Fortport
BYOND Key: Fortport. Character Names: My characters are Nisha Dokado, Henji Chetou, and Robbie Calhoun. Species you are applying to play: Tajara. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Taupe. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Short answer, not completely. Long answer, I've taken the time to study Hharar physiology and culture. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play with this species for more variety in my role-play. I've played as humans here on Aurora for about a year now, and I'm thirsty for some xeno-flavor. It's been a long time since I've applied for anything here, as well, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. I hope this will be accepted, for more spice to my selection of characters. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The tajaras have different physical traits and culture when compared to humans. They talk differently and have a tendency to roll the "R" sound, as well as their habit of speaking in third-person. Then there's their digitigrade anatomy and exotic alien culture. They're more than "just furries," and that's obvious when you read their backstory and examine how they behave. That's how I think they're different. Character Name: Majith Sak'ha Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Majith Sak'ha, a talented and outstanding tajara of Hharar ethnicity, despite her flaws. She was born on a residential station in a lower-class family consisting of her mother, father, and two sisters. She studied hard and persevered in her early education, showing dedication and intelligence to her peers. It seemed Majith had potential, and a bright future even as a young tajara. When she earned her high school diploma, it seemed time for her to move on in life. Majith stayed at home for a few more months and sorted through college applications, even working a part-time job in the meantime. Majith finally left her home and family at the ripe age of eighteen, enrolling in college and excelling steadily for the time that she was there. She eventually graduated with a master's degree in commerce and was given a job opportunity to work on Aurora. Accepting the offer, she began her professional life as an internal affairs agent. When she became thirty, she was promoted and given the title of "Head of Human Resource Management," given her expertise on the subject. Fast forward five more years to the present, and she's still there, fulfilling her duties. What do you like about this character?: Mainly that she's overcome the stereotype of "uneducated tajaran." She's a good start, and I can use her in a head position from the get-go. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've role-played for eight years, but I'm mostly self-taught. I let others gauge my ability to role-play because my opinion might be biased. Notes: Let me know if this application is trash. I'll take criticism, and fix anything that I can. Xelnagahunter
Why would a mute Tajara be made an HoP? This. Also your only paragraph'd answer was the backstory. You only gave simple sentences for the two previous questions. Aside from mechanic, what makes a Tajara different? Why is it something different to you and what about that difference makes you want to play one? Link to comment
Fortport
Why would a mute Tajara be made an HoP? Fair point. I can cut the handicaps bit out. I also gave longer answers to the other queries. Link to comment
Xelnagahunter
Much better. I know the depth of change wasn' a lot, but it shows a greater articulation and I'm happy. Thanks for making the changes. I'll be paying some extra attention to your characters and I can hopefully give you a +1 soon. Link to comment
Jboy2000000
I know 2/3rds of your characters, and I only have positive things I can say about them. While those two are right that a mute Tajaran HoP might be an odd choice, as they might not be able to sign BSL as well as a human would. However, I like that, that's a concept you thought of. Please don't let this stop you from making different abled characters in the future. I think they add depth to the game, and if done well can do masterful things for roleplay. Link to comment
SierraKomodo
I do have a question reading the backstory. Was she born and raised in Adhomai, or in a human controlled colony (Probably Tau Ceti)? Link to comment
Fortport
I do have a question reading the backstory. Was she born and raised in Adhomai, or in a human controlled colony (Probably Tau Ceti)? Residential space station. Crew consisted mostly of unathi and tajara. Probably a human controlled colony. Synnono
I'm not knowledgeable about Tajaran lore, but this player seems receptive to feedback and has been a memorable personality in the game since I first noticed them. I've been particularly endeared to Nisha Dokado since one of her recent Mutiny round adventures. There's a good mix of cleverness and humor in their writing that I appreciate, and I think that if any lore concerns raised here are straightened out, they'd do the species justice. Edit: I have one thing to ask that popped into my head shortly after posting this: For this character, do you have anything in mind for a central conflict or motivation? The backstory is factually there, but since you stated that you like how this character is more than the uneducated Tajaran stereotype, is there anything in particular that drove her to exceed the expectations placed on her by others? If so, is that motivation still in place today, or has something else replaced it? Link to comment

If so, is that motivation still in place today, or has something else replaced it? It was my answer to that question in the application. Majith, in my mind, is a very determined individual. She's the type of person who organizes her things and plans everything that she does, even if it's a mundane task. Why, though? Why must she be so meticulous? I think she has a lot of pride in herself, that's my short answer. She's risen above the stereotype that, I think, exists in-character and out-of-character. People often make jabs at the species about how they're primitive or etc. I can perfectly picture humans being xenophobic towards the species. Majith might've been deeply bothered by it, but I haven't found out /why/. Was she harassed? Did people tell her she was never going to get anywhere in life? Is she just that sort of person who strives to do something with herself? I'll sort it out, but that's more or less my thoughts. I want her to be passionate still, even in her thirties. I do like how there's some more ambiguous motivations here, it actually makes the character more realistic. not everyone needs a major event or primary motivator in their life. in fact most people don't have said event, most people are average joe's that want to succeed and some try harder than others. I kind of get that feel out of this one and i think it's refreshing. also I've had really good experiences with this player, always pretty fair in security and Robbie Calhoun in the holodeck was just fun. he has my +1 Link to comment

Xelnagahunter
After meeting the player's characters a few times and getting solid interaction at least once, I can definately give this a +1. I feel (s)he has the mindset that would make for a great addition to the Tajaran players on a positive note, which we do need as of late apparently. I look forward to meeting your Tajaran on station some day. Link to comment

Synnono
Just a quick addition - the post asking about your character's motivation was not intended as a criticism I was just looking to learn a bit more about her. Good luck with this! Link to comment
