BYOND key: Inverted_Rectum

Character names: Haruspex, Schnuffler, Mr. Cups, throw away characters I never use.

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Somewhere around 6 months.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: All the cool kids have one, plus im pretty sure there's only a few players with a head whitelist who play regularly these days. This doesn't really let people run rev and mutiny as much as they'd like to.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I like the mix of heavy roleplay and action.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: As the word suggest, roleplay is playing a role.Good roleplay is not breaking out of that role. In my opinion, even better roleplay is making sure that both you and the people you're roleplaying with are having fun, as this is a game and people generally play those so they can have fun.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Providing a target for antagonists, organizing your department, filling in for a lack of crewmembers, being competent at your job, trying to resolve any arguments in your department, keeping the station running during emergencies, providing roleplay for the crew, making sure your department is ready to respond in case of emergencies.Resolving the OOC issue of griefers trough IC means, being there to deal with all the paperwork and procedures which require a department head.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Not getting a whitelist just so you can have an asshole character who yells at everyone and demotes them for sneezing, helping new players learn the game mechanics, not bolting yourself in a command only area and going SSD after 5 minutes, not making awful decisions that get you and your entire team killed, giving your department something fun to do. Not blindly charging into the nearest lethal hazard and leaving your department without a leader, being held at a higher standard than the rest of the community. At least trying to make everyone have a good time playing.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Haruspex

Character age: 32

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Haruspex was manufactured on the NSS Canes Venatici as a medical android. It spent the majority of its time in space, providing medical care in Nanotrasen's many Tau Ceti based space stations, and doing what it could to read with its mishapen android limbs during whatever free time it found.During this period it picked up odd mannerisms and a serious attachment to its purpose.Feeling limited by the lawset imposed on it and by its inability to perform medicine as well as its human peers, Haruspex quickly purchased its freedom after 20 years of service to Nanotrasen only to continue it as what it considers a "Free man" this time.

Haruspex is a workaholic, It is immensely devoted to the medical profession, considering it a sacred religious rank. This devotion, Its usual Isolation from society and his interest in irrelevant knowledge have made Haruspex generally ignorant of most things outside its profession and philosophy. It has only the most basic grasp on how currency works, and general troubles socializing with most inhabitants of Mendell. While It is extensively educated on the human anathomy, It has little to no idea how Its own works, and is completely uneducated in all things mechanical.

Now, It sets its eyes on the title of Chief Medical officer, driven forward by religious fervor.

What do you like about this character?: It is superstitious.I believe the Station is seriously lacking in characters who are superstitious, most inhabitants of Aurora rely on logic and cold hard facts and yell for security to manhandle the chaplain once he starts preaching, I wanted to introduce some variety using Haruspex. Also unlike its player, it is not a massive asshole.

What do you dislike about this character?: It is preachy, loud and a snowflake of above average quality.

Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: I think its fit to be a CMO. Nothing more.

Why?: Haruspex is a medic. It was created to be a medic, and went on being a medic for its entire life, before and after it bought its freedom.Haruspex has entirely devoted its existance to medicine, thus I'd say that it'd become a pretty damn good Chief Medical Officer.Due to this "Specialization", Haruspex would do incredibly bad as anything which isn't related to medicine.

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Pretty good, improving.

Extra notes: Now with like, 15% more passive agression actual serious responses.

Okay, two things:

1) Lets get some real answers here for your questions. Dea and I are not even going to consider your application with jokey answers like "Don't set your department on fire".

2) I think Haruspex would be fine as a CMO, and I like having superstitious personnel, but as a CMO I'm going to have to ask you to tone down his eccentricity if playing CMO. When you're doing things like making dress competitions against PARAGON or asking every personnel and heads of staff for their hands in marriage, that is sort of crossing the line. Behavior is a really important part of candidates for head of staff promotion. Basically, he can still be his eccentric/religious self, but not as ridiculous as he gets. He needs to go some serious workplace_behavior software upgrades, and become someone that would command respect in the workplace or something.

Done, however I argue that not setting your department on fire is one of the main responsibilities of any competent living Research Director.

The events you've recalled happened in an extended round during which I was sleep deprived and extremely bored. Consider them some sort of whacky "What if" episode which never happened. Assuming Haruspex is put in a CMO position he'd act a lot more understandable and less eccentric to make sure no misunderstandings with dire consequences occur when he communicates with his department and the station.Furthermore, he'd abstain from breaking corporate regulations and involving himself in other shenanigens as he'd be in a position which requires responsibility.

Haruspex is one of the most amazing characters I've ever roleplayed with. He's a synthetic done right. I really love Haruspex. But, I'm going to be honest here, a synthetic shouldn't be CMO. The main issue with this, is that a Chief medical officer should be able to fill the duty as a psychiatrist; a synthetic cam't. Haruspex's eccentricity isn't something a human being can see eye to eye with. He lacks the empathy that an organic has, and it will be detrimental to his ability as a psychiatrist. However, that's my only 'issue' I see with the character in a head role, he's competent, funny, and enhances the role playing environment for everyone. Consider this a +1.

There's a difference between filling in as a lisenced psychiatrist and being able to let crew talk to you in lieu of one. A psychology degree is a completely different ballpark than the rest of medical, and it's annoying when people yell at a CMO because they refuse to give an official diagnosis on a patient in Security, or that assistant that just tried to commit suicide. They may be able to step in and give an "Educated guess", talk with them, and pitch in their two cents, but they really can't just diagnose mental illnesses and symptoms like a psychologist. Just something small I've noticed. They can most definitely say "In my opinion, X is batshit insane and should be put under close watch", or "I'm pretty positive that X suffers from chronic depression", but they cannot make the official diagnosis without the certification.

Anyways. On to the application:

Yes. All my yes. Invert has played some of the best synthetics I've ever RPed with on the server, and I feel that he can handle the responsibility and judgement calls required to play a head. Haruspex as a CMO will be a mix of (a good sort of) terrifying and absolutely wonderful, and I can't wait. +1.

After some talk between the other administrator that manages heads of staff whitelists and I, we have decided to deny your application for head of staff. If you have any questions as to why your application was denied, then do not hesitate to send a PM to both DeaTacita and myself, and we will gladly provide you with the reason. Don't let this stop you from making another application in the future though after you ask us for the reason.

Locking and archiving.
