  1. I remember this one, it was a Vampire round and the HoP was the vampire and everyone kept losing their memories. Somehow you were accused of theft, Sisko arrested you (after a wild taser shootout down the hallway), and we searched you and found absolutely no evidence. In Sisko's defense very few people even attempted to investigate his claims of the theft and the HOP (as far as I know) was non-responsive. I don't know how we "knew" she'd been stolen from in the first place, thus, we released the suspect and Sisko was chided by command. We also searched for the stolen money and found nothing. It was a bit of a cluster%^. Security was really lacking in the procedures department here. I should have logs of the round, I'll have to review them for more info.
  2. Honestly, I've seen a couple of events where things got very political. A lot of players are actually pretty active in Martian politics too, it's just under the radar and subtle. Source: Martian character My only thing is that we should probably have more armbands for the other various parties and organizations, I only know of a couple.
  3. Rename 'mouse' to 'rat'. Nobody likes rats while mice can be considered kinda cute.
  4. Yeah, making a Star Trek server was one of my ambitions but there is only so much I could do with limited coding skills. I even wrote up a cool little backstory about it
  5. Ckey/BYOND Username: Fox009 Position Being Applied For (coder, mapper, spriter): Spriter (I can do limited coding and mapping too) Past Experiences/Knowledge: I originally started with developing sprites for Hypatia and also helped with their wiki. Eventually, though, I started developing my own SS13 unique server and learned quite a bit from that about coding, mapping, and the inner workings of the game. Examples of Past Work: Imgur Link - http://imgur.com/a/UfDID#0 Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): Skype Additional Comments: Since the fall of Hypatia I pretty much stopped playing for a while but finally came back to SS13 to check out Aurora and I'm really enjoying it. The admins have been fair and chill, the rounds fun, and the roleplay is solid here. I'd really like to help with helping with sprites and adding more content. One simple place to start would be a rolled down version of the uniforms (which should be in there already) and can be easily created for those that don't have them. I specialize in weapon, armor, and clothing sprites. I do not have much experience with Git. Lastly, I can do small amounts of coding for things like new items, armor, and clothing to help get them implemented. My main focus for Hypatia was getting Marine uniforms, armor, and weapons going. If Aurora would like their military outfitted, just say the word. This can easily apply else-ware too. They empowered me with the ability to design, within some boundaries, their military content and I had a singular passion for doing that stuff. For a while, I was going from server to server trying to sell my gun sprites as an arms dealer. Maybe we make a deal, no?
  6. One thing you guys might want to consider is a system like the Apollo server has where you literally DO start at the lowest level of a department and must work your way up by playing as the basic rank for a while (ie. being a cadet or intern) before you move up to the normal ranks. It is restricted to each character you make and probably has some drawbacks (ie. you can't really multiclass a character anymore) but it might help with poorly trained security. That being said, I have seen quite a few Cadets and such actually working their way up on this server since I've played here (I started as a Cadet too). Right now it's basically assumed and written that people have undergone this but they really just haven't. I've seen some poor security as a result of this. Then again, this is a difficult issue and I feel this thread is more of a response to a particular round rather then "how we improve security". ... I also just thought of how to multiclass the Apollo system.
  7. I don't think security needs any more power or the ability to "make up charges" or whatever. That seems silly. What security DOES need is a more clear ruleset and less admin oversight. For example, if we make a legit arrest we shouldn't have to spend ten minutes justifying it to an admin every time, security SOP needs to be re-worked and properly documented, and, lastly, Detectives should be able to wear belts. On that note, these procedures: Announce intention to arrest and charges vocally. Request the suspect surrender peaceably. Need to be modified and become circumstantial. I've already seen MAJOR problems with this and it's not entirely realistic.
  8. I think this is a bad idea. Arresting people is already enough of a hassle and, like Serveris said, it'd make things worse on both sides.
  9. Honestly, porting clothing is EASY and shouldn't take more then 10-15 minutes. You just need to copy the sprites over, code in the clothing (not difficult), and then add them to a locker or vending machine (easy). You could also throw them in at the special items stage during character creation (which creates some problems)... The problem is, indeed, with the 'professionalism' of the station and having people in uniform. That being said, it'd be GREAT for Assistant's 'Visitor' class or if you wanted to implement more civilians. You'd need a way to implement it and not have everyone wearing civilian attire around work. You could have some exceptions, perhaps a relaxed Doctor who still wears his labcoat or a chill HOP but it'd be dependent on the Captain or the CMO if they can get away with it. Certain departments like Security and Engineering definitely shouldn't be wearing jeans and polo shirts. One problem with Polaris is that EVERYONE seems to wear them and it's kinda silly because you don't know who anyone is at a glance. Kinda hurts gameplay, IMO, and is annoying to have to inspect each person, find their ID, and see what they are for each person.
  10. This would be cool but a regular security belt by itself is a boon without having it need to be a detective-flair one. Having them included in the office should, after some trouble where hard-ass wardens or HoS go "PUT THAT BACK OR GET BRIGGED FUCKING DETECTIVE SCUM" (this happens) that no one bats an eye. I use it to hold the zippo, cuffs, flash, police tape, an extra clip of ammo, and a flashlight, which imo are all things the detective should carry at all times. But it's hard when you also need to carry the recorder, camera, a folder, evidence bags, and a pack of cigarettes. It'd be easiest to just plop in the security belt and then let security understand it's ok. Quite frankly, it SHOULD be ok now for a Detective to have a security belt as there is nothing that says they cannot have one; it's just like an Assistant having a toolbelt really. Quite frankly, people need to just loosen up on the issue. And if you want a specially sprited Detective belt, that should be easy to do, I'll volunteer.
  11. So, this is something that has been a problem for aspiring Detectives on almost all servers. Detectives just never have access to a belt and then getting a belt is seen as a bad thing because it's taking one away from a potential security officer. I believe that we could solve this issue via a number of cunning solutions. Why do Detectives need belts? Detectives have a LOT of gear which takes up quite a bit of space in their backpack or sachel. Yes, you can carry most of it in your backpack and, yes, they can carry around a briefcase or crime scene kit but you'll probably leave that behind somewhere. Quite frankly, it's a "quality of life" issue that just doesn't need to be a problem to begin with. How do we solve this? There are a number of excellent and easy to implement solutions just waiting for implementation! 1) We can place a belt in each of the Detective closets. This is achieved either by mapping or coding. You can just literally place one belt object on top of the closets and presto! Or you can add one line of code to the detective closet code file adding a belt that way. Simple! 2) We can have excess belts stored in a locker that are accessible. Detectives (and officers who have lost their belts) can acquire them from there. Either solution is relatively easy and shouldn't require much code or work to implement. So please, lets give our Detectives belts and make it slightly easier on them so they don't immediately go SSD sitting in a chair smoking their cigarettes.
