NM_
BYOND key: Comrade Batman Discord Username: NM, formerly NM#5031 Character Names: Ren Hartfort, Surgeon Alyssia Hayes, Engineering Apprentice Arthur Wrynn, Security Cadet How long have you been playing on Aurora? Since the start of March. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? N/A, have not received any. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? Like most IC leadership roles, the goal of any player bestowed the mantle of authority ultimately is to facilitate roleplay. It isn’t that different from antagonists, who serve as the other side of the coin. Some of their most important tasks to support this include, but aren’t limited to: Coordinating their department. A head of staff shouldn’t be a super doctor/engineer/scientist, but someone who is able to best utilize their team to ensure as much player involvement as possible. If a particular role is filled, it’s expected they give them the chance to shine. Assisting in command decision making. They have a responsibility to their fellow command players to guide the ship onto the best course of action possible. For their department, they are a representative that the Captain or others can refer to for matters in their particular field of expertise. Mentorship. (IC) While not mandatory, it’s the hope that failing any senior members able to, the head of staff can ensure their newest staff member is equipped to do the job. (OOC) New players always come and go. Those that are welcomed and treated fairly are far more likely to stay. Aurora can be intimidating at a glance to join - a head may not necessarily always be able to, but spending the time to help interns can go a long way to helping support the community. Their first impression can easily dictate their experience and if they’d like to continue playing. Building on existing stories. This should be universal across the playerbase, but more-so for a command player. The ability to balance reacting to an antag and not simply crushing their gimmick, for example, is crucial to nurture the story they’re trying to tell. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? OOC and IC go hand in hand on the crux of Command’s responsibility that I outlined earlier. They’re anticipated to maintain the quality of an HRP server, as their elevated rank is intended to be confirmation that they’re someone to look up to if you need help or have any questions. They carry experience, have been properly vetted, and should be a reliable source for others. It’s a blend of leadership, mentorship, and arbitrator in both scopes of the server. They can drive the narrative as much as end it, which in turn affects the enjoyment of everyone involved in a round. A welcoming, helpful player can mean the world to someone on the fence about sticking around. I have every desire to abide by these expectations to create an engaging, supportive, and hopefully enjoyable environment. I’ve mentored at least a dozen new players in Medical throughout my time here and will continue to help anyone who needs it. In time, I’d like to be a wealth of information beyond just Medical and someone that’s approachable for any issues I can resolve. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. Dr. Volvalaad’s career was built upon the foundation of House Volvalaad’s vision. As with many of his kin, Lucius was drawn to the allure of what lay in wait beyond Moroz - teeming cultures rife with opportunity to learn of Dominia’s grace. Not only could these foreign people bear witness to his homeland, they presented a means to acquire greater understanding in pushing the boundaries of Volvalaad’s cutting edge research. A medical doctorate graduate of the esteemed Juno Unviersity, his decorated service in the Imperial Army following House Strelitz’s rigorous military academic curriculum ensured a duality in both martial discipline and medical prowess alike. His work in treating soldiers of the Imperial Army along their campaigns in the frontier ensured their swift recovery in bringing wayward planets beneath their banner. Afforded the opportunity by House Volvalaad and Nanotransen’s joint union after his service, he has since taken the mantle of medical professional for the great house abroad. Beginning on the NSS Canis Minor, his published works and dutiful tutelage as physician researcher drew the attention of the Conglomerate by way of Nanotransen’s influence. Possessing a doctor with military service and a diplomatic disposition, his house proved keen to deploy Dr. Volvalaad to the SCCV Horizon. His transfer and subsequent leadership ensures Dominian interests and representation in an SCC flagship vessel venturing across the spur. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Chief Medical Officer for the time being. In the future, Captain. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I’ve read over the relevant pages needed for the trial. The majority of my playtime since I've started has been in Medical. Prior to making a Captain, I’d like further command experience in game. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Dr. Lucius Volvalaad, Chief Medical Officer (New character for trial) N/A, Captain (For future use after enough experience) Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I do. I strive to uphold the expectations of myself as a Command player with the responsibility/agency in rounds that can affect the department and the ship itself. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I have. Extra Notes: I’m typically an evening to late night player. Feedback might be slow by virtue of a lower pop during this time, less folks to chip in. I’ll be sure to advertise after rounds since I’m not particularly well known OOC, mostly just for my surgeon. 5 Link to comment
Warbidon
It was a joy teaching you on the steps of how to be a surgeon and watching you take the rest of the journey out, and I have watched you learn and spread that joy to dozens of other people. I think there is no finer example of an excellent engager of the medical department and its intricaces, especially someone that should be a CMO, then the player of Ren Hartfort. +1 1 Link to comment
Noble Row
+1 Ren Hartfort is probably one of my favorite members of medbay, with an incredibly responsible demeanor with the skills to match. He is probably one of the most reasonable and understanding characters on the station. With a character like that, I can only imagine what else the player behind the wheel can do. Would love to see this player get their hand as Head of Staff and see what they can do! Edited June 10, 2023 by Noble Row 1 Link to comment
gladiatorgames123
I've come round to offer my greatest plus one to Batman here! Comrade and his characters, particularly Ren Hartfort, have been some of the most engaging and well thought out character's in my time playing on Aurora. The passion, detail and dedication he has is truly astonishing... Words cannot detail how confident I am that Batman will make an excellent addition to the Command team with his care and diligence surely to be reflected in his new Command char. God bless, Ren... One day you'll become CMO yourself... Major +1 from me. 1 Link to comment
Jasorn
+1 Very constructive and helpful to people learning medical, and a solid skillset in it too. Very good at roleplaying too, surprised Ren isn't CMO already, since they act like one 1 Link to comment
Rabid Animal
I love to see Ren on the manifest, he's fun to interact with in the short sessions I do so, and I hope to find more reasons to engage with them. I don't really have any experience with NM_s other characters, but I'm happy to give a +1 based on what I've seen. 1 Link to comment
TeslaBeam
+1 I've never played medical myself, but I have had the pleasure of interacting with Ren a fair amount over the months. Aside from impeccable knowledge of medical, they are just a genuinely well-rounded and satisfying character to be around. I can't remember a time I've walked away from one of Comrade's characters without feeling glad I walked up to them. I'd love to see what this player can do in a Command role, I think they would be a great fit. 1 Link to comment

NM_
Thank you all deeply for the kind words! I'm a newcomer here as far as some of the veterans I've seen, and it's been a challenging experience trying to find my place here at times. I've put in a lot effort to learn my roles to the best of my ability and contribute to this community that has taken me in so generously. It means so much to hear it from all of you, genuinely. Command application or not, I hope everyone knows how much I appreciate you guys for the feedback and for welcoming me in. 😁 3 Link to comment
Owen
On trial until 19 June 2023. Try to play command as much as possible during this time, but don't stress too much if you can't. Make sure to advertise your application in OOC at the end of the round to gather feedback on your application. We'll get your access to command roles updated soon. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me on Discord: owen2139 Good luck! 1 Link to comment
limette
Had a round with him as interim CMO when he stood up as Acting Captain. IMO he handled the round well, gave the antagonists reasonable opportunities, and most importantly delegated well from the position of Captain without being overbearing. I liked it! Not a ton to say beyond that; I can't really rate roleplay ability since I latejoined into an already hectic round. +1 for now. 1 Link to comment
La Villa Strangiato
I played as a first responder under Lucius Volvalaad during a wild and wacky ninja round, and not only did he effectively delegate to engineering, security, and medical by employing interim heads, he was present, communicative, and overall wasn't just an empty vessel of a character. It was the kind of conduct you'd expect from an experienced command player! Edited June 13, 2023 by La Villa Strangiato heads, not officers 1 Link to comment
whitewolftamer
Ren Hartvort my beloved... I've not worked directly underneath Lucius (I do not have a medical character), however I know for sure they have the RP aspect down as I have interacted with them frequently. That being said, from what I have seen of their command work from an outside perspective, they seem to handle the role well. So to say they don't use CMO as an excuse to be an everyman doing all the work, and from what I could see they delegate and command their department well. +1 1 Link to comment
Fluffy
I've played with Ren a fair bit, and never seen any OOC problematic choice that I recall, so +1 from me! 1 Link to comment
Lly2
Ren has at some point or another, across every character I've played since coming back to the server, ended up inviting me to join in with whatever roleplay they've had going on at the moment. Whether it's been coming and asking a character to join in with their conversation, or just offering a spot out the front of Medbay to join in with their smoke break, I find that in all my experience with them NM is extremely consistent in making active effort to get other people involved, and to give them someone to hang out with. I think that's probably the most important trait any command character could have, and they've been exemplary with it already even just as a regular peon surgeon. +1 from me. 1 Link to comment
Rookie Eyes
Nothing positive has been said about Ren Hartfort that hasn't been said already. There were at least two rounds recently where NM_'s CMO, Lucius Volvalaad, was the acting captain, and was directing security just as effectively as an HoS would in my opinion. They kept contact with us, made sure we were informed and coordinating, and still oversaw their own department. Easy +1 from me. 1 Link to comment
Ricky_the_banshee
Kind of hard to chime in when everybody has shared a similar sentiment towards Comrade's portrayal of a command character. He's shown exemplary command play, taking and receiving feedback from his department as well as others who chime in when an emergency or situation requries input from elsewhere. His management of the medical bay looks fine too from an outsider's perspective. Everyone appears to have their roles, and knows their positiosn without necessarily overstepping them from what I can tell. And the rare few times I manage to overhear the medical radio, his managing skills appear to be one of many reasons why. During crisis, he has shown to be willing to put Volvalaad in a tough position if it requires it so. And whenever Volvalaad assumes the liking of an acting captain, they stand by to assist departments, coordinate and most importantly provide each department with an interim (at least in security from what I can tell) to ensure there is professional, hands-on leadership. He has had several moments where his character was forced into this otherwise taxing situation, and has proven to be capable of handling them just fine without compromising RP. My experience with the character has been a delight. Like I said, Volvalaad has shown willingness to take feedback, but he isn't necessarily a friend, but he certainly is someone you can rely on during crisis. A stern figure, but with a heart at the right place as one would expect from a doctor. However, once the work and duties are cast besides, Volvalaad appears to be ineractive with the crew, engages in chat and even banter beyond their department. It's a nice little touch that reminds others that besides the command positio, there is a character to explore. I'm curious to see where this will go when he fully becomes a command, but so far? Give this champ that command position. +1 1 Link to comment
NerdyVampire
Only experienced you in a solo round as CMO recently, you seemed to take the reponsibilities of command well on yourself and utilized your AI properly. Your roleplay also seemed to me to be in line with what I expect from other heads. So, +1 from me. 1 Link to comment
stevIII
Though I have only experienced their roleplay first hand a few times, I have witnessed Lucius Volvalaad quite a few times as a Ghost, and seen no grievous issues whatsoever, along with someone who just clearly understands what they're doing. They roleplay extremely well, are patient with new players and communicate well with their team. I would personally love to see them as a permanent fixture to the Command roster. A big fat +1 from me. 1 Link to comment
TheMaskedReader
Ren Hartfort is a character that I always love to see in a round, and Lucius Volvalaad is becoming much the same. I don't know if my opinion matters, but I'd give this a +1. 1 Link to comment
