Tenenza's Head Whitelist thingy
Lessick replied to Tenenza's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Table, I'm gonna have to veto your -1 on the grounds that it has no basis. Refer to this post, (which, by the by, I will be distilling and adding to voting rules if something like this happens again). But basically, instead of -1ing someone because you haven't seen much of them, make an effort to roleplay with them when you do see them on. Abstaining from voting because you haven't seen someone playing is perfectly acceptable. Downvoting them is not, especially when the player in question has been fairly active for a couple weeks now. Edit: Thanks for changing that. -
Any .bandcamp.com, probably.
-
Yeah, site restrictions is probably good, as long as it's not -just- one site that's allowed, and people can suggest allowed domains to be added.
-
Noooon nonono you misunderstand. I'm not talking about streaming in-client. I'm just talking about having something that posts a link, so people have the option of listening if they want to.
-
All we'd have to do is check that it's not a video, or trust that players will adminhelp if something bad gets put in. And maybe have part of the check be, [character] selected [title]: [link] so that we know who put links in? That or just have an adminlog for that sorta thing. People have the option all the time to put shit in OOC, looc, etc and don't. It's about the same thing, and I think our playerbase is generally responsible enough. And, again, if anyone's abusing it, we deal with them, just like any other instance of grief or bad.
-
Or... Well, on the other forums, I remember another suggestion was to have something that allowed you to input youtube links (or other music links); when someone put one in, it posted the link to nearby mobs, and also, you could see what was 'playing' by interacting with it. Yeah, it means the music's not playing in game, and it's more high-maintenance (can't tell when the music ends so you have to put in a new link every time-- or maybe be able to put in a timer?) but it serves about the same function.

LoneTophat's Whitelist Application Mk. II
Lessick replied to LoneTophat's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I think the key phrase here should not just be equally, but with respect. The staff here, every member of it-- we do this in our free time. Because we want to, because we want to help the server and see it grow. We deal with griefers and chucklefucks so that the players don't have to, enforce RP standards so that Aurora can stay somewhere people want to call home. We get enough shit for doing our job already. Griefers treat us equally. Equally bad. But damned if I log on to get verbally bitchslapped and argue pedantics when I could be doing something less stressful. There was about a week leading up to your whitelist strip where every time I had to PM you or contact you in LOOC, despite doing my best to be respectful it felt like you were sabotaging and undermining everything I was trying to say, to the point that I started dreading contacting you for both IC and OOC complaints against you and your character. It wasn't fun. That's not what I sign on to deal with every day. So yes. Listen to and learn from the modmins. And treat the modmins with respect. Because we're much more likely to be understanding and want to help if you're not second-guessing every other decision we make. -
LoneTophat's Whitelist Application Mk. II
Lessick replied to LoneTophat's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Top, the only reason I started developing any ill will towards you at all was due to the fact that you kept bringing up the complaint after I had specifically told you I wasn't bothered by it, and kept bringing it up in irrelevant situations as if to prove that my judgment regarding your other problematic actions was wrong. In every case I've dealt with you, I've been handling the issue at hand, and it's only after you've basically attacked me, questioning my abilities as an admin, that I started to feel alienated and hostile. One: I need you to take my words at face value. I take care to say what I mean, especially when I'm handling administrative stuff. Two: This is. Personal for me, but trust me when I say I do understand, to a degree, what it's like. About a third of my immediate family and a few of my very close friends are on the autism spectrum. It's not a big deal, and anyone who tries to make it a big deal or bully you about that here will be dealt with harshly. But while it does help explain some of your behavior and reactions to things, it doesn't excuse them. You need to interact with people as they are, not how you imagine or project they should be, and ASK if you're not sure you caught someone's meaning. Three: Admin PMs are not a debate forum. And asking "what would [ADMIN WHO ISN'T ONLINE] think" of staff decisions is immature, hostile, and irrelevant. Admins back each other up on decisions. It is not your place to try to undermine those decisions-- If you have issue with them, then yes, you take it to the forums. But if you get so upset that you feel the need to attack people you're talking with, then it's better to take a step back, say you're taking a breather, and resume the discussion at a later point. I'm here to solve problems; your behavior towards me since the night me and Meow fucked up has been passive-aggressive at best and upsettingly manipulative at worst. If the night you went CE, you had apologized and admitted your mistake, it would've been fine. However. You were already on thin ice after your previous behavior James Watson-- behavior which, mind you, garnered you multiple player complaints and forced Admins to bring in Centcomm intervention no fewer than four times, which is frankly ridiculous and a waste of our time. But after being contacted by admins for your decision to join as CE as a non-engineer, you essentially started slinging shit. You tried to, what looked like, blackmail and rules-lawyer your way out of the situation, and yes. We brought down the ban. Keep in mind that online moderators and admins can see every adminPM and everything said in LOOC, regardless of whose PMs they are or where the LOOC is said. Decisions are not made without accountability. Getting back on track. I don't have a strong opinion about this whitelist. Your roleplaying ability is not in question here. I do have the strong opinion that you need to clean up your act as a player. -
Since we don't have a like button yet, ^this. I've seen some stolen-name AI done in a way that wasn't cringe- or eyeroll-worthy, but they're few and far between. But the more famous the name, the more likelihood of them being crap seems to be. So yeah, how famous is famous? Is this gonna be a ban on all robot-referential names, or just the popular badguys?

Considering how many rounds the bad behavior as Captain went on for, how many notes there are about that, how many times Centcomm has had to directly intervene in response to James Watson's actions or lack thereof, and the complaints against him. How many warnings he's received, both IC and OOC. I'd honestly support a Jobban from Captain until Tophat can prove himself responsible enough to handle Head of Staff roles in general, and a removal of Tophat's whitelist after further infractions as a Head of Staff. ...And this post has been ninja'd. Twice. Okay. Tophat the point of the complaint system is to promote transparency, improvement of characters and behavior, and allow people to weigh in on decisions. Also, to let the players in question defend themselves. Surprisingly enough, admins don't see everything, and making player complaints public allows people to raise points that've been missed.

This was a case of a critical lack of judgment on my part, and poor planning. There were maybe four active players total, and essentially nothing was happening. Meow suggested a thing and it sounded hilarious and interesting. I didn't remember how destructive and griefy selvitorpedoing a body is. I'd also like to apologize to the three people whose round I ruined. I should have put up a vote, or established some kind of communication with the other players before giving Meow the go-ahead. I will refrain from making solo executive decisions at 2 AM in the future. u_u

EvilBrage's Eventual Head Whitelist Application
Lessick replied to EvilBrage's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I addressed that. Please read more thoroughly before responding to posts, Blue. Basically, if someone's trying to insist that their character who is not fit for a head position, is, then that shows poor judgment, and is probably a sign that they as a player aren't ready for a whitelist. ...Which is irrelevant, here. Do keep in mind that we've had characters that sounded great on paper that ended up being horrible in execution-- not because ICly they weren't fit to be a Head of Staff, but because OOCly, their players couldn't handle the role. -
EvilBrage's Eventual Head Whitelist Application
Lessick replied to EvilBrage's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm going to have to agree with Brage. Though unfit characters have been an easy reason to decline whitelists in the past, it's usually in the context of applicants trying to pitch their sparkling and immature 20-something powergaming super-geniuses as good Head of Staff material, which is more a reflection on the judgment of the players involved than the characters themselves. There's nothing wrong with using a non-head character to apply, as long as an applicant demonstrates they are responsible and mature enough to handle a Head of Staff role, understand the requirements, and are a good enough roleplayer to be on the whitelist. Which, I think, Brage has done. -
Due to our current and acute lack of a shoutbox, here's a thread for all minor announcements, short junk posts, confused communal server updates (IS THE SERVER DOWN GUYS) and other things that don't warrant a full thread. Disclaimer: If this somehow ends up turning into a debate or rant thread, I will be deleting posts liberally. Keep that to PMs and designated boards, guys.
