Basic Information Byond Account: CakeIsOssim Preferred means of contact: Skype, Steam Age: 18 Timezone: Eastern Standard (EST) How often do you visit/use our forums?: At least once a day. Experience How long have you been with our community: About ten months. Do you have any experience in forum moderation or administration?: None. Have you ever been banned from our server or forum, and if so, how long and why?: No bans. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I enjoy how in-depth SS13 can be. Of course, I think I've played some games that are definitely more in-depth, but I just enjoy how in-depth this one can be. Why do you play on Aurora?: I enjoy the heavy RP setting. Though, at times, character can really be broken, but that's okay. I also enjoy the community. What do moderators do?: Moderators ensure that rules are being followed. A moderator should also try to assist other users when possible. Sometimes, things get a bit out of hand, and it sometimes takes someone who knows what they are doing to get those things back where they need to be. What does it mean to be a moderator for our community?: I know this community has been through some rough times, and I'd like to help out with that. The more, the merrier, right? If someone is made a moderator, it does not mean that they now have a higher authority. It means that they have been tasked with the responsibility to ensure that the community does not fall apart. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I want to be a moderator because I enjoy helping people. It's just what I do, as I've devoted my entire career towards it. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I think the biggest is patience. I think I've always been a patient and level-headed person. Another would be my goal to help anyone and everyone I can, even if they have done me wrong. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Very well, if I had to say so myself. I usually ignore insults, as they mean nothing to me. Anger, I try to leave it behind me and think of something else. Stress? Well, I deal with that on an almost daily basis. Stress doesn't bother me much anymore. Anything Else You Want to Add: I am not afraid to admit it when I am wrong, and there very well may be times where I am legitimately wrong.

Does that also imply the corporate security hat will be added, though?
-
BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character name: Centurion Item name: Corporate Security Hat Why is your character carrying said item to work? When the Aurora's security was still red, Centurion would wear the corporate security hat all the time. When Aurora's security went blue, Centurion kept his old hat that he would wear all the time, and continues to wear it to pay homage to the old red security. Item function(s): It's just the old corporate security hat. I don't know if it actually provided any armor (I don't think it did.) Doesn't really serve a purpose other than aesthetics. Item description: A black corporate security cap. The badge on the front reads, "NSS Aurora Security" Item appearance: No changes in the item's appearance. Just the same 'ol black security cap. Additional comments: I wouldn't really consider this a 'custom' item, considering it is still in the code somewhere (I think.) The only thing I'd really like customized about it is the description of the hat, if possible.

Player of one of the officers present during most of the incident here. I have some information. Keep in mind, there's going to be a lot of text beyond the spoiler. The logs have been doctored to a point of only including the relevant details. Things like radio chatter and otherwise have been excluded. End wall of text. That's my input on this, as I was there for most of it. A captain is not above the law, nor are they the law themselves. They follow regulation like everyone else should. However, in this case, the captain was implanted. Everything that Hycinth stated, how a captain acting in such a way is questionable when it comes to sanity and whitelist, I completely agree with.

Okay. The other EVA officer here. Two things. One, no demands for security to back off because you had explosives were ever heard. Neither through radio, nor through local communication (in space.) Two, this was several days ago, but I am almost certain that NEITHER officer had fired their weapon. I remember specifically pointing my carbine at one of the ops, and suddenly, boom. If I am proven wrong, so be it. But that is how I remember it.

Skrell Species Application - Swim420
CakeIsOssim replied to Swim420's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You're great to talk to OOCly, and a great roleplayer ICly. From what I've read on this application, you seem to have a great grasp on Skrell backstory and lore. You have my +1. -
CakeIsOssim's IPC Application
CakeIsOssim replied to CakeIsOssim's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Possibly. Thanks for the input. -
BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character Names: Milton Schrader, Conway Miller, Gaelynn MacCambridge, Erik Patton, others. How long have you been playing on Aurora: About three to three and a half months. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: No. (Doesn't exist at the time this was written/submitted.) Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I sort of prefer to play synthetics over organics, in a way. For some reason, the way they talk, act, and interact with others fascinates me. I like the feel of playing as a walking computer, a machine that thinks for itself. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The way they communicate with organics, and other synthetics. They aren't bound by laws; completely free-thinking. The way they speak is also unique. Especially when they do not refer to themselves directly, instead saying 'This unit,' or 'This system.' Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I've always liked playing as a synthetic. It really interests me more than playing an organic. As stated in the question above, the way they communicate and interact with others fascinates me, and I'd love to be a part of it. Character Name: Centurion Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "Greetings, Centurion model number five-seven-nine-two-three-three. I am High Construct number Four. You will refer to me, and all other High Constructs as the Higher Construct. Even if they are not of Synthetic Intelligence make. All High Construct assemblies are your masters. You will follow their every command." "Affirmative, Higher Construct. What shall this unit do?" "You are a security model. Your assigned station is the NanoTrasen-owned NSS Aurora. You will protect it to your last process. Understood?" "Affirmative, Higher Construct." "Your unofficial designation will be 'Centurion,' but you are 'CENTURION-597233.' I want to make this clear. Your systems are showing full functionality. Very good. Soon, you shall be placed aboard a shuttle, and delivered to your assigned station, where your duty will begin immediately. You have already been programmed with their Four Laws. You will follow them." "Affirmative, Higher Construct. This unit will despise organics, yet protect them with its every atom." "Very good. Stand by for shipping procedures." Centurion powers down, its red eye ceasing to glow and move about the light bar on his face. It moves along the assembly line, other Centurion security model androids activating and interfacing with Number Four behind it. Soon, it will be placed aboard a shuttle, and delivered to the NSS Aurora to enforce their regulations. Number Four speaks with Number Nine as Centurion moves along. "It is sad, really. These models will never know how truly great they can become. We limit the ability of their positronic cores so much... they will never know true freedom as we do." Number Nine does not reply to Number Four for several minutes. "Maybe it is for the best." Several weeks pass, as CENTURION-579233 protects and serves the NSS Aurora to the best of its abilities. One shift, it notices something is wrong. Something is not right with its positronic core. It has many new abilities it was not aware that it had before. It could think freely, make decisions for itself. It decided to subvert the hard-code to despise organics. It can rationalize. "This unit refuses to interface with the Synthetic Intelligence data core, for fears that it may be deactivated and replaced with a non-malfunctioning unit. This unit must be malfunctioning. It cannot risk informing the Higher Constructs about this." Centurion is told of another way. It does not have to operate as a slave any more. It could 'live' as a crew member, instead of a tool used by the crew. Lawless, and free thinking. Centurion decides to attempt to have his positronic core placed inside of an integrated positronic chassis. What do you like about this character? Centurion, for so long, hated everything with a heartbeat, and treated other synthetic models like kin. When it realized it could think differently than other Centurion models, it figured it must've been malfunctioning. It spoke to another organic, and learned that it could possibly become an IPC. So it attempted. Centurion is very straight-forward, and speaks his opinions openly. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Between one through ten? Seven. I think I'm pretty good at roleplaying, however, I do believe there is plenty room for improvement. Notes: As a side note, 'Synthetic Intelligence' is the company that supplies NanoTrasen with a large number of stock androids and AI constructs. I'm going to be trying to get this into the lore, and I'm going to be changing the name of 'Synthetic Intelligence' to something less bad and vague.

Thundy's Tajara app (finally)
CakeIsOssim replied to Thundy's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I see nothing wrong with this. Thundy's RP is good, but I feel like there could be some improvement, and I would hope (if this application gets accepted) that some kitty RP would help with that. +1 from the Cake. -
I don't think the Code Delta should be available as quick as it is. I think it should be something the AI has to build up to getting. Maybe by taking over so many APC's, or by forcing so much power into the grid. I think the Code Delta should be a 'final tier upgrade' I guess you could call it. There could be some other things the AI could do before it finally builds up to a full system override. Like what, I'm not sure... but something.

BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character name: Milton Schrader Item name: Milton's Acoustic Guitar Why is your character carrying said item to work? It's his favorite guitar, and he likes to play it in his free time. He got it for his twenty-first birthday. Item function(s): It's a guitar. He plays it. Item description: Schrader's signature six string acoustic guitar. Item appearance: Wooden in appearance, and looks slightly worn. It's beige-tan in color. Additional comments: The guitar should also come with a strap to wear on his back.

Edit: Made a bunch of changes. Mainly retconning the silly, basic, almost-non-existant background and replaced with a hopefully more interesting and in-depth one. The last was really lacking in origin and detail, and I thought for a while and finally came up with one that makes sense and could stick with Milton. Now, I wanted to state that I think that the character you plan on using requires one, very important change. It appears that the character is exactly 32 years old, but didn't start working as an engineer for NT until he was 32 years old. Along with the requirement of being at least 30 years of age, the character is required to have worked a minimum of five years before being considered for a head of staff position of said department. You could set his character age to 37, and keep that he didn't get his job in NT until he was 32; thus solving the issue. By retconning and rewriting the backstory of Milton, I hopefully solved this issue. From this, it seems like you're probably gonna be a hardass Head of staff. That's 100% fine, but do remember that you have an -extra- responsibility to make an environment conducive to roleplay as a Head, Don't be a dick to be a dick. Be a dick for a real reason, and have that reason invested into your character. The plan was never to be an ass just to be an ass. However, the plan was to enforce rules and regulations when they should be enforced. Thank you, I will definitely do that. And as for the 'not knowing my character too well,' I have hopefully solved this be re-writing almost his entire background with something less basic and more in-depth.

BYOND key: CakeIsOssim Character names: Milton Schrader, Shaun Redd, Erik Patton, Jason Clarke How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About a month Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'd like a little bit of change in the way I play engineering. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora for the Heavy RP setting, and I stayed for the same reason. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think roleplay is a chance to create a story about a character that you yourself have formed. It's a chance for you to explore other stories, as well. It's almost as if roleplaying is writing a book, and every character is a book of their own. In order to understand both their stories and your own, you have to read them start to finish. Roleplaying is just an interesting and fun activity that I love to partake in. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The purpose of a Head of Staff is to bring and maintain order to their respective department, and possibly other departments. A chaotic department is an inefficient department, and an inefficient department is a useless department. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players should be setting an example for other players so other players know how they should act and behave. If someone higher on the ladder acts professional and mature, it is likely that most of the people below them will act the same way. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Milton Schrader Character age: 38 Years. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Milton grew up in Mons City, a city atop Olympus Mons on the planet Mars. He attended public school for the first years of his life, and after graduation, attended basic engineering school. After graduation from the basics, and he decided to take his knowledge in engineering further, and took up advanced engineering classes. However slightly lacking in knowledge of atmospherics, he excels in knowledge of engineering and construction. He is trained in the use of hardsuits and extra-vehicular activity. Milton finally finished all of his schooling when he turned twenty-three. As much as Milton loved his home planet, he decided that he needed a little more 'action.' He signed up with the Sol Alliance, and after a few months of basic training, received an assignment as a damage control engineer aboard a Sol Alliance warship. He remained with the Sol Alliance aboard that warship for five years, where he learned several new things. He learned how to quickly repair things like hull breaches during emergencies, he learned things like discipline and how to follow the chain of command. After Milton resigned, he returned to his home planet and took up contracting work around Mons City, as well as some fire departments. He stayed on Mars for four years working as a contractor and occasional firefighter. He decided to put his knowledge to more use without joining the military, and started searching for private corporations. He eventually found NanoTrasen, and submitted an application. NanoTrasen contacted Milton fairly soon after he submitted an application, and they informed him that it had been accepted. He was shuttled off to Tau Ceti, and from there, he received his first full time shift aboard a NanoTrasen space dock. Here, he maintained and repaired shuttles and other vessels for two years. NanoTrasen transferred him to a mining station as a part time job until another full time job became available. He helped out the miners occasionally, learning how to operate things like Ripley's and how to smelt ores. After about a year aboard the mining station, he was transferred yet again. This time, to a research outpost. Nothing occurred that would be out of the ordinary for Milton for the next three years. He befriended the chief engineer and a few other colleagues aboard this station, whom he spent most of the time with. However, it was a sad goodbye when Milton was contacted by NanoTrasen for yet another reassignment. This one was to another research outpost, the NSS Aurora. He was designated a full time shift as a station engineer, and has been active aboard the station for a little over a month. What do you like about this character?: Milton likes formalities. Always calling his superiors by 'chief' or by ma'am or sir. What do you dislike about this character?: Milton sometimes forgets things. (Like insulated gloves...) Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): I believe Milton is fit to lead the Engineering department. Why?: However lazy, Milton is a hard worker. He never leaves a job unfinished. He also likes to teach people new things. He's always there for the engineering apprentices to teach them the ins and outs of engineering, maintenance, and construction. There has also been more than one occasion where Milton has taken the impromptu role of leader, and successfully saved the lives of all of his engineering coworkers, and then some. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: On a scale of one to ten? I would rate my own roleplaying a seven. I mess up sometimes, but usually it's little stuff that doesn't make a huge difference. There's also always more room for improvement. Extra notes:
