  1. If server rules are broken, we are obliged to bwoink people. Bwoink is the most minor possible action from us - not even a punishment - but one we need to do. Even if no further action is taken, it lets a player know they over stepped. This is done with the best possible intention - to allow a player to grow. My own past has plenty of these mistakes, and the careful explaination of what I did wrong by the admins of that time helped me grow as a player too. The lines is admitedly very hazy, and it's via small corrections like this that I myself was able to develop like I have. For minor ones, we even let it play out IC still. Without the example which actually happened which you want us to ignore, I'm not sure what this thread, "let people break the law", is for? You've created made up hypotheticals while ignoring the hundreds of real examples of us allowing people to IC break the law and for IC security to deal with it. It's even happened once this past week, though you may not have been around to see it. I'll leave this thread with the two points I said already but you seemed to have ignored. We already do allow characters to break IC laws. It's happened a lot including MAJOR regulation breaks. Doing so should be done with the best of roleplay intentions. You are not allowed to break the rules to accomplish these. If in doubt, ahelp to ask. We really don't mind. We are usually permissive with good reason, or can provide recommendations on alternatives.
  2. Date: 19/04/2468 Supply Status: N/A Horizon Location: Al Maqdisi Current Destination: None The Horizon will presently be in Al Maqdisi, home of the Republic of Assunzione, where it will take on supplies and crew, allow exsisting crew time for rest and relaxation before the operation and allowing the Horizon to be fully repaired. No destination has presently been set, however one can be determined if the crew are unable to provide one of their own.
  3. Right. I'm going to straight up say what I said before, again, because you seem to have missed the point. And I am going to spell it out more clearly. You are allowed to play a criminal character. You are allowed to break regs. Everything you're saying "could" and "should" happen, HAS happened. From extended drugs investigations and jail time, to a deluge of petty crimes leading to a firing. CCIA literally have nearly 300 cases in the past 5 years of IC policing IC issues - very often criminal activity - it's kind of their job. I'm not even going to mention the perhaps thousands of canon arrest records which don't reach the CCIA. Just because you've not seen it, does not mean it does not happen. What this thread is about, it seems, is you are unhappy with been bwoinked for what the mod team reasonably agrees is minor powergaming. There is a line between playing a criminal character and breaking the IC rules. Breaking into areas you don't have access to, to gather materials you don't have access to, using skills outside of your job role (note these rules have not changed. Is your character a telescientist or a weapons scientist again?) "just becase" is the issue. And I note I added the word minor above - this is not something you were issued any punishment over, just talked to over. So what crimes can I commit? I cannot provide an exhaustive list - I am merely going down the regs and pointing out ones I think are fun. so here is a few examples. I wrote it on some of those, but these are all permissable. There is a reason people joke about Suvek "Warcriminal" Tokash. It's not something he did in an antag round, but something which happened canonically, with serious consequences. The difference is, all of this must be done with serious roleplay intent and with a character set up for it. If John Sol, doctor, not an antag, ran into the bar and started trying to kill someone, we'd bwoink them. If John Xanu bwoinked us first, said "John Biesel and I have been fueding for months. We've been talking OOC and we think the freud justifies a murder. Here is a brief summary of months of IC canon antagonism between the two, also you can ask their player they're up for it. Can we do an IC murder?" we might allow it. We as modmins are not here to be your enemy, to enforce arbitrary rules. We're here to ensure everyone has as much fun equally as possible. As Maxspell said, we have to ensure foremost that other people are not having their roleplay and mechanical oppertunities missed. In the xenobotany case, a more roleplay forward way would have been to approach an engineer, maybe offer them a bribe to help you get the item. It create a roleplay situation, brings people directly in, lets the engineer do their job. I rambled a bit myself but I'm going to end this post with Don't be afraid to bwoink us first and ask / talk things over. You'll find we can be permissive, or offer alternative options for what you want. This is a surefire way to avoid been bwoinked over something you're doing, if that is something you are worried about.
  4. People are allowed to break the law. We have multiple instances of it been done, one character even spent 6 months in jail after a weeks long IC investigation by two investigators (one of which was me). Our only OOC rule which prevents it is making a believable character and no self antagging. We even in the rules allow none antag canon murder in theory. The issue isn't our rules or attitudes as admins. It's just people are very precious with characters and too cautious to lose them. Higher level crimes can and do lead to IC consequences (character been fired or spending long times in jail) which can be tantamount to losing a character. A serious roleplayer who has invested time in a character very often doesn't want this end for them.
  5. [Any OOC Infomation will be hidden. If you have any OOC questions, please feel free to ask elsewhere and I will try and update this post so anyone can find the answer. All players can reply to this thread, but replies must be purely IC - treat this as an IC thread on the relay!] All Crew Thread: Operation Deep Dive Date: 18/04/2468 This thread is closely monitored by human resources. Any misuse or "spam" will be hidden. Warning: All the infomation contained in this thread is considered a corporate secret. Any crew member found to leak this infomation to people outside of the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate or other pre approved organizations will be charged with i308 - Corporate Espionage, immediately suspended and placed in holding until transfer. Horizon, As you prepare to arrive in Al Maqdisi, it has come time for a more through and in depth brief of Operation Deep Dive. As you know, the Chainlink hopes to follow up several leads indicating a phoron source within the Lemurian Sea. As you may also be aware, the Lemurian Sea is perhaps the one of the most dangerous sector of space in the Orion Spur. Be reassured that the Central Command would not approve of this mission if a minimum level of safety could not be guareenteed, nor would they do so if they were not reasonably certain of a presence of a phoron source. In short, these pieces of infomation as as follows: BSSB assets have confirmed the presense of an illegal "purple market" of Phoron within the Republic of Biesel, with strong certainty of it's presence throughout human space. Over a dozen shipments have been traced, originating from within Light's Edge, but a recon mission indicated the true source was within the Sea. The recent Nralakk-Conglomerate Agreement between the Second Nralakk Federation and the SCC allowed the sharing of infomation, which included the presence of "havens" within the Sea (more infomation below.) The Republic of Assunzione and the Assunzione Expeditionary Corps have backed up the infomation provided by the Federation. The movement of other state and corporate actors towards the Sea - often illegally and covertly - confirms that the SCC is not alone in this revelation. Havens The AEC and the Federation have independently confirmed the exsistant of "havens" or "islands" withing the Lemurian Sea, small pockets no larger than a star system where the fog does not penetrate. With accurate chart and extensive preparation, a straight-line warp jump to some of these pockets can be performed with some degree of safety, and with the help of AI, be reversed to leave the Sea, assuming the ship does not leave the haven. This is still fraught with risks. It is unknown how stable such havens are, or the movement of stellar bodies in the fog. Recent, upto date information on safe jumps will need to be acquired to ensure the stability of a haven. The Horizon will NOT be authorized to move beyond the outer edges of the Sea unless authorized, due to the extreme risk involved. Additionally, the Horizon is only authorized to spend limited times in the Deep Sea to mimimize the risks, especially that posed by ADPI. Infomation Gathering The Horizon's primary mission during phase one is to gather infomation regarding the havens - or rather, precise, exact jump co-ordinates. The local spacers and colonists who live along the edge of the Sea and in Light's Edge have a high chance of knowing of the havens, and the correct one may have more specific infomation. The Horizon's crew is expected to use every oppertunity to gather infomation, and Command is authorized to use any means to gather relevant data. Operational Funding and Supply During this operation, it is suspected supply will be limited. Due to the danger posed by the Sea, and the increase in pirate activity in Light’s Edge, it is highly likely that beyond a certain distance of Assunzione, Orion provided logistics cannot be guaranteed in a high enough capacity to meet the Horizon’s supply needs. You will shortly be receiving an extended supplies shipment while in Al Maqdisi, however depending on the length of the operation this may be insufficient. Therefore, command is been provided a total of one million credits (1,000,000cr) of operations funding. This funding is to be used for expenses related to this Operation ONLY. Other uses of this fund will result in punitive action. Operations related expenses are expected to include the purchase of supplies from independent spacers, alongside payment for services or information, as and when needed. Command are encouraged to “think outside the box” when it comes to supply also, as relevant materials can be found from other sources. The “bring a hydroponics tray home” initiative, trailed during the Cresent Expanse arc, is been renewed, if any crew member wishes to earn a small bonus. Navigation The Horizon’s first destination has yet to be determined. Chainlink navcharts of this region are lacking in relevant, recent information. Due to its proximity to the Sea, and the increase in pirates, we cannot determine with certainty if any out-of-date locations remain relevant. As noted above, we are relying on the crew to determine points of interest. Should nothing of use be provided by scheduled transit dates, a predetermined course will be provided. However, we suspect such destinations will be out of date, at best. Conclusion Horizon, this mission may either lead to nothing, or a discovery which may change the future of the Spur's politics forever. In this most unstable time, the stability that may be provided by a new phoron find is the dream the Chainlink has for tomorrow - one of continued peace and prosperity for all. Know that you go with the hope from all the peoples of the Spur. - Yin'altorz Qreblikis, Section Director (SCC) This is an open thread. All employees of the Chainlink may reply here with infomation, or to ask questions, using the format below:
  6. I'd just like functioning body cams for expeditions only (that is - working off ship), purely for AIs and the one command member forced to stay behind, and for them to NOT be circuit exclusive.
  7. As this has been implemented, this is been locked and moved to complete.
  8. On trial until 16 APRIL. Be sure to post this thread once a round to gather feedback!

  11. A new player RP guide has long wanted, and I see you've taken your guide from the same base as we were looking at too - and if you check the sandboxes your start is thus remarkably similiar to what I was slowly working on. I cut some things, such as the definitions of differeent RP levels as it's not really needed for us, however I think you hit all the major points.
  12. Hello! We really wished to see more feedback, and to see more rounds played during this extra extended trial. Because of a lack of both, we will be rejecting this whitelist for now. We welcome you to try again in the future however!
  13. Crew Service Announcement: Port Volturno Date: 26/03/2468 During the SCCV Horizon’s participation in Operation Deep Dive, your port of call will be Port Volturno, District of Triesto on Assunzione. Visiting During the planned stoppage in Al-Maqdisi, regular shuttles provided by Zeng-Hu will be available to ferry crew between the Horizon and Port Volturno for the purposes of shore leave. To book free passage, off duty crew must book a free slot via their employment portal at least 12 hours in advance. Additionally, during Wednesdays and Sundays, Port Volturno will have ample landing space designated for the Horizon’s shuttles, should additional passage be acquired. Port Volturno has a small hotel, and a limited number of Zeng-Hu dorm spaces are available by booking also. Regular trains run between Port Volturno and the rest of Triesto, which has a much wider selection of destinations. It is expected that all employees, while identifiable as a worker for the SCC, act and behave as models employees of the chainlink. All crew are advised to observe and follow local laws. Central Command Internal Affairs reminds all crew that any individual arrested by local Law Enforcement are not entitled to assistance by Central Command. A list of applicable local laws and regulations can be found via the employee portal. (wiki link soon) Horizon Operations All employees are advised to familiarise themselves with regional operational considerations for the Republic of Assunzione, available via the employee portal. Of note is that while landing in the uninhabituated parts of Assunzione is not forbidden, mining and salvage operations are not permitted by the Republic of Assunzione. However, the surface outside of the domes is largely scoured completely and unlikely to be productive to mining operations regardless. Port Volturno Port Volturno is located on the south eastern border of the Triesto city dome. Originally a base for the AEC in a joint venture between the Republic and Zeng-Hu, it was turned over entirely to Zeng-Hu when the AEC constructed new ports in the dome twenty years ago. A small commercial area and residentials districts have grown around the port, however it remains a low-capacity tertiary port for the dome. Employees may find artifacts of Volturno’s AEC history in parks and memorials. Despite recent controversy, the AEC remains popular and regarded as heroes by much of the local population. It is highly recommended that any opinions to the contrary remain private with the locals. Volturno is also home to a small Luceian Chapel, originally used to bless the AEC explorers who used the area as a base of operations. As always, the chainlink expects employees to be respectful towards the faiths kept by others.
  14. Hello! The custom item team discussed this, and it is accepted!

  18. Partly yes, however in retrospect this is a topic for a whole new thread since it does not touch on the disruptor vs ballistic feedback in this thread
  19. We had a round yesterday, and I have a large concern that there is no "low to mid" level option for security to deal with IPCs currently. The rubber shot is effective against those pesky antags who need to be safely taken down but are not presenting an immediate leathal threat, but there is no option of the same tier which is effective against IPCs. The baton still has a good charge drain effect but with the boosted charge (I believe tripled from pre IPC rework) combined with the risk of getting close, it's not a great option in these circumstances. I'd love to see some sort of "drainer" rounds which woul be effective in disabling unarmoured IPCs without either causing permenant damage or requiring excessive machinist work to fix - the best way to do this been lowering charge or forcing IPCs to enter their self preservation protocols temporarily.
  20. Can't park there mate
  21. Hello! This has been accepted - sorry about the delay. Welcome to the wiki team!
