Bring back the Jotun

Remember that tank the TCFL had, but never used because it was behind an admin barrier? I do.
Jotun was the trump card of the Legion, and if admins were generous, it would bring havoc to the station- In all the best ways. Unfortunately, bringing it into the newmech code wasn't a priority, and it was retired to just being a setpiece. I say no more, let's bring back Jotun. Modernize it to have the mech attachpoints and give it back it's cannons and guns, give it rubber tank treads so it doesn't actually break the station by moving, or at least doesn't do as much damage by running people over as oldtank did.. Lemme get my tank commander on.

It's a tankette. ;)

Tanks in stations are incredibly anachronistic, and even more ridiculous for a supposedly advanced society like TC. Just give them a mech or something.

Mechs lazy and dumb. Tanks cool and old.
That and the TCFL isn't advanced. That's why they use blasters and gauss guns instead of lasers and railguns like other advanced militarizes.

TCFL use anachronistic gear because their budget leaves them limited to offbrand products.

Why is a tank egregious but our history of much stronger combat mechs are not?

The TCFL having the Jotun tankette is equivalent to how a lot of european armies use the MG3 machine gun even in the modern day, as it's a derivative to the MG42.

Because a tank fitting inside a space station is fucking ridiculous. 'Tankette' is a poor excuse for using WW2-tier technology in the 2400s, and it's only been cute so far when the aesthetically low-tech Taj have used it. To have a supposedly 'modern' society like TC using WW2-tier tech is fucking ridiculous, especially when we've had outdated mechs for the longest (Durands) that would fit such a role just as well and without killing immersion.

Why is a tank fitting on the station more egregious than a large mech fitting on the station? The mechs are large tall and heavy. Is it just the wrong mouthfeel?

The Jotun is not a tankette, it's a MBT. Thing would be huge, logically speaking.

Tanks are much larger than the mechs of our setting. Mechs are large, certainly, but they're crewed by a single person and are also designed in a way that's more conducive to moving around in a cramped environment. A tank is designed to navigate open terrain.

Per the above size mention, there's also that tank treads are absolutely notorious for fucking up infrastructure; with station floor tiles no doubt being notably weaker than any standard road. I'd expect tiles ripped up, crushed in or otherwise destroyed in some manner if a tank were to drive over them.

Hmmmmmm................................

OK. I can see the merit of these arguments. The Jotun is probably the wrong mouthfeel for space station hallways.

Don't they have rubber treads for this exact reason?

Rubber treads on asphalt roads are one thing. This is a station with somewhat flimsy, easy-to-remove tiling that's covering sensitive piping and cables.

What if breaks floor tiles it drives over?

What if itsl becomes a hovertank?

For all intents and purposes I do not give a single shit about tanks being unreasonable to have on a station if someone PRs readding the tank.

It'd have to break the pipes and potentially destroy the electrical cables. If you're willing to have that, why not, it gives people a more valid IC justification to hate the dumbasses driving tanks inside a space station.
