6s jobs. While an officer does not hold a certain age minimum (confirmation needed), the age for them should be believable still. Keep in mind that the officer must complete a year long cadet ship, so a seventeen year old officer is just not something that would happen. For a good point of reference, an officer may want to be twenty one and above, although this is not required and people may have different opinions on this. With your age, and skills out of the way, it's down to personality. A security officer and security cadet are still human (or humanoid at the very least), and you should keep this in mind while playing them. You are obviously free to make your officer or cadet behave in whatever way you see fit to the situation. That said, please do not have an officer who runs around basically being (for the lack of a better word) an idiot. A character who is an officer that ruins crime scenes, releases prisoners, sets prisoners too high, and basically doesn't do their job is not a good officer. A cadet should also be shadowing their officer, and not trying to do their job. Remember, you are being trained by them, you are not another full-fledged officer. Well, you've got your character done, now what? ___________________________ Learning The Ropes You're all ready. Now you can go in and bust some criminals, right? Ha. Ha. No champ. Jumping in as a security officer on your first ever (or first few) rounds as security may not be the best idea. Why not jump in as a security cadet instead? A security cadet is, for a better word, a security trainee. The security cadet will often be paired with an on-duty officer, and will follow them for the shift. A good security officer will show a cadet how security basically runs, and what to do as an officer. If you are a cadet and get paired with a good officer, they might give you more knowledge than I could even give you. Lets' say you aren't given a good officer to pair up with? For whatever reason, they are just bad. The best thing you can do would be to report this to your Head of Security, and request to be paired with another officer. Make note, that sometimes you won't be paired with an officer. Maybe there is no on duty officer who isn't already paired up. Maybe the Head of Security wants you to watch the cameras. Whatever the case may be, you will find times in which you're on your own sometimes. When you find yourself without an officer, what should you do? You can always ask for help from the rest of the security team, but lets' assume you can't. The best thing for you to do, if you are completely new to security, is to let people who are more experienced handle it. This may seem harsh to some people, but keep in mind that if you are less experienced, you may unintentionally mess something up, when you thought you were fixing it. A cadet shouldn't be making arrests in the first place, but if you are an officer, or a cadet who is forced to make arrests, ask for help. If you don't know how to set somebody's cell timer, let somebody know and have them set it for you, don't set it to whatever you want. If you don't know what to do with a prisoner you have, let somebody know. Do not assume something is right, and get proven wrong. Make sure something you're doing is correct before doing it. Even if you get an order, double-checking may be a good thing to get in the habit of doing, as somebody may have slipped up and said something they didn't mean to. In brief, as a new player you should know a few things before trying to jump in with the sharks. Make sure you have a decent grasp of Space Law, which can be found here. and you know how to set the timers. Space Law will give a decent idea on that, as it lists the times for each charge. You will find most security officers and Heads refer to charges found in Space Law, which correlate with a specific time. Going too far out of these times is generally frowned upon, and may get you in trouble, ICly. As a new player, you should also learn the difference between alert Codes. In an attempt to avoid creating too much text, the alert levels can be found in depth, here. Finally, a new player should be able to use the tools of the trade decently. A cadet will only have a flash (confirmation needed), but a security officer will much more, such as a taser and baton. To use both of these primary weapons decently, it is much better to get practice in, during a legitimate situation, than through reading text. That said, a taser should never be used in a crowded area, unless there is some dire emergency which calls for it's use. The reason a taser should not be used, is due to the fact that it can often hit an unintended target in a crowded area. Instead, a flash may more acceptable in a crowded area. As a final note on the weaponry, you can click the button that says "Auto", and shows a revolver on your HUD. This will take you into "Targeting Mode", which allows you to take 'hostages' of sorts. For security, this allows you and a suspect to have RP. Instead of rushing in and shooting without speaking, Targeting Mode allows you to force a suspect to stop, and emote or speak. This can end with both parties happier, as both sides got more RP, than if somebody just ran in and began shooting. This can be negated in certain situations, depending on the situation, but in a general situation that calls for a taser, targeting a target is better than just out right shooting them. ___________________________ The Lone Ranger's Screwed When He's In Danger Now we get to the shorter sections of this, although they have the same importance. As a new player, you may think that you're unstoppable now that you have a baton and some body armor. Wrong. You're not. You're still a pretty easy target for most people, and your 'easy target' self is more of a target when you're by yourself. In the chance that you find yourself in an antag-round, or event where chaos is happening, moving by yourself is very dangerous, and can easily get you killed. This is why cadets and officers are normally paired up together, even in extended rounds. Moving by yourself is extremely dangerous, unless you're confident in either your robustness, or your ability to call for help. Basically, moving in pairs makes the likely hood of you staying alive that much greater, which is always good, because a dead officer isn't any help. ___________________________ You're Not John Rambo One of the biggest complaints about Security, is that players often rambo. To 'rambo' is to basically rush into an situation, outmatched, outgunned, or just outskilled, in an attempt to take down the enemies without any RP, or realistic motivation. Ramboing is highly frowned upon, and sadly security is one of the most likely jobs to do this. There are a few good ways to avoid becoming Johhny Rambo. Ask yourself a few questions. Are there more people than me? Are they better equipped than me? Are they more skilled than me? Do they have a hostage? Do they have guns aimed at me? Do they have some sort of conversation or bargain going on? Have they already killed people who ran in? If you answer yes to any or all of those questions, either leave the area and get help, or stay put and do what they say. Running in to try and take people down by yourself can be considered playing-to-win, and can take people out of their roleplay, which is turn will lead to some very angry people. "What counts as ramboing, Mr. Voltage?" you may be asking. The answer to that also varies from player to player. Generally, using anything that would put you or others (who are not the enemies in question, of course) in direct danger can be considered ramboing. If people have lethal lasers pointed at you, do not run up to them with a baton, and swat at them. If people have grenades, don't try to push them over, or flash them. ___________________________ Conclusion To reiterate, a new player to security would benefit most from joining in as a cadet, and learning the ropes from an on-duty officer, but I understand some players may not enjoy doing this. Therefore, any new players in security should at least know the basics of how to act and behave as a security operative before joining. A new should keep in mind that a security officer is not a role in which you get to just run around and break into departments. In the end, security should be fun, but you shouldn't run into a vented area by yourself, or try to take on a group of people with a baton. You shouldn't set somebody's timer for twenty minutes for petty theft, or try to attack the Head of Security for telling you your job. In the end, if you listen to people who are more experienced and willing to train you, security should be both fun for you, and the other players. Thank you, and have fun! ___________________________ Helpful Links Ages for Warden, Detective. Alert Levels. Space Law.
