GlitterGuts Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Simply the addition of "janitor" level access to departments for EMTs so that they can retrieve people without having to dismantle a door or window to get to them, should no other avenue be available. It would only be bare bones acess like to the engi lobby, brig area/office, cargo lobby, etc. My reasoning being, if a janitor can have that kind of access to clean things, the EMT should have it as well to save lives. We all know borgs, AI, and HoPs wont always be there to help (especially when its urgent).
Carver Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 As things are I could argue for giving janitor level access to many roles; Atmospherics Technician, Station Engineer, Cargo Technician, Security Officer, even the Chef and Bartender for catering. But I'd rather go the route of arguing against janitor access, as the more readily it becomes available, the more trivialized IDs as a whole become. I'm against even the janitor themself having this access as is. As it were, going one way 'standard access' vs. the other 'ease of access' is something that has to be committed to if one wants to maintain some amount of logical sense (Because why would X have this access and not Y?).

I agree with you on Sec and Engis (even though they can basically let themselves in). My reasoning was that EMTs could have this access buff (along with sec) to get to where they need to go because its urgent and at the stake of another crew members life. Im sure we all know that feeling when we press the ringer and it take someone 30-60 seconds to answer it. As for CTs, chef and tender, its not on the same level of urgency, and they should be fine just asking someone or waiting.
Resilynn Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Give them the ability to get into the main area of security and the ability to get to the cargo airlocks. Bonus points if they can get halfway to xenobiology (basic science access). Because there are emergency calls there all the time and people DO die regularly on extended while a QM goes 'lmao if the die the clone lol' and slowly shambles up to the door to let the EMT out. Yesterday a QM took 5 minutes. Because he was sorting the warehouse first.

Yesterday a QM took 5 minutes. Because he was sorting the warehouse first. well said. I play mostly on low pop because 60+ people is really too hectic for me and is supper laggy imo. I think it would be reasonable to allow the EMT to have ease of access to high-risk areas, or somewhere close. Just last round I had a call as EMT to the brig, but nobody answered the door while someone bled out. Had to wait for the super slow jani borg to come all the way from the bar to sec to open it. Also had a call to xenobiology but everyone was on the sublevel and took forever to let me in. I could have cut my way through the windows if I really wanted too but it seemed like something I shouldnt have to do. Moral of the Story, most people are unreliable or not where you need them to be for an urgent call, and asking HoP or Captain to change your ID (which there might even be one on shift on lowpop) is tedious and doesnt get done half the time because round start shenanigans get in the way Edited June 24, 2019 by GlitterGuts
