Reporting Personnel: Safaa Sadar Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Cargo Technician, Assistant Game ID: b9y-blRK Personnel Involved: - Nikita Yutani, Quartermaster: Offender - Safaa Sadar, Assistant: Victim Secondary Witnesses: - Malakai Hendricks, Head of Security: Initially asked over comms what Naledi was doing working in the Cargo department. - Sin Kenask, Engineer(?): Participated in the conversation after, approving of Naledi's reasoning, then complaining about the amount of items being sent from the warehouse. - Naledi, Cargo Technician: Nikita's girlfriend. Time of Incident: Real Time: ~4:30-5:00 AM EST 10/10/20 Location of Incident: N/A, pervaded the shift Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ X ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [ X ] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ Overview of the Incident: Nikita's girlfriend, Naledi, was given a position as a cargo technician while Nikita was acting as quartermaster. Over comms, Malakai asked why she was working in a department she isn't usually assigned to (she is an atmospheric technician), to which I responded "Because she is in a relationship with Nikita." While I had intended this comment in an endearing way, apparently Nikita thought it was quite offensive and began saying all of his cargo techs are morons and she does their job better than them, apparently including me. An engineer later complained that he was being sent so many items from the warehouse that he couldn't find anywhere to put them, to which I responded "I only send items a department can use." because I am proud of my sorting and am told it is appreciated. Nikita did not like this comment either, and began saying that I half-ass my job. I attempted to ask him if I had done something to upset him, both over comms and PDA and he did not respond to either. I elected to go into cryo due to feeling rather overwhelmed by the uncomfortable situation. Upon waking up some time later, I went down to Cargo to speak to Nikita about what he felt I was doing that wasn't up to his standards. He proceeded to tell me that his girlfriend does a better job than any other cargo tech and that central command demands that quartermasters empty the warehouse, which is untrue. Due to a catastrophic engineering failure, we were unable to continue the conversation, and I had left it there intending to try to talk with him about it again when we were both working in the cargo department. It was not left there, however, as on the ride home from the Aurora he messaged me once more about how I was lazy, half-assed my job, and ended it by threatening me not to mention his girlfriend again and to stay out of his way. Submitted Evidence: Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: The situation pervaded the entire shift and was continued up until the point when the shuttle was docking with the Odin, despite my not contacting him again. Actions taken: During the early parts of the incident, I came to Nikita to attempt to understand what I did to cause him to feel so strongly about my mental ability and work ethic. Additional Notes: 1. Nikita allows his girlfriend to help him with work even when she has visitor status. 2. Departments do not like for absolutely everything in the warehouse to be sent out. 3. This isn't the first time Nikita has been hostile to me or my friends. 4. I was recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Almost all of my knowledge of vaurca comes from learning in character, roleplaying with Aoan. Aoan is a good enough character that she makes me want to play an assistant and makes me appreciate the bug aliens that I previously shrugged at.

At first I was skeptical. But this seems like another really cool idea. Maybe we should work another amazing feat here. My main concerns are for people who are familiar with other servers coming here. We've already got the shell/borg construction making some new roboticists a little peeved, and now we'd have people getting all mad cause they didn't read the borg memo. Also, how would icons be picked? And if someone's in a robot suit, do they get access to the robot's tools, or does the robot need to do that for them?... Can they even use them?
-
As an off-topic tip for would-be robo-journalists, you wouldn't need any special tools to do this as is. Just go to a room not many people will use with a newscaster, activate it, minimize the window that comes up, and walk away. Voila, remote newscaster. It won't update automatically, because you can't actually see it, but luckily you can manually refresh it with the refresh button, and that will force the window to update. And the reason it needs to be seldom-used is because your session won't end, so if anyone wants to hijack your news feeds, they could.

I always imagine that IPC's are cooled by airflow and what not, which is why they need some kind of atmosphere and why being in an airtight suit will cause them to overheat. Therefore, as Jackfractal said; In a void, no air, no heat dissipation. Maybe station-bound synthetics have built in cooling units, because NT is more willing to pour money into them than a robot that isn't as predictable.

I don't know what your experience as a standard module was, Jackfractal, but people are telling you they are not useless. They can do pretty much anything well enough, and it's their job to determine what they do. If you can't think of anything to do as one, or can't see any way that they can be used, that's your own problem. That does not warrant removing it entirely. And to analyze the standard module as you outlined before: What does the standard module do? Provides a more RP-centric role. Can easily work in any department. Has the versatility to be utilized by anyone. Can serve any purpose it is applied to without it being strange. And so on. Now, if we correlate all of these, what does it seem like the intended design is? A versatile, general purpose robot. So, analyzing it again from that standpoint; What does the standard module do? Serves any purpose it is assigned to. Do its tools help in this regard? Yes, all of them. It is not bad because you couldn't play it.

I personally like Generic Model and Synthetic Assistant the best out of those. They would make the model pretty much what it says on the tin. And it's not a matter of being sacred, it's a matter of... Why would you remove something that works exactly how it was intended, enjoyed by a few players, and is perfectly good coding... Just because it annoyed someone? What are we, EA?
-
Pros of removing Standard Model: -New players may not be confused when they choose it. Cons of removing Standard Model: -No general utility borgs. -Loss of perfectly good content. -People who play Standard will be pissed. -Characters who use Standard will be ruined. I could probably think of more, but I rest my case. Just because you don't find any use in something doesn't mean it should be removed for everyone. I've met quite a few players who played Standard exclusively. They are most certainly not useless, as they can do pretty much anything to some degree, aren't bound to a specific department, and have a lot more time to RP. I spent the first half of my time playing here just playing a Standard Android because darnit that was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had, and I was useful to everyone, not just a few people in one department. Removing a feature for the sake of removing a feature is pointless and destructive. Nobody gains anything at all, except a few people who might accidentally use it and have to, *gasp*, find some way to be useful creatively and roleplay.

Note that- unless it was changed- borgs can only talk locally when locked down. That includes Binary, because I'm pretty sure that's a language and not actually a channel. So, if the AI is dead, and a borg is locked down in some completely abandoned place like, say, coffin storage as one of mine once was, nobody knows they are there and they can't get help because anyone who can hear them is dead. I get what you're saying, though.

You're forgetting Owls are nocturnal and eat rodents. Maintenance is dark, and mice live there. If NanoTrasen released owls onto their station, they'd probably want to do it in the maint. Also, an owl is easily small enough to fit through vents and corridors, unless you're talking big owls. Which would still fit, but it'd be uncomfortable for them. I mean, I'm pretty neutral about this idea. It'd be fun if it got through, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't. But you guys are just shooting it down without any further consideration. Even silly ideas deserve respect!
-
So, maybe- And this is a sketchy suggestion, because of the implications of performing the action... Give Borgs the ability to break out of lockdown, like people in cuffs? Granted, it's locked for say, like... Ten minutes. Or something. So they don't need to keep running back to the console all the time if you're actively being imprisoned, not just forgotten about. That'd mean that locking them down doesn't just end their threat permanently, and being forgotten about like so many Borgs are isn't a horrible fate.

I remember being followed by tons of ghosts all the time as Andy. I remember when Andy was light-hearted. Nobody likes him now. xD

Why is it labeled as "Do not merge"? Is this normal? Should we freak out?

A fun game for the whole family! Where's UNDEFINED the Assistant today? Oh, UNDEFINED! How ever did you get there? Where's security? Did you forget glass to make your computer? You silly goose! Who can guess where UNDEFINED is, kids?!
-
So, as someone who hasn't forgotten about this and personally cares, what's the status on this project? Do you need help with anything?
-
The only other workarounds I can think of is making it available to everyone, or craftable. Which wouldn't be too bad, as it's not anything particularly personal. It would just be strange to see humans walking around with it. The item I'm thinking of is a sort of "Internal Storage" item, which would require like two seconds of effort were it not for the name problem. It'd be a normal backpack, normal backpack item sprite (In case it was removed by Sec. We'd just say they bagged up all the contents, or something.), but it wouldn't have a display sprite when worn.
-
Hmm... Would it possibly work if it was added to the roster of loadout options for that ckey?
-
As some people know all too well, I've recently been experimenting with a character that features name-changing quite a lot. But, it also has something I'd like to make a custom item app about. But I'm not sure, would it even work, since its name changes so often?

Protip: You can use Ctrl+F on the protolathe and everything is 500% easier.

I like most of this, but... Why replace IPC's with the Shell? There are a lot of IPC's who specifically DON'T want to look organic (RENEGADE, for one. Andy feels pride in looking like a robot, but I'd be able to work it out.), at all, and would probably never be played again because of the change. Why not keep IPC's and ADD the Shell? They could have the same whitelist, even. Also, attaching laws to the brain itself... Hinders a certain few RP oppertunities, like the one time my Roboticist gave a Psych Evaluation to a borg's true personality by putting them in a lawless spiderbot temporarily. Edit: But then again, if they weren't attached BY DEFAULT, it gives oppertunity to RP as mechs safely without being crucified for letting loose a two ton death machine that hates humanity.

Oh, this is back? Andy (Android)... ...Is slowly making more and more extreme makeovers to the chapel, and has yet to be called on it. ...Is proficient in pretty much every department (Though lacks certification in engineering and security) but chooses to work in a position that doesn't even require assistant-level skills. ...Secretly has a mother but never tells her he considers her as such. ...Is a closet ion-addict. ...Knows amateur-level martial arts but only ever dreams of using it on Haruspex, because Haruspex may enjoy it. ...Always keeps spare batteries for robots. (Edit: By the way I kill threads any time I post in them.)

I still like Memes better. Meme noun an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation. http://wiki.baystation12.net/index.php/Meme

Ever heard about the "Meme" gamemode? WE NEED IT AND NO IT'S NOT THE KIND OF MEME YOU'RE IMAGINING GET OUTSIDE MORE
