PMCG Subsidiary - Perun Interstellar

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): PMCG Subsidiary

Short Description: Perun Interstellar is a  PMC that focuses mainly on space-based operations, specifically when it comes to policing ships and stations

How will this be reflected on-station?: Another option for characters from the PMCG when their time comes

Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: This PMC specializes in a niche few others do, as well as providing a new career avenue for Offworlder Humans.

Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways that you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? Naturally

Long Description:

Old and bad version:

Quote

As recent conflicts have proven, the outcome of fights above the skies are essential to any actions taken planetside. A PMC known as Perun Interstellar was soon established with the express purpose of specializing in this theater, as proclaimed in their motto "A New Angle for a Modern Battleground". Their doors are open to most backgrounds, though an unsurprising majority of employees are Offworlder Humans. Perun makes a point of not sending any employees to the surface in a conflict, and their skill in ship-to-ship combat is decidedly average. Their true specialization lies squarely on boarding actions and all that entails. Employees that have grown up navigating a zero-g environment often find themselves able to use that to their advantage against opponents more suited to having their feet on the ground at all times. Clients willing to utilize Perun's services soon realize that the hefty price is often worth it, as a robust in-house network of support staff does everything in their effort to ensure as high a survivability rate as possible.

Behind every operative is a team consisting mechanics to service the equipment, coordinators, and even engineers hired to analyze ships and stations for critical points, like gravity generators and power supplies, the former of which is often prioritized as a target to give them the advantage in battle. Perun also plays host to an auxiliary team of surveyors who consult with other forces associated with their client to identify the best possible locations for their client to land when the company has cleared a way through orbit. All parts of the company have proven themselves effective, mostly through anti-piracy operations around the Spur. Those that have found themselves having to work alongside them often hold rather mixed views of employees, as the widespread belief that their operations are the most essential has fomented an arrogant attitude within the company.

Version Two:

Quote

As recent history has proven, conflict and policing in space requires an all-new skillset. A PMC known as Perun Interstellar was soon established with the express purpose of specializing in this niche, as proclaimed in their motto "A New Angle on Old Work". Employees are mostly drawn from Coalition space, though an unsurprising majority of the workforce consists of Offworlder Humans. Perun makes a point of not sending any employees to the surface of a planet, and their skill in ship-to-ship combat is decidedly average. While a contingent of boarding specialists are kept and perform adequately due to their upbringing spent navigating such environments, most employees of Perun are contracted out to ships and stations across the Spur to serve as local law enforcement and in some cases, assist directly in the navigation and control of ships.

Due to the unique environment and adaptations most Perun employees are familiar with, their practices in the field are often done with extreme levels of caution and situational awareness, with bravado and rash behavior looked upon poorly. This is reflected at all levels in the company, as Perun, for most of its history, only dealt with clients from a small region of the Coalition, often as a means to prop up undermanned fleets and stations. It's only been a very recent development that they've started to broaden their scope, and despite being accepted as a subsidiary of the PMCG, a lot of work must be done to solidify their reputation. Nevertheless, many employees take pride in their work, with most having pulled themselves up from a variety of backgrounds, and are eager to prove that Perun is here to stay.

Further perpetuating this attitude is the sizable demographic of Scarabs that have joined Perun and let their own beliefs intertwine themselves with the company's culture. None of this is limited to the lower levels of the company either as Perun, for most of its history, only dealt with clients from a small region of the Coalition, often as a means to prop up undermanned fleets and stations. Put second version in spoiler instead of quote because dumb

Why is a PMCG that specializes in *boarding* ships being hired on this general purpose NBT ship? I get that we might be in risky waters, but this is a type of PMC group when you are in a war or need protection from a defined threat. This is way too militaristic for the NBT.

I also ask you this: what is the thing that makes this group actually interesting? Right now they just fight in a good way. Them being arrogant because they're such badass fighters and smart engineers is not enough.. There is literally nothing else that adds to the roleplay scene of the ship, no origin and no factions that they're tied to. If this gets added, it will never be different enough to actually make a splash in character creation and character roleplay. It is not unique enough nor interesting enough. This makes more sense as an ERT group in its current state.

After a brief conversation, the company has been reworked. Here comes version two:

Though the original version had me agreeing fully with what DeadLantern said, the edit is much better. That said, I still feel it's a bit too nebulous. You have something going with the off-worlder angle, and I think you should expand on that. Is there a way to perhaps link in the Scarabs, and maybe even the Techno-Conglomorate? I think that provides a much better base to work off with. You can tie in aspects of those cultures that has come to shape the company in general.

Personally, I think leaning into zero-g operations of all kinds as their 'unique theme' is the way to go, because that is also something you can use on-station. Maybe they have extra operations with EVA equipment? This PMC also seems to be the best contender to merge the 281 proposal in with.

As a last note, which isn't aimed at just you, I find that a lot of people who have made PCMG suggestions have really jumped the gun here. All three suggestions that I've seen don't seem to have much time put into them, and were posted mainly because the PCMG got announced. It is genuinely heartwarming to see more applications here - but I suggest you give them a lot more thinking before making more edits. None of these concepts are bad, but they do certainly need more time in the oven.
