Zundy Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Not sure how feasible this is, but what about a messaging system (possible linked to the forums) that would allow offline players to send PDA messages in character to players currently in the round and visa versa? What say you folks?
Skull132 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I already have the idea developed. It's on my shelf of shit to do. The last piece of the puzzle that I needed was Scopes' all-clear on moving character saves to the database. This would enable cross referencing data and thus proper validation of said data. I got the greenlight for that last week. This would enable the sending of IC emails to characters who might not even be in the round. Or via the website, as we already have the linking of web and BYOND accounts in development for the syndicate contract database idea. Before I do this, though, I need to finish the syndicate contract database.
Killerhurtz Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 So basically, Skull, what you're saying is that this system would establish character persistence? I LOVE THIS
Jboy2000000 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Why does the syndi contracts take preference? This is something that could be used every single round, all the time, even if you're not on the server, contracts can only be used in rounds where the appropriate antags are in play.
Skull132 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Because I already started on them, Jboy. I have the web interface about 40% written. It's silly to get this deep into a project, and then drop it for another one, of equal scale. Plus, some of the systems are necessary.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Consistent e-mails have one issue. While traitor E-mail From: Davis Hassehose To: Captain James T. Honk Sent 12:12pm, December 7th Subject: CA$$$H MONY BITCH UR DEAD KIDDO IM THE BEST SYNDIE OP IN THE WORLD LMAOOOOO PREPARE TO FUCKIN' DIE ONCE YOU BOARD THIS STATION SWEAR ON MY MOTHER Later, when not traitor E-mail From: Davis Hassehose To: Captain James T. Honk Sent 1:12pm, December 8th Subject: oops Haha that last e-mail was a joke just kidding I'm not any kind of bad guy
Conservatron Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 maybe a check to see if a character has objectives and manipulate the message based on that? like from ********** instead of from a name
Skull132 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Either that, or just let the players roll with it as they choose. Both work, IMHO.
Killerhurtz Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 OR, alternatively, add a moderation system and apply the same rules to rounds as there is to the messaging system.
Skull132 Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 There is no way in heck I'm having any one person or people sift through what could amount to tens of messages a day. Since in all likelyhood, the messages are going to be sent between people who know eachother, they can unfuck the canon between themselves.

I guess folks could just report it to an admin if it go super bad?
