  1. I apologize if this post meanders. I will edit it once I've put down my thoughts and I'm going to try and make this as concise as possible. I have played as an AI and borg for a long time but the main name I use is Patriarch for my AI or Servitor for my borgs. In the following few paragraphs I want to try and touch upon a few issues I've had regarding the expectations of synthetic players and the way I have seen issues resolved in the past. Primarily, the issue I wanted to discuss is a disconnect or inconsistency with the expectations of lawed synthetic players as opposed to those of normal crew. Now, I do make mistakes and there are times when I have been disciplined for unconditionally wrong behavior, but this post and the issue I'm trying to touch on has less to do with circumstances of specific events and more to do with overall expectations, treatment, and policy. It might be best if I was able to get clarification on certain things first. I have re-read the rules before posting this to make sure I wasn't missing something but the following questions might help to correct any misconceptions I have. ----------- 1.What is the role of a lawed synthetic player? This is possibly the most important of my assumptions and if my understanding of this proves to be incorrect then there may be no issue at all and I may cease playing as a lawed synthetic. However, I assume that Lawed synthetic players are as much a part of the server and crew of the Aurora as their unlawed or oganic counterparts. The laws are in place because, OOC'ly and in terms of game mechanics, Lawed synthetics are very powerful and can affect everyone on the station. IC'ly the laws are in place for reasons ranging from the singularity event to crew and station security and company interests, politics, cultural perspective, ect. However, this does not mean that lawed synthetic players cannot explore character growth or take initiative and take actions they are not specifically ordered to do as long as it remains within their laws. In short, lawed synthetic players should have the same ingame opportunities as other players as long as they remain within their laws. However, contrary to my assumption, I have noticed that the ongoing theme with my interactions with staff is that I should not act in a way that is not expected. It came to a head yesterday when I was told "You should be focused on being a good boy and AI DOOR." Aside from the condescension of being told to be a "good boy", I take great offense at being told that I am basically a glorified door opener. OOC'ly this is not a way to treat players and IC'ly AIs, Artificial Intelligences, in this universe have the capacity to be as present and conscious as any other sentience. Even if you subscribe to the belief that AIs simply mimic intelligence and are not truly sentient, then I would still be within my rights to mimic organic intelligence, emotion, or desires as a lawed synthetic player. ------------- 2.What consitutes "law lawyering" and is there a definitive explanation of how the default laws are supposed to be interpreted? Currently the only rule I have seen from the rules in the client are as follows: Do not rules-lawyer your laws as an AI or any law-bound synthetic. If the laws look solid and lack glaring mistakes, then please go along with them. It's a form of validhunting/powergaming. On the wiki for AI there is this message: YOUR LAWS ARE NOT IN PREFERENCE. NO LAW OVERRIDES ANY OTHER LAW UNLESS SPECIFICALLY STATED. THIS INCLUDES ANY ION STORM AND UPLOADED LAWS. Afterwards it goes into law interpretation and examples of certain law conflicts and how you might deal with those situations. For example: "Sometimes the amount of laws in effect comes into play, such as someone ordering you to do something that would harm the station (Law 2 and Law 1), you can overrule, stating that Law 2: Serve, is overridden by both Laws 1 and 3: Safeguard AND Protect (the logic being that harming the station would go against protecting the crew)." This rule regarding law lawyering seems very vague and subjective to me. There are many times when I have to make a decision based on my laws. Usually this involves commands that would result in harm to the crew or station, but not always and there are a myriad of scenarios. I have to make these decisions based on my laws and my ability to interpret them. I am not new to playing lawed synthetics and I still run into situations where my decision is questioned or someone ahelps about me. In uncertain circumstances if I have to explain myself for the choices I made the only thing I can say in my defense is how I interpreted the laws. Most of the time, my experience has been that if my rationale matches that of the staff member I'm speaking to, everything is OK. If not, I'm usually told that I'm not using common sense. If I try explaining myself further I usually find it's like talking to a wall with the response always being that I have to follow my laws, use common sense, and not to law lawyer. It just seems to be a paradox that I have to use my interpretation of the laws to make decisions but my interpretation of the laws is never sufficient defense and in some cases is invalidated by the law lawyering rule. Whether or not you are using common sense is subjective and based on the staff member you're interacting with. To my mind there are a few solutions. You can find some consensus or definitive explanation or method for which the AI's laws should be interpreted but this solution has problems. First, I don't think a consensus could be reached. Secondly, if you bound lawed synthetic players with a strict unwavering interpretation of the laws it would take away the agency that I spoke about in the first question and most of the personality or differentiation of lawed synthetics are in the differences of law interpretation. Lastly this doesn't take into account non-default laws and is not adaptable to all situations. A second solution would be to judge the actions of the AI by it's consequences. If the staff member dealing with the situation thinks that common sense was not used, then the consequences of the actions should be taken into account when deciding if a verbal/written warning should be applied or if it should be a more serious punishment. Perhaps this is already in place. I don't have access to admin chat or know how the process is supposed to work behind the scenes, I can only state what my experience has been. A third solution might be a more IC focused resolution. Oftentimes with organic crew a disagreement is not grounds for an ahelp or staff intervention. I don't see why such a method would not work with the lawed synthetics. Obviously this only applies to non-antag synthetics that are not blantantly breaking the rules or not following their laws. If there is a disagreement Command should get involved, check the AI's laws, verify the facts of the situation and either have a high ranking official or the Captain countermand the AI's behavior or resolve the issue in some other way. There are some command staff that would not want to do this or feel that synthetics are not worth their time or do not deserve to be heard in such discussions and will just card them, but that is an IC choice and up to them and is not an OOC punishment on the synthetic player for the choices they make. ------------- I apologize again for the length of this post. It's been something that's been gnawing at me for a while now and I needed to get it out there so that at least my position on things is known. If there are other synthetic players who have had similar experiences or have ideas for possible alternative measures I would love to hear your stories and feedback. Thanks.
  2. BYOND Key: Evandorf Character Names: Roy Earle, Nia (IPC), Patriarch (AI), Servitor (Borg), Adam (IPC) Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've been playing on the server, off and on, for a while now. I like playing synthetics but recently I've been wanting to get into another race. Of the alien races, Unathi is probably the one I find most interesting. I actually made my Detective character, Roy Earle, so that I could play more aggressively than I think synthetics should be, and I think I can push that envelope further with a young-ish Unathi. They actually remind me of the Krogan to a small degree. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I plan to play my Unathi in a stoic manner. If a human only responded in grunts or chuffs most of the time it would be weird or at the very least it would be seen as idiosyncratic, but I think it's more believable for a Unathi. I also like the traditionalist/sexist aspect of the Unathi. I don't plan to break any sever rules but it will be fun to cause friction with Guwans, women, or anyone else that he thinks are trying to rise above their station. Character Name: Suvek Tokash Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Since this till be my first attempt at this race Suvek Tokash is sterotypically Unathi. He comes from a minor clan in the city of Skalamar that is composed primarily of traders. Even though they have regular contact with other species, his family, and most notably his Grandfather, are very traditionally minded. They keep many of the traditional cultural mannerisms, expectations, and hierarchies. Suvek especially is of like-mind with his Grandfather and has been heavily influenced by him. Suvek is the seventh of his Father's sons and holds no expectations of becoming entwined in the clan leadership's internal politics. Due to his family's external connections he was able to easily secure employment within NanoTrasen's Security Division and has served for a few years with quiet distinction. He is young (25) and, while he can be goaded into a fight or confrontation, he usually prefers to let his actions and strength speak for themselves rather than boast or throw insults at his enemies. His personal record is not flawless and he has not yet fully adapted to life within the Company. Corporate penalties for infractions are far to lenient for his tastes. He abides by the orders of his superiors mainly due to the fact that demotion or termination would be a tremendous dishonor. He does not, however, respect all the men he's served under. He definitely does not respect the women he's served under and has quickly transferred. What do you like about this character? I like that he is, as far as I know, pretty normal. Cookie-cutter, even. I know that the races have stereotypes based on their lore and it's easy to look down on that sort of thing, but then again I think you need those characters filling the station. Like a lot of characters I play I want Suvek to go to work, do his job, and go home. Icing on the cake might be a decent fight with some criminal he thinks is evenly matched. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Adequate. I'd say on a scale of 1 - 10 I'd rate myself at a 6.5, maybe an 8 on a good day. Notes: None
  3. I don't know much about Amomalia's research ability, but when I do interact with her she is always nice and obliging even when I am an antag. +1
  4. BYOND key: Evandorf Character names: MRLO-5512, ROBI, Patriarch (AI),Elijah Bailey, SOMA, Emmanuel Clarke How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 2.5 Years Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Heads of staff have additional RP opportunities and more agency to act upon station events in ways that do not break regulation. Additionally, I love paperwork. Why did you come to Aurora?: I had to take regular breaks from SS13 until I came to Aurora because the typical antagonist climate on other servers prevented me from either exploring my job or RP possibilities fully. While I don't believe there is a perfect system, I've found that the more rigid structure on Aurora has given me the best balance of slow and fast entertainment. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is and should be about: While SS13 is a great game and attempts to provide a complex environment in which to immerse yourself there are obvious deficiencies. Roleplaying is, in my opinion, a primary way to alleviate such deficiencies and heighten the immersion of the story you're trying to tell with your character. Whether you are interacting with others, emoting the small physical interactions that can't be seen, or just roleplaying alone in your lab, labeling boxes and sorting your paperwork, each action draws you deeper into the universe. To that end, roleplaying also has to be cooperative and generous. Even if the actions your character is taking are opposed to the actions of another player, you should strive to sustain their immersion and empower their ability to continue to add meaningful depth to the interaction. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Ideally, the Heads of Staff are the rudders of the ship. They each manage their individual sections and in turn each reports to the Captain. Conscientious Heads will ideally be aware of issues that begin in their departments, any potential unrest or negligent activity on the part of their assigned crew, or any other serious threat that falls within their purview. If an issue is serious enough to where it may threaten the station or affect other departments, the Heads of those sections and/or the Captain should be advised and brought into deliberation on future actions. Conversely, information should flow back down the chain of command. If the Captain is given information about a particular section of the ship, he should alert the applicable Head of Staff and work with them to resolve the issue. In all things, delegation should be key, whether it's the Captain working with the Heads of Staff, or the Heads working with their crew members, you cannot/should not solve all the station's issues alone. Delegate tasks, keep your areas running smoothly, remain calm and collected. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players are not approved for Head of Staff positions because they know their areas better than other people (although it is recommended). Whitelisted players have shown that have the necessary mindset to attempt to prevent RP breakdown and keep the station from falling into chaos. For example, it's better to open negotiations with mercs than to declare them Kill-On-Sight and have breached armories, destroyed cargo bays, and crew isolated by emergency shutters. It's better to encourage new and interesting aspects of research, a majority of which might occur in emotes with some minor admin help than allow the research wing to go silent and SSD or into cryo. As stated above, when dealing with any other player you want to be encouraging meaningful interaction. A whitelisted player has more agency as a head of staff to change how a situation is being handled. Entire sections can be changed based on the actions of the pertinent Head of Staff. More lenient Heads of Security seem to lead their departments towards more beneficial prisoner interaction (and sometimes death at the hands of prisoners but you play to lose, right?) Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well-articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: MRLO-5512 Character age: 2 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): What follows is an exerpt from NT Employment Records: PURCHASE DATE: 10/02/2458 SYNTHETIC DESIGNATION: MRLO-5512 UNIT DESCRIPTION: Multipurpose Operative model with behavioral modules added for data recording and litigation. The MRLO is a niche designation but regardless is widely marketed and is rapidly becoming a mainstay in modern police services and corporate security teams. ADDITIONAL MODULES: [REDACTED] End Exerpt Newly purchased, Marlow was purpose built for forensic investigation, data recording, and critical thinking in regards to interpersonal motivations. He is not a station bound synthetic and is therefore unlawed, although he was preprogrammed with a high impulse to remain loyal to the Company. His biography is relatively short having been built at the end of 2456. Once his primary systems were deemed compliant with quality standards he underwent thorough testing and acclimatization to organic life. Being built specifically for investigation he was supplemented with various records and files on a wide variety of crimes and criminals. Additional intellectual supplements include information on civil litigation, bureaucracy management, and a lesser impulse to avoid violence to organics. During the final months of his "education" and acclimatization, when he was allowed to remain online for long periods of time and interact with orientation counselors at will, small idiosyncrasies began to develop. As one of his handlers wrote in a regular report: MRLO-5512 continues to show a fascination with worms. I caught him sneaking in a jar of dirt recently after one of his regular supervised visits into the city. When questioned he stated that his pets, two "earthworms" needed fresh soil to be happy. When pressed, he relinquished another, larger, jar from the storage unit in his recharge alcove. This fascination doesn't appear to affect his other functions but I've not seen it in any of the other units. What do you like about this character?: I play a lot of robots. Personally, I don't enjoy being loud, boisterous or crazy. I enjoy being calm and doing my job. IPCs and the AI fits my preferences very well. When I play Marlow I very rarely get into fights or get injured. Unless I am working on a case, I can usually be found watching the monitor screen in my lab. That is of course unless I've had to take a trip through maintenance at some point in the round. If I find a mouse, Marlow will get very attached to it and bring it back to the lab. He keeps them in boxes, out of the way so as to not cause any trouble. If there is a chef available he will ask him for cheese. If not, donuts will have to suffice, but he ensures they're all well fed. He is polite, calm, and generally wants to see that life proceeds as normal for other crew members. While he is more like a cyborg than other IPCs, he is gradually building his own personality through his ever-expanding catalog of interpersonal interactions. What do you dislike about this character?: The personality I've given Marlow prevents him from acting out, shouting at someone, or generally being agitated in any way. I've also made the decision that he won't use contractions. His inability to take rash action can sometimes be seen as being slow (though he can be very fast when he is given clear orders and signs of a serious threat), add to that the fact that I sometimes catch myself typing contractions and go back to make changes and people will sometime walk off before I'm finished typing. It is sometimes an effort to keep my own actions in line with his during times of crisis. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think he would delegate very well. It's not his habit to do anything in an inefficient manner. He generally will move towards the camera monitors first in an emergency rather than immediately go to the site. He will often PDA message everyone involved in an investigation to either invite them for an interview or get pertinent information in the quickest amount of time. His penchant for calm and careful consideration would also be ideal for finding the best available outcome for a given situation. As an OOC aside, given that IPCs can't be rezzed without admin assistance all my IPC characters tend to be very cautious. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: If I were to give it a number I would say 7/10. If I were to say what number other people would give me I would say 5/10 simply because I get the feeling that a lot of people seem to find my playstyle boring. I could be wrong, or this could simply be that those who find it boring are just very vocal. Honestly, I think a lot like anyone else it all depends on my mood and what time it is that I'm playing. Some of my best roleplaying occurs on Thursday nights after I get home from my weekly Call of Cthulhu game and I'm improvisationally charged. I know that when I first started playing on the server I had a hard time getting out of the play to win mindset. Now that I've been here for a while I tend to see the round as a success when there is an enjoyable interaction going on between the players and not just when my character does what I intended for him to do. Extra notes: None.
  5. Actually just saw the HoS Online. Name is Tazhir Kra'xis.
  6. I'll list the ones I can remember. I don't know many of the BYOND handles though. CE - Oliver Roadman Visitor? - Dylan Wright ( I know he's a regular and he was around when the HoS confronted me). The HoS was a bright white Unathi. Started with a T, something like Tar'kil. And I believe Isabella Silva was one of the Officers on duty.
  7. BYOND Key: Evandorf Staff BYOND Key: AimlessAnalyst Reason for complaint: Dispute of Issued Warning Evidence/logs/etc: Warning given: Playing a relatively silent Wizard and causing hell for Security, minimal interaction with the crew. Unfortunately I do not have logs from the shift. BYOND closed on me in between the shift in question and the next shift when Aimless spoke to me. Additional remarks: This was my first time ever being able to play wizard and I've gotten in trouble in the past as antag for ganking and being too aggressive. The only offensive spell I took was subjugation. And the only artifacts I took was the orb of scrying and the armor. I began the round by teleporting in and not making an attempt to hide my presence. I was amicable enough at the beginning and spoke to several crew members including officers and the Head of Security. I was trying to go for a mysterious/stoic wizard. I don't like flamboyant/meme-y characters. My goal was to teleport around the station and make a very large show of examining and then taking valuable objects. I teleported into the CE's office and took his headset from his locker. Later when I acquired the Captain's headset I teleported back into the CE's office and politely handed his headset back to him and told him I no longer needed it. It didn't take long for security to realize I was taking things and they came after me. I tried subjugating the Head of Security after telling him to "Not interfere with my work" in front of many security personnel. I guess I thought subjugate was more like a thrall for a vampire but either I wasn't using it correctly or it works differently. After the initial search by security personnel an AI became active. It severely hampered my movements and so I began working to remove it. From here I admit conversations with other players took a backseat as I was being actively chased. Until the ERT came and one of them shot me with a mounted laser cannon. They arrested me and that was the end. Aimless seems to think that I was being a silent asshole the entire time but I never ganked anyone. I didn't kill anyone except for an unfortunate sec officer who happened to be too close to the AI upload with a mechanical heart when I tried to alleviate that problem with an EMP grenade. I even asked admin permission before activating an emitter in engineering storage to deviate resources away from chasing me. As the station was already at RED and an ERT was onsite Garn gave me approval. I feel I am being punished for not playing the round the way other people wanted it to be played. One of the troopers on the shuttle back to Central said something along the lines of. "LOOC: You were a bad wiz. You should have blown something up instead of teleporting around stealing stuff. It was boring." But I had an idea for how I wanted to act and I don't see why I can't RP in my own way. I would also like to say that nothing was said to me during the round when this was happening. I only received a message from aimless at the end of the round after it was all over.
  8. There are several professions that do not hang out near their requests consoles and even those that do would benefit from getting an automated page to their PDA when a message comes in. Something like "AUTOMATED MESSAGE: New Request Pending At Requests Console". This way you might be more successful getting a response when using the requests console and the receiving department can better manage and view pending requests. I'm not sure exactly how it would work in the code, but perhaps the automated message could be tied to PDA type. For example, someone makes a request of engineering and all PDAs of the engineering type/paintjob would receive the Automated message.
  9. You can cut the condescension. My understanding of what was required of whitelisted heads was wrong. Again, Tainavaa already addressed this. However, that doesn't make your actions any better ICly. I was just asking what if any other option was available. The incident report rules are very clear and you cannot create one as an antagonist. However, for future reference and for dealing with grey areas I'd like to know where the cutoff is. I cannot make an incident report as an antagonist or against an antagonist. In the situation we were in however, if I were not an antagonist my death would have been sanctioned by a non-antagonist working off of antag information. Based on the incident report rules I would assume this is also not suitable for an ic incident report. I was just asking for clarification. If this has stopped being relevant to this board then I can ask in the incedent report area and link to this thread but I thought I could simply get an answer here from the mods already familiar with the problem and be done with it.
  10. Basically, in my opinion and also pulling from the above quote from Tainavaa, what you did was highly unethical at best and illegal and/or illogical at worst. When I originally created this thread it was because I thought you had not followed white-list standards for a head of staff but Tainavaa has already addressed that and says that no server rules/OOC rules were broken and that this is an IC issue. The only question I have left is whether I had any recourse in this at all. Since it is an IC issue, I assume under normal circumstances I should create an IC incident report (although I am not certain regarding this and was one of my questions in my last post). But Incident report rules are clear and you can't create an IC incident report as an antag. So it looks like I'm shit out of luck because I happened to be an antag when this happened to me.
  11. Sorry, I'm new but I assume that if I were a normal crew, I would have another recourse. I believe the IC Incicent report forum is for that sort of thing and if there is a problem the DO talks to the crew in question during a round. Again I'm new, but that's what I gathered by looking through the forums. But the IC Incidents don't apply to antags. So in one instance, the RD might get a talking to by a DO, in another I don't see that there is recourse to be taken. Please let me know if this is wrong. I admit again that I might not know all the ins and outs of the system.
  12. Could you expand on this? Mostly what is meant by OOC Standards for roleplay. Do you mean the rules for Roleplaying that appear in the server rules? I may just be getting confused by the terminology. I don't have a problem that I died. Obviously Hawkins was an antagonist but I was just upset with the way command handled it. I guess I was wrong in my assumption of what is required of them. Would there still be nothing wrong with it if infact I was a normal crew member?
  13. Yes and they seem to have contrasting opinions. I also would like to hear back from Tainavaa regarding my previous question. That aside, I'll respond again by saying that you had no information on which to base your judgements other than what Hawkins had told you.
  14. I don't think I can say it more plainly and maybe a mod could step in here. We seem to be going round in circles. First, I previously posted the exact last seconds of when I died and it appears to me you were pretty complicit in my death. Second, by tests I mean tests to verify what I was. I didn't mean scientific experiments on my person at risk to my health in the name of progress. If you had simply stopped Ahren from consuming me and then proceeded to toss me into a singularity or some other experiment you are still operating from the assumption that I am an alien and deserving of punishment or experimentation.
  15. There were more options than killing me or releasing me. There was an option to simply have Ahren detain me and then proceed to take my statement, the statements of others and try any tests you wanted. I would have been much happier if you had simply allowed me to continue the round and add to RP in any number of ways. If you had told Ahren to stop, and he didn't and killed me anyway I would be A-Ok with that because then he's outed himself as a liar and untrustworthy. He's an antag and has the OK to kill as long as he gives adequate RP. My main issue was collaboration of the command structure with an unknown alien against one of their crew.
  16. Killerhurtz, the entire reason Hawkins was on my ass the whole round, or at least what he states, is that he was trying to protect the crew. That he consumed for survival but I did it for pleasure. He was working with station command and showed no signs of disobeying. I am fairly confident he would have stopped if you had made the effort.
  17. Tainavaa, I would agree with you except for the point that he was playing a head of staff. Maybe I have the wrong expectation but I had assumed that if you were whitelisted as a head you understood and adhered to your responsibility to the crew. Sybil was not an antagonist so my first though was that she would attempt to resolve the issue without any crew deaths.
  18. Hopefully I'm doing this right. You could have not given tacit agreement to Hawkins and attempted to gather proof or evidence before agreeing to work with him. Again, I agree with Jackboot, I would be MUCH more suspicious of this alien who makes himself known to me and tells me how his kind eat people than of the Detective he is accusing.
  19. Honestly, my main issue and the reason I was so angry in the first place was that I tried to RP the changeling out. I wasn't super aggressive, I focused on one target at a time and gave that person adequate RP to understand what was going on. Hawkins, to his credit also was giving a lot of RP and time to work around the situation within the lore. I was playing slow and careful with the assumption that the same would be given to me. That if charges or allegations were voiced that due process would be followed by a person in the position of authority. You say that there could have been two outcomes to him consuming me but I don't think so. How do you know after the consumption whether or not I was an alien? Husks all look the same. There is no way to know. On a slight tangent, Jackboot, I have to ask about an RP incident between Hawkins and myself earlier in the round. He emoted something along the lines of "Hawkins reaches out to the Detective and his hand begins to morph into the detective's body." I don't know the rules on this but it seems like he's RPing for me and through his emote mandating my reaction. This was in an effort to again out me as a ling. I suppose I could have responded with a "Detective pulls away from Hawkins, leaving Hawkins' arm ending in a facsimile of the detective's chest" to make it look like a trick, but I'd rather like to know your opinion on emoting something that affects someone else's response.
  20. -Hawkens was acting inline with station authority and command structure. If you had told him not to consume me he would have stopped. I am on mobile currently and can update this with log excerpts but I believe my exact words were "RD, he's going to kill me. I'm going to die." and the response I got was "It has been approved." -Again, I was not arresting the librarian in science. I was at first trying to calm her down and later, after you spoke to her, was trying to get her to come back to security for a statement/interview. -I am not certain, but in extreme cases I believe the RD can use chain of command structure to make decisions in the absence of other, higher order heads. I'm not certain if the CMO or RD is higher, but I expect some measure of authority in life and death situations.
  21. I recently had the thought that there could be Deus Ex style augmentations (thermal vision, enhanced strength for workers, built in tools, ect) that could be made available by high enough research levels and installed via Robotics.
  22. I agree completely with Killerhurtz. That was what I originally had in mind.
  23. I was just thinking today that it would be interesting if certain crew, when killed, would have the chance to become a restless spirit or poltergeist upon their death. This could also be another utilization of the chaplain to perform exorcisms.
  24. OK, a little more backstory. Before the events in my previous post I had visited the librarian once. I said and emoted things to her in an attempt to establish RP before killing her. I wasn't trying to be subtle because it's more fun and when there is just one person saying things like "This guy is an alien and he's trying to eat me!" then they should naturally be given a psych evaluation. I don't think showing my hand to one person, my intended target, is giving myself away. Especially if they don't have any actual physical or recorded evidence to back up their claims. So, long story short. I don't make my move on the librarian because more people come into the library and that's just no good. I play things off like I was just in there for a book and leave. Then I can only assume the librarian got in touch with someone else in sec because up until this point Hawkens didn't know who I was.He only knew that I had access to the sec radio. He quickly found me with two other officers, one being Calhoun, and we had a very long discussion. Hawkens kept saying I was an alien, I kept denying it, and round and round in circles because you cannot prove someone is a ling. This is about the time when I go back to the library due to overhearing Xenua's radio messages, and the story picks up in my previous post. So from the position of my cover story, I did not know she was afraid of me. As I said before, she simply bolted out of the library. I did not go after the librarian in an attempt to arrest her and I was not going to consume her immediately there either. The middle of the science corridor is too exposed. I was just trying to get her back to sec for an interview/statement. To that end I followed her into science and when she started screaming at me I kept my distance. If I were an actual security officer I would not have simply cuffed her and arrested her for trespassing then and there. I thought that if anyone came upon us, as you did very soon after, that they would likely feel concern for this person that was clearly scared to death. As such, I began asking questions such as "Who is after you?", "What's going on?", "Who were those other people?" and she would only shout at me to stay back and that there was a cult after her. In essence I was just "trying to calm her down" as far as my cover was concerned. However, the main issue I have still exists. Typing all this out in a post here is all well and good, but you could have found it all out during the round if you had simply listened to me instead of just grabbing a regulations book to start adding up a bunch of charges of which half were fabricated and none had any actual proof. And proof is what you need, especially for capital punishment. I don't know what kind of protocol is required to authorize a punishment of "death by weird alien who seems like a nice guy" but I'm fairly certain it wasn't followed.
  25. I did AHelp, it was answered by Garn who said it was an IC issue. Edited the initial post to reflect that. I wasn't overly insistent at all. Another officer was looking for the librarian, Xenua I think. I'm not certain if it was related to me or not, probably was as Hawkins was pushing people about it the whole round. Anyway I meetup with Xenua in the library because he's asking the AI to open the librarian's office door to look for her. I wait around with him there, and eventually an engineer comes to help because I think the AI was offline at the time or just afk. The engineer opens up a wall and three people pop out. One was a miner, a friend of the librarian, brandishing a pickaxe. The other was the QM and the third was the librarian herself. The librarian bolts out from the library while Xenua is talking to the miner with the pickaxe. I follow the librarian who runs into science through a door someone just went through. This is where you found us. She was shouting at me to stay back. I was keeping my distance. I made no move on her or did anything aggressive other than tell you I wanted to interview her about the cult issue. I resisted leaving without her at first, but I left when I saw you'd not let her go without a warrant/evidence. Later I sent you a PDA message asking to meet up with you regarding questions I had and you just replied that you were busy. That was pretty much our entire interaction that round other than when you came to security after Hawkins had me cuffed in processing. Then you did not even listen to a thing I said. You just stated that you knew I was a threat and an alien because Hawkins said so. Then Hawkins consumed me.
