For Clarification, I do NOT want a checkpoint every round, it would be annoying; but I also want it to be an option that command staff and security have. So, a new player will be forced to be nice to your character one minute after joining the server for the first time, or be shoved in the brig and possibly demoted? No, a new player won't be forced to be nice; and they would only be arrested, as Fowl said, when they try and force their way through, or try and burn through walls. Partial reasoning for the checkpoint in the round that sparked this; and a very good reason for them to appear infrequently. That is what Player complaints are for, if you do NOT use them, then nothing can be done, that is literally the entire point of the section, we cannot force you to use it; but if you refuse to, then nothing will occur as NO ONE will be aware. Then do this, rather than hurling insults; all your insults are doing is sparking aggression and antagonising people, generally people react better to not being called Anally retentive when you are trying to persuade them; no one has insulted you, pay them the same courtesy. The process at the checkpoint (from my experience) was literally, walk up to the window, put your ID on the counter, the officer filled in your information on a form (which took about five seconds), and then all you had to do was sign and then you were buzzed in. EDIT: I'd also like to point out that it wasn't just IC disgruntlement that Cassie displayed, but in OOC as well. Yes, but that's missing the point of this topic. I'm tired of the bureaucracy "gameplay" in general, and if I can't avoid any form of unnecessary paperwork I'd rather not play. Even if it's the simplest paperwork ever I just refuse. It's repetitive, annoying and stupid and should only be left to the players who like it. This is a Heavy Roleplay Server of a secure facility; no matter what you do, there will be at least a small amount of paperwork; I can only think of a few jobs that can escape paperwork entirely, those being bartender, librarian and chaplain. I would also like to note, before it gets thrown at me; I do not like paperwork, I detest it; but I know it is an essential part of the game for some people, so I cede ground and let them have their enjoyment; I can get back to having fun very shortly afterwards. Yes, I don't want any part of it. I dislike paperwork so much that I'd actually dread arriving on the station if this sort of thing was actually a common theme. There's no point of it IC'ly and I've explained why I don't like it so I don't like repeating myself. It's not like I actually walked up to something IC'ly and chose to partake in something that needed paperwork. Paperwork at this point was essentially required to partake in the server if you think about it, and through that I would call it roleplay grief for people who really, really dislike paperwork. Paperwork was always the marmite of HRP servers. I dislike paperwork, what's wrong with that? Refer to previous point about jobs and paperwork. Again, cut the insults, all you are going to do is get people angry with you, and that will not progress this situation at all. Absolutely nothing... Up until the point where you demand people change their reasonable, IC actions for your satisfaction. See my point about my own stance on this. I'm not one to judge, but this just sounds like you being picky and unreasonable. You're fine with typing out huge, detailed paragraphs for the sake of RP, but when someone wants to ensure IDs are valid, you refuse to type six digits? Your enjoyment doesn't override that of other people, what is a minor inconvenience to you could be quite fun for them, consider other people's enjoyment in events. You've recently arrived on a High-Tech research station, one owned by probably the most hated corporation in all of Human existence. An extremely quick security check, to verify your Identity and ensure you're who you say you are makes perfect sense to me, and just about everyone else I've talked to about this... What Dea said here. Name one establishment that has ID cards on employees that enforces this ridiculous procedure every shift. Because I guarantee you won't find a single one. The military base I live on has this procedure. It's the other way around, isn't it? No, it isn't, currently, the status quo is that the Checkpoint can be justified, through antag actions or random events. It isn't unreasonable to check that IDs are correct on arrival anywhere. It's unreasonable. All I really see is "I DON'T LIKE WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING. CHANGE!" Which just comes off as downright childish. Civility on both sides is going to help resolve this. No, No it's not. They are NOT forcing you to abandon anything that makes sense ICly (Apologies if your character is based around refusing to sign paperwork). They're not throwing you in a backroom, strip searching you without a warrant and imprisoning you. They're politely, and considerately telling you to show your ID to them, and write your name down. This. Can you read the original post again because that's not what I am talking about. I don't care about that kind of paperwork. I'm talking about unavoidable arrivals paperwork. I don't like paperwork in general but I don't really care if the HOP or the roboticist or wherever has paperwork. Cassie is correct here, this is just related to arrivals paperwork. That's what you're trying to reduce it to, but quite frankly; I already explained that I don't have a problem with paperwork if other people are doing it. I have a problem with obligatory paperwork I cannot avoid. That is a very tiny thing to ask for a useless game mechanic which doesn't really have much benefit or change to the server gameplay other than wasting a minute or two in a pointless queue at game start. It is wasting a minute or two for someone else's enjoyment, which I, personally do not begrudge them; that is how they are amusing themselves; it isn't breaking the game. Wow this pointless IC mechanic really makes me feel excited! Especially when it's not here every shift. Especially when the AI and/or security members could be fucking off and/or absent just like the HOP! This is so exciting tell me more! Tell how to roleplay the cognitive dissonance of the inconsistency! Whenever I type [sign] into the message box my heart skips a beat! I run down the hallways with the many anticipated wonders of standing in my department doing my exciting repetitive IC job! This is just such a great idea I can't wait for everyone to start roleplaying this mechanic despite the mismatch of the errors it has as stated in the previous paragraphs! Horrible sarcasm aside, the whole paperwork thing is an example of many things wrong with the disturbed game mechanics of this server, so don't think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. The straw broke the camel's back, to say. Cut the rudeness, doesn't help. I believe that the checkpoint should be inactive, up to the point where something happens ICly, that can activate it, such as a captain's decree, a random event, or antag action. If you think the captain shouldn't make one on a whim, complain, ICly, OOCly, use the incident reports, file it under harassment or waste of resources, Duty Officers will take care of the rest, as it could easily be deemed unnecessary. Well, I'm growing tired of this issue, imagine that? I have a point, I'm not the only person who feels the same way as I do - I'm simply the only person who is willing to be made into curried lamb if I can get my point across. If you don't agree with me, fine. But my topic is here, what I said is said, and my feelings are reasoned, valid and justified. You would have a point if the checkpoint was every round, I would find that intensely irritating, but it isn't; so the situation is more murky. Again, rudeness does not help make your point, all it does is antagonize people like me who then get angry when we post in retaliation. Arrest records are a thing, but they do not need to be overly complex, as you have said, agreeing there; but they do need to be a thing. The checkpoint should not be every round, and should be set up due to player initiative in reaction to IC events, as stated previous. Requesting staff demand verbal (radio) permission is okay. Having people fill paperwork for any of these things is ridiculous. Agreed.

If done correctly, it welcomes new players to the shift, and can give them needed information. It gives bored officers something to do, it can direct assistants to where they are needed; it can add something different, without antags to a round. See above, it has nothing to do with angry sec, all the new arrivals need to do is sign a single form, then they are on station, possibly with more information. A sec officer that arrest someone who signed in fairly, is going to be in trouble. Sec isn't always bad. Arresting someone who is too unstable to even sign a register is a good thing; new players will either go along with it, as they will listen to what information they recieve, or they will be confused, Ahelp, and it will be sorted; it is only when someone repeatedly insults the officer, and shows less restraint than a five year old that they would be brigged.

No. In that round in question, your character decided to, instead of literally signing a register to enter a secure facility, which is done the world over now, they were going to go as far as insulting the officer who was seeking the signature. If your boss as a Data admin was to suddenly enforce a register, they would be entirely in their right to do so; their workplace, their rules; if the captain wants to do this, it is also fine, it isn't breaching space law, it isn't breaching SoP. If I was to go up to the gate of the military base I lived on, and tried to go in, then screamed at them for trying to make me do paperwork; note, these are not police officers, and are unarmed. They would be entirely in their rights to call backup personnel; up to and including putting me somewhere while the police arrive, put me on the curb, or call the police to arrest me for attempted access to a security facility and causing a public disturbance. On station, they can't put you to the curb, unless you can breathe vacuum; and they can't really call the ERT, the closest thing to police in the game, to deal with an assistant having a hissy fit over having to sign their name on a register; in effect, legally stating that you have arrived, so they are in their full rights allowed to arrest you for illegal entry to a secure facility, as you have not made your arrival official through the register, meaning you aren't crew, you are tresspassing, and you tresspassed deliberately.

ATLAS: Sol National Union
Gollee replied to Vittorio Giurifiglio's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
The child soldiers part was a misreading on part, when I alerted Jackboot to this, however, enforcing mass action in anyone is indoctrination, the most vital part of turning normal people into guiltless soldiers. I would be very, very suprised if the Sol Alliance allowed a political party to indoctrinate children openly. -
I dropped £1300 on my current laptop, it was on offer. It can run almost anything, and with my internet I can run WoW at high graphic settings, with 90FPS.

Millions is about right, it gives each person 1225m^3 of space, which seems excessive until you take station superstructure, amenities, power facilties and other essentials into account, and public areas, you could probably have a million people with 15000-250m^3 of space each, which is very luxurious, and still have plenty of space for everything else, and free accomodation.
-
Other than the space issue, I do like this, plutocratic states are fun. There is a very good example of one in the Night's Dawn Trilogy, by Peter. F. Hamilton; the Bitek Habitat, Tranquility.

The population is definitely an issue, running the maths on the volume, discounting vital systems like air control, temperature control, reactors, so all of of it is for living space and that alone, each person gets slightly over a cubic metre of space.

Completely altering someone's DNA is a massive endeavour, I believe the Changeling does it through aggressive cells carrying the DNA being injected into the victim; this would quite likely leave nodules or tumors as I have suggested. Whenever I use it, it is to disguise a victim; generally as a living crewmember. It could also be an idea to raise the chemical cost, as it is a major change; or have the effects take place over time, and the character slowly shifts into the new DNA.
-
A few days ago, we had a changeling round where tge transformation sting was used extensively, leading to half a dozen Fortune Bloises running about. While this was actually quite fun, it did bring up an issue, if you are transformed, and the geneticist isn't making backups, or you have yet to get one then, boom, no chance of return, you are that character for the entire shift; which can be irritating and breaking when the 'ling is just stealth stinging everyone. So my suggestion is that when you are transformed, a record of your original DNA is kept somewhere internally, possibly in a tumor or similar; allowing a dedicated searcher to find it, and use it to restore your DNA. This tumor wouldn't be easy to find, especially for dead bodies. The tumor could also cause various illnesses, slow toxin increase, organ/genetic damage.

Second session! More nat1s and nat20s! The Barbarian dropped a battering ram on someone, then proceeded to sit on it. The Bard shot up Kobolds and cultists with a pint-sized crossbow. The Tiefling misjudged a situation, and nearly got eaten by a lizard. A big one. He also sent a group of cultists on a merry hunt through the city. The fighter killed many things; including the back of her own head, when one of her throwing axes ricocheted off of three walls, a kobold, and then hit her in the back. The rogue ran into a group of enemies, and in classic fashion, attempted to accept their surrender, with the sterling phrase, "Hey... Uh... Surrender!" Promptly rolled a nat20, and all the kobolds ran away.

None of my Syndi-ops are stationside. However, one of my older ones sort of got adopted. I think I posted the story somewhere, based on ingame events, and then an event.

+1, Tool is a long time, competent player, and I trust him with this whitelist.

When Inis was transformed into an Alien Queen by Jaylee Zaun the Wizard, she kept her original personality for a short while, fleeing from people who might see her; as she thought (Correctly) that she was a monster; however, as time progressed, her original personality became less and less dominant as her new form took full hold, leading her to attack Virology, and Xenobiology; only barely delaying long enough from an attack for the virologist to escape. Then she laid a bunch of eggs in Xenobio, left for somewhere... I've forgotten where, and while she was gone, Zaun got facehuggered in Xenobio, and popped on the escape shuttle during transit.

New New Necron codex; with horrifying fast attack and FNP through the ceiling.

Hello! General forum lurker here. On to business, I was wondering if any of the rest of you play Warhammer 40K? I have a 14,000 point Necron army myself; and I am currently sat with their new codex on my knee, laughing at all the ways it can make the dirty imperials cry; because there are quite a few in this new edition. Generally I play against IG, Orks, Tau, Grey Knights, Chaos Space Marines and Dark Angels. Though occasionally I get to play against Space Wolves and both breeds of Eldar. Never been in any serious tournaments; only the ones set up in my local club; which I lost due to that annoying DA player.

It isn't needed in speech, it is just a one off couple of paragraphs they needed for space filler on a design.
