Nik Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Not to poke the hive, buuuuuut. I notice the custom item list has expanded since its hiatus to such a degree that it took me five minutes to find my own request, which had been filed four months prior. So, did I miss the message, is it dead? I even went out of my way to create my first custom sprite for that custom item, and when Tish went on haitus I went "fair nuff" and waited. I think waiting is at it's end. Someone yell at me about how I'm bad so we all can know what's going on with that. Quote
TishinaStalker Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Well, the thing is that we sorta only have one (normally active) coder now since Skull is now heavily busy with qualifying for army thing. Scopes has much bigger fish to fry than custom items. So, unless you can make the code yourself and can bring up your own sprites, then I can't really accept apps. Feel me? Quote
Skull132 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Weeell. Let's see. I am giving up my position tomorrow. So that I'd have a month and a bit to square away anything real life related before I'm taken into service, if I'm taken into service. That would leave Scopes as the only coder. My recommendation to him, once he finds the manpower to allocate, is to start from square one, and basically scrub every application. Managing these is much like riding a bike: once you fall off it, you have to stop the bike, before you can get back onto it. Quote
Nik Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Well, that's helpful. Thanks for the update~ Quote
cdb Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 That all said, learning to make new custom items aint the hardest thing. Though it can be especially time consuming if you're doing tooons of 'em, plus sprites. Quote
Dreamix Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I hate to be this guy, but, seems like we are again in this phase of making progress, that is custom items being kill? I mean, applications should be starting to be approved/denied since 19/09/2015, but what is actually happening, is that unapproved apps are again piling up, just like it was before "The Great Archiving". So, am I poking the hive this time? Also, skrell whitelist apps are not being denied/approved/processed. Quote
TishinaStalker Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Literally what Scopes said. We can't just clap our hands together, say "SHAZAM", and boom everybody's custom items are done. Having a bunch of approved apps, but being in the middle of working on a bunch of others will make no difference to what's up now. Quote
Guest Menown Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 IMO, Ground Map should take priority over all other development. Quote
SierraKomodo Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 For coding of custom items, I'm going to be helping. However, I've been told that none of the applications should be considered approved until admins have gone over them again and given a final go-ahead, so I'm waiting on that. Quote

However, I've been told that none of the applications should be considered approved until admins have gone over them again and given a final go-ahead, so I'm waiting on that. This. After speaking with Tish, we'd worked out a plan for cutting down the backlog. I've just been waiting on the green light to proceed with working for several weeks now. Anytime we can get that cleared, Sierra and me can get things underway, I would think. Quote
Dreamix Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 This reply may be overly passive aggressive. Thank you, Sierra and Serveris, your replies were actually helpful and not just "no, because no" or "no, because we can't just clap our hands and stuff". Seriously: We can't just clap our hands together, say "SHAZAM", and boom everybody's custom items are done. Oh, I am sorry that I am so ungrateful and literally hitler and that I dared to ask. I already know that custom items are not easy (despite everyone that is not a mod/admin saying that custom items are the easiest thing to do), and I am 100% sure that I was not the only one that is curious about what's up with custom items. Really, it is so hard to just write a short reply about how everyone is currently busy and that apps may be starting to get done in a week later? Or just a simple estimation on how much time is left to start working on them? Or what is currently being worked on? I mean, what about the ground map? Do I need to use the byond pager to ask the mappers if the map is still there? What about Skrell stuff Skull was going to do? What about map fixes, such as warden not having evidence storage access or weird blastdoor-over-actualdoor things near engineering or in security's second exit? What about... Pretty much everything? Quote
TishinaStalker Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I mean, I was just using it as a form of expression to show that we can't just do things very quickly, and that a backlog would happen on it's own since we're unable to do that. If you're calling yourself Hitler over that, then that's your own problem with the interpretation of my words. Sorry, but I literally have no reason to be passive aggressive because I hate beating around the bush. If I wanted to insult you, then I would straight up tell you. Quote

Having been in contact with alot of the people working on things, yes the ground map is being worked on. There's another project being worked on as well. I'm not sure if the devs want to release the details on it or not, but those two things are eating up alot of people's time in the coding/mapping department. The thing that upsets me is a lack of basically any contact devs/admins----players/community. Why do I get to know about (pretty) important things "from someone, who maybe heard about it, but nothing official". Quote

Why do I get to know about (pretty) important things "from someone, who maybe heard about it, but nothing official". I think it's mostly just a matter of me being on the right communication mediums at the right time (Skype group, TS3, etc), and the fact one of the duty officers is also one of the main mappers.
