Haven't been following the discussion, don't really care to. This is like the 24th topic in my time playing SS13 about security so everything that's been said I've seen before. For the sake of argument, I'll just put down how I conduct myself as security so people can see it from the other side or whatever.

  • 1. Talk shit get hit. Not literally, no, but what this basically means is if you're going to fight me all the way to a cell, physically or otherwise - yes, I am going to bucklecuff you, set your timer, and dump you in there without saying anything. No, you shouldn't expect my character to want to sit there and undergo repeated abuse by your screaming, and you should expect additional time for calling her a cat or something. Respect is a two way street. You're the one who ended up in the brig, not me, bud.

    2. Resisting only makes my baton harder. Most of the time I ask you to come with me, depending on the situation. If it's not a violent crime I won't pull a weapon. If you have a gun or are dangerous or are in the middle of something or running, yeah, I'm going to clock you. But if you comply - that doesn't mean repentant, you don't have to kiss my ass or go 'oh officer im so sorry' - and don't make things difficult for Ana she'll be nicer to you and take off time. But in line with #1 if you decide to be a shit you'll be treated like shit.

    3. No, Mr. Antag, I expect you to DIE. If you are a serious danger to my character or other characters and don't surrender after repeated warnings I am going to blow your head off and not feel the least bit bad about it. People on this server seem to expect security to roll over and let antagonists get away with everything because it's 'interesting'. I don't. Whether or not someone is an antag is irrelevant to me, I treat them all the same. OOCly modifying IC behavior just because you know the hostage taker is a traitor is in fact metagaming. Metagaming is not good under any circumstances. Most of the time when I have to shoot someone I give them a warning. 'Surrender or lethal force will be used' or similar. And they ignore it. Sometimes I repeat the warning. And they still ignore it. So if it comes to this point and you just blew one of my officer's heads off running, I am going to splatter your grey matter on the floor. Blame yourself for ignoring my warnings.

    4. FIVE FUCKING MINUTES. Yeah, you, chef. You just drew 'dick' on the floor. I saw you do it. Vandalism. Come on. Let's go. Oh, no. Now you're going to run. Okay. Go and hide in the cold room. Now you got a knife? Great. Stabbed me while I cracked your head with a baton. You just went from five minutes to permabrig. Good job. Seriously, I have seen so many people, balds, regulars, 'good RPers' go on absolutely stupid nutty rampages because they got charged with a crime so miniscule it'd be like two minutes if they complied, and then they get pissed off when security treats them like shit for making them hunt them down for HALF AN HOUR. If your character is so pompous and arrogant that they'd do that, fine. But don't bitch in OOC.

    5. I AM GETTING SHOT AT, FUCK YOU. Hi. There's nuke ops lighting up the station and you just decided to start slipping people with bananas, or teleporting monkeys into security, or leaving animals by radios in random places. Thanks for that. Have fun with extended times. If you consciously choose to be a chucklefuck in a high stress scenario, why are you NOT expecting security to not be in the mood for your shit? Do you think a cop is going to be happy having a pie thrown at him in the middle of a shootout? I have experienced numerous situations on both this server and Bay where people do absolutely retarded shit in red or blue alert in the middle of fighting, and then cry when security has no patience for their bullshit. Yeah, sorry buddy. The Ninja eviscerating people is more important than you being an ass. Have a time out until you learn to be an adult.

    6. I HATE SEC BECAUSE I'M SO EDGY. 'omg fuckin redshirts' *gets arrested* 'WHY AREN'T THEY NICE TO ME'. Yet another trope that seems to propagate on every SS13 server is people who hate sec just because or won't comply with sec just because, and then act incredulous when all of the hateful shit slinging they've fired off at security gets them treated like the insufferable dickbutt that they are. If you want security to treat you with dignity, treat them with dignity. You are not entitled to respect.

I have been playing security in this game since I started in 2012, and I've seen everything. I've seen people who brown-nose antags so much it looks like they shoved their face into a chocolate cake. I've seen people purposely be idiots at security either to get antags off scott-free or as an OOC player wanting to piss of sec IC. I've seen people lynch security for daring to shoot a dangerous murderer actively resisting arrest with a lethal weapon. And Ana has seen it all too. From the Exodus to the Aurora - she didn't start out the way she was today. She was a timid, naive catlady who couldn't aim a gun at another living person under normal circumstances. And you know what changed that? It wasn't antag rounds, or changelings, or traitors, or anything like that. It was you. It was the crew. The constant abuse she suffered ICly at the hands of the same, edgy, sec-hating characters that exist everywhere. So you want to know why security has a low tolerance for your bullshit? Because you made them that way.

We can't do anything about the balds. We can't do anything about the random one off security players who don't know what a period is. They're there. We hate them as much as you. But you take your experiences with Borderline Griefer McGee the officer and apply it to the rest of the officers and you embitter their characters and make them hate you. You create the bitter, no-nonsense officers that offend your gentle sensibilities.

The irony tho.

Nothing more to really be said.

Does it have something to do with the fact that antags tend to be more fun to RP with than sec? Things ~happen~.

So basically all (and possibly suspected) antags?

Basically, powergame. Kill to win. gg. I love how you miss the entire concept of HRP and are working to end an antag round right away instead of providing an interesting storyline for other RP'ers. Very reminiscent of tgstation, I like it.

Ever wondered that sometimes those "good RP'ers" don't comply because your character sucks ass at security? Ever crossed your mind?

Actually, I also partially agree with you here, I don't think it's fair. Only partially because this stems from a systematic problem where nuclear and many other gamemodes are only really experienced by security because of how imbalanced the game is drawn. For everyone else, it's like a super-shitty extended round where you can't do anything - people like to entertain themselves sometimes, so good luck keeping everyone in their departments when red alert comes down.

Actually, you're shitsec. If your personal feelings are affecting your ability to work, and if your OOC feelings are actually making you act like a shitlord, maybe you need to realize that some people actually might be roleplaying a realistic version of how people respond to people who can't work as security. To be honest, your issue is common, so this is not personally directed at you.

Myself, if I ever commit a minor IC crime, I expect to be arrested - in the end, the only thing that pisses me off is not the actual arrest, but the fact that someone is getting OOC'ly pissed off that I did a minor crime during a non-busy extended round, roleplayed it and is channeling their rage via their shitty snowflake self-insert. When you've got that, plus LOOC bullying that doesn't stop past "TABLE THAT BITCH", security deserves what they dish out. You've got weapons, social and station power; you're not going to flip the tables on some other department that can't get away with the shit that you do.

Security has many techniques as factions for handling troublesome people, and I can tell by your temperament that you couldn't handle someone who doesn't suck authority dick for two seconds because it hurts you OOC'ly. It brings to question why you even play security in the first place sometimes if you can't even RP your job? Is it for some OOC power trip? Do you get off on being in a red uniform and having the power to be the station's batman superhero? Is it all about you? God I will never know.

I'm familiar of people getting bitter - the people who get bitter are control freaks who wanted to be robust brilliant and praised security with their self-inserts and it turned out the whole station wasn't kissing their ass and obeying the law all the time and it hurt their OOC feelings because they wanted that control and they can't get it. Why? I was one too, then I grew the fuck up and stopped taking the virtual world so damn seriously. We all start out "nice sec", but actual good sec are made from experience, not naivete, and unless you admit this issue lies in your inability to relieve control of everything that happens IC and focus on the OOC experience you will never, ever be happy. Stop making excuses for your incompetence as an RP'er.

I had actually considered some of the points of your previous post in the thread, but then I stopped myself because I realized you lack any sort of credibility since you resort to ad-hominem attacks the moment your ridiculous sec-hatred has some holes blown into it.

That's okay, Cassie. If it makes you feel better to insult me and call me incompetent or shit, go ahead. If it makes you feel more secure in your irrational hatred to insinuate that I'm awful at roleplay and Literally Hitler because I don't metagame to make antag's jobs easier, sure. Go ahead. Let it all out of your system babe.

It's interesting that you seem to think this all has something to do with me OOC. It doesn't. And never once in that post did I say it did, hence why my grammar involved 'my character'. But I guess if you build a big enough strawman you'll probably end up looking like you're in the right at the end.

I'm not going to address any points here, I'm going to be clear.

This thread has turned into a flame war, you are throwing blame to each other while refusing to accept any fault.

If you have a problem with a player there is section on the forums to sort that out.

If you have a problem with a character there is a section on the forum for that.

Thread is getting locked due to lack of civil discussion.

You gentlemen and ladies do realize that this basically turned into a place to vent and call people out? Which is by no means constructive anymore, and just serves to offer personal satisfaction, no actual solution to be provided.

Please, consider filing player complaints and actually maintaining a constructive effort towards this? Because, shouting at people does not do anything. It just creates a larger mess to walk out of.
