  1. -1 I've waited for a while, figured I would not post here publicly since we've hashed out things in DM as I prefer but per less than recent events I'm going to voice exactly what I did to you in private here on your application. I have few issues which I have raised to you and while they are only really two I can count that come to mind, they severely impact my view of you as a player who intends on bringing a character to the server as a Head of Security, let alone command staff. I'll point out clearly here and now that I have less of an issue with you personally, you're pretty chill once we started to hang out here and there, but as formerly stated, these are reasons I would prefer seeing you improve before you hold a command whitelist. My first of only two points would be your consistent LOOC whining about wanting to be put into cryo, asking the staff members for permission to ghost out of RP and so on which I have no idea why they grant, ever. I, as just a spectator have seen this happen and it just blew my mind someone who is so invested in a character is willing to just...leave a roleplay simply because it is not going how the character or player wants it to go. That is why in my mind, even if we have a friendship that flourishes, you're not truly as masterful of a writer as you claim to be. I mean no offense by this statement, but you using it as a reason to say you're 'good, pretty good' at roleplay is honestly laughable. My second really just ties into the first issue. I have taken my OOC time from a round and sat down for one-on-one RP with you between Warren and Nick to teach a few things that he was lacking. After that came radio silence for a while since the two didn't see eachother for a bit and then the cryogenic storage oversight pinging off that he'd been moved to storage. That left both the character and myself sour, and feeling like it was a way to avoid roleplay. Especially since I saw your handle in OOC for the next while during the round so....you were there online, and on Byond, and on Aurora. But not in game, as the character whom I'd planned out RP with on an IC level. These points aside, best of luck. I hope you improve your roleplay skills from an OOC standpoint before you move up to command staff. And if not, I wish you even more luck with what happens after. Lord knows we already have enough iffy-RP command floating around from time to time.
  2. +1 I wholeheartedly believe that Soulthief is very capable on an OOC level of command roles, and ICly their character Sterben has been a lot of fun to interact with, granted I have had only brief or end-of-round interactions with them me being security and them being the Chief Medical Officer. I hope that they are approved fully, he is certainly deserving of it.\
  3. Totally understandable! Just to clarify on my application's written response, by blank slate I meant more that they are pretty basic both in their goals and their way of thinking! I suppose since I wrote it, that is evident to me and I have the character concept rolling around upstairs and all. @kyres1 What's this private entity? What is their name, and why are they contracting things to NanoTrasen? Romanovich Mineral Industries, a smaller company based in the Romanovich Cloud in Tau Ceti. Presently on their eightieth anniversary, and still being moved farther out of the Romanovich Cloud by NanoTrasen and other larger companies in the mining industry, or with interest in claiming and buying out area. They have a much smaller claim than their glory years something like forty or so back, the peak of their expansion. Now, they are contracting their mining units to NanoTrasen as they hold claims on almost all of the well known phoron rich areas. With little area left to operate out of and even less chance of finding suitable metals and the like, they find other ways to stay afloat. Were they designed to feel this motivation, or did this develop over time? Kilo-14 was designed to feel this motivation. The people behind this held the idea that humans work best while motivated to do their work for many reasons, and that the synthetic would yield a much, much more profitable amount of Phoron in particular. With the drive set to be buy out their chassis and freedom, they do not recognize other ways to do so beside through their meager cut in mining, in turn their parent-company stands to make a lot of credits off of them.
  4. +1 Dark1Star as a player is a great person, and very fun to hang around with. Their character concepts are usually pretty solid, or they are fleshed out within a few rounds of playing them, so I feel that as a player that watched their newest character grow from creation to now that they either have solid ideas to begin with and flesh them out quickly or more likely already have a good grip of the RP that is expected of certain characters and roles. I give this player, and application, my full and undoubting support. Hope to see their medical character, seems like an interesting concept.
  5. BYOND Key: PredatoryInstinct Character Names: Malcolm Reeves, Head of Security | Jason Warren, Head of Security | Murdoch Suatrius, Shaft Miner | Hans Hofmann, Surgeon Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, extensively! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have been a long-time synthetic roleplayer, on SS13 and other platforms as well. I like the lore Aurora has for synthetics, specifically IPCs, and I feel I can work with so many options given the state of them in the setting. The options of different chassis to add more flavor and options just reinforces this idea. IPCs are generally the idea I have for when I roleplay a synthetic character in other settings, where things operate off of basic stories, and the way Aurora's lore team has fleshed them out gave me quite a good few pages to read through only making that desire to play one grow more and more. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Synthetics are wildly different than humans, let alone IPCs in specific. IPCs can have a wide variety of physical manifestations via chasis, rather than just being catch-all housing units for positronic brains. They can have personalities at almost the scope of most normal humans do, with obvious nudges in the right direction depending on what they were made to do. As far as roleplay and physical traits they are far removed from humans in that they do not feel pain, and their emotions are only external. Their true mind has no emotions, and generally react to things based on what happens around them. A strict restriction to cause-and-effect mentality in most cases. Seeing that they do not feel pain, can survive without atmosphere with little assistance and so on, they are able to operate under much harsher conditions and are able to reasonably act slightly deeper in a dangerous area where a human's self preservation would keep them at a wall the IPC could pass. That is not to say that they do not have self preservation, of course, they are after all very expensive and complex machines. Character Name: Kilo-14 Please provide a short backstory for this character Kilo-14 is a standard-issue Hephaestus Industries G1 chassis, meant for general labor and specifically tuned for hauling heavy crates and conducting mining operations in zero atmosphere with or without gravity. They have been issued to NanoTrasen and worked in the Tau Ceti region for almost six months, currently employed as a shaft miner for the NT station Aurora. They are owned and contracted out to NanoTrasen by a private entity. Kilo-14's current motivation to continue bringing in more than their quota of Phoron is to eventually buy out their chassis and freedom, granted they are a fair way away from that mark. For the time being, they toil in the Mines of Aurora's home asteroid in order to get ever closer to that goal, and with it being reached Kilo-14 is sure that they will find a greater meaning to their work. What do you like about this character? Kilo-14 is a bit of a blank-slate type with enough backstory to flesh out before I were to enter the game as them. I feel that they would be fun to roleplay based on the idea that they know very little about human tradition or culture, they are simply there to mine and do a good job at that. But learning about organics on the side would be sure to entice most curious synthetic minds. Granted, that could lead to some very interesting things if they were misled by certain types of people. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would say I am a strong 7-8, as reinforced by positive reaction by others to my roleplay. Notes: Thank you for taking the time to read my application. Any feedback, positive or negative helps.
  6. +1 I fully support this application, considering Lin Dyslioth for promotion and all. Having played many rounds as her Head of Security and even just watching sometimes as other roles or ghosting, I believe she has the IC and OOC fortitude to brave the role that she is applying for. I guess my only disappointment will be less roleplay with her, since I am a Head of Security main, hah! But really, that is a good gripe to have. Miss Natcula has been a long time RP partner of mine and the main reason I came to the Aurora. Over the years she has demonstrated respect for and willingness to uphold what RP really means and is. It is not just the Aurora for her or her characters, it is the entire galaxy that has effect on the character's mind. From small things like returning a ticket for reimbursement at Odin and the like. I see nobody really RP things that can or would occur outside of the station between myself, her, and such a small number of people I could count it on one hand. In short, with absolute certainty, I believe that Miss Natcula as a player and Lin Dyslioth as a character have the skills and knowledge required to be a Head of Security. I'd be happy to make an officer under Lin's command, unlike all but two other HoS characters I can think of off the top of my head. And as a secondary note to the banter going on in this thread, y'all really think that even my characters as HoS are completely blank slates with no physical, mental or emotional issues? Yes, they deal with situations quickly, efficiently and provide doors for antagonists to RP with, but they have their fair share of being human, just like Lin does. It is the difference between roleplaying a flat character that is just sort of along for the ride with small bursts of character here and there, but that ultimately fizzle out, and roleplaying a character that is nearly indistinguishable from a human person. I guess I'll toss my two cents in as someone who values roleplay and say that the ladder is where you should be aiming, and if it is not then we can simply look at it from a perspective of which is a greater concern- winning and gameplay, or story-building and roleplay. Pick and be honest with yourself which it is, because I know where both I and Miss Natcula line up.
  7. +1 She'sTrying is an excellent roleplayer with strong skills in writing, and her characters show that. She is good at writing the first page of the story, or at tugging on the first page and letting the story be made. I have had multiple RP sessions with her across multiple different shifts and I believe her OOC demeanor alone makes her a good fit for HoP let alone the character she plans to move or create for the role. I've watched her teach new players and sit down to RP with just one a few times in which she helps them learn the game mechanics as well as gives a guiding hand to their roleplay ensuring they know what level is expected on the server. ShesTrying is clearly a good player and trying to help others regardless of situation and would be an awesome fit. I would also love to interact with her as command staff, and to shovel all of my paperwork at her because I'd finally have a HoP to do so.
  8. BYOND key: PredatoryInstinct Character names: Malcolm Reeves, Hans Hofmann How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Daily for roughly two months, perhaps a bit more. Time flies on SS13. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I feel that between the character's IC knowledge, background compounded with my OOC knowledge of the game and systems used in the realm my character inhabits (Security) I would make a good addition to the list and be more able to help other players around me. Why did you come to Aurora?: I haven't played SS13 for a good four years, coming back to it Aurora was the first and only server I tried. The folk on around the time I play (Middle of the night, central.) are awesome, IC and OOC. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, of course. Before I started the server I spent an hour on the rules, jobs and then a solid three reading lore. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I have not received any administrative actions. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think roleplay is less of more than one thing in the way this question is phrased. To me, roleplay is taking control of a character in a game world, whether it is in an online 3D game, a board game in real life, simply all in imagination with dice to determine actions. Roleplay is taking that character and deciding their actions, reacting to things, all as the character. Essentially, it is to pretend you are someone else via a make-believe character. What it should be about is completely up to the setting, characters, their motivations, and drive. It is difficult to explain what roleplay should be about if it is left open like this, though the closest interpretation I can understand of the question I can answer like this. Roleplay should be about having fun and making sure others have fun. Even through conflict, anger, frustration and so on- but these things should be kept IC. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I believe the purpose of a Head of Staff is to give a slight guiding hand to the motion of things. To bring authority to a department as to not have chaos or self-appointed leaders that end up falling through in one manner or another. It is someone who is able to help people learn the department and should generally at least be familiar with every role in said department. Besides helping their own, they should have the ability to communicate and cooperate with other command staff in order to conduct the station as a whole in the way that it needs to react to resolve emergencies and so on. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Someone who is whitelisted for a command position should generally be knowledgable about their department, the game mechanics and roleplay. It is not even to the extent that a command staff should know about these things, but be willing to help others with them. Throughout roleplay or through other means to teach someone what they need to know to make their stay on SS13 a pleasant one. Nobody likes to be told that they are bad and not told how to correct being bad, or even what they are bad at. But everyone has room to improve. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Just ten years ago Tau Ceti severed from the Sol Alliance, under heavy influence of NanoTrasen. Since then the mega-corporation has had a heavy helping hand in the wealthy system's way of operations in many aspects, including military and economically. It has been to the point that the Republic of Biesel is almost solely reliant on NanoTrasen on these two fronts in particular. Because they have grown so reliant on NanoTrasen, the area is a hotbed for high paying jobs with an absolute monopoly on the resources of the system. This is what called to Malcolm Reeves for a change in pace from staffing corporate escort ships between Sol and Tau Ceti. What better a place to settle down than a station in an economically and culturally enriched system such as the NSS Aurora. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? I only plan to play Head of Security to be quite frank. I would need to play more of the other divisions to even think about playing one of their heads. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Malcolm Reeves, Head of Security. Makes sense ICly and the character is very well received already. I have another character I plan to bring in as a Head of Security with a bio and backstory nearly fleshed out. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate myself a strong seven or eight, though I believe everyone has room to improve. I am not excluded from that. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I do understand this and would have no issue with it being removed if ruled as such. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I have spent a long, long time making myself familiar with the other command roles even though I don't intend on playing them in order to know how they will be interacting with the role I do intend on playing. Extra notes: None I can think of, thanks for reading. Edit 1: Edited to make question text bold.
