Give Departments More Voidsuits

Firstly, this is absolutely a knee-jerk reaction to the Dreary Futures II finale. However, I do think that the amount of venting possible on the Horizon (Which tbf, makes sense, it's a ship after all), justifies there being more EVA equipment in general, but at the very least more voidsuits for the departments that are often expected to keep working during these scenarios. Engineering already have one each I think, but Security and Medical can't even put half their department in EVA safe gear (Might be wrong on the medical count, but it's only a little more than half). Research also like getting involved, and I wouldn't be opposed to them having more voidsuits either.

I can say for medical, we only get 3 voidsuits in EVA. If the medical bay is full, like during an event, there are 2 surgeons, 4 physicians, 1 CMO (who doesn't get their own suit), 2 first responders (who get hardsuits), 2 pharmacists (rare but I've seen it), and interns. Ignoring the interns and pharmacists and first responders, there are 7 medical staff including a command member. Three voidsuits is just under half of that.

I completely agree that there should be more voidsuits for at least medical, or easier accessible soft suits. I'd also support the CMO getting a suit, but I also understand why that wouldn't be implemented.

I would say that this isn't a terrible issue if the Machinists are pressed to produce hardsuits, or if more voidsuits are ordered from Cargo, as it encourages engaging with Operations. Don't be afraid to break into the departmental budget for spare suits, or be willing to sacrifice the backpacks and roll with the cheap EVA Hardsuits that the Machinist can produce effectively from the get-go.

When it comes to hardsuits, materials are often stretched too thin in situations where they are necessary. The Horizon has always had a materials shortage compared to the Aurora by nature of how mining works now, but particularly in high-intensity rounds where mining have small hauls, and engineering need extra materials to keep the ship together, hardsuit construction rightly gets knocked down on priorities.

As for ordering them, I forgot this existed to be honest, so perhaps that would be an alternative.

It may actually be more cost-effective to order materials instead of directly ordering voidsuits, but of course that's the longest solution in an emergency. Probably more ideal if your department doesn't have a member of Command with departmental account access though.

not sure medical needs six voidsuits, considering they already have 2 hardsuits. 8 is a lot.

Those two hardsuits are almost exclusively for First Responders. Only FRs and the CMO can access them. The rest of the medbay staff only have 3 voiduits to share amongst, potentially, 7 staff excluding pharmacist and intern.

You can buy more from Operations or order more from the Machinist? This is what the departmental budget is for, and in the rare situation that you need so many of these - you should have to cooperate with another department for them. I'd be so disappointed to see Operations ignored in favour of mapping in more overstock.

Would be cool to have more of the uh, weak emergency softsuits or whatever, around.

So, yeah, people order more suits from ops or the machinist, if they are really needed.

I would agree, more of the low-tier softsuits would be a sensible compromise.

More voidsuits are only needed in mass emergency situations, wherein operations cannot be used.

In such a case I'd then recommend the machinist. The shittiest hardsuits aren't too bad to make, and very rarely is the workshop disabled entirely. I'd be very disappointed to see departments stocked for the worst of emergencies, as then there really isn't even much point to giving them a budget. It's on the department's head to be able to foresee a situation worsening or react in appropriate time to an emergency and make these orders to Operations - and if Operations itself is disabled, then that's generally a tactical move on part of the antagonist(s) that Engineering and/or Security can work together to resolve.

I think in my five years of playing this server I've literally never seen voidsuits be ordered from Ops because it's an immense waste of time (upwards of ten minutes, not counting fumbling for account money if necessary) and effort to get them where they need to be, so I'd much rather see voidsuits added.

Ops works for luxuries, stronger items and things you can't get otherwise but are necessary for day-to-day activities, not for more mundane things like voidsuits.
