Species you are applying to play: Unathi (Aut'akh)

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Purple and White

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I want to play as an Aut'akh Unathi purely out of interest of being an augmented alien. Additionally, I find a mix between materialistic and spiritual beliefs appear to be rather fascinating here. The concept of Unathi Honor is unique yet a bit much when involved in antag/troublesome affairs.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

The difference between Human and Unathi is that Unathi have lizard-like traits, communication through body language and tongues, are carnivorous, quick in movement, and can be notoriously strong. Sensitive to temperatures. They have deep sense of honor and religion, depending on the society they live in. Like the Dread Compact, you would see morally questionable Unathi who may do dishonorable deeds for their own gain. Th'akh Unathi would be more spiritual and have deep distrust towards synthetics, but have a mixed view on prosthetic, so on. A Sk'akh Unathi would hold passionate hatred towards machines, be it prosthetic, or an IPC, however faithful to the Three of One. Aut'akh Unathi see that all things are a continuation, in form of cloning, cybernetics, the soul remains unchanged or freed of duties.  Demons run in all things regardless and frowns upon the Sinta'Unathi joining the Sk'akh and instead looks to the Oss. Being an Aut'akh Unathi would mean to be passive, friendly, and very well skilled in their field of interest.

Character Name: Optikam Ulmari

Please provide a short backstory for this character:

Spoiler

I, Azimba Ulmari'iza, lost a trial of ordeal and was removed of my arm out of dishonor and crime of larceny. For this act, I looked to the Lord and spoke, "You will not sssshame me for that I wasss right, I upheld my promissse to keep my brothersss and sssisstersss fed and under a roof." Gripping his shoulder, where his arm used to be. "If you cannot allow me to do thisss for my clan, then you are worthlessss, a demon who gluttonsss for their own appetite!"

Heresy, heathen, defiler, demon. The clan screamed at Ulmari'iza. The Lord hissed, "How dare you ssspeak that way to me, weakling! You ssshould be lassshed for those wordsss! I would have your head!"

Ulmari'iza laughs weakly, "Heh, if it isss my head you want, demon, then at leassst let me ssseek honor in my own way! I demand I will be sssent to the desssert and claim what isss left of my dignity." *spits towards the Lord and thumps his tail.*

The clan boos and sneers at Ulmari'iza. The Lord raises his hand, silencing the crowd and leans to the Shaman next to him, who whispers to his ear. He then boasts, "If exile isss what you want, Guwan? Then ssso be it! Warriorsss, cassst him out, he will not get hisss wordsss with hisss family!"

The clan cheers while the brothers and sisters of Ulmari'iza stood there quiet and looking down in disappointment and shame for their brother.

------

Five months later.

------

Ulmari'iza Guwan looks to his leather flask, vying for the last drop but to no avail, he throws it to the ground out of frustration, knocking his spear down from the rocks. Swears, "Filthy demon, never sssaw fit to let the hunter keep their ssshare." A noise chitters through the night, to which Ulmari'iza hisses and looks to the dark. "I can sssmell you ... whoever you are ... come out at thissss once!" Nothing but silence goes still to the unforgiving darkness. Wait, there is eyes, stalking him. Ulmari'iza grips for his spear out of haste and fright. Barks, "I can see you ... I will ssslay you if you do not come out!" The creature lashes out from the dark, to which Ulmari'iza jumps back and attempts to jab at the shadowy creature only to miss. I wish I had my other arm! I would kill this creature this instant! I will not be kill tonight!

The creature slithers around and coils around Ulmari'iza's leg. Ulmari'iza yelps and turns the spear to stab the creature who grips his leg, blood spills to taint the earth and flesh. The creature hisses loudly out of pain and forms a tighter grip on the leg and moves up Ulmari's chest, constricting his movement. Ulmari'iza groans and slams his spear to the rock near him, breaking the shaft, leaving only a broken head and what remains of the shaft. Ulmari'iza stabs to the creature in a blind flurry as if it were out of desperation. The creature slowly hisses and weakens their grip on Ulmari, only to slip off him to die. Ulmari'iza pants and collapses onto a rock out of fatigue. So lightheaded ... I cannot ... see ... A sound of footsteps runs towards him. Oh no, not aga- hugggnnn ... Ulmari'iza groans and falls over, into unconsciousness.

------

Sixteen hours later.

------

Voices. People. Wha ... what is going on! Ulmari'iza jolts awake and grips the nearest thing, the stretcher, hissing out of fear. "Who is ther- aaaagghhh!" This pain! My chest hurts so much!!! Ulmari'iza folds his left arm around his chest out of comfort. "Hey, hey, lay down!" An unknown voice screams out. "Relax, you are in good hands, friend." Friend? I don't know who you are! Ulmari'iza hisses, "Who are you and why did you ... ssssave me ...? If the clan finds out, they would laugh of this shame and take my head out of dishonor!" Ulmari'iza looks around and sees a pale, red eyed Unathi, dressed in a medical garb. They speak lightly, "Friend, we found you dessssperately vying for your life againsssst the terrible creature, it is a glorioussss thing you killed it! You did suffer horrible woundsss! Now, please lay down!" Ulmari'iza slumps down out of weakness, he hisses, "You did not anssswer my quessstion, who are you?" The pale Unathi looks to their left, which Ulmari does, to his surprise finds a couple other pale scaled Unathi, she speaks, "We are the Optikam, looking for people like you, friend, it isss a miracle we found you, lessst you would have died." Optikam?!? Aut'akh! HEATHENS!!! Ulmari'iza jolts, "Agh! Heathenss-ack." He grabs for his chest again out of pain. "Uggh ... why did you sssave me?" The pale doctor spoke, "Becaussse we believe you would help usss asss we helped you. Will you accept our generousssity?" Ulmari'iza slumps back down once more, "I will, but know I ... may ... uggghh ... I will stay for now ..." The pale doctor smiles, exposing their teeth out of joy, she looks to the couple and waves them off.

------
Ever since the encounter with the Optikam, Ulmari'iza saw to their beliefs as ideal given their collective help to one another and sworn his life to the Optikam clan. Out of good faith, he sought out the trade to become a doctor to help people like himself who was on the verge of death. He left with the Exile Fleet to New Gibson out of hope for a better future.

What do you like about this character?

What I like about Ulmari'iza is that he was inspired since that fatal fight to become a medical worker, shedding away his belief within the Sk'akh given the former clan's attitude and demonic taint. He believes there is honor in saving lives while protecting others when he can. However, he sees that if the act itself was for the good of themselves, then it is right.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

7 out of a 10, there is always room to improve.

Notes: If I need to clarify, let me know.

Great roleplayer. I've worked with Sterben countless times in medical. He taught me how the new medical system works and how to play doctor. During training, he kept it all in RP, and still managed to explain the mechanics well. He roleplays an IPC well, one of his most notible characters being his IPC Chief Medical Officer, who many players will agree is a pretty fun and well thought out character. Although I personally dislike the Aut'akh, I know Soultheif will be able to create a realistic and interesting character. I'm looking forward to seeing Optikam Ulmari on board!

Great player, always good to hang out with. I've always had good experiences with him both on station and off. I don't know much about Autakh but for Unathi, being exiled is a pretty big deal. The degree of larceny would probably be pretty huge to be exiled and have your arm cut off. I would consider having the theft angle be made more clear; it would require a pretty dire crime to be exiled unless he was already on thin ice with his clan, I feel.

However being exiled and found by the Autakh seems to be a pretty reasonable storyline for a Moghean. A traditionally raised Hegemony Unathi would probably require a lot of time and tolerance to come around to their way of life though, so this angle would be good to expand on.

I'm pretty confident you could play this story well on station.

I would say yes that Ulmari has stolen from the Lord several times for the sake of his own family, given 65% of his hunts are taken, leaving not much. The Lord was fed up with it and wanted him punished as we saw here

Ulmari was a follower of the Th’akh and had a hard time getting used to the Aut’akh’s beliefs. There were disputes but the Aut’akh in the group never pressed it and simply left him to his devices time. The moment of conversion is when he dwelled on his clan, Th’akh, and his current state, a spark in his mind was “Why should I care for them now when I have these good people taking care of me and I to them? No matter, I owe them a life debt for saving me out in the desert. I’ll listen to them for this once.” Since then, Ulmari gradually became a follower to the Aut’akh faith and took on their customs.

Soultheif is an amazing roleplayer with a great lore comprehension over each of his different and varied characters, resulting in an excellent consistency for them all in their diverse and incredible interactions. I am also intrigued by Ulmari's backstory and the contrast between his life then and now, and I do trust and fully believe Soultheif will do this character justice.

Guest Marlon Phoenix

This is a good application and I like your follow up answer, as well as the quick follow up in discord with some questions I had that I didn't want to hold up the application any longer over. All in all i think you have a great app and positive feedback so I'm happy to accept this.
