  1. Checked again now that the image is fixed. Wow, that's a hard call to make. Well, I really like the new IDs, like I said before. I'm really torn about the new PDAs. A part of what I like about the PDAs we currently have is that they're nice and sleek. They seem like something that you'd expect to see a bunch of corporate space men using, although I admit that I can't imagine how you would wear one realistically. The new ones look like PDAs. And in that regard, they're really well-done. The sprite is nice and makes a lot of sense. But... they look like PDAs, not future-tech PDAs. I work with machines a lot, and I used to have a big ol' box full of older PDAs in this style. We threw them out because they're basically worthless at this point -- nobody uses them. So, I think the spriting itself is good, but it's not my preferred aesthetic for a PDA.
  2. To be perfectly honest, we don't interact enough when you're "just" Winston for me to get a read on him. Seems like pretty normal security dude, which based on what I know of him is pretty much the case. You REALLY shine when you're playing Winston-as-Stein though, and knowing the motivation for his severe aggravation towards the station (incompetent and often abusive co-workers) just makes it all the more interesting. I don't have suggestions, really. I like how he's played, and it's probably one of the most human and reasonable traitor motivations I've ever seen on Aurora.
  3. I like the current PDAs, and for some reason can't see the pictures for them here, so I can't comment on the new PDAs. The new IDs look pretty good.
  4. Yeah, I suppose so. In that case only the HoS office could really benefit from having one. With regards to the bridge guest pass computer, I basically never see it used. I've used it exactly once myself, though that doesn't indicate much since I'm not a whitelisted player. It was while returning the Captain's Spare ID, so I could get out of the bridge again when I was done.
  5. The only true shitcurity I encounter are one-off players. I once came onto a late night shift with traitors where the lone security officer had arrested the traitor, taken his e-sword, and tortured him with it until his hand exploded. The only good thing she did that entire time was give him CPR so he wouldn't die on the spot.
  6. A lot of the time I've been watching the game, or playing it, one of security's biggest issues with handling issues is simply getting into places. Departments on Aurora also have a somewhat consistent tendency to turtle up and factionalize against security and simply not cooperate with them if they feel like they can do so with impunity, even if there's a significant emergency at hand like nukeops blowing holes in the station and people on the station. This seems especially prevalent in cargo based on my limited and recent observations. I feel like this problem could be partially solved with the addition of a Guest Pass Computer (as found in the bridge) in either the Warden or the HoS's office. Maybe regulations would allow it to be used in conjunction with a warrant in green alert, and without paperwork during blue alert or higher. I would personally prefer the Warden's office, and also giving the Warden access to USE the guest pass computer, but I could also understand why people would vastly prefer usage of that particular mechanic to be restricted to whitelisted roles only as well. Either way, it seems to me like logically, the guest pass system is practically made for the Security role, and sees almost no usage that I know of in general.
  7. While it's been a while since I played too actively due to a variety of factors, I'd like to remark on this real quick. As somebody who plays, or played a pretty lenient Security officer, I can say that the entirety of security has to be lenient for this to fly. If somebody gets upset you let somebody off the hook, you can get in trouble pretty fast. Furthermore, people don't appreciate it very much. I know Travis/Furry does, but my leniency usually just bites me in the ass. The person acting out goes back to acting out, or they actually come back and hurt me in some way. Yep, and yep. I haven't usually had problems with point three, but I'm generally liked by Medbay, I think? Not sure. Departments do tend to act like factions though, even in rounds where that's not appropriate.
  8. The NSS Aurora is the MASH 4077th. When you're there and nothing of note is happening you can't imagine that this place is anything but a miserable shitpile full of malcontents and crazy people. And then things come together, people get their work done, and it's actually pretty amazing.
  9. +1 Chiming in in favor of this for pretty much the same reasons as the rest.

    The Jawdat Family

Nepotism, embezzlement, and crime exist in plenty of large corporations. The Jawdats haven't done anything near as blatant as the shit that goes on in real life. While I don't personally like the way the Jawdat family acts in the game, there's more ridiculously illegal nonsense coming out of the Trasen family in a single round than there is in the Jawdat family across every round I've encountered them in. Blatant corruption, nepotism, and illegal activities go all the way to the top if the holiday special events are anything to go by. And you know, I don't think that's a bad thing, really. I liked the CEO's crazy party daughter.
  11. +1 for player. I know you'll make a good CMO. Sounds like you need to make some character adjustments for it to work out completely, but I think you're good for it.
  12. +1 Character doesn't seem fully fleshed out, but I've seen you around on Revvy and James and wouldn't have guessed until just now that you're the same guy, so I'm confident we'll get a pretty cool, distinct character out of this.
  13. +1 While I haven't interacted with Android directly, I've watched you from ghost quite a lot. Particularly your interactions with Wesley Jesse, and recently when you wandered into robotics and started skittering around with equipment. Your RP is good and I think your IPC will go good places.
  14. +1 While I haven't personally played with you too much because I've been busy these last five days or so, I have been watching rounds as a ghost while I have the opportunity. You seem pretty dependable and generally strike me as a good warden. I'm pretty indifferent about the Tajaran thing.
  15. I'd be interested to know what people think about the only character I've played consistently, which of course is Eliot Clef. Regarding my own feedback - Isilithai Uaekis: I always have extremely mixed feelings on him both in-character and out-of-character. I actually really enjoy being around the character, but my character really really doesn't. The main thing that bothers me about him is that he escalates situations really rapidly and violently as soon as he gets the chance to. Sometimes this is amazing and wonderful culminating in amazing hostage rescues using clever planning, other times it's a real slaughterhouse on one side or the other. All-in-all, while I'm critical of him, I'd be sad not to see him around anymore.
  16. Seconding this. Additionally, as somebody who frequently plays Warden, I really like the greatcoat look, so I'd be sad to see it go.
  17. +1 I've seen you in action enough to believe that you are, OOCly, a cool dude and will make a pretty good RD. But, I would be lying to say that I'm not concerned with your choice of character for the position. It's possible you got approval for it in the relevant rounds, but there was a pretty long string of rounds I was in with Axel where you self-experimented yourself into a Hulk pretty much every single time I saw you. I will say in fairness to you that I don't recall you being one of the serious jerks with Hulk, but if you get to do the RD thing I would ask you to cut back on this sort of thing and discourage other people from self-experimentation too.
  18. +1 I've interacted with the TruLem series and Anna Lee a fair bit. Usually not too extensively, but enough to feel like TrueLemIPC could only bring more entertainment to the table all-around.
  19. Man, I'm dying to know what happened that round. I know there was some kind of bombing, but I didn't get to see what happened before the server was restarted.
  20. I'd been contemplating whether or not to make a thread discussing Security recently. Maybe such a thing is exactly what is warranted. But, I do wish to remark on this. I play Security regularly -- almost exclusively -- and the fact of the matter is that if most of the Security force is super aggressive, it's really hard for a dissenter to get any sort of realistic traction on correcting the issue. I've stepped in and ordered Officers to desist in problematic behavior, and I generally go out of my way to give them the opportunity not to force me to actually arrest them. But actually carrying out an arrest on another officer is often pretty tricky. If I were to arrest, for instance, Uaekis for being overly violent I just don't see it ending particularly well for me. I'd expect to end up demoted for my trouble, more-or-less ending my round. When I've ended up being alone in manning security and had solo officers who have stepped out of line, I do in fact arrest and defacto demote them if I need to. Had somebody detain a traitor and torture him with his own e-sword recently, in fact. Dealt with that just fine. With the regular security crew, I don't feel as if internal correction is very possible except in really exceedingly glaring cases of misconduct. The less security is around the more room there is for truly bad security to be addressed, though. I'm generally inclined to go light on people overall as well, but I have to admit that the more often I do that, the more often it bites me in the ass.
  21. +1. Aqy is good candy pretty much all the time. I really like Emmy, and I'm confident this character will be enjoyable as well.
  22. The only reputation you have that I know of is joining as a xenobiologist and promptly getting yourself attacked by slimes. So, here's the thing: If some random dude joins up and starts digging into the game, people don't mind it too much. Newbies happen and often don't know how to make a fleshed out character. Travis Davis however is a constant. You play him in fields he's not qualified to be in, which In Character is a no-no. People who are in their jobs are there because they're qualified to be there. So, save Travis Davis in one of your slots and go build another character to be whatever else you want to try!

    Brig Design

Alright, so I've been discussing this with people in OOC Chat on and off, as well as in ghost chat when I'm simply not available to do rounds too actively but can sit and talk. Based on my admittedly limited observations, the permabrig area of the station is pretty insanely easy to render in-viable for habitation or usage. I've had prisoners use pens and assorted objects lying around to break the windows and vent that area of the station, forcing security to come in and handle them at significant risk. It's certainly possible to simply let the prisoners who do such a thing pass out/die and take it from there. But I guess the point I'm getting at is that the permabrig is quite possibly the least safe place to imprison people who did something bad enough to get permabrigged in the first place. I understand that the design is intended to allow the possibility for escape, but it seems to me like it's a little too easy. A few suggestions come to mind: #1: Make the windows plasma-reinforced glass so that it can't be broken without some serious force behind it. Remove any objects from the brig that could be used to break them. Alternatively, give them shutters or simply make them reinforced walls instead. #2: Place a wall flasher that can be triggered from outside the permabrig in the bedroom, bathroom/shower, and at least one in the recreation area. It also might be a good idea to set the permabrig up with SOMETHING that prisoners can do so it isn't effectively the end of their round when they're put in there. There's some hydro trays and stuff but unless there's somebody else in there, you're basically looking at not getting interacted with for pretty long stretches of time.
  24. +1 I'm newish around here (I used to play frequently but took an extended break) and you're one of the first people who engaged me across rounds. Pretty good role player, regular and good doctor.
