Shadow7889s Command App

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Shadow7889

Character names: AlNzar Satak and Razorak Szsk

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since 2015

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I was on the Command whitelist once before. Being a part of Command staff always offered a variation of RP from the norm as standard jobs went. There was more.. I think the word I'd like to use is options. I always wish to be a part of the upper echilon that helps move things forward. Keeps things interesting for the crew/players.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora due to a friend's suggestion to the server. That and the HRP setting is what I enjoy when playing SS13 most of the time.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: A few times over, yes.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Over the course of my five to six years on the server, I've received notes, warnings, and bans including a perma-ban. I was allowed to rejoin the server on the grounds that I did not get any notes from the time of approval. I have stayed within the lines of community and server rules and will continue to do so. It's been four months without any issues.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about exploring your imagination in a setting outside of reality, most times. Making a story, interacting with outs. The acting out of the part of a particular person or character. I believe roleplay should be about having fun with others, enjoying a story thats already written, or to be wrote. The limits to roleplay should only be the limit of creativity a person has. I've always found that in any given roleplay situation on the server, it's never the same thing. Always different for myself and others.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a head of staff should be the ability to drive roleplay in a effective nature for the crew. You're expected to do so and held at a high standard in doing so. Any head of staff should have the ability do this. Additionally you're meant to bring coordination to whatever team you're leading and know your role well. CE for example should know how engineering works rather well, and be able to deal with stressful situations regarding engine failure or other large issues. Their job depends on the former. It's also about understanding when to step into a situation or just overwatch and let the team you're leading handle things.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe Command staff are responsible in helping others learn if they need help. Teaching interns/apprentices/cadets. Even your regular staff in round. This and again helping to move a round forward for the others if it's needed.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? I think the biggest thing that's happened at this point in time is the formation of the SCC. All these huge megacorps moving into a... Heck I dunno, gigacorp? Heh. I will say Szsk is a bit wary of it, as it appears to be driven by a rather unexhaustable greed. He's concerned how this may affect him and others later on, if anything bad comes of it. He's from Moghes, so he's not entirely in the loop about everything, but he's got an idea.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? I will be bringing back my IPC Head of Personnel, Jarvi, and eventually, when Satak's old enough and has done a good bit of engineer time, Chief Engineer. I won't be promoting Szsk due to suggestions from other community members on his behavior ICly. I feel it's too soon for him, and this may come at a much later date down the road when he's matured enough to be considered.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Jarvi - Head of Personnel

How would you rate your own roleplaying? I'm not the best at it, and I have made my fair share of mistakes in the past, but with mistakes comes improvement and experience. I would like to think I've learned from each of them and would consider my rating around 6/10.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?  Yuuup. Been there, done that. Will not be happening a second time.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes.

Extra notes:

Thanks for reading! Shoutout to skull who tried to help me fix my app lmao. I had to re-write this entire app due to some issues with an internal error.

Shadow is someone I've interacted with ICLY on multiple occasions since I first joined back in 2017. They know what they are doing, they know how to play their characters and interact with them in a believable way. Not to mention that Shadow was previously on the Command WL, I interacted with them during that time frame as well and it was a very positive and enjoyable experience. I'd definitely give this a +1 as in my eyes they have already proven themselves capable for the position, especially during the recent revenant round where they took control of their department as Interim HOS and lead the crew to a successful survival of the events. I hope to see you back in the command saddle if it happens again!

I have interacted with Razorak Szsk a few times, and based off of my interactions with the character, I do not feel confident in Shadow's ability to play command - specifically HoS. Generally speaking, I think their play can be lackluster and the character itself is wholly unsuited to being a part of command. Notably, the character has a tendency to violently lash out at people for relatively innocuous things, even other security officers. HoS is a role that requires a cool head and the right demeanor, and I do not at all think Razorak Szsk has what it takes to make a good, reasonable command character. I have seen the character even make remarks that seem wholly OOC.

Specifically the "I didn't kill one, you actual fucking retard." remark. I have another anecdote I can give about why I think the character is unsuited for command, but I'll leave that aside unless it's requested.

I really genuinely hate to give negative feedback on applications, but I feel like in this case, it'd be a mistake to not voice my opinion. -1 from me.

Thank you for this feedback! While I understand your view given Szsk, it's also a flaw of his, ICly. He has a lack of trust for humans, and this causes tension, and not to mention he's got a bit of an issue with Zivic. He sees Zivic as annoying and loud, and possibly racist. However, this is purely from an IC standpoint. OOCly, I have no issues with the player! -1 or not, I still appreciate this sort of feed back. I may end up tweeking Szsk's attitude a bit if needed before he moves up to command. Thanks again!

I myself had a few good times witnessing both in and out of character capabilities for Sszk. Coming from a situation similar as him, I don't see any severe problems that could be impactful towards the round if he was granted command whitelist to take over as head of security. Everyone in this community makes mistakes and I'm quite understanding and willing to vouch on giving him a shot at command whitelisting again.

Overall. Everyone makes mistakes and if the man is down to give this another run through again. I'm more than happy to see him try.

+1

I don't really think your character Szsk would ever reasonably be promoted to a head of security. This is the same unathi that openly said multiple times to human officers that they hate humans and the same unathi who loses his cool so often that a joke about Moghes being nuked made him so mad that he tried assaulting an officer.

Would adjusting the application to reflect a different character be permitted then? I can understand where you and Danse are coming from.

I think that this player is capable of command, though Sszk is a kind of a, put bluntly, unga bunga Unathi. I knew of and had heard of that aspect of the character before interacting with them personally. Some of their IC behavior has struck me as quite honestly unbecoming of Command-staff (I think the remark that Danse posted earlier with the r-word is particularly harsh, and I would not want to share command with someone who has fits like that.) However, this is nothing that cannot be worked on and improved especially in Trial, and I think that maybe if Sszk adapted and showed restraint more often in his day to day they would make a well enough fit for Command. I think that any character advancing to command needs to realize that they cannot act like regular crew anymore and change their behavior accordingly. Furthermore, it does really take a bit of practice and it's kind of a mental swap to get into the command mindset and learn the dos-and-don'ts of command behavior and etiquette. God knows I struggled with it at first. Just something to keep in mind / consider.

I will likely comment again once I have shared command with them, should they be trialed.

After Shadow's decision to try for command on a different character and having talked to them a bit on discord about their plans for Sszk (being a character arc where they learn to control their emotions better and adapt to a more professional environment over time), I don't see why they shouldn't be given a Trial. ^^
