SCCV Quark - new xenoarch shuttle - feedback thread
Nagito Komaeda replied to Dreamix's topic in Projects
I hope this is up for review, allowing for more Science characters to more independently do field research. Love this idea a lot. The main issue here would probably be the loss of a lot of maintenance space, though? And also, it would break a little bit of the standard of all the current shuttles being on the first deck - the dedicated hangar deck. -
Reporting Personnel: Osisra Devorask Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Executive Officer Game ID: cwv-dogf Personnel Involved: Ricky Oberst – Captain (Offender); Issued a suspension of a Command member over personal reasons. Osisra Devorask – Executive Officer (Victim); Suspended by Captain over continued disagreement in handling a situation. Secondary Witnesses: Percival Caladius – Chief Engineer; Participated in the Command vote. Veronica Volvalaad – Chief Medical Officer; Participated in the Command vote. Ivory Levi – Research Director; Present on the Command frequency during the situation. Bayar Yeke – Operations Manager; Present on the Command frequency during the situation. Richard O’Brien – Investigator; Recorded my recount of the situation. Time of Incident: Around 23:00-ish ship time. Real Time: 00:00 GMT+1, 3/11/2024 Location of Incident: Bridge Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [X] - Misconduct [ ] - Other _____ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: This one’ll be quite something. Early in the reported shift, Mining returned with a message of pirate activity in the Valley Hale sector. Mining crew was shot at and injured during their work. Upon receiving this report, the Command line began discussions about further actions. I took lead in coordinating Command, due to Oberst’s absence in decision-making. The location of the reported pirates was unknown, however, and we didn’t act immediately. Instead, I ordered necessary preparations in case we decide to combat this obvious hazard to the sector. After verifying and approaching the location of the pirates, and verifying a civilian captive, the Captain made the decision that we were not going to handle this situation. As this is a Captain-level decision, I initiated a Command vote, overturning the Captain’s decision, with the vote permitting Security to investigate the site and act according to their better judgement. The vote was discarded after a Head of Staff voted against. Subsequently, the Captain called me to his office and ordered my suspension. His reason was that he was not satisfied with my conduct surrounding the situation and the Command line. I refused to believe his objectivity, as his arguments centred around the disagreements between himself and myself. From my perspective, this suspension was ordered because I tried overturning his decision according to the SCC’s regulations surrounding Captain authority. Furthermore, I was refused consultation of Cornelius Huizhong. Under orders of the Captain, an arrest was made against me due to refusal to comply with orders. Said order was handing over my ID. I handed over my ID to Oberst after the third time he ordered my suspension. I accept this charge as being valid, due to not complying with the order, and I fully complied with any Security orders. I contest the suspension as an act, and request an investigation be done in Oberst’s management method, as I have witnessed him to be acting out of ego, status and personal bias against a decision I made that complied with regulations and falls within my authority as Executive Officer. Submitted Evidence: Due to my removal from office, I cannot provide any accurate transcripts or scans. The telecommunications logs of this shift, filtered to the Command frequency, will show the way I approached the situation. Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [X] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: Cornelius Huizhong – Head of Security; I voiced my full disapproval of the Captain’s authority while complying with the arrest procedure. No other heads were involved with the suspension or arrest. Actions taken: My suspension. Additional Notes: I’m not entirely sure if this constitutes as a canon IR because it was during an autotraitor round (which had no bearing on our actions), and because it has overmap involvement (due to the asteroid base PoI being involved).

Reinforce Engineering's Division of Labor
Nagito Komaeda replied to Mr.Popper's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
Probably two fire axes and one jaws of life. The fire axe is supposed to be the "oh shit" tool, while the jaws of life are more 'precise' as a tool as far as I can gather? -

Atmos Tech entering their halligan era confirmed. -
From experience, everyone on the Bridge - the BC, the XO, even the Captain & other Heads - are super willing to teach you. Hell, I jumped into BC without knowing how to fly the ship and I was taught in the span of an hour how everything works. I think for a lot of people, the prospect of jumping into BC is daunting due to the variety of responsibilities you have. Piloting the ship, communicating effectively, coordinating with other departments, using announcements, these are all things I can totally understand a new player to be terrified about. So, a BC 'intern' role. I don't think this is a bad suggestion, but implementing it is a little difficult. In my opinion, learning the mechanical part of piloting does come from Mining and Xenoarch and off-ships (and I don't even think it's that necessary, it's relatively self-explanatory imo.) Learning every other part of the job honestly comes with playing any job here. Because a lot of what the BC does is communicative, many departments will already deal with it throughout their own gameplay loop. I think it would be cool to have an attendant, or something, an 'intern' job with sole command radio access, who functions as a literal secretary. That way, people can look in the Command department without feeling obligated to authority.

SCCV Quark - new xenoarch shuttle - feedback thread
Nagito Komaeda replied to Dreamix's topic in Projects
General feedback on my end is that this should definitely be added, one way or another. Research does need its own shuttle to 'free up' the Intrepid, seeing as Intrepid will primarily be used for Odyssey. If the Canary was more suited for that purpose, the Canary would've been used - as it stands, the Canary isn't good for most science jobs, and as such the Quark is needed. I have a couple points & questions myself: - Is the Quark going to stay as a name? I personally don't like it (also because it sounds REALLY similar to Spark), but it's fine enough. - What's going to happen to exploration weaponry? Will it be split between the Intrepid and the Quark? - Who is going to be permitted to fly it? Will it just be the Xenoarchaeologist and Research Director? Or will there be an opening for more science characters to get flying permission? Overall, though, I adore this shuttle and look forward to seeing it fly and to be on it myself! -
Hangar Tec. Atmos Tec. access... Canary speed
Nagito Komaeda replied to Estutes's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
The Canary isn't that slow, from my experience flying it. It speeds up very quickly, especially in comparison to the Horizon. That being said, having it be a little faster wouldn't hurt - it would make the Canary a reasonable option for doing away missions if the storage space of the Intrepid, or the presence of the Horizon, are unnecessary. As for hangar access, yeah I could see it - the big issue would be people taking items out of the Canary (looking at the Wyvern hardsuit primarily), but then again, the Intrepid is almost fully open too. As long as the windoors in the Canary stay access-locked, it should be fine, I think. -

Adjust the regulations on shuttles departing.
Nagito Komaeda replied to greenjoe's topic in Policy Suggestions
Hard agree. It makes a lot of sense for the Bridge Crew to be tasked with keeping track of the in- and outbound ships. Furthermore, it makes sense for alert-based protocol to be in place - during Green, just a heads-up is needed to leave, as the shuttles are permitted to operate independently, while during Blue or higher, permission/clearance is needed due to potential risks. And yes. I'm biased. -
Toomie's Command Application.
Nagito Komaeda replied to Toomie's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've known Toomie for years, and I personally introduced him to SS13. Toomie shows the ability to learn aspects of the game fast. Over our years of playing, I've seen him play just about every department, grasping their responsibilities and mechanics. He's gotten a LOT better at communicating over the years playing the game, and I think giving him a trial here would be an excellent opportunity to add yet another great roleplayer to the Command line-up. A definite +1. -

+1, transhumanism and extreme augmentation is an interesting part of the setting and this will make that aspect just a little more unique. -
Let me cook. Operations currently has only two corporations working in it: Hephaestus Industries and Orion Express. I propose that the PMCG gets added to this line-up, bumping the Operations companies to three. Some arguments are as follows: Having just Hephaestus and Orion in Operations, while reasonable, makes it difficult for more anti-corporate characters to work Operations. I'm primarily looking at Himeans and Aut'akh here, but Hephaestus is a very divisive company, and Orion is clasically considered 'unskilled' labour. Adding the PMCG to the line-up gives a new company option, thus stimulating diversity in Operations (and the PMCG has a LOT of diversity.) Furthermore, I could imagine hangar work (sans maybe weapon loading) be considered 'punishment' for misbehaving PMCG personnel, as opposed to the standard janitorial duties often issued. The PMCG is a military contractor, but a large aspect of good warfare is logistics. Having '(para)military' personnel handle the supply lines of the Horizon seems like it'd make sense - these guys are trained to follow protocol, to follow orders, and in a department that's both about effectiveness and profit (through bounties), those guys are good to have. Orion is about speed, Hephaestus is about bulk, have the PMCG be about efficiency or structure. It gives the four Operations jobs new ways to be looked at; Hangar Technicians? They could be flight deck technicians for combat ships, handling the quick refuel and loading operations. They could be logistics personnel at forward bases, outposts, whatnot, holding a light security background of sorts. They could even be considered an entry for PMCG personnel into the corporate world, before making their step up to Security work on a ship, station or outpost. There's a lot of opportunities here. Shaft Miners? Personally I'd see these renamed to, or given an alt-title in the form of EVA Specialist, but these are your salvage personnel, able to assess away sites for certain hazards, and recovering mission-critical equipment. I'm drawing a parallel to diving specialists in the military here, for example. This would need a little care not to take over Engineering's expertise, though, and this one may also need some thinking since it would draw the Spark away from usual mining operations that Science and the Workshop rely on. Machinists? There's finally a solid reason for Machinists to focus on military hardsuits and armed exosuits. Be it the manufacturing, deployment or field testing of new combinations and technologies. Additionally, it would make sense for the PMCG to have their own subset of 'mechanical' doctors since they also hold a presence in Medical. The Operations Manager? Quartermasters, drill instructors, they can go from 'production manager' to 'Alright listen here maggots' style instructors. There's a lot of breadth to be had here, in my opinion. There's a potential lore angle to involve this, too, by showing how the humanitarian aid given by SCC vessels (the Horizon, following the Unathi arc, for example) really benefit from organised field supply. Controversial point, but this would also give a little more of an in-character reason for Operations to order weaponry if shit hits the fan and all hands need to be on deck. I understand this might clash with the recently-passed changes surrounding demilitarization of the Horizon, but I've held this thought for a while now and just wanted to put it out there. Whether it sticks or not, I've cooked.

Corporate Representatives, the Dystopianing
Nagito Komaeda replied to Lmwevil's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
This feels like the core of what the Corporate Representative should do. Ideally, they could go "I want all Zavodskoi personnel to line up here for uniform inspections", and the department's heads of staff facilitate this. After all, being a part of the SCC means appeasing to the individual companies that make up the body of the SCC. Personally, I'm all for this, as long as this is done with tact. Corporate Representatives are locked behind the Command whitelist, which should already indicate a base level of trust in the players. People should be wary of their corporation's representative, but they should still be able to tug on their boss' sleeves if the representative is being obstructive of SCC goals.
