Staff BYOND Key: AndurilFlame(known as Pegasus in the community)

Game ID: N/A - Pattern of behavior, not game-related.

Reason for complaint: Inactivity, lack of communication, unhealthy attitude in general.

Evidence/logs/etc: Attached

Additional remarks:This isn’t exactly a new development but rather an issue that has existed for a very long time, even before my and Schwann’s arrival to the lore team, and something repeatedly talked and complained about.

Working with Pegasus at the beginning felt good due to the creative freedom we had, but when it came to actually getting these projects done(which only started happening when we got Schwann on the team) it became apparent that it wasn’t as smooth as we imagined. Getting him to read something takes a very long time, so does getting him to write something. Our big projects for the Sol Alliance and the Coalition of Colonies were very hyped up and we ourselves had high expectations for it, but when it was released and we saw the parts that Pegasus contributed were very underwhelming, specifically the articles that were posted when we finished the projects:

The Sol Alliance article
and
The Coalition one.

Which really did not do justice for the scale of our supposed changes and thus rendered them largely irrelevant. Now I know this looks like I’m just accusing Pegasus of being a bad writer and a lore developer, but please take into consideration the rest of this complaint to better understand why these supposedly grand changes in the lore have flopped.

Schwann’s POV:

Quote

Since my arrival onto the human lore team in late October/early November (the semester was so hectic time tends to blur when I look back) I have experienced roughly the same “arc” with Pegasus as my compatriot, Borya, has. The creative freedom given to me was relieving, but I quickly realized there was a problem: nothing was getting done and nothing was being communicated to us. It took us weeks to get the “final touches” on the much-hyped Sol/Coalition politics rework, and the results were an utter disappointment - two articles that were mostly greeted with a resounding “Huh?” from the community. It was demoralizing and it took far too long to do. After this, Pegasus essentially went radio silent for two months. Drafts that were passed to him received no attention and ended up forgotten. He was, it seems, too busy to do anything related to lore. We had no communication from him at all, our lore Discord died off into inactivity, and I continued to work with Borya without our developer.

This state of radio silence persisted despite him stating that he had “two month gap” starting in late October where he would be able to really focus on lore, and in some ways became even worse. We could see that Pegasus was there and online, but we never got anything from him. We were working on our own and he was barely active. We thought he had vanished permanently for a few days, honestly. This state persisted until Kyres gave us an ultimatum to rework the Empire of Dominia. I jumped at the chance and presented the rework I had been assembling, in private, for a few weeks now. Kyres stamped off on it with his approval and passed it to Pegasus for review. Kyres, following proper lore team procedure, requested that Pegasus look the document over and give his okay on it.

It has been two weeks since that date, and the insistence of “I’m too busy” remains - he has been too busy to state his issues with the rework publicly. Pegasus is quite busy, and I am concerned that he does not have enough time to devote to both his life and the position of human lore maintainer. Despite this, he has managed to start his own rework of Dominia and progress with it to a decent amount. Not the extent of my rework, but the fact yet remains.

Initially I was somewhat perplexed as to why this was happening. Pegasus was clearly on and about, but no communication was ever being had with him. This perplexing situation went on for a few weeks for me, with me scratching my head at Pegasus’ lack of communication but assuming it was due to him being busy or something. Eventually, I came to realize that it was not due to him being busy: Pegasus instead revealed that he thought that he was discounted by most of our lore team, and that his opinion did not really matter - that no matter what he did the result would be bad, so the only option was to shut himself off from the community writ large. He was doing nothing to understand or comprehend the issues and grievances people had with him, instead shutting himself off. Borya has tried to convince him to change his outlook, but nothing resulted from these conversations.

This shutting off is to the detraction of the human lore team and the lore team as a greater whole, as it means that he is presently barely there. When he is there, it generally results in barely concealed or unconcealed fighting between Pegasus and members of the lore team that he views as hostile towards him. It is utterly exhausting and thoroughly demoralizing to experience this. It feels like anything we try to do as the entire human lore team gets caught up in Pegasus’ nihilism, so why even bother doing anything with him? It is frustrating to see him remain in this cycle of distrust and hatred, knowing that all our efforts to remove him from it have been for nothing.

Allow me to conclude by saying that I am not participating in this complaint because Pegasus is busy with life - that would be unreasonable of me. I am participating in this due to a severe lack of communication from Pegasus, and my frustration with that. Something needs to change.

With that being said, it should also be noted that we are not writing this complaint because Pegasus is entirely wrong in all that has transpired within the lore team, but his decisions in dealing with the matters detriment not only himself, but also us. His suffering also translates in us suffering as a result. It actually really pains me to make this complaint with Schwann but this seems to be the only way to challenge the current state of affairs in our team.

I can not only vouch for, but agree with everything said here. The constant lethargy and nihilistic outlook from Pegasus has, indeed, created a jam in the lore where there shouldn't be. This has gotten old over the course of the two years (nearly) he's been in our employ. As well, it is a terrible move to start your own rework while lagging behind on reviewing and grading the prior one.

It would take a pointless eternity to go over everything that has happened in the last two years, so I will simply say this complaint is no longer necessary.
