Roostercat
Jesse, we have to cook. As it stands, after setting up the thrusters/engine, Atmos doesn't really have much to do. Well, engineering in general doesnt have anything to do in particular, but at least I have a solution for Atmos techs. I may also be willing to pay for this. Maybe. This is going to be split into two different suggestions that are related 1. The addition of special gasses that Atmos can create to either sell through cargo or use for more advanced things 2. The addition of a machine I am dubbing a Reagent Vaporizer that can turn certain liquid reagents, such as medicine, into gasses for use in internals tanks or other things To start this off, I am not a coder, I have no idea how bad Atmos code actually is, and I have no idea if anything I am about to yap about is actually feasible code-wise. So like, bear with me here. I am, however, willing to help with any sprites that may be needed. Canisters, machines, gas sprites, things like that. The main reason I think this could be a good addition is that it solves the issue of Atmos techs having fuckall to do in the round aside from fix occasional breaches or screw with the thrusters/engine (which can only really go so many ways). It also adds gasses that are useful outside of JUST the engines. Here is a few of said gasses; INTERMEDIATES (I stole all of these from TG, sue me) : Used primarily to make other products. I believe just two new ones is enough, since we already have O2, Phoron, CO2 and a lot of other shit in code. Quote BZ; A purple, almost powdery gas that causes hallucinations and brain damage in anyone that inhales it. It is created by mixing N2O and Phoron at low pressures. Freon; A freezing cold gas that is created by mixing BZ, Co2 and Tritium. This makes it a pain in the ass to create, which is good because it is the intermediate used in the best gasses. If released into the air, it will drastically reduce the temperature of its surroundings. It may kill you if inhaled. Unathi beware. BYPRODUCTS: Gasses that you probably created unintentionally through the creation of another gas. I don't have any particular ideas as to WHICH gasses should create these by-products, I am just putting them here for discussion and spitballing material. Quote Miasma; A foul smelling gas that causes nausea and confusion when inhaled. Capizine; A potent gas that causes itching and pain not too dissimilar from pepperspray. USEFUL GASSES Quote Pluoxium; A gas that is identical to oxygen, except that it is inflammable and eight times as efficient. For example, if a person needs 16kPA of pressure in an internals tank to breathe, they would only need 2kPA in a Pluoxium tank instead. This can make internals last a lot longer. It is created by combining Tritium, O2, and Nitrogen at high pressure. Halon; A chalky white fire suppressive gas that works by removing Oxygen (flammable) from the air and replacing it with Pluoxium (inflammable) while at high temperature (such as in a fire). If inhaled, it grants resistance to fire and a hefty slowdown. Statium; A cold, non-reactive gas that, when inhaled, produces an effect very similar to stasis beds and bags, slowing metabolism and slowing down the death of individuals. It is created by mixing Freon and CO2 at low pressure. Radioactive Neutralization Agent; An odorless gas that passively reduces radiation levels in its presence or in idividuals that inhale it. It has no other effects. Created by mixing Tritium and Halon at high pressure and temperature. The second part of the suggestion The Reagent Vaporizer is a new machine I am proposing that can turn certain liquid reagents, like medicines, into a gas. This has two purposes. For one, it can create inter-departmental cooperation between medical and engineering. Secondly, it gives Atmosia a way to really help the station if they put the work in. The process is relatively simple. Though the machine should use a high amount of power, it simply turns any chemical, like Dexalin Plus, into a gas. This can make the medicine cause additional affects, or do nothing. Here are some examples; Quote Dexalin+; Becomes much more efficient, capable of raising the patient's blood oxygenation to 90% instead of 80. Used in concert with Pluoxium and/or Pneumalin, can make a very efficient treatment for popped lungs. Pneumalin; Fairly simple. It heals lungs faster than the liquid version does. Space Cleaner; Stains, dirt, and any other horrendous litter gets vaporized in the presence of gaseous Space Cleaner. It causes mild toxin damage if inhaled, though. Dylovene; Pretty simple, mildly heals toxin damage if inhaled. This list could go on forever and this suggestion is beefy as hell as is. You get the idea. This could also open the door to special gasses that require a vaporized reagent in order to form. And that's what I have. Its a lot, finding a coder masochistic enough to try it will probably prove nigh impossible, and I'm sure that if this gets any traction it will probably turn into a debate. Alas, all I can do is spitball and sprite funny things. 1 Quote Link to comment

This is something their Atmos technicians have. 8 hours ago, Roostercat said: The addition of a machine I am dubbing a Reagent Vaporizer that can turn certain liquid reagents, such as medicine, into gasses for use in internals tanks or other things So there's two reasonable ways I can think of to go about this: Port the reagent sublimator from Baystation Port material phase stages and SSmaterials/Gas merging from Nebula Considering the rest of what you want, the second option is probably preferable, but would be complicated to implement. NerdyVampire
Not a coder, but I like the idea and hope someone adopts it. Anything that gives people something interesting to do (that can be abused by antags/go wrong) is nice Quote Link to comment
Lmwevil
Awesome thread, but good luck getting someone to touch atmos code, I can feel the hairs standing up on Alb's neck thinking about atmos code Quote Link to comment
