Minor Suggestion: Tret Orbital Neutron Manufactory

Recommended Posts

Lore Impact (Small/Medium/Large): Small

Species: Vaurca

Short Description:

This changes and expands upon the existing Tret K'lax Neutron forge to provide it with some lore. A K'lax Forge that could make materials by re-arranging the molecular structure of objects seems like a piece of lore that is worth expanding upon.

How will this be reflected on-station?:

Both a location to be talked about and somewhere a Vaurca or Unathi character could have worked at before the lay-off's. It could also act as further motivation to search for Phoron.

Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?:

It expands upon the already existing facility above Tret and ties it into ongoing Phoron crisis instead of just being a piece of lore to be mentioned idly as something that needs expansion.

Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways that you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team?:

Sure do.

Long Description:

Tret Orbital Neutron Manufactory:

Spoiler

A moderate sized foundry orbiting Tret designed by collaboration between K’lax Lesser Queen Vetju’s hive and Hephaestus Industries R&D teams. The ambitious project was first unveiled late in 2462. Whilst dwarfed in sheer size by many of Hephaestus's other Orbital Super Factories and its production lines being only capable of refining raw resources such as steel, gold and uranium, its most notable feature is the inclusion of an experimental K’lax Neutron Forge at the centre. Originally used on Sedantis as a critical way of producing resources that could not be harvested efficiently from the crust of the planet or mass produced through other methods within the confined caves, the Neutron Forge is capable of disassembling Phoron and reconstructing it on a molecular level into other objects. Unfortunately despite Vetju’s and her workers best efforts the original designs are currently unfeasible to create due to the incredible cost both in constructing and maintaining them. Unwilling and unable to divert so much work away from ensuring the survival of her Hive this new version of the Neutron Forge is only capable of producing raw resources and consumes an astronomical amount of Phoron. Despite this both Hephatues and the K’lax hives considered its launch a success worthy of celebration helping further tighten the bonds of the two. The manufactory is staffed by a large group of both Vaurca and Unathi who work tirelessly to maintain the forge, supply it with Phoron, refine the resources that come from within it and then transport them to their destinations, typically other Hepahustes facilities within the Hegemony and beyond. The forge ran without ceasing until 2463 where it began to feel the effects of the Phoron crisis; the majority of the factory’s staff were laid off within the first few months of the crisis, and more redundancies are expected as Phoron becomes scarce.

I'll be sitting in on this one since it involves unathi and the Hegemony, but I think it's a great idea to add to Tret. My only question for you is this: why make the date so soon? It could be pushed back a bit to give room for characters to have some work experience there before moving to the Aurora (IE project started in 2459, finished in 2461).

I'd be happy to and would in fact find the date being pushed back preferable. The date was picked because it's the current date the forge was opened in the brief article about it so I was just keeping it consistent with that. If the lore-team is happy to edit the article etcetera, then a project start date of 2459 with a conclusion of 2461 sounds good.

Hi, I do like this idea, and think it consuming phoron during the crisis is an interesting way to make it relevant. I'm the one who wrote the original article, and iirc I left it at that because there were concerns about the article and powercreep or something along those lines back then. I don't know, looooong time ago.

Anyway, I find this interesting enough to add into lore in some capacity, so I'll be moving this to deferred acceptance. Woo.
