  1. No, not really. If anything, it'd get Secret voted more often, although it already is one of the most played modes (which isn't a bad thing). I highly doubt it would get extended voted more often.
  2. Agreeing with this. A ways back, this was used, and I thought it went pretty well. Don't know why it was changed back, so if it has a big issue, point it out please. As stated in Delta's post, you'll get people all grouping up on the largest voted item, or switching over at the last second, because they see a tie. If you couldn't see how many people were voting for what, you'd be voting what you actually wanted, and not voting for something because everybody else was.
  3. This always works.
  4. This is the issue. People can't agree on one thing. To some people, bombing the medbay is perfectly a-okay, and to others, it's the definition of Satan.
  5. See, no, this is the issue. While I've stated that Security shouldn't just flashbang antags, or rush in rambo style, this is also annoying, they also aren't at fault for everything. This is an issue. As you yourself state, people's experiences with Security vary on a case-to-case basis. You can't tell somebody to "tone the shit down" just because you've had a bad experience. Would it be justified for somebody, who had a crappy CMO, to tell medical to "learn to do their jobs"? No, because this doesn't happen to everybody, and they can't speak for the entire group. You are, and have been, picking sour apples to represent a group, and acting as if they were the majority. This is also an issue. Judging from what you've said earlier, it seems that you just want Security to ignore 'small' issues on one-hand, but want them to be played more realistically on the other? You can't have your cake and eat it too. It seems like, you're more or less annoyed that Security is arresting people for "minor crimes". Mind you, I've had people scream and rant at me in LOOC for having contraband. People get angry when they get told they can't draw on the floors. People get angry when they get told to leave a department that isn't theirs, even after being told by department staff to leave. Are these the "small issues" you want security to ignore? If that is the case, then the station would have a good deal of it's crimes ignored, and I believe, more people would be angry with Security for that, than they are for arresting people due to these crimes. That said, what is "more realistically"? They act just as realistic as a lot of other departments. Like I said, you can't have them set to a higher standard, and let everybody else do whatever. They aren't police officers. They aren't robots. You can't act more realistically than security already plays. Why? People respond in different manners. People behave in different ways. Maybe what may not be realistic to you, is what somebody would really do in real life.
  6. Bought Starbound last year, because a friend showed it to me. It lost it's shine really quickly.

  8. Basic Information Byond Account: VoltageHero Character Name(s): Jade Rathel, Amber Rathe AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact: Skype, forums PMs Age: 17 (18 in a week) Timezone: EST When are you on Aurora?: Primarily on from 4:30 PM EST to 2 AM EST on week-days. On weekends, I am primarily on until 4-5 AM EST. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Since 2011. How long have you played on Aurora: I started in September, 2013, and took a break. Roughly a year, possibly more. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I know a good deal of the mechanics for SS13. I know next to nothing in Engineering, and only a little more than that in Science, though. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I do not recall any bans placed on me, but I may be forgetting something. Personality Why do you play SS13?: Space Station 13, is one of the best role-playing mediums, at it's level. Being unbound by the restrictions that a Game Master may set, or the mechanics that a more "advanced" role-playing game might, it allows Space Station 13 to have limitless possibilities, when it comes to role-play. Besides role-play, Space Station 13 also has it's own charm to it, that seemingly draws people back to it, which is a group I am not except from. Both the charm of SS13, and the fact that it's a very good role-playing medium, is why I personally play SS13. Why do you play on Aurora?: Aurora is one of the most popular servers on Space Station 13 right now, and for good reasons. Aurora is currently led by a rather competent staff group. This, combined with the strong focus on SS13 makes myself and others believe that coming to Aurora will allow us to RP freely, and to the extent of our liking. These two reasons are why I have primarily stayed with Aurora for so long. What do moderators do?: Moderators keep an eye over the community and server,to ensure that the playbase isn't have issues. More or less, a moderator should be a player's lackey, in a sense. If a player needs help with something, a moderator should be willing to help them to the best of their ability. Under ideal situations, a moderator would not be needed, but most of the times, the ideal situation can't happen. At that point, a moderator must take control of a situation, and try to figure out what happened, and finally deal out any repercussions, if needed. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Would you want a moderator who didn't interact with anybody, and kept to themselves, seemingly isolated from everybody? No, because this puts up a barrier between the community and the moderators. Being a moderator for Aurora, like any other server, should be more and mean more to a moderator, than just 'patrolling OOC', or watching out for when somebody does bad. A moderator should also be a part of the community, and more importantly interact with the players. While a moderator's primary objective should be to keep the server free from arguments and griefers, they should also be strongly focused on keeping the community an inviting place, if possible. Moderators on Aurora should set an example for other players, by both interacting with the players, and limiting the Why do you want to be a moderator?: The reasoning for wanting to become a moderator on Aurora, is for a few reasons. Primarily I wish to advance the relationships with the community, to that of one of a greater standing. I also want to keep people from being able to come onto Aurora, and grief during rounds. Even though we have good moderators currently, I'd assume they're pretty busy from time to time, and I wish to help them, and try to take the load off them, in a sense. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I have a good deal of group-leadership and management skills, which is necessary to handle even online servers such as Aurora. In an important situation, I find myself rather hard-working and able to meet the challenges that may come from a tense or busy time period. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I would like to consider myself rather laid-back, both in real life and online. I've never really minded being placed at the rear-end of jokes, and have sometimes even welcomed it. This said, I will not lie and state that I am "never going to be angry, ever", because this would be an impossible promise. Myself, a lot with others, are only human, and mistakes may happen. I highly doubt that there would ever be a time where I really got "angry", as I've always had a belief that there isn't much of a reason to get angry at people that are not family. There has been instances in the past where I may have said strong-worded things, but for the most part, I believe anger would not be an issue for me, as well as stress. Anything Else You Want to Add: Some players may remember me older Aurora, and may be less than eager to give me a chance. This is completely understandable, and if this is a reason you want to not support my application, I would be fine with that.
  9. See, now this applies to people who are against Security as well. People want security to do a lot, then will go on rants if they get arrested or something bad happens to them. That's an issue, not just related to departments. I find it funny how people will be die-hard Security supporters, but the moment they get arrested, it's suddenly "security is terrible" and all that. This is not applying to any certain player, so please do not take this out of context, and act as if you are being targeted, to whoever may want to do that. People, a lot of times, as I've said before, want Security to be their ideal police-force, never actually inching off this straight line. As soon as they do, threads like this blow up. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing to give Security feedback. What I don't like is how much of the playerbase wants to be able to do whatever they want, but Security can not. If people want to hold Security to a "professional" standard, every department and character should have to be under these same guidelines. You don't get to pick and choice who falls under a watchful eye, and without a doubt, can't exempt yourself if you're calling out others. As Jakers stated, the entire playerbase will never be one-hundred percent supportive of Security, because that's how it is. People have different ideals, and ideas of good Security RP. Everybody wants their ideal to be everybody else's as well. And to the "it's okay if there is no blood or death" to ignore a crime issue you raised up, no. This is telling people it's cool to go bust open windows, or go run into other people's departments. There are quite a good deal of crimes under regulations, that still need to be taken care of. Just because it isn't "chaos" doesn't make it okay to break regs.
  10. This, more or less. Bad RP is subjective. If you want to call somebody's RP out, you better be ready to look at your own.
  11. This, again. I cannot stress this enough.
  12. Yep, this goes hand-and-hand with the above statements. Antags have their own share of no-RP, where people just go around killing. This isn't acceptable by any means either, and is part of why a good deal of Security members are less out to RP with antags.
  13. Nobody said that. What is silly is that security often times don't really care if a hostage has a gun pointed at them, a sword to their neck, or is right front of their target. Why? Because we have a flashbang. Just toss it in there, and close the door. Boom, antag is down, you win. Is that gank? No. Is it fun? Yes, but only for security. Hell, even the person who was being taken hostage may have their fun ruined by a "lolflashbang". People refuse to actually speak to an antag with a hostage, if there is a "way to end the situation". When a person takes somebody hostage, a good deal of the time, they have sort of RP planned for this. Cutting their RP short is not only a rude thing to do, it's even more-so to say "well, they should have known it would happen". That's basically telling the person, "if you attempt to take a hostage, you're always going to be arrested with little to no RP, so why bother," then that person goes and kills somebody, and suddenly LOOC is full of arguments about if it was justified or not. You have taken a situation out of context, and decided to go to an extreme, and take offense to a subject. People should be stopped, yes. They're entitled to at least a little RP though, before they get flashbanged and cuffed, which next-to-never happens, when flashbangs are used. Am I saying never use flashbangs? No. I am saying, don't just run in, flashbang, cuff, then get upset when people call you out.
  14. Another thing that was noted in another thread, is that it helps people actually give good feedback to departments like Security, if you play a few shifts there. A lot of people who are strongly against Security ( although not saying people in this thread are ), have never played a shift as security, ever. This same reason is why I try to avoid being too harsh on Engineering. I just want to make this point, before this thread gets too far in. It's kind of hard to say much about a deparment, if your only experience is on the outside.
  15. This is an issue I personally don't like either, and something I can actually agree with. Being Security, it's always an iffy situation when it comes to antags. I for one don't like the use of flashbangs because "it's realistic" during hostage RPs. That always ends up the the antag annoyed, and them less willing to try and actually RP as antags. That said, and antag only has a few chances to actually get out of things. Security shouldn't hand the antag a win. It still should be difficult for an antag to win, because that's the point of antag. It's not supposed to be too easy. Antags also get annoyed in LOOC whenever they lose, which is kinda silly in my opinion.
  16. We have these for all the departments, more or less. Science still makes bombs and blow them up when they aren't supposed to. Medical still dumps people out of cyro when they're dying. Why exactly would this change anything?
  17. Stuff like this is kinda the issue I have with these threads. People want the station (not even just security) to be played a certain way. A good deal of "serious RPers" want Aurora to be more "realistic" for them, and want stuff like this. More "less-serious RPers" don't. This is why you can't say "we need to do (x), and eliminate (y)". At the end of the day, it's a frigging game. This isn't real life. You guys are are so harsh on literally every department, when it doesn't fit your own ideal, not even security. And no, just "reporting people" isn't going to do anything, assuming you're talking OOCly. That's just silly. Reporting people ICly is a different story. In the end, my biggest issue is this. People want Security to be there to safeguard their RP. They want to know that they're not going to get griefed, and this is the extent most people would (understandably) want to deal with Security. People forget Security are often actual players too, and not staff-players (if that makes any sense). I assure you too, if Security was less strict, within a few weeks people would make a thread about Security not doing their job. And on the subject of IC dicks...eh? There is literally no reason somebody should just remove their character's behavior, because one or a few people were upset. There are a handful of character across departments that aren't the nicest of people. Too bad, this happens in both real life, and other RPs. As I've stated before, telling everybody to be a "happy, Mary Sue" would get bland, and boring. Nobody forces you to RP with anybody. If you're taking IC things said OOCly, that also is not something that (I'd assume) any player intends.
  18. The human body will lose blood quickly, depending on where it's stabbed, so if you're going to add in a 'bleeding system', it'll have to be tweaked. As well, why will you start bleeding heavily after getting shot? Did they shoot a blood fountain on you or something? A bullet wound isn't going to be a "major" bleeding injury, on most places. Then again, I could be wrong. Again, bleeding out. Why does it just leave you helpless? It should kill you. Losing enough blood will kill you, pretty easily. There is more to having blood loss than just being 'slow' as well, for obvious reasons. And what about getting stabbed in say, the foot? That shouldn't do the same amount of bleeding damage, compared to getting stabbed in a more centralized area.
  19. (( How is Jade still alive. What is this? Magicland? ))
  20. Jet fuel can't melt steel beams.
  21. I recently got this for a #1 in the Humble Bundle pack. After finally figuring out how to play, I realized one thing. 90% of the characters on this list are going to be dead pretty quickly.
  22. Both sides have made mistakes. You're acting as if Nuke Ops was completely fine, which it wasn't.
  23. Haha, what? How on Earth was that terrorism? Rai and the Engineering team not once did anything to actually damage the station. The station was never under any attacks related to the singulo, until the Nuke Ops became bombing the station. They were leaving. Stating that there was a "released" singulo is not an act of terrorism. The fake singulo announcement wasn't the thing that ended up getting people killed. And to this part, only the last two lines actually work here.
  24. As said previously, the reason the fact that the knowledge of bombs weren't used over the comms, was to keep the Nuke Ops in the dark. They weren't supposed to know that the crew was leaving because of them, which they were. If anybody had mentioned that they knew the Nuke Ops had bombs, and that was the reason they were leaving, it was ICly uncertain what would happen. The false Singulo release was used to get the crew out, without Nuke Ops knowing. For the most part, people weren't even panicking that badly in relation to it, from what I saw.
  25. This is also after Rai told everybody to head to the bar or medical, if I recall correctly. People were being crowded into the bar, when the bar got hit with an explosion.
