[Accepted] Felkvir's discord server unban appeal
Felkvir replied to Felkvir's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Oh right. This is what I use currently. -
BYOND Key: FelkvirTotal Ban Length: Permanent, from what I can tell. Banning staff member's Key: No idea. It never said. Reason of Ban: Its on discord so I don't believe it shows. Only reason I could guess is I posted something controversial, but its been like 2 years so I don't really remember. Reason for Appeal: Its been a pretty long time without me complaining or being present there at all, I don't really know why I was removed. I just realize I could need it now if I want more avenues of communicating with ppl outside of OOC or forums and stuff. I'm not planning on breaking rules or anything, so uh yeah.
-
They don't like changing how they normally operate because there isn't any need for it. Why dismantle the system that works?
-
Not exactly what I was trying to say here. And that game 'design' choice is pretty awful. You know what other people do to improve antag-non antag interaction? They add and improve! new mechanics, items, new channels of communication. Ingroups that help new players if they are unfamiliar, events... Even apophis did this shit, and he was a complete dumbass. I'm making a point, and obviously its working. I'm "extreme", because I don't want you to devolve a part of the game into shit. I've seen this kind of language and tactics used over and over before. You can do a number of things to deal with security. You can disable cameras and other technology, you can empty their vault, you can subvert their members, distract them with devices or accomplices etc, disable power and trap them, stun them, gas them, turn the AI/synths against them, cause riots and uprisings etc maybe even blow them up depending on how you escalate things and what your objective is... If you have reached a point on your server where you cannot do any of these things... You cannot allow the antag to do anything or use anything, and you cannot even think of anything... You've really fucked up. If you're standing around as an antag like a retard and sec is on your trail, you've fucked up. I don't need to claim it is an issue with the antagonist only, it could be any number of issues you're not looking at. Read the above. This sort of reasoning makes zero sense to me. The point of balancing isn't to increase power of each fighter to match like its some kind of generic Grug fighting game, its to make both parties equipped to outsmart and outmanouver etc the other if they know what to do and get an advantage. If command is competent and security isn't understaffed and all that, but you are completely alone as an antag and you can't use your brain or anything for that matter then of course you are fucked. Again your language and tactics, I have already witnessed it before. I don't see the point of it. It is removal in the sense that you're taking away the structure of the system, and "dispersing" it as you say. If it is not removal then it is deconstructing at the least. But removal is a more accurate word. I still don't see how the positives outweigh the negatives. I am telling you here in this thread, because I care. This is a dumb idea.
-
This seems like a rather strong generalization since I have seen repeatedly antags interact with other departments if they show themselves at all. If you ask me and what I have experienced, its that antags are way too careful or too restricted and don't use any avenues of manipulation or attack as a result. And like I said some people can straight up just be too incompetent, that happens with any role in the game. If you're looking at antags not adding enough to a round with all the variables of Aurora considered its very strange to me that you immediately put your attention on this, wanting to *remove* something instead of trying to improve what we have.
-
This is kind of where your argument starts to make less sense. Yes, the security department is well equipped and organized. Why wouldn't they be? You seem to have this presumption that security itself must be at fault. But you admit it yourself; the more time you spend fucking around (and I've seen a lot of people here do that) the more your chances are of being caught. Antag should not be a position where someone holds your hand. They are there to create story and action, and the rest of the station should not be forced to change to accomodate to them for them to accomplish that.
-
I don't get this at all. I think most of what I've thought of has already been mentioned so I'll just go off on an automatic rant. What about centralized security bothers you? The way they function right now makes perfect sense to me. There is a clear hierarchy, this order seems like something that would arise naturally in corporate world especially in this setting. The structure allows for full command of the security forces (and easy transfer if need be), coordination is easy and all of the info/areas etc is gathered/official. It just feels right, you know? Its easy, and highly functional. I have seen people complain a lot more on Aurora than any other server about sec apparently ruining for antags. Not trying to offend anyone but I don't think devolving security is the answer if some people playing antags are having difficulties. Security is always being bashed on, and IMO this thread seems kinda like that just disguised under a 'suggestion'. Have an issue with some people who play sec, sure (I've met plenty of retards, same with antags). But removing what security is doesn't seem like a good idea at all. Personal bad experiences shouldn't dictate changing an entire solidified aspect of the station. We could try, but it would probably turn to shit. We should focus on adding and improving positively, not removing.

ok Whenever you folks want to just drop insulting anyone that disagrees with you at every opportunity, do get back to me. It's difficult to have a real discussion when the people that oppose this feature all have the common quality of utilizing emotionally charged language displaying a quality of immaturity to deal with negatives of a system and try to work up to build up the positives of the system to outweigh the bad, in addition to the passive-aggressive comments to belittle and insult people who don't agree with you, and then the inaccurate blanket claims plus the false representation of how the community is seeing this work. This was a test phase. If you cannot come up with anything more creative than "it sucks, it undermines me playing here, remove it, it is bad" amped to a square of 4, do not be surprised if I dismiss your concerns if you communicate in such an unproductive and standoffish manner. SS13 should not be more important than your personal life. If you cannot make time for SS13 then yes, you should properly prioritize what matters to you. The fact some of you claim that you have social lives, jobs, etc, should basically mean that this sort of thing shouldn't matter to you if you're being sincere when you say you cannot make any time for SS13. That's just life, but I see no reason as to how you can blame everyone else because you can't sort your own personal issues out. If you cannot make time for the hobby, why are you trying to force it into your schedule? It is your fault if you cannot make time to play on the server, not anyone else's, not even is it the fault of mechanics. I really don't need to lecture people to have their priorities in order. It's a given that people should care about what matters. But going as far as what Jackboot or you posted over such a non-issue is still really confusing to me. The narrative you're trying to play here is pretty fucked up. First off how can you tell if someone's TEXT reply is 'emotionally' charged? It comes off as you thinking you understand the message written better than the ones who actually wrote it. Second off, at one end you say people are using 'blanket' claims yet right before that you're accusing everyone opposing your idea of having the same 'quality' in the discussion. You're just repeating what you've already made clear, that you're dismissing observers as non-players.. This isn't concerning what's correct or not, its concerning what you proclaim to be the right thing. Lots of people here disagree with your idea, does it bother you? I know for a fact you'll go so far as to say you'll lose any respect for a person if they don't subscribe to your worldview, so perhaps we shouldn't ask you to consider what others think and not sperg out in the process at the same time.
-
1138 do you know why this argument is making you seem so distant and dismissive? Observers/ghosts are a part of the game, they are 'playing' too just not in the same manner. People already wait hours for antags to do something because they are given so much time in the first place. Who in the everloving shit says you can't do a lot in this game in 3 hours? You want to get technical over something like that, even though it isn't a technical issue to begin with... The game doesn't 'center' around you, me or anyone. It should include every player on the server.
-
It seems okay. Kinda. A bit.
-
Ahem, I don't know about the other voters.. But I personally chose that option because I was thinking of the overall participation coming into play instead of the major significant/notable events. And the fact that synths were apparently initially to be given full benefits even though it was a 'minor' victory for them.
-
You have to actually recognize how absurd it would be to a vast amount of people IC'ly if /synthetic/ beings were allowed into command positions. A synthetic risking its life is very different to an organic risking its life. Synthetics are even expected to be exposed to more danger, and by their nature operate on a level different to organics. In my opinion, they should also be covered under regulations but not in the same way as organics.. Also, was this rigged? Strange question but eh.. I feel like more people were for both sides, people were indifferent or felt it was okay wether they got some rights or not. And I saw plenty of people who supported the Sol officers and representatives inbetween.
-
I like both ideas. And no of course it isn't because I main humans, you filthy xeno-lovers REEEEEEEE At least stop making both unathi and tajara so damn fast, there's a little bit faster which is okay and then there is full speedy-gonzalez the ork gibbing people levels of autism.

[Accepted]Chada1's Skrell Application

It saddens me that I actually haven't interacted much with you in-game at all, looking at all the replies here you seem to be a great roleplayer. Part of the character story reminds me heavily of a particular game, but its good... So. +1 -
[DatBerry] Change the HoS hat back or give it some new variations

Because not only did the old one look better but the current one is just a london police hat (http://www.telesurtv.net/__export/1431391172498/sites/telesur/img/news/2015/05/11/london_protest.jpg_1718483346.jpg) .. I'm not familiar with how it goes most of the time, I haven't been on enough to say ... But you do make a point, and it gives a good perspective. I think it is pretty good that you bring it up, I didn't think too much about that before I read this. I just want to say though ... I do not want to get punished if I happen to go really hard on antags at some point or if I go hard AS an antag .. I personally think there are moments when the players on either side should not hesitate with something. inb4, people complain so much about antags going too far that they become slumber parties

Felkvir's Head Whitelist Application
Felkvir replied to Felkvir's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I don't know too much about security in SS13 or real life, but it doesn't seem like a security consultant position, interim or not, is an entry-level job. I was under the impression that security consultants had to be experts with security procedure as well as situations that commonly affect secure locations, but I may be misunderstanding your intention or the position. I had a skewed idea of what that was before, tbf. Forgot to edit that. -

Felkvir's Head Whitelist Application
Felkvir replied to Felkvir's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Thanks, also yeah, I forgot to mention I wrote it a bit late so I botched a few tiny things up there. 28 just kind of lined up with the records I wrote for him I believe, but it would make more sense if it was a position like Warden instead .. It's okay if I change the mention I assume? Since it won't affect the story in itself too much IMO EDIT: I changed it. Hopefully not too much of a bother like you said. -
BYOND key: Felkvir Character names:Heinrich Eberstark, Garry Miles How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Not counting the irregular pauses from the server, around 7 months at least? Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've only went through the whitelist process on one other server .. And I always thought being a head on Aurora would be pretty interesting. Plus all the times I've played head I've had good feedback, so I'm hoping for the same here. Why did you come to Aurora?: Good population + fairly good playerbase mostly. The staff is also very nice. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. I haven't memorized yet .. I will eventually though. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about choosing a role and character, and fitting that role in the environment you are participating or contributing in. For me, you should be able to invest yourself enough to whatever character you've chosen without causing disbelief from others. It should be more about managing a role that others can enjoy as well, rather than suspending the idea of common effort. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: In my head, they're there to act as a form of moderation if you will.. People can't ignore the heads, and if they can listen chances are they'll manage their roles better and in turn people will enjoy the round a lot more. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the very basic responsibility they hold is that they should be capable of showing that they hold some administrative expertise. They should be able to make reasonable decisions when necessary, ones that don't affect the enjoyment of the round for others or potentially ruin it. If I make mistakes, then of course I can acknowledge them.. I would avoid going into a round if I did not feel up for it. Better to act your role out when you've got the energy for it if you ask me. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Heinrich Eberstark Character age: 48 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Heinrich was born on Earth, in the Sol Alliance. He lived with a high class family.. A mother, father, and a brother. As a young lad he was taught mainly by his abusive father, Albrecht, on how to act and conduct himself. His mother died from illness at an early age. As he grew up he studied law and socioeconomics and by the time he was a young adult he had moved from the family, due to several conflicts and brutal beatings. He headed for Mars' orbital station, Nova Concordia. It is here he first attained some reputation, working first as an Interim security officer. Having grown tired of this period, he shifted his focus to further education. At the still fresh age of 23 he had received a good number of commendations, which would help him later in his career. Most of his jobs after this point consisted of lower-middle grade security jobs, but it was at the age of 28 he had received his first real solid job in a contract as a Warden on NSS Cephus where he played a part in administration of secure containment. In his thirties he would work mostly in Nanotrasen's merchant navy, participating in everything from security detailing in long voyages to trade regulation and registration for vessels. He specialized further, seeking commanding positions in the operating force of the navy. He achieved his wish, and after being commissioned to commandeer a vessel of his own, worked fervently in anti-piracy operations for the next 8 years. At 38, he had dissapeared from track records after an incident with an unmarked ship on the frontier had caused him to lose regular contact with the company. After 3 more years, he re-appeared and made his presence known again. He re-established communication with old contacts, and by the age of 43 had moved back to an equivalent of his old rank. Eventually founding his own security agency, Heinrich as of today works closely with Nanotrasen still. Though the relationship has been strained before, he is considered a useful member of Nanotrasens reserve in Tau Ceti nonetheless. What do you like about this character?: He is very well defined as a person, and doesn't compromise his own views even if he can be dishonest. He is pro-human to the core, holding some contempt towards the more uncivilized species. He has a commanding presence, and rarely tolerates anything below the effective standard. He values his own life greatly, but also knows the ramifications of losing valuable assets such as crew all too well. He is also good at speeches, though he may not hold them often (given the tendency of staff being busy.. >:L) What do you dislike about this character?: He is a bit of a sociopath, and can put others in an unfavourable position at times. He is also dishonest, but not in the way that it would affect his career.. But likely enough to raise a couple of eyebrows. If there is a thing he lacks, then it is some permament friends or history on a station since I haven't invested in a community like this before. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Experience, perseverance and uncomprimising will. He is a diplomat, commander, or even advisor when needed. He can participate in fights, but he doesn't risk his life unecessarily. In fact, he is a pretty good coward when he needs to be. Been called an 'aggressive coward' before actually, so yeah. ... Did I mention he makes great speeches? Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Most of the time, anything from interesting to very fun IMO. I guess it depends on what is happening since I can be a bit bad at just making stuff happen myself at times. But from all the servers I've played on, barring Hippie Station, people have enjoyed my RP. Extra notes: Obviously I'm planning mainly HoS/Captain/HoP mostly .. I'm not completely inexperienced with other departments though. These are just what I've played the most. ALSO ... I am very well aware of the other person playing with 'Eberstark'. We have agreed that our lore lines up, and I most likely will not actively play in the same time as them. This will be my /main/ head character for whenever I am up for a round, if I get accepted that is.
