TrickingTrapster
BYOND Key:TrickingTrapster Character Names:Shalae Aeria, Eva Aeria, Chantal Faers, Lyndis Aevisen, Albert Gizro, Maria Sophis(A.E.P.H.Y.S.), Jack Faers Species you are applying to play:Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Ivory, as according to the page's M'sai usual colorations. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:I have. A bit much to take in, so I may forget one or two points, but I'll leave the page open for reference during RP if needed. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I have seen other people play Tajara and it seemed like fun, but I wanted to make some more experience as a player within different departments. Now that I have six humans and a robot under my belt, I think I'm ready for Tajara. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:The obvious things like speech patterns and Tajara languages, and some mechanical differences. But also the lore difference, as Tajara (are supposed to) get a lot of racism from their human co-workers. I will probably have to keep the different Tajara ethnicities in mind, too. Character Name:Zahia Hal'Ima Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphsBorn on the Tajara home planet of Adhomai, within the capital, Zahia was was born as third child to a relatively rich family. She and her siblings went to the same basic schools, but where her sister went into farming, and her brother into mining, she pursued her career as security cadet in Nanotrasen when she turned old enough for the academy. Being bombarded with racism from her human co-cadets caused social problems for Zahia, and as a result she had to redo one year of her cadetship. However, in the end, she pulled through, and had completed her academic training to be a security officer. She has been working as an officer for three years now, coping with racism here and there, but making friends along the way. While she is the target of racism regularly, Zahia is not one to lash out on verbal abuse. She learned that in the academy. What do you like about this character?I'm pretty excited to try out a new race to play as, as well as having a predetermined disposition. Though I guess that last point is more up to other players and less up to me. I still like having a new, well, "type" to play, as it were. How would you rate your role-playing ability?Taking it from my head of staff app, that still has not changed. I rate myself 7 or 8 out of 10, since I have seen people do it better than me, but also waaay worse. Notes:Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong in this alien whitelist app. While the head of staff whitelist guide is pretty clear how to apply, the alien whitelist leaves some explanation to be desired (from my viewpoint) and I had to look at other alien whitelist apps for examples. moltenkore
I've interacted with most of TrickingTrapster's characters and I can say for sure that they are a great RP'er. Albert Gizro has to be on my list of the most memorable characters I've encountered with Shalae coming a good second. I think they would do great things with a Tajara whitelist, +1 from me. hivefleetchicken
Lyndis Aevisen I have a huge problem with this character. She has a green miku hairstyle and you place a tilde at the end of every sentence she states. Because of the fact that tajara are now the easiest race to make a promiscuous humming lesbianic monstrosity that screams "AH WHAT ARRE YOU A FUCKING RRRRACIST" with, something that you already seemingly have, just in human form, I don't know if I can trust you with the rights to play this race since their background would only encourage more of this cringey (no offense) REALLY BAD character design if unchecked. -1 from me. Filthyfrankster
Green Miku hairstyle LITERALLY GOING AGAINST ALL FUCKING GROOMING CODES AROUND MACHINERY TILDE LITERALLY THE FACT THEY CAN SCREAM "RRRRRRRRRACIST" as a tajara Unless this character can get double checked by Sue -1 so far Link to comment
TrickingTrapster
To clarify the tilde thing, I used it to indicate a singy voice. I have recently been PMed by admins about it, and I had no idea it was prohibited before that. I have stopped using it since. Ask AimlessAnalyst, that's the one that PMed me about it. Link to comment
Guest
I've only really seen Lyndis and AEPHYS, and I can't say the former is really indicative of good character design. Lyndis' flavor text from what I can remember, describes her as 'attractive and busty', and at that point it's a route that I'm going to just refuse to straight up discuss. You playing AEPHYS, well you haven't really done anything outstanding as far as I can tell. Roleplaying a synthetic is rather easy, and it's just as easy to avoid doing it wrong as well. I'm rather neutral, but leaning against supporting this whitelist. I'm unsure you're capable of adhering to the standards that we expect from Tajaran. And even then, there are some offenders of this statement about that have received complaints repeatedly and yet no one is convinced that they've done anyting wrong. Link to comment
Loow
I can't recall interacting with any of Trapster's characters, so I'm just going to work off of this application itself. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion. I'm not essential to your application process and don't have any sway one way or the other. I just want to give feedback. OOC Sections: Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:I have. A bit much to take in, so I may forget one or two points, but I'll leave the page open for reference during RP if needed. It's good that you're willing to reread the lore sections of races you play, but you'll want to try and get as good of an understanding of the Tajara lore as you can before playing one. I recommend reading over it one or three more times if you're so inclined. ...as Tajara (are supposed to) get a lot of racism from their human co-workers. I will probably have to keep the different Tajara ethnicities in mind, too. I like that you acknowledge that the species prejudice is common and pretty much normal, more or less, in this universe. A small but loud amount of Tajarans really give the group a bad rep, at least in my opinion. The Tajaran prejudices between one another are a quite interesting angle also, but that's mostly just used to make a conflict with a noble-born character (which we seem to have very few of). Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong in this alien whitelist app. While the head of staff whitelist guide is pretty clear how to apply, the alien whitelist leaves some explanation to be desired (from my viewpoint) and I had to look at other alien whitelist apps for examples. There's some good people around who could help out. If you have any questions, pop 'em in the thread and they'll probably get talked about. First Paragraph: Born on the Tajara home planet of Adhomai, within the capital, Zahia was was born as third child to a relatively rich family. She and her siblings went to the same basic schools, but where her sister went into farming, and her brother into mining, she pursued her career as security cadet in Nanotrasen when she turned old enough for the academy. Quite good, in my opinion. The character had an average upbringing and went on to pursue a career. Mention of family suggests that you've put some thought into how this character interacts with others. Family is only relatively rich. Could be worse. Not a bad start. Second Paragraph: Being bombarded with racism from her human co-cadets caused social problems for Zahia, and as a result she had to redo one year of her cadetship. However, in the end, she pulled through, and had completed her academic training to be a security officer. She has been working as an officer for three years now, coping with racism here and there, but making friends along the way. While she is the target of racism regularly, Zahia is not one to lash out on verbal abuse. She learned that in the academy. I am a little disappointed. I like the idea that she had to deal with some amount of spec-ist harassment, but still pulled through. However, it seems as if you're making this character first and foremost for the racism aspect. "While she is the target of racism regularly..." You seem a little too fixated on the idea of Tajara prejudices. She would have encountered it, definitely. However, it appears to take up the majority of your character bio. The entirety of the second paragraph (the entirety of your description of her life since leaving home) is about how Zahia is being oppressed. I like the idea of a Tajara working hard and making something of their life, but this character seems to be more centered around "everyone hated me, but i'm still here" than "I've overcome obstacles to make a good living". It's okay for the character to have had a rough go of training and the "making friends" part suggests the potential for some sort of RP outside of the worrying themes. Still. Too many mentioned of the dreaded Tajara prejudice suggests that she's more bitter than the app leads on. "She learned that at the academy." I really like this last sentence. It shows that she did learn some capacity for brushing off prejudice. Still, it feels like this character may be more apt to fixate on being a victim than just move along. The Crowd: I don't know if I can trust you with the rights to play this race since their background would only encourage more of this cringey (no offense) REALLY BAD character design if unchecked. Sadly, this is the case. I want to see more Tajara that have substance. Give us something we can work with. Spend some time RPing characters with a decent amount of depth. I believe anyone can make a good character and can RP them well, but they need people around who are honest enough to give feedback. Lyndis' flavor text from what I can remember, describes her as 'attractive and busty', and at that point it's a route that I'm going to just refuse to straight up discuss. If at all possible, try to avoid describing characters in FT's in ways that come across as overdone or lazy. I'll admit, I'm not good at Flavor Text myself. Either way, descriptors like "busty" send of warning signals OOCly. Players are less apt to expect much from a character with those sort or signals. Albert Gizro has to be on my list of the most memorable characters I've encountered... I'd like to keep an eye out for your characters. If your presentation is good, that would be a notch toward your favor, but it still wouldn't quiet my worries about your character design. Green Miku hairstyle LITERALLY GOING AGAINST ALL FUCKING GROOMING CODES AROUND MACHINERY TILDE LITERALLY THE FACT THEY CAN SCREAM "RRRRRRRRRACIST" as a tajara That's a pretty rough listing of the basic worries with any alien whitelist here, Trapster. Your past characters, RP ability, and character design. Conclusion and Verdict: I can't plus one this application. I've not seen any interactions with Trapster's characters that inspire confidence in the player's ability to RP. I'm very underwhelmed with the character design after they left for the academy. I'm afraid that allowing this character to join the crew's ranks could potentially increase the number of stereotypical "catbeast" happenings. Particularly the "loud" anti-human beliefs and indignant responses to coworker ignorance which at times are witnessed by impressionable players and cause human characters to be more hostile to other Tajara than they may have been previously. I disapprove of this application as it stands. -1. You seem reasonable OOCly, and I recommend that you keep RPing and making progress here and there. I'm willing to keep up a correspondence in this thread and answer any questions you may have. I'm not a bad guy. I'm just a tad critical. Link to comment
TrickingTrapster
So, I see most of these negative comments are based around Lyndis. Allow me to clear up a few things about her. First, the hairstyle. Lyndis is based on a character I made in a personal comic, who was based on Lyndis from Fire Emblem ( http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/0/0c/Lyndis.png/revision/latest?cb=20151014150234 ), hence why she has that hairstyle. Also, she does not ignore hair safety protocols around machinery, she binds her hair into a short braid before operating machinery like that, something that has 0 chance of getting stuck in machinery. Second, the tilde thing. I explained this in an earlier comment, so look it up if you want that explanation. I have a question for you, though: Why are you basing all your gripes on only ONE of my characters? I'm pretty sure I've been playing Albert Gizro for seven rounds in a row now, and one or two as Chantal Faers. I'd like to get some feedback on those. I got Gizro up as CMO, that's got to count for something, right? Link to comment
Guest Menown
I had no idea you played Chantal. That makes sense, because she too is described as having a bouncy chest. Just so you're aware, Tajara don't have visible breasts, other than when females are pregnant/nursing. So I'd probably refrain from being that kawaii if you're accepted. Link to comment
TrickingTrapster
Yes, I'm aware. Me doing that with my human females is something left over from my warcraft 3 RP days. Don't worry, I won't be doing ridiculous things to established racial traits. Link to comment
Shadow
I dislike Lyndis Aevisen. However, that go fixed. I love Gizro, tho. In my opinion, you deserve a chance. +1 from me. Link to comment
Ordessa
RP wise, everything I've seen is good. But the fact that at least two (that I know of) of your characters have flavor texts describing the size of the chesticles, and their viscosity/tendency to bounce, I dunno, it puts me off. If it weren't for the breast thing, I would say you were perfectly suited for a whitelist. What I have seen of Gizro is great, but I don't recognize any other characters. Link to comment
Arvak Morekborn
I've met Gizro a number of times, really like the character. I think he'd do well here. +1 Link to comment
XdwbX
I like Gizro, too. He seems to be more thought-out character with a real personality. Can't say I've had experience with the rest of the cast, though. If he keeps the constructive criticism in mind, I think he'd do fine. Link to comment
Blingx3
Soo... how are you going to play this character excatly, how is her personality going to be ? Link to comment
TrickingTrapster
Well, I imagine her to be somewhat curious to human customs, though reluctant to fully act on that due to her past with racist humans. She won't be quick to jump the gun, but will follow given orders. And she will probably be more open to other Tajara than humans. I'll have to actually play her a round to fully establish it, though I have a pretty good idea of what I want. Link to comment
Blingx3
I'd be intrested to see the character ingame, considiring her background and her story. I really like it and I would definitely love to interact with her. I hope you do get the whitlist. best of luck +009 Link to comment
