So she genetically modified herself like every geneticist and their dog does. I've never seen her take a nap on a desk in front of the brig, I was talking about my own experiences, not anybody else's, as I said. I don't think a female tajara rolling down a jumpsuit is any less professional than any male doing it, given, again, they have no breasts as far as I'm aware, and no visible nipples. So if anything, it's even less revealing than a human male. I'm just saying that I've never seen Safiya act in a way outside of what I would expect from any other player on this server, except that she seems to consistently be roleplaying in the times I've seen her, which is more than can be said for a lot of people. So you say "Pink, Naked, Telekinetic, Cat" to try and make some grand point but lets break it down. Naked? No. I've never seen her naked during a shift and I don't think anyone else claims to either. Telekinetic? Yeah her and every geneticist since genetics was implemented 100 years ago on goon. So it comes down to pink cat. Hardly the most snowflakey thing we've got going on this server. Even taken together that's probably not the most snowflakey character on the server at any given moment. So if we're all willing to sit down and change how genetics, in general, is treated, I don't think this complaint holds much water. Maybe I just sympathize too much. I've been a community pariah (not here) before and it's not a nice feeling to get put under the microscope to a degree well past others. The major issue that I've seen at all here would have to be that when broken down, sure, it's just a series of smaller isolated incidents that are quite common. But it's not just because of small things that a discussion was provoked. It's the product of all of those things coming together into one person. I've no intentions of here meaning to assault the_furry, but I do have issues with the character themselves. I'm not sure where the ideas of geneticist making themselves into big genetic freaks started, but I've never quite understood the RP reason. Sure, you can manipulate genes beneficially on your own, but I always wondered why geneticist would want to just start playing with their own genes. Specifically like this! It's gene manipulation on the lowest and strangest level. Rather than making it so that you genetically have pink fur, why wouldn't you just dye it pink? It seem arbitrary. Telekinesis? I'unno. I'd be scared to do something like that. Because it creates the moral issues of humanity and what makes a person into question. What I'm trying to get at, I guess, is that in five hundred years genetics isn't something that's going to be taken so casually as it is in this game. So it seems kind've...Unrealistic. I'll work out a point for the rest of the stuff later. Just wanted to throw this out. Edit: Oh yeah, there was one other thing I wanted to mention. Involving the discussion of a character by themselves, it's too easy to take that as a personal affront to yourself. I hope none of what I'm saying seems that way, as I've had the same thing happen to myself before. Oh boy, does it feel shitty, until you realize the criticisms that are made out of the discussion and work with it a bit. Know what I mean?

God, it's glory is blinding my eyes! Though I'll admit to trying to keep the maximum to characters that've existed in the world and had an effect. Really tried not to push the limit on coming all the way back from so and so.

So, I don't know how other people play their characters, but I usually have a trending need for "Connection". Lots of my characters know each other or might even be related. Little while back I made a family tree of all the people related to my characters and the connections to lore that they had, and... Damn. I've just gone back to look at it and it's nearly up to 90 entries (People). Is this normal? I might have problems with family ties, but good god is it fun. So I'm curious. How're the families of other people on the server? NOTE: I'd give the whole thing if I could figure out how to make like a 'View only' mode.

A-aha no. Sec already has the barricades, which extensively serve a similar purpose. Similar, but it's not quite exact. I'm guessing what you're going for is to set these things 'on' to doors, which is something a 'little' bit more different. Might not be unreasonable to have one or two for security so they can lock down a door itself rather than set up some tape or cram a barricade in. Something along those lines doesn't seem too bad, I don't think. Be fun to set up on doors to a crime scene.

45 minutes of play doesn't really give you the right to outright kill people because they degraded you for being a Tajaran. Plus, what Meowy said, this doesn't really help the whole issue of Tajaran looking to kill people or resort to using claws (made for hunting through evolutionary process btw) on people. Again, this was not over words, It was when he started throwing punches and then using an air tank to beat me that things got out of hand, I don't attack people over words so let's not make it out like I did. I really don't think the problem started when you had the fight and things started getting out of hand, so much as it is the outright aggression and trying to disembowel and eat a man's intestines. That's about the line there.
-
As a passive observer, I've seen plenty of aggressiveness from Tajaran players with their characters and how it is they respond to open racism. I've seen people get flashed, clawed, beaten down, and fights break out in the middle of security. With the loser being the only one usually dragged off (Generally the Tajaran, cause claws are sharp!) to the brig. A major issue unfortunately isn't just that of the Tajaran players themselves though. I look around and you see that the racism that is supposedly permeating within the lore isn't shared among the normal players and what-not. Small racist expressions are more often or not cracked down on by other human players because they either like said Tajaran in question or just because they themselves aren't playing a racist character. It's just extremely one-sided in how it's dealt with and serves to only further produce this idea of aggression because it's extremely easy to get away with. "Attacked someone outright?" "Don't worry, they were being racist, put'm in the brig for me for slander, yeah?" This is the bulk of what I see. While I'm not saying they're all extremely aggressive (Shout-out to Kanza, Oldschool Taj! Voyd ya big softie.), there's certainly a lack of any submissiveness going on and if anything it's racism, subtle or not, that gets completely dunked on. If I see anything as far as logs go, I'll try to see what I can pull and start keeping an eye out for it. More often than not what I see isn't directly the Tajaran attacking someone, but someone like a human arrested and or attacking someone for insulting their friend. Which is good, and not breaking RP, but really can help cultivate that anti-aggressiveness that's not being looked for for Tajarans. Dismiss the thread and you're inevitably providing a stereotype of noncooperation and the same aggressiveness that's being presented. It's not a joke when you look at the argument at full and really try to get an idea of what it is exactly that both sides are trying to say. Just because you're not getting proof of what it is you're looking for doesn't mean there's not an argument to be made. You gotta start looking at all the 'other' evidence that's been piling up and the entire server's views on what exactly is going down. I'm sorry to say, but just by ignoring what this thread is saying, absolutely nothing can get solved about it because the players are doing the exact same thing the characters are doing: Pulling the card and refusing to work. I hate to bring up the ideas of whitelist responsibility, because it's not something I believe, so I'm not going to. But there is a responsibility to at least acknowledge that this is the place where problems are being presented and where they need to be discussed, if only for the sake of the server's lore. Going to leave some space for whatever else I can think of, because it's just slipping my mind... Something primarily to do with the whole forgetting the "This is a game" bit and personifying yourself as your character, and in the process taking everything not as an insult to your character but as an insult to you. Don't think that because 2D furballs are getting dunked on it means that we're trying to dunk on you. It's primarily the inner universe of the game that is making up the majority of the issues in how the Tajarans are acting and how their players are responding. If someone wants to hash out their Fursona, there's really another server for that. I.E. if someone shit-talks Solaire to me, I shouldn't take that as a personal insult. But I do, because PRAISE THE SUN!

What happened to the fancy shoes? Let's get in some of them fancy shoes! Reminds me though, is there lipsticks in this code? Not sure if that was exclusive to the server I used to frequet.

It's the girl's lifeblood. Everything she has ever designed, worked on, or thought about is jotted down in that notebook and she's extremely protective of it. It might not mean much to anyone outside of Robotics, but it's essentially her bible. Halo has never worked on anything so revolutionary and ground-breaking that it'd be a plausible source for thieves and copyright though, so it's not exactly 'too' valuable. Mostly just Theories and Designs. Oh and you don't even need the 'not be able to remove paper' bit if it's extra work. I can work with bare minimal but if your able that'd be nice too. That good?

The suggested load out that you've made up seems like it's a ~biiitt~ too much for the case of coming onto the station immediately. It might be more ideal to add a few more items to the map itself by putting a few things in the...I actually don't remember what it's called. Crap. Well, besides the point, the EMT load out location. Taking away just a little bit from the suggested list, a small amount of chemicals (A few emergency pills, maybe a couple of syringes?). I know the idea is fast response time, but that's kind've difficult given if you need to get a roller bed anyways. So I do think reasonable starting stuff, with the ability to have additive stuff provided by other departments and jobs, should be included into the load out room rather than on immediate arrival. ADD-ON: Does this post make sense? It probably looks confusing to high hell.

Except the question is if it's feasible within lore permissions, and if it is, why wouldn't people go out of their way to shun this person? Especially if this is the society that it's been made out to be where irregular things are shunned. It's the equivalent to watching a person with blue skin walk by you, and that being commonplace. Unless you live near the blue man group, you'd face a similar problem. Wouldn't people with that natural fur color have it dyed as to not have to face society's judgement? It just feels like such a...Double edged argument. Know what I mean? Might be slightly out of place to ask, but please don't try to say things like this. It makes it seem like there's an overwhelming sense of futility in making suggestions like this and that continuing discussion on the subject is pointless on the grounds that what is said doesn't matter. It's discouraging to creative thinking and discussion, I feel. I realize what you're trying to say, being that it's up to Sue, but I feel the misunderstanding is very very real.

There's reasonable and there's unreasonable. Reasonable would be a few quirks here and there, and a generally color palette of different characters to make a game that's interesting and fun to RP in. Nobody is here to solely provide for furry players or specifically please them, but rather anyone that might choose to play a Tajaran. Unreasonable would be giving into all that pressure and giving them the fur-love they so desperately want and in the process destroy the integrity of the race. I don't encourage any change of the lore, especially in cases of people not following said lore in comparison to there being an issue in the lore itself. What I'm just trying to reach is that I think there can be a lore-following Tajaran who just so happens to be male and have long hair. "Can be" being the big thing there. There can't be a character who's so out of the blue (Sometimes literally) and act so against what is written and get away with it just fine. Basically, if the problem is the player base, I'd deal with the player base and those who go against the lore rather than limiting options that are viable within the means of the lore. I'd actually like to see a slightly different Tajaran from the usual who would get shunned by most of the station's Tajaran population. I do think they'd have an interesting character and some good roleplay.

From Frances summary on the matter, I think I can better understand the issue that's really at hand here. It does seem reasonable to have it so that people don't mess around too much with what all the race is by trying to silly it up quite a bit. It feels more like it's something that would be the responsibility of the player to consciously make when producing a character of the like, and to reasonably stick within the confines of the lore. I suppose my non-rigid views (Which are sprawled in pretty much every post I've made) is what's making this more difficult for me to get. I usually consider lore as something that is changing and flowing, and that people will be however people will be. There's only a few restrictions on how people would generally act, and I'd have to attribute most of these to their life and biology, rather than that of strict lore. Those are my views, hence why I believe something like a haircut is so insubstantial a change that if I was given the proposal (Given I work with some lore myself) I'd probably immediately allow it to happen. This is all what my side is. But, I do believe the option can at the very least be opened up to the players a bit and see what it is that they do with it. It's the player's conscious decision to act out their character, what they are going to do, and how they want them to be. This also means they are capable of understanding fully the extent of the lore they are working under and /should/ be able to work with it as well. I feel like a full denial of the option isn't right in the way of acting as a preventative. I see where they are coming from now, and understand the issues behind it thankfully, and from this am able to take the problem of it a slight bit more seriously. If someone's going to put on a frilly hairdo and be a goofball, fine, but I like to instead think of those that might want to even slightly use it to improve their roleplay. I don't have any circumstantial evidence to how this would go though, so much like Frances I'd hope anyone with a good example could post! Thanks though, Frances. You made it a lot easier for me to understand what the exact issue is. ADD-ON POINT: If they fuck up and make things into norms, I usually see it as fine to take that thing away. I prefer to let a testing period go on and not block out anything for the risk of what could or could not happen. Better to see actual results instead of hypothesis and what-not. All my opinion, dough.

And he moved off Adhomai in fear for his life and is an extremely private person. This isn't relevant to the hair issue. He moves away from the social norms of his species and generally does things that are shunned among the population. But it doesn't stop him from doing it. It has a lot to do with the hair issue, as what if someone simply doesn't care or any of the other numerous reasons one would have to change their hair up. It's all about the view of what Tajarans normally should do and what an individual wants to do. When those things conflict, you get men with women's hairstyles, Outcast from their own homes, etc. etc. ADDITION: That and the fact that exceptions to the rules have been made before, which causes the greatest fear in all admins, that everybody will want the same exceptions! Spoooky Scurrry! If someone wants to wear their hair a little different, I don't see how that'd be so devastating. The game's meant for having fun and all, and it doesn't really break lore at all. Why lock people out of adding a bit of spice to a group of pixels they're going to have to stare at for hours at a time?
-
The thing I'm seeing behind this though is the question of if it /can/ be considered strictly locked to that of lore. Biological constraints and the ideas of a racial society are something that can be locked down, but for every lore you have to work with generalizations. They're supposed to cover the masses of the society, instead of the whole. Individuals would usually end up doing their own thing. If it's a biological restriction, then that's fine, but if it's not... Might as well be saying a race can't wear blue jumpsuits because they don't like the color blue. I understand trying to get a better hold of the lore and keeping within the guidelines, but is this such a massive breaker for the lore that it has to be cracked down on? Disregarding species lore and opening up realistic options are being portrayed as one and the same here and that just doesn't seem to be the case.

Nope. Severity ranges from version to version of him, but it's just a general thing for all of them that they had been involved in some sort of crime and end up coming back from the obnoxious and shitty attitude they used to have. Aurora's variant was a petty criminal who just spent the occassional night in lock-up. Others...Well... Some stay criminals, to say the least. EDIT: Wait. Nevermind. I'm just an idiot. 180. Damn it.

BYOND Key: Nogo3 Character name: Halo O'Kyle Item name:Research Notebook Why is your character carrying said item to work? Halo's research into Mechatronics doesn't end when she gets off the station. She keeps a handy notebook with her at all times that lets her write down all of her findings and designs that make a good reference for whatever work she is currently doing. It also contains all of her drafts on new designs, so she doesn't really like to leave it around for someone to steal. Item function(s): Similar to that of a book which can be opened or read, or like an envelope in the way that pages and things can be stored in it freely (Preferably the latter). Otherwise, it's just a run of the mill notebook which has seen a lot of use and serves as an RP item that can be mentioned every once in awhile. Item description: A plain notebook with a blue binding that has "RESEARCH NOTES" sprawled on the cover, with an "H.K" dotting the bottom right. Post-it notes and loose papers stick out haphazardly, and it looks like it's been repaired with tape more than once. All sorts of information on Experimental Mechatronics are in here. Item appearance: A blue covered Notebook with bits of yellow post-it notes and papers sticking out of it. Meant to look just a little messy. Additional comments: I'm not worried at all about non-functionality of the item itself, but being usable as a folder would be a nice touch. It's mainly just for use as a thing for me to use /me's with and add a bit more flavor. http://www.mediafire.com/view/9uazgj2jn7uledo/halo_notebook.dmi# Here is the sprite for the custom item.

Jordan Bell, ...He's been around in basically every iteration of SS13 or space themed thing I've ever done. He's been a ton of things and no two versions of him are ever exactly the same in how they act or deal with things. He's been a Police Officer, a Pirate, A Mercenary, A Syndicate Agent, a Professional Boxer...Starship Captain, Wasteland Explorer, and countless other things. He's also held a ton of different names, due to some lore stuff. On top of that all, he's usually in some way shape or form the base for all characters I make. From being related to him, knowing him directly, or being related to someone he is acquainted to. ...Co-incidentally has a lot of design choices that couple up with Big Boss or Venom Snake in the MGS franchise. His appearance used to be wildly different from what it is now: (Gray hair, Eyepatch, Mechanical Left Arm) to (Mohawk, Full-body tattoos, Wildly dyed hair). But, as the character evolved naturally, things began to click together and his appearance has become eerily similar to Old Big Boss, so now he has also become a reference for how some of the versions act. ...Has a chronic fear of space carp, given his right arm was taken off by one during an EVA. He's still in physical therapy for it. ...Started as a criminal character as his lore mentions who was mostly obnoxious. In most variants, he ends up learning from someone properly how to act and comes to change his attitude entirely. He's done a complete 360 in attitude. ...Has horrible luck, which he has acknowledged. No matter what, he seems to always find his way into an accident. ...Was born in a place composed mostly of people of Asian decent. As a result, he is fluent in Chinese Mandarin and partially speaks other linguistically similar languages.

Well, there's a number of servers that have alternatives to removing infections in the body by the use of surgery. By using a scalpel and a cautery on the affected limb, it removes infection. The only issue with this is once organs get infected then you require the use of spaceacillin, but wouldn't that 'cut out' (Teehee) most of your problems?

Wouldn't a suitable replacement to speaking directly on the round to be to try an take it off to a third party client to discuss, such as roleplaying it out over Skype or some viable alternative? This was a practice we did on another server with a group that is essentially the DO's equivalent. That would allow for the round to not go disturbed and it would better fit in the the schedule of people who might not be around to play another round or are not frequently on. Usually definitive evidence of unaltered logs isn't really a thing that becomes a massive issue when doing those kinds of reports. If you're worried of edits or deletion on someone's part, there's plenty of options that don't allow those small changes so you can get raw-cut. Even BYOND messenger works for it. Not a major point into the issues of the DO's, but I thought this might be a relevant suggestion to conducting interviews.
