Server Status

Recommended Posts

It often happens that server is down and there's no information about it at all, nowhere. Basically i am tired of this. I advise you to make some kind of alive status indicator on forum that will show exactly the state of the server, ON or OFF, like a tiny light or something. That will be awsome. Thanks for attention.

Except that, that is completely pointless. Your image confirms it. Click and can't connect? Server is kill. Clicked and connected? Server is alive. Simple. There's literally absolutely zero point in wasting dev time in making this light if you can just as easily open BYOND and try connecting. Before you say "What if I can't open BYOND?", then if you can't open BYOND, then you can't get on Aurora anyway. Simple.

Have to agree with Tish here. There are more important things to do than making a light on the forums when you can simply test it yourself. It only takes a few seconds if you have the link bookmarked.

And... why would we have what amounts to a box that we throw "SERVER IS KILL" into repeatedly? Just so everyone can say "SERVER IS KILL" and... nothing gets accomplished? I don't understand the utility of that.

Pointless is clicking connect when server is down. Pointless is wasting your time thinking about why server is down. Pointless is arguing about must have things. This is the only pointless things here.

You're literally causing 100% of the pointlessness you're complaining about. This isn't the Pentagon, we don't need a DEFCON light for "SERVER IS KILL?" on the forum when you can just find out by clicking the link. And honestly if your life is so fast paced that 5 seconds of waiting to see a downed link drains so much potential and happiness out of your day then I really think you should pump your brakes and think about your priorities.

You are only one who should pump your brakes in efforts to educate me.

All i did is advised to make a feature so players could know actual server status, should i even explain why?

I see this is not going anywhere good because all i get is misunderstanding and negative.

I apologize if I seemed snippy, but you came off really condescending.

My stance remains that the button wouldn't really accomplish anything you couldn't do by just clicking the server link, then trying again a minute later.

I advise you gentlemen check your attitude, there's little need to get condescending and childish about this.

On target: two challenges are present with this. First, how to actually check automagically whether the server is up or not. I know it can be done, I just have not invested time into looking around. Second point is where to shove the indicator. Well, actually, no, I have an answer in the works for it. But it won't be the forums, purely due to the fact that it's more difficult to modify the lump of already present PHP as opposed to creating a new piece. We'll see, this is an area of coding I don't know very well.

This is something I have been working on.

I have also been working on getting the server it restart itself when it crashes.

There are few ways to detect if the server is running without spending money on a dedicated program. Byond doesn't advertise itself to windows as running or crashed.
