Away Mission

I have a bold pitch. Our ground map? Add it, as is, in a new z-level accessible by bluespacing to the beacon via the teleporter. Uncovered, abandoned, unfinished.

We can let people explore it in away missions, and get familiarized with it. Then instead of immediately jumping to it in a year or so, e expeditions mapping and reclaiming it as a reason why its operational again. Maybe add a hand full of hostile mobs too. And for maximum spoopy, some scary cult temple off in the desert.

I like this idea. Allow people to familiarize themselves with it, and it may even lead to some suggestions on what should be fixed, added, or removed. I can see it already:

"Explorers have discovered an abandoned outpost on [planet]. We've dropped a long range teleporter beacon, and we would like you to choose a team of crew members to explore it."

I'd support it.

Ok, Im sorry but I need to crush your dreams now.

Adding the current ground map to our active code system will only corrupt and destroy our current code. so from that angle its a no go.

Secondly. even if we could get over issue number one there comes the issue of our current mapping staff is hard at work trying to finish the new ground station. We are not currently accepting ideas for new bells and whistles due to the fact that I and the rest of the team would rather have the station done before we add the bells and whistles.

The third issue is that running two stations (which is what your asking) on one single code base would create massive amounts of lag and would probably crash the server.

Again sorry but for now this idea is not possable

Regardless of the limitations implied for the current suggestion, I would like to make sure the map team knows that it's hard work and productivity are appreciated by a least a few of us here. I'm not skilled enough to know the details, but I don't doubt that this is a difficult task and I look forward to the finished product.
