Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: CakeIsOssim Character Name(s): Centurion, Halligan, Adeno, Conway Miller, Gordon Dutch, Gaelynn MacCambridge, Ka'Akaix'Velriz K'lax, Ka'AkaixViax'Dila K'lax, Spc Daschico. AI Name(s): ESRA. Preferred means of contact: Discord, Steam, forum PM. Age: 19 Timezone: EDT (GMT-4) When are you on Aurora?: Pretty much whenever I'm awake and not busy with something else or playing another game. That could be any time, really. Even if I'm not actually playing, I'll probably be in the lobby. Experience How long have you played SS13?: As long as I've been with Aurora. How long have you played on Aurora: Just about 3 months shy of two years, I think. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: A good deal, I believe. I'm most knowledgeable with BS12, but there are undoubtedly a bunch of other things that I don't know. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Not for a server, but for their forums, if that counts. (Disclaimer: it was Aurora's.) Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No actual disciplinary bans. Personality Why do you play SS13?: It's fun. Really fun. It's engaging, and seems to be the only game that's ever actually held my attention for this long. I don't even really know the exact reason, I just really like it. There's no other game that really compares. Why do you play on Aurora?: The environment, the community, the roleplay. The universe is also quite unique, and I really love being a part of it. The same applies to the community. If I'm not playing, I'm certainly chatting with others. What do moderators do?: Alongside of ensuring that community members remain in the boundaries set by the rules or otherwise, moderators have also volunteered themselves to be guides for the community. I don't see a moderator as someone who just bans people and tells them "no, you can't do that." I see them as exactly how I explained them: guides. They've taken it upon themselves to ensure people know what they're doing and/or where they're going. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means being friendly, helpful, and patient. I personally believe I possess all three of these qualities, and it brings me great satisfaction knowing that I'm helping someone in some way or another. It also means being responsible, something I should have absolutely no issue with. Why do you want to be a moderator?: As stated before, it's pretty much part of my life helping people. I'm pretty active on the server, and would try to always be present when someone requires me. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Patience and attitude. I don't lose my cool often, and consider myself very patient when dealing with things. I believe I also possess a very friendly, and sometimes, informative attitude. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Stress is no biggie, I cope with it well and don't let it get to me. Insults also mean nothing to me, and even if I do get angry about something, I try not to allow it to influence my decision making and attitude towards others. Anything Else You Want to Add:

ESRA's custom AI core (and status displays)
CakeIsOssim replied to CakeIsOssim's topic in Denied Apps
Alright, too reference-y. By the time the 8th rolls around, I likely won't have a replacement finished, so you can go ahead and can this one. Was worth a shot, though, I think. I'll definitely be working on a new, unique sprite. And, it will only have one sprite. -
A valid point. In all reality, I could excuse it by saying that it's only secured by one very small pin, and a tug hard enough to pull over a 300 pound robot would likely just rip it off, unlike someone's long hair or loose clothing. The only other workarounds I have, besides that, is asking for permission to wear it from the head of security every round, or just restricting it to being worn off-duty.

Sounds like you just took the definition of positronic brain from Paradise, I think. I think there are some things that should at least try to remain vague. I love quoting me some TV tropes, so I'm going to go with "Rule of Cool." The suspension of disbelief as long as something is at least remotely believable and cool as fuck. Such as, trying to explain why Gipsy Danger doesn't collapse under its own weight unless it was made of Gallium which is toxic to humans... doesn't that sound silly? Who cares if Gipsy would collapse on itself? It's a giant robot that fights giant monsters. It's cool! I really think that explaining a positronic brain as just, a really advanced computer that just works... maybe throwing in "neural net" and "positron pathways" makes it sound cooler and believable. I just don't think it needs a deeper explanation.

BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character name: Centurion Item name: Paludamentum How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? The paludamentum was worn by ancient Roman military commanders, and considering Centurion's name and attitude, it would fit his character very well. It would accentuate his respectability, and mark him as one who cares for formality. Why is your character carrying said item to work? It's a garment that suits him, and as stated above, accentuates his respectability and formality, and he knows this. Item function(s): Just a cloak to wear as clothing. It could either fit into the armor slot, or attach to jumpsuits like a webbing vest without the storage space. Item description: A cloak-like piece of silky, red fabric. Fashioned at one point where the shoulder would be with a golden pin. Item appearance: A red piece of fabric with black details and a golden pin holding it together at the shoulder. It's basically like a cloak but Roman, mane. Additional comments: Screenshots and dropbox link with the sprites because I can't code below. Mob sprite (it's kinda teeny, sry :c): Item sprite: Dropbox:

BYOND Key: CakeIsOssim Character name: ESRA Item name: They're custom sprites for the AI core and the status displays. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? The core and status displays will reflect the same image, with the image being a face exhibiting some basic emotion such as happiness or anger. As long as I'm on the ball, keeping up with station happenings, the status displays and the core will reflect how ESRA is "feeling," or better yet reacting to the situation, and provides insight to the crew on how he (or it) functions when it comes to certain stimuli. It works great as nonverbal communication, and I think it'd be an interesting touch to malfunction rounds. Why is your character carrying said item to work? That's funny. To answer this one as best I can, ESRA was both an experiment in organic-AI relations and in cybernetic security. Allowing members of its crew to see its "face" helps them to get along with it, and allows them to feel a more personal connection to it. Item function(s): No real function. It's a custom addition to the AI core displays and status displays. Item description: There wouldn't really be one, I guess. They're images on a computer screen. Item appearance: I took a lot of inspiration from the Superintendent's face, so they look strikingly similar. Well, maybe more than similar. Additional comments: Screenshots and dropbox link for the sprites below. I can't code, so these will have to be coded in. AI core: Status display: Dropbox:

[ACCEPTED] Cake's Lore Developer Application
CakeIsOssim replied to CakeIsOssim's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Rrreaaally, I don't think I'll change as much as I'll add. I'm using the word 'overhaul' to explain an expansion of information on the corporations; stations/facilities, past projects, and general history. The dynamics between companies would likely be both cooperations and, of course, rivalry. The rival corporations are already relevant. The deal here is making them less vague so they serve more of a purpose in the lore. I think this can be easily accomplished without the assistance of a coder. New companies is a project for a much later date. The current ones come first, and if we can get around to possibly adding a new one, I wager it would be some kind of freighting company, or something idk. -
I agree with most of the points in the OP, but with one little thing about hacking IPCs. It should only be possible when they attempt to charge from a hacked APC. I can't really speak for IPCs but they don't really possess the hardware to be networked to anything besides a direct connection to whatever power source they touch (in this case, an APC).

Before I start, I'd like to state that I've noticed it becoming a trend lately that people are trying to instate permanent solutions to temporary problems, most of which are not even actually problems. If someone calls the shuttle and the shuttle isn't even close to warranted, just ahelp them. This whole deal of preemptive rule enforcing is getting really tiresome to see. No. We don't need to add "allowances" for the emergency shuttle. There are situations where the crew just needs to leave and cannot wait the ten minutes for an ERT to arrive and say, "Yeah, shit's fucked. Call the shuttle." If they try to call the shuttle and it gets recalled, so what? Start the manhunt. As soon as you find the person responsible, then you can end your round. And, I don't know about the rest of you, but usually and hour or an hour and a half of chaos is just enough for me to notice that shit is either stagnant or winding down, and good rounds will usually start low, reach their high point at about an hour and a half, and wrap up nicely at the two hour mark or so with an emergency shuttle or even a crew transfer. This is a non issue.

If we're really going to keep this meme train rolling, I suppose I can discuss the installation of my psychic dominators tomorrow. I'll edit this post when I wake up. -

No, I'm sorry, I can't do this. I went into this expecting something completely different, and now that I have an idea of what it would be like in the future, I don't think I'm particularly fond of it, and I doubt I'm the kind of person that you would like to see on the lore team. This application reflects my own failure to look into this any further than just studying lore, and perhaps I even failed to do that much. It's not that I don't understand what's going on here: I understand it completely, and that's where the issue lies. It's not what I'm looking for. I've lost my interest in becoming a part of the lore team because I just don't think I would particularly fit in very well if this is how day to day things are handled. I prefer something a bit more uniform. I can't be much more up front about it than that. I rescind the application. -

I was never one for rules. I'll be honest, I have no definitive answer. I can, however, bring forth three separate factions that I believe have the most beef with NanoTrasen. The Providence Foundation - Somewhat obscure, but not enough to be completely stepped all over by NanoTrasen without some serious backlash. One challenges results brought about by NT research, and the other responds with lawsuits. The Tajara - For allowing most of their home planet's resources to fall under the control of NT. The Syndicate - Really, the obvious answer. But if I was going to be terribly honest with you, I wouldn't say it's the right one. -

You blame the stupid fucking catbeasts, of course Idris Inc., but that's a little out of place considering how much they claim to keep funds secure. I'd like to buy a vowel. -

Quite a lot. This question alone decides your application. Not joking. -
Ckey/BYOND Username: CakeIsOssim Position Being Applied For: Rival Corporation Lore Developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: I've never actually submitted any lore for Aurora. However, I do consider myself an avid writer. I enjoy writing, and it's something that usually fills my spare time. Examples of Past Work: I don't really have any public examples of any of my writing. Preferred Mode of Communication: Skype, Discord, Forum PM Additional Comments: I personally believe that he rival corporations of NT should be included more in our server than just passive references here and there. Give people something they can really build upon. Do they serve their purpose now? Perhaps, but I think they can and should be more than that. What good is potential wasted? The rival corporations interest me, and I believe that I could improve them greatly.

Should I add Optimal Chemistry Recipes to the Chemistry Wiki Page?
CakeIsOssim replied to Nanako's topic in General
Only bound AI should have knowledge of absolutely everything available to the station. An IPC having so would be powergaming and metagaming. I also agree with Skull. Not everything has to be spoonfed, even if it makes things more efficient. If they really want to learn and improve, have them learn from other people in game. Either in character or out of character. Doesn't really matter. -
I actually convinced myself that tactical armor is not overpowered. It is a broad armor type, providing more-than-basic protection against most types of damage. Basically, it's for when you don't know what you're going to be fighting, or you're fighting a combination threat. The specialized armors? They're actually specialized. Ablative, 80 laser protection. Bulletproof, 80 bullet. Riot, 80 melee. Tactical armor? 60 for all three of those. The normally issued officer's vest has 50 melee, 15 bullet, and 50 laser. Two of those are only 10 units less than the tactical armor. Remember what I said about generalized armor? If we're going to talk about how beanbags are overpowered for the amount of agony they deal, we cannot forget that slugs do the same amount but in real damage. A single slug is enough to kill someone. One and done. Perhaps not instantly, but if they get hit and it sticks? They're fugged. I'm actually okay with that, though. Shotguns should be powerful. Unless you're using hotkeys, they're a weapon you actually have to manage. Once you run out, you have to load one shell at a time. That's not happening in the middle of combat. Meanwhile, with an AR or pistol, you can just pop a new mag in and you're ready to cap some assistants. The 5.56's, though, shouldn't be as strong. Especially if they're armor piercing.

I feel like you're right here. Routine fullbody searches of all departing employees are unlikely to be a thing. searching would only happen in situations where someone feels it warranted, like there's suspects still not caught This is already a thing, though. As in, today. There's an Amazon dispensary near where I live. They have an internal security force that searches outgoing employees every shift. Now, just take that, and upscale it to an extremely expensive research station where experiments and other kinds of questionable totally legal stuff takes place.

Obligatory usage of Godwin's law. Pls, make the queens matter more to the Vaurca other than babymakers. If they're ant people, then why do they have a cabinet that outranks the queen? That makes no sense.
-
at peak times, sure. During lower population rounds, it starts bringing up odd questions. Why do we need such a large security force, if everyone just does their jobs and acts properly. Why do we need specialist EMTs, surgeons, and chemists, when one doctor with shipped-in medkits and a scanner bed can fill everyone's medical needs quite well. Why do we need an engineering team, when one man can setup the engine and go to sleep for the rest of the shift. a round falls into sameness and boredom without some source of conflict to generate problems for people to solve, and work for them to do There are canon threats and dangers to the station which require both security and engineering to deal with, and medical if either of them are injured in the process. That's just the surface of why those departments exist. They don't exist solely to deal with whatever antag there might be aboard. Internal security secures station assets (above all else) and ensures people aren't fucking around. Engineering maintains the station integrity during things like meteor showers, which happen often considering the location of the station. Medical exists because workplace accidents are likely when you take into account the machinery that departments like engineering and research use. Might I also add, if you're preparing for shit to go down, you should be doing that all that time instead of just on secret. I would wager that not doing that is metagaming. I think someone already covered this, though, so I'll move on. If you're preparing for antagonists OOC, and you're ready to have some fun with the people who were selected to make shit go down, and nothing goes down? Well, things aren't always going to go your way. Playing a role is neither 100% chairp and 100% action-packed movie scenes. You have to find the balance. All in all, I'm opposed.

I can do that. Mostly since I would like to see this done, considering how many hardsuits there are.

Allow maintenance drones to go to telecomms and the outposts
CakeIsOssim replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Archive
Since both of these areas are technically part of the station, yes please. The issue with this is, however, I don't know how much longer this current map is going to last and the whole 'maintenance drones exploding when leaving the station thing' might change with the port of the new map. Who knows. shrug -
