1. I love all of Moon's characters. All are unique while still being relatable. This character background looks quite good as well. +4, because we need more Zhan -3 because PRA
2. I agree with the raiding reason you provided. I feel like it would work better for their mindset. They owned this area, you all are just living there. And, like any animals that can produce things, you will pay your part. Does that sound a bit better? Honestly, antag ideas are weak for me. I don't usually have them. Coalf does this sound a bit better? On Raiders:
3. It's not really replacing things, it's trying to flesh them out. The major thing I disliked about Vox lore is that it seemed forgotten. It took several months for me to even learn that the Clans from the wiki had been retconned. As it stands, over half of their history section is "Wild conjecture, starring Richard Davis", but I feel like it misses critical things for the Vox. There are many unanswered questions, all of which would help to establish them as more than just "Merchant/Raider race with names like Kekekekekek". They completely gloss over the fact that the Vox have purposefully not settled anywhere, which can easily be explained with the Primal Source idea. Rather than a choice to not stop and repair, they have a drive to find their world, because everything will be better. The Cortical Stack, for one of the most valued organs, doesn't seem to have a concrete idea behind it, apart from letting Vox canonically die and then come back later. If the stacks can hold all memories of their previous lives, wouldn't most Vox be well-versed in almost everything by now? By putting a limiter on the amount of knowledge remembered, it gives a concrete reason for the Vox to not have insane skills. The Synthetic views section is mentioned briefly in the wiki, as they revere the Apex as gods. Since the Apex are biomechanical constructs like AIs, it would make sense that they would have great respect for the other AIs, even if they are less impressive due to the lesser races creating them. The Morality area was inspired by the line in the raiding parties: "Many share stories of great and clever Vox thieves, exaggerating accounts until the characters of such stories appear almost godlike." Throwing a bit of blue and orange mentality in there, it could be construed that living in their commune of a shoal, things are given when they are needed. Therefore, their society never really got caught up on the concept of property. However, they do understand what it means to die for something, as they would "perform kamikaze strikes on enemy craft." (Vox Apex, last line). The Raiders section is mostly just to give extra motivations for raiders rather than "Heh, nothing personal, kid." Now, they can feel smugly superior, as they are the better race, and are taking what they are owed. The FTL travel explains why, even if a group was willing, they would not come in-system to do extensive drydock repairs on their Arkship. It also makes much more sense than a giant bluespace drive, as even a small bluespace drive can knock people down. One on the scale of an Arkship could cause massive damage to both organic and inorganic things onboard. (General idea behind that was from Sword of the Stars for the drive type and Knights of Sidonia for the "What happens when engines turn on" scenario) The names are because the Inviolate explicitly says to "Adapt and expand to all circumstances." One of those things could easily include names. Names can give a lot of first impressions, so changing their names would be needed to adapt to some circumstances. A ship named "Harmond's Loss" would be more likely to be accepted than one named "Kekairiku", just based on the name. And if the Vox can get a foot in the door, that's all they need to start doing... whatever they wanted to do, really.
4. I'd say it really depends on what the cloak is made of. If it's as thin as a bedsheet, then it may be fine for humans. Taj could have cooling capes, made of whatever that material is that some pillows use to stay cool. However, those would fit better in the xeno thing, as they would be noticeably different. While not being the most "logical" of things like having a bar on a research station, the cloaks could have all sorts of IC meanings. My Sec cat keeps hers because it reminds her of what she wore back home. To discount something simply because it doesn't make concrete sense means that there's a lot of things that should be removed. Give me a minute, and I can hunt through, if you want.
5. Type (Species/Company/History/Other): Species Relevant Dates: >550,000 years ago, to now Basic Description: This was written to make the Vox actually have a bit of a culture that isn't just "SKREEE! TAKE TAKE SHINY!" It isn't specific on things, so that they can keep their air of mystery. After all, the only ones who fully know the Vox history would be the Apex, and they are not exactly in a talking mood. Long Description: Cortical Stacks Synthetic views The travelling of the arkships Morality On Raiders Contact Details (Discord Preferably): Adrae#0309
6. -4 for being an IPC. +1 for having dynamic characters, that change and adapt to events, rather than only having one defining trait. +1 for always being able to help me with my questions ICly and OOCly +1 for actually encouraging me, and helping me grow as a player and person +1 for Rowan, the adorable ball of fun she is. +1 because I think you could do it, and I want to see how you add your own spin to this character So, a net +1 to this app from me. I'm excited to see how they shape up!
7. Okay, so, I'm going to go through these in order, just so that I can make sure that I cover the points. While, for me, conservative is a bit difficult, I plan on having Nena be extremely shy and modest when she isn't in her "entertainer" role. While helping troops with morale, certain flirtation and clothing are expected, but when she is not acting to help the army, (So, most times), she would be wearing long dresses, not speaking back with sharp barbs or quips, and obeying all orders given to her by those in authority. She wouldn't be relentlessly beating down sec's door to do an interview, but politely requesting that they offer a statement or opinion. It's going to be difficult to do it properly, and I know I'm going to make some mistakes as Nena slips back into her entertainment persona, but I plan on her trying to keep her feelings inside for the most part. Even the inherent racism among the Tajara will be less noticeable, since she was taught to be able to respect everyone, regardless of race. They are all fighting for a better tomorrow after all. She just wishes Zhan-Khazan would bathe more often... While it wasn't easy for her to leave, both emotionally and economically, she was offered the chance to leave her home in exchange for a good amount of financial support for the Kingdom. Her new specific job was not to her liking, but it was for the good of the Kingdom, and she regretfully appeared in a clothing magazine, wearing much less than she would've liked. She was offered an honorable discharge, provided she would still answer letters and send videos cheering on the soldiers every few weeks, which she gratefully accepted. Now released to the galaxy at large, she would follow major advertisement agencies from place to place, never staying longer than a few weeks, until she finally got stressed out and quit. I would think that the Kingdom, with its focus on creating a new order and bringing light to the genocides of the Republicans, would make sure that their entertainment and morale officers would at least have digital media training, if only to be prepared to creatively enhance photos. Add that to classes she could take while doing her advertisements and modeling, and she would be able to have a degree soon enough. The ALA are a faction so far removed from the area she was in that she's never really encountered them. In a moderately controversial view, she thinks that the NKA and ALA could actually fit together, and make a world where everyone is happy. While they wouldn't fit perfectly, it would be better than a world with Republicanism. She would enjoy talking to them, since she views them as brothers and sisters in arms against the scourge that is Hadii. The PRA killed her friends, her family, her home. Their very existence is a monument to their sins, and the only redeeming factor of the PRA is that they haven't slaughtered the people of the Sana Sahira, but it's just a matter of time until the demon named Hadii sets his sights on the City of the Suns. Republicanism is genocide, bloodshed, and oppression. While she would not fight them, she would attempt to debate their ethics, since doubt is the first step to realizing that they are serving Raskara in the flesh. Once they recognize their wrongs, they can rise up against the evil of the PRA. Of course, if they were to become violent or she was to believe she was in danger, she would unashamedly ensure others would be on hand to save her from the violent barbarians. She always had a flair for the dramatic. Her original home is gone, but Dymtris is her new home. She misses it terribly, but knows she can do more by being away than being there. She believes the war is justified, as the PRA are a source of evil, and need to be stopped before they slaughter more innocents. Tau Ceti has had some troubles lately. With the attack of the Lii'dra, the solar system is finally realizing how awful wide-scale conflict is. The people who live there are skillful and strong, but they don't know true hardship. They, who've never lost their brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, or loved ones to one of their own kind. In that sense, she envies them. Humans, she is confused by. They have so many people, all shouting different things, and it is hard to find any unification among them. They are chaos incarnate, and yet, somehow managed to expand and even find Adhomai The Skrell, she respects. They understand the concept of political unity, and have saved more lives than she would ever be able to count, through their medical technology and skill. The Vaurca, she sympathizes with. They've lost their home, and have been welcomed into a new home. While some people can't seem to understand that not all vaurca are bad, she understands the idea. After all, not all Tajara are good. The Unathi, she fears. They represent what could happen if the PRA wins: Her whole world wiped out in a cloud of ash, dust, and radiation. They are a strong people, but are a constant reminder that her world could face the same end soon. IPCs are just machines that have thoughts. Interesting, but subject to more flaws than organics. After all, you can't ask an IPC to truly understand music, or to truly comprehend the beauty of the sunrise. For that, she pities them.
8. BYOND Key:Adrae Character Names:Lyla Mitchell, Topaz Woodward, Kristen Leach Species you are applying to play:Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Cream (RGB 205, 175, 149) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I like the lore behind both the race, and the current conflict. Their diversity is much more varied, with their various ethnicities each having their own roles. I feel like they are quite interesting, and that they have much more diverse opportunities than a human. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The focus on the war, as well as the motivations for each faction, set the stage for different sorts of RP than humans can usually get. The staining for them all, trying to support their factions while keeping civil aboard the station, makes much more interesting drama. Character Name: Nenasheva Denisovna Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs"She doesn't rrrememberrr much of what happened that night. Only the firrres, and scrrreams. Fleeing. The bombs. The bannerrrs of the Rrrrepublic arrrmy as they waved above the burrrning." Nenasheva spent most of her life on the move. When she was young, just on the cusp of becoming a teenager, her home was destroyed by the People's Repbulic army, and she fled with the survivors towards Dymtris. Refuge there was little better, as every day, more soldiers would be conscripted and sent to die. Terrified of being caught in the crossfire, she desperately pleaded and begged when she was conscripted. Thinking quickly, she offered her services to the recruitment and morale divison. Soon enough, she found herself as a poster child, her face gracing signs, begging people to protect her, and to help the Kingdom. As the years went by, she began doing more seductive poses, wishing the soldiers well, and anxiously waiting to see them when they returned home. Finally, she began touring with a group, playing instruments to cheer on the troops. She rose to fame among the soldiers, but quickly found herself in more and more dangerous spots. Finally, after a surprise attack almost killed her, she took a break, leaving the planet. She took a few jobs, and did a few modelling contracts, just to get her name out. Appearing in ads ranging from Zorane to Getmore, to even Battlemonsters, she became well-known, but burnt out. She had been saving her money for a time, but the cash didn't last. After a few years, she needed to find a new job to make ends meet. Looking through some fliers, she kept noticing the mentions of positions for Corporate Reporters. Quickly writing down the information for the companies offering those positions, she nods, looking over to see which of them had job openings that she could take. Narrowing it down to two, she flipped a coin from home. Catching it, she looked at the result. She was going to work for Nanotrasen. What do you like about this character? This character, while being directly involved in the war, wasn't actually a fighter. Her activities were just as vital to the war effort (Or so she believes), while also representing a faction there is not much talk about. I think it could be quite interesting to have someone who believes in their faction, but is entirely unwilling to be violent for her beliefs. How would you rate your role-playing ability?7/10, I guess? Notes:
9. +1 this nerd. I enjoyed all of their characters, even if I'm just observing. Doxx is always in the middle of things, spreading great characters and great RP everywhere. I'd love to see them as a HoP!
10. This idea is really what I'm waiting for before diving in to Medbay with any characters. As it is, the only way to do something like this is to talk to the HoP after coming on as an Assistant, and get them to change your ID.
11. Well, to give you some background, I've been playing RPGs and larps for about 13 years. I recognize that for every story ending in triumph, there are more that end in a shallow grave. That doesn't make it easier to lose your favourite. Michelle was my favourite. She was a self-insert in many ways, and I feel like I put more time and energy into making her a real person than I spent on myself . I regret losing her, and I continuously wish I could've had her be cloned at a later date, then returned after physical therapy or whatever. I had planned on finally promoting her to officer, and had even made a cadet evaluation sheet. There are two main reasons for me keeping her death as it is: 1. It wouldn't make much sense for NT to authorize cloning, an expensive and time-consuming process, for a cadet that is relatively cheap to replace. That's why I didn't have her get cloned on the Odin, and the IC reason she was DNC in her records ((OOC reason being every time I get cloned I spend the next hour getting mental shit fixed until the shuttle comes)). 2. It fit the narrative. It's fine for NPCs to die, in some people's eyes. They aren't real people, since the interaction was so limited. But when the death toll includes a player character, things get personal. No longer are the players allowed to just go "Well, it was some tajaran woman who died", it's now "My friend is the one who died." That's got much more of an impact than the death toll being: NPC one, NPC two, ERT member one.
12. BYOND key:Adrae Character names:Michelle Sulyard, Dayna Weisgarber, Celeste Judge How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Five-ish weeks Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:I would like to make it more common that we have a command crew. I like the idea of being someone who keeps the wheels going Why did you come to Aurora?:Heavy RP is something I like to do. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about putting your heart and soul into someone who isn't explicitly you. While they may have aspects of you, it is more like making a living work of art than a mask you put on. Roleplay is more than just your kill count or your arrest count. It is about feeling an attachment to your character, and letting them make decisions on what to do sometimes. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:A head of staff is there to make sure that issues that start in-game can be resolved in-game, one way or another, without either player feeling cheated. Their characters may think it's crap, but the idea behind the heads is that they keep IC issues from bleeding into OOC. Whether that's the HoS stopping security validhunts, the RD stopping the xenobiologist from going on a slimy slide of slime, or the HoP from stopping people from needing to cryo and rejoin. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are supposed to help others, and give guidance in any way they can, even if it's just a sympathetic word or personal advice. They are supposed to ensure that everyone under them has a round that is fun, and should work with the players to keep people engaged and excited to keep playing. If someone is unsure of what to do, they can receive direction and new goals by their command staff. The command staff is there to push people to be the best their characters can be. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Kristen Leach Character age:33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): "So, Ms. Leach. Your record is decent. But, the question remains. Why do you want to work for NanoTrasen?" "Darling, isn't is obvious? I like to be ahead of the curve." Born in Anemostrovilos, on the colony of Reade, Kristen Leach grew up watching the shuttles come in and out. She became interested in the "why"s of commerce, and the "how"s quickly followed. She spent her days as a young teenager following around crew of ships, asking for tips and advice on the way to keep books balanced. She'd spend the rest of her free time working with cheap stocks, understanding how it worked. Never feeling quite at home as a worker, Kristen was determined to become a manager. She entered university just before she turned twenty, graduating with a four-year degree in economics, with a minor in psychology. Going to work for Hephaestus, originally as a supply quartermaster, she carefully fostered the reputation of being a bit of a hardass. To her Cargo Technicians, she would always lend a hand, ear, or shoulder if they needed it, but those in other departments learned to ensure they did not submit extraneous requests. After several years of working in Hephaestus, she transferred over to Nanotrasen, hoping for more financial opportunities, and more ways to prove her economical accumen. What do you like about this character?: This character is kindhearted, but doesn't take extra crap from people. She's focused on making people work well, rather than being the one doing the work. What do you dislike about this character?: This character's going to be different, since they aren't personally running around doing things. Trying to play a character who is important is going to be a bit difficult, but I'm excited for the challenge. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Kristen believes that true productivity comes from happy workers, and that it costs more to train an employee than to fire one who may not be working as hard. She's going to try to resolve issues in a non-violent manner, and keep people smiling and happy. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:7 out of 10. I don't always know how to act, and sometimes I do things that I later feel were quite stupid. However, I always take criticism as a way to improve. Extra notes:I want honest opinions, not a "+1 because they kept spamming in OOC chat." Your opinions are really important to me, and will help me plan ahead with this character. Thank you for reading my whitelist, and giving it a chance.
