Being an adult is about playing in ball pits? Okay then!

You're the adult. You choose what that means. For our generation, it's meant that wehave moved past the stigmas placedupon us by our ancestors. We no longer find racism to be the norm, it is in fact shunned. Woman are rising to equality, children are living without fear of war, communication is becoming free and open. People are stepping into freedom and becoming open-minded.

As an adult, it isn't about whether you can do laundry, it's about helping people everywhere in the world shake off the shackles of yesterday and move forward into equality.

The choice is yours.

Don't speak for our generation. I couldn't give a rat's ass about equality or children living free of war, or people becoming open minded. Being an adult to me is realising that I have responsibilities now, and I need to address them. You can't pay bills with your feelings, Thundy.

I couldn't remember why I didn't like you...now I do. Peace be with you, good sir.

Edit: I realise you said something very key: "Being an adult to me..."

You also have a choice, a choice to be responsible or not. Nothing is imposed upon you unless you let it be. You've proved my point for me, thank you.

I am inclined to say that adulthood means, if anything, adjusting to and perceiving reality clearly - becoming and living in touch with it.

The most significant and remarkable step of that process being the realization that there really isn't any such thing as an adult; there are only people who manage to be more or less happy, who keep healthy interest in life and through love for it and everything connected with it derive joy from the experience, and people who get lost within abstractions and the unreal and falsehoods, driven by anxiety and taking pride in most silly things.

The world/system of adults, so impressive to the child, is nonexistent as far as I can tell; nobody knows what they're doing, much less why.

At the end of the day, everybody just wants to be the most adored kid at the playground and to have the prettiest of sandcastles. And to go to bed after lunch.

And to suck on our mothers' breasts. OH FREUD

Like somebody said, "It isn't a thousand monkeys at a thousand typewriters; it's ten thousand monkeys at a single typewriter, where one half struggles to proceed with the story and the other throws shit at everybody else."

I think being an adult has nothing to do with age and I think that being an adult is simplistic, even if it is not easy. Two phrases come to mind which have really resonated with me personally.

A man is someone who earns his keep.

And

Home is where you hang your hat.

Every human since the dawn of time has to contend with those two things, and I think an adult can be described as one who successfully accomplishes these with the second being more indicative of continuing to exist rather than having a genuine home. Even if their keep is earned by begging and they hang their metaphorical hat on a street corner.

Accept your responsibilities.

Tradition, culture, history, knowledge; these are the most important things one can have and share. Keep them and pass them down to the youths and any who might listen to you.

Those feel like society's greatest treasures; what of compassion, empathy, love, open-mindness?

jesus fucking CHRIST what the hell is wrong with you people

the question wasn't even sincere and you lot went psycho over skuddy skidmarks
