Nekonyan123 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Hi there, I was thinking we could add two new alternate titles to the Janitor job: Sanitation Technician A more professional Janitor that prefer using the JaniCart or other techier solutions to keep the station clean. They are hygene professionals that got many years of experience in keeping important locations sterile and germ-free. They are trained to handle bio-hazards and post-quarantine sanitations and exceeds at ensuring the crew is safe from dangerous hygienic threats. Their presence onboard NSS Aurora is justified by the fact that it is a research outpost, and then it might be required higher hygene standards for certain experiment or operational procedures. Appliances Technician A rare breed of Engineer and Janitor, they are professionals when it comes to fixing broken appliances, like vending machines, machinery, ovens, microwaves, fridges, and even more important equipment like airlocks or cameras. They usually ensure that all vending machines onboard the station are working fine and are well stocked, but it the need arises, they can help out engineering with the most mundane tasks like fixing a door or a camera. I think adding those might flesh out more the janitor jobs and give chance for more roleplay along the way. Let me know what you think, I could try to code this myself!

Doxxmedearly Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 I feel like Appliances Technician isn't necessary. They'll lack for things to do and step on engineering's toes (Since much of the time they don't have much to respond to, either). Things don't really break down that much and airlock doors/cameras feels like it should be strictly in engineering's domain. A cool idea, but it fills a niche we don't have much call for. Sanitation Technician, however, is pretty cool. It feels distinct from Janitor while adding the neat flavor an alt-title should have. I'd love to see that one added.

Well, the thing is that most of the time, broken vending machines get ignored all the time and they end up clogging the hallways and the workplaces with loads of supplies and broken glass shards. I tought that perhaps adding a breed of janitor that focus on doing that would perhaps drive more players into learning how to fix the vending machines, for the exact reason that the Tech Support title was added to the Librarian job. Perhaps it would have more sense for the Appliances Tech to be there if they could do the same thing as the Tech Support, get vending machines supplies for free. If other people do think that an appliances tech job is not needed, I will remove it from my PR, and if someone got other ideas on how to improve on this, I'd be happy to hear them and maybe I can still try to code that. Thank you for taking your time to check this post Doxxmedearly.
Carver Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Much as I tend to like alt titles, they should usually imply some form of mechanical difference. Sanitation Technician is just a fancier sounding Janitor and thus doesn't really offer anything. I wouldn't mind seeing it replace Janitor as a job name, but that's about it.
KingOfThePing Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Or maybe implement stuff to use and a proper office for them, too.....I very much like the sanitation technician suggestion
splark Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 If "same-job-fancier-name" is an issue, why keep both "Chef" and "Cook", or "Botanist" and "Gardener"? I definitely like the "Sanitation Technician" title, as it seems like a Nanotrasen Approved(TM) sort of job listing, though it seems to me that it should focus more on knowing the proper way to clean areas (space cleaner grenades are not the be-all, end-all) than the use of technology. As for Appliances Technician, while it makes sense ICly (Engineers would be too busy keeping Aurora from vanishing in a delamination event), rampant intelligence events don't really occur frequently enough in a given round to justify a job solely focused on that. If an AppTech could "customize" or "upgrade" vending machines, or if vending machines were to run out (or maybe even jam up?) more frequently, that might make them more feasible.
