Ferguson Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 BYOND key:JFerguson Character names:Rennek Drakiv, Antony Kell, Jack Kingston, Carter Jenkins, Maggie Whitewall, OSx96 How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Around 2 Years now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:I've been playing on Aurora for awhile; I believe I've reached the point where I can competently perform most jobs on the station and I have a familiarity with the rules, staff and community members. I enjoy leadership roles and feel I thrive when given responsibility; I'd want to provide a more realistic approach to a lot of situations and try to play more empathetic characters who try and reason situations out while improving role play for antags and crew alike Why did you come to Aurora?: I was initially shown SS13 by a friend in a chat; I looked into it myself and I tried the first server I could find; It was TG and I had a really bad experience and got frustrated with how silly it was; my second server was aurora and I was delighted to meet all the characters, it felt like a living place with people who cared and it's been the only server other then CM I play for 2 years. Aurora's staff have always been fair to me and do a great job and players have always been fun to interact with and considerate to role play with Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: In my opinion roleplay is not just about playing a character - it's about building an environment and immersing yourself in the setting. I think roleplay should focus on emphasizing the experience not just for yourself but for everyone else, and a good roleplayer should make efforts to facilitate the aspirations of the people around him, because it's not just a story revolving around you. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:In OOC Heads of Staff should act as mentors; when dealing with new or inexperienced players, you should ensure that they're being treated well and help them learn the server, the station, and their job. The other main OOC role for Heads is to prevent the round from becoming a powergaming simulation. Heads have a great deal of authority and responsibility and must avoid abusing it, and must check other Heads as well to nudge them away from powergamey behavior; the game isn’t interesting if the antag doesn’t have an opportunity to do anything. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:In the same vein as the previous question, I think it's important to keep gameplay fair, byond that, you should try and keep a better face with the community: acting like an ass to everyone on discord or OOC when you've been given a privileged position doesn't reflect well on you or on the server. One of the things I've personally been doing is trying to expand the level of interaction and community out of game; with the Odin Murders I've had an opportunity to use my character to further a plot and develop interesting new avenues for roleplay that directly complement the game and lore and feel that a White listed character would have more impact and be able to contribute more to such an experience. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Jack Kingston Character age:35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Jack Kingston was born on Earth and was raised with a strong sense of community; growing up he spent a lot of time focusing on politics, and felt that he owed a debt to the world that brought him up. Kingston went through university to get his Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Psychology, going on to enlist in the Sol Alliance Navy as a Military Policeman, where he gained his security skillset. Over the course of his ten-year Navy career, Kingston often attempted to improve the procedures and practices at his Navy postings but was often shut down by superiors due to the rigid and unchanging nature of the military. He left the service after fulfilling his contract, and spent period of listlessness reevaluating his career. While considering whether to accept another 5 or 10 year contract with the Sol Alliance, Kingston came across a job posting for Nanotrasen. Seeing it as an opportunity to move to a more fluid work environment where he'd be able to make changes and rise up the ranks, he took the job, and has been working with Nanotrasen ever since. What do you like about this character?: I think Jack's main strong-suit is his ability to quickly respond to multiple situations and take steps to address them; his back story isn't the " ERT Commando " but years of mundane security experience. He deeply understands and relies upon regulations and procedure, and this helps him rapidly and appropriately take action. Being extremely patriotic but not overzealous is something I also enjoy because it brings out pride in a way that isn't offensive or insensitive. What do you dislike about this character?:What really bothers me about Jack is his reliance on corporate policy; the fact he's constantly trying to please people can sometimes get in the way of his performance and can hurt more then it helps. Often he spends a lot of time trying to talk situations down and if people rush into situations he can become extremely agitated. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think Kingston is fit for this role due to his experience and his reputation in security; currently he is finishing up the Odin-related dramatics and will soon be back to his more collected composure. Generally he's a reliable but intense character who can multi task and deescalate situations quickly; he's been loyal to nanotrasen for a long time and seeks to do good for the company, while climbing the ladder as far as he can. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:I believe I sit at a comfortable level; I'm not able to emote 40 words per second but I'm able to convey a solid level of humanity, self preservation and depth in characters. With the recent lore events I've been able to expand my ability and learn so much more and have fallen in love with roleplaying. I try to learn every day to make my roleplay and my character more believable. Extra notes:
SlavicHitler Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Having interacted with Kingston frequently in security I can attest to his competence and I've personally taken a lot of cues from him in terms of developing my own roleplay. Ferg himself has pushed me a lot recently to become more involved in the community and his character has probably saved Colin Kell's life 12 times now, so I think he'd be an asset to security and the community. Looking forward to seeing Kingston as HoS. +1
SleepyWolf Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 fucking shit. ferguson did SO much good shit during the murder arc, if you saw anything from it he definitely deserves this whitelist. he's actively working to show off a professional work ideal thing and Jack is TOTALLY Head material, even with the vodka. plus it makes sense in the scene for Kingston to get a promotion right now after he helped in that case. ferguson is also a great roleplayer and understands the importance of flaws in characters, which i always admire. a++
IronTeapot Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I've had a number of interactions with Ferguson's characters; Rennek, Kingston and OS have been apart of some fond moments for me on the server. His work on the serial killer case in my opinion is enough reason to get him the whitelist as said above. Overall he's a great roleplayer with well-developed characters, I'd be glad to see him in Command. +1
AmoryBlaine Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I really hated the Kell thing, and I still cringe whenever I think about it. I do, however, think they've changed a lot since last I'd seen them. If he wants to bring a new Head of Security to the table, it is wholy needed. But, I would prefer to not watch another Officer character go up the ranks so quickly. The more times I see this, the more obvious it is to me that Security is actually just about 15 active players with about 15 randoms thrown in on top. We need new names, we need more diversity in the characters that make up Security because character diversity gives us all a look a how different individuals react. But yeah, +1 as long as you make a new character for the role.
Aceofspades1228 Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I'm giving my +1 to this app, Ferguson has been the owner of the ISD server on discord for quite a bit now already and has been running it rather well, along with being an overall swell person OOC- If there's new players in security, I don't doubt for a minute that he'd be willing to help train and tutor them until they come into their own, something that is important for a head to do. Along with that, Ferguson has shown himself to have little trouble making and staying in character during my time interacting with him, and gives his character realistic limitations that help enhance and open up new roleplay opportunities, instead of negating them. They would be someone who keeps the powergaming in their own department to a minimum, while at the same time keeping things fair for the normal crew against antagonists. All of these things are important for command, and all of them they've already proven to be quite qualified to do in what limited roles they do have. tl;dr: Ferguson is a good roleplayer, good at keeping order in chaotic environments, and would enhance the crew working with and under him. +1
GentleBoyHell Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Let's talk about our boy Jack. +1 all the way. Holy shit can JFerg Roleplay, and this boy is serious about his job. He taught me everything I know about SEC and Aurora honestly. He knows his stuff, he doesn't break character, and he's a good boy. However, Kingston has been battling with alcohol and that should be addressed before he gets a command position.
ItsAnOmen2 Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Having been a former (and now dead) cadet of JFerg's, he's really good at introducing new people to the game. In his capacity of leading Task Force Despacito Despoina and the Odin murders event, he has proved himself capable of both leading IC and handling important canon events OOC. +1
Scheveningen Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I didn't know command whitelists were trialable.
MattAtlas Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I didn't know command whitelists were trialable. This changed recently. https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=125&p=101710#p101710
