Nightmare Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 BYOND Key: Nightmare 00 Staff BYOND Key: Garnascus Reason for complaint: This complaint is about Garnascus' over use of muting channels anytime a conversation or any type of disagreement comes up. For example, if one person is over complaining in Deadchat he will mute the entire Deadchat for most of the remainder of the round. When this happened once or twice, whatever. But when other people are constantly being punished because staff don't realize that they can mute solo people it becomes extremely annoying; I would like this muting the entire channel thing to be reviewed or looked over somehow. People should not be punished because of what others do on as common as it is happening. Evidence/logs/etc: (Currently trying to get logs; will input as I get them.) Additional remarks: Getting muted because one or two people are complaining is annoying. That is why it is possible to mute players and not others.
Voyd2000 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I was here for this and I Methinks he (Garnascus) doesn't want to see people bitching about his poor decisions o.O However, this is a waste of time, I have noticed that nothing ever comes of these posts but long winded back and forth game of he said she said. But I do agree, putting the mute on things when the situation clearly is not properly diffused was a poor choice at the admin level. I still also insist you guys dial back on the whole recruitment drive of new staff and get a handle on your existing group and develop some standards of behavior from them when it comes to dealing with players in a given situation and more so how to properly conduct themselves, Because muting people and essentially telling them to shut up and or dismissing their grievances does not fix the issue or even come close to trying to rectify anything, It just makes matters worse.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Deadchat, by its nature of existence, is a nexus of salt and irritation. OOC is also a fast-moving source of disagreements and arguments. I have it disabled more often than anything else. The best adjustment that could be taken is to change tactics to mute individual people participating in the anger rather than muting the entire channel.
SierraKomodo Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 The best adjustment that could be taken is to change tactics to mute individual people participating in the anger rather than muting the entire channel. I'd have to agree with this. I'd say if necessary, mute the entire channel for a short period as both a warning to everyone to cut the topic, and to give you a moment to mute the correct ckeys, then unmute the channel; Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to do that I don't think. (Common tactic I'd use when dealing with similar situations in IRC)
coolbc2000 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I had a feeling this was coming so i will explain the round. Me and Mirk were two lings looking for stuff to do. He decieds to pick on Jun. I go along with it saying it was a virus, because Jun was transforming. So basicly it ends up in Xenobiology where people are getting there brains taken out and being sucked dry by us. Then it gets cloudy for me. People start throwing salt into LOOC and Some into DeadChat aswell... Then a few minutes later the OCC gets toggled off because people were throwing salt into there aswell. So i support Garn in every way here

Personally, i like to know what im talking about before i claim something. There wasnt any "decisions" made here. Deadchat was muted for excessive ad hominem and aggression that was way over the line, it was muted by aimelessanalyst(jenna) not me. I muted LOOC and then OOC when you guys took the same reasons that deadchat was muted into other chat channels. Deadchat can be a nexus of salt all it wants, you dont have the right to blatantly harrass or attack our players or our staff. Also with the absurd level of chat spam/logs/and ahelps coming in at the time and only two admins being on (one of which was having connection problems) asking us to mute individuals instead is just wholly unreasonable. EDIT. Also discussing issues is fine. In fact i encourage it. You have to understand that you all as players only see a small portion of whats actually going on. as an admin i see ALL chat at all times, all ahelp, all staff PMs all notes/warnings/bans being given. its sometimes almost impossible (or innapropriate) to communicate this to the players. Especially when situations like this happen. TLDR im human, no im not hitler running a power trip when i choose to toggle a chat on/off. i do it rarely for good reason and when i do it i stand by WHY i did it.
Garnascus Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 err....does anyone still care about this :C?
Skull132 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Apparently not. 5 months past due date. Anyways, global mutes have been a thing that we usually do in cases like this. But I think we've also started practicing targeted mutes, so yeah.
