Reason for complaint: (I’m going to be posting all of the logs from my side at the end)

When LR joined the round as his Captain, Akero'Ceita Ceeta'Pleat, almost right away, he started antagonizing the AI (Visual Basic. Not sure of the ckey) He said things like,

[Common] Akero'Ceita Ceeta'Pleat says, "If you continue to act disobedient, You will be terminated."

 

Now, this sort of escalation was not warranted. I get it, the AI was being a little bit of a shitter at times during the round but it was a high-stake Merc round. I believe that the reason that LR’s Captain said what he did right then was because the AI made this announcement.

ERT please stop being useless and do your jobs. Rescue the hostages and stop trying to bail out

Not the best choice of words, I get it. But, there is no reason for a Captain, a Skrell at that to act so rash and continuously threaten the AI and claim that it is rebelling. Your Skrell is allowed to be scarred from the Third Incident (Glorsh-Omega) but they likely have gone through plenty of psychiatric exams so he should be stable enough to not flip out whenever an AI is on station with them.

Shortly after that exchange went down, the Captain began arguing over the Command frequency with the AI about having his office locked down due to the Mercenaries claiming that they had a nuclear device and that they would detonate it if we attempted to evacuate the station. Nevertheless, the Captain continued to order the AI to open his office and was insistent on calling an emergency shuttle even though he didn’t take the time to stop and get updated on the situation.

With these logs, you can see that both the Captain and the AI were acting pretty standoffish towards each other. My issue with this again is that the Captain was basically ignoring everyone else and being insistent on ending the round. There were nuke ops, yes. But the ERT was here and the Nuke Ops threatened to completely wipe out the station if we attempted to evacuate.

The AI continued to tell the Captain about the nuke being stolen and that we couldn't risk evacuating (Captain still hasn't really stopped to ask what was going on) and the Captain would say things like this.

Both the AI and the Captain kept antagonizing each other and the Captain continued telling the AI that they shouldn't revolt against their superiors and how he will destroy/eliminate it if it didn't listen. I don't care how scarred your Captain is from the Third Incident. He could've been face to face with Glorsh-Omega but this is severely overreacting while there was a much larger situation going on. Your Captain should be mentally stable enough to put his distrust aside if people are assuring him that it is fine and work to deal with the actual danger. After it is dealt with, by all means. Check the AI's laws. Make sure it is operating appropriately. It was being a little extra aggressive.

This is where my character (Finis Eridau) voiced his concern about the Captain's actions because he really was adding a lot more risk by evacuating the station. I still, OOCly feel that continuing to call the AI a rebel isn't helping.

There are still a lot more logs that are pretty much having me make the same point. I'll put the full logs in a second post. There were some major announcements that pretty much screamed about how the AI was rebelling made by the Captain.

I really don't like making complaints but I've seen this issue coming from LordRaven's Skrell and would like to see his whitelist removed until he can better figure out how to roleplay as a Skrell. I have no issue with him reapplying for it in the future though.

Also, just wanted to note that I am not actually mad about this just want it to be addressed as I don't believe a Skrell should act in this manner.

I was told so many different things that round such as how the AI was tampered with, how there were pirates, how there were men in red hardsuits, I genuinely had no clue what to do in this situation, But I do admit I was hostile to Garn's AI, Due to the fact that it contentiously disobeyed my orders, shut off the bridge power, ( I was told contentiously recalling the shuttle against commands orders, In reality it was the Chief Engineer), And bolting my Captains office, I accept any punishment this Complaint brings against me, As I do admit to being a cunt to Garn's AI, As-well as ignore the life of the hostages, It was shit RP and I agree to whatever punishment will be given to me. Visual basic is my AI. I was only half playing the round honestly, lots of ahelps. Anyway the only problem i have here is every single space squid captain or RD has a prejudice against AI and synthetics. on paper it makes sense and their lore can justify it. Unfortunately its never done well and its usually only used as an excuse to validhunt traitor AIs and malfunctioning AIs. you dont get to threaten and get an attitude with the station AI when you literally just joined and know nothing of the situation. Priorities where great that round.

Anyhoo, besides the order to try and kill me (i would have loved you to try honestly) i didnt really have a problem. The round was a clusterfuck and we all made bad decisions. The nuke op (alberyk) was literally allowed to walk down the hall and steal the nuke while command and us where all arguing. My frustrations against the captain are entirely personal. I dont think this really warrants any punishment besides "hey remember its another player behind that AI, dont be so mean yeah?"

I was in that round. The AI was very casual and un-synthetic about everything, i thought it was malfunctioning too after that announcement.

LR's actions at least were pretty in-character. He may have been aggressive, but he RPed a an agressive skrell pretty well. The AI didn't sound like a machine at all, nor was it apparently following its law to obey orders according to rank. LR Also had the support of the Head of security, and the AI was apparently doorcrushing members of the crew?

Disobeying direct captains orders, insulting the ERT, and recalling the shuttle? Anyone would consider those the actions of a broken AI. Any crewmember doing it would be stripped of their position and brigged. The AI isn't a member of command staff, just because it has command channel access. It's a servant of the crew, not their superior, and not a decision maker unless there's nobody else capable. And it is not immune to consequences for its actions. I personally thought that the raiders had gotten in and subverted the AI, i'd have been fully in support of terminating it

I was here for this round, and can confirm the validity and the context applied to it. While the AI in this particular case was not exactly very elegant in this breakdown and total schism of command, "he started it" does not immediately absolve other instigating parties of any wrongdoing.

Also, the AI cannot recall the shuttle. The CE and Central Command were the ones recalling the shuttle. The AI can only call the shuttle aside from malf, and this round was mercenary.

The captain was absolutely metagaming when they said the AI was subverted. I highly doubt they had a living shred of proof that was the case. Just because the AI is arguing against you, does not mean it is automatically rogue. It took zero actions against the crew, inaction is what it chose in relation to certain orders relating to the emergency shuttle. The AI is not a mindless slave to you, it is a slave bound to its laws based on logic. The AI only serves you when its laws tells it to.

The accusation that the AI was subverted because they disagreed with the captain and refused to carry out an invalid order that countermanded one of their laws, is something I'd expect of a typical comdom on an action server with looser restrictions on antag hunting. The expectation that the AI is to mindless obey every single order they are given without any thought on the AI's part on how they're supposed to roleplay is extremely childish.

I've absolutely had enough of seeing and "cooperating" with command staff like this. I'm getting very much sick of the irresponsibility and idiocy being generated by a select few command players. As command whitelistees, we are held to a greater standard than that of the rest of the playerbase. Especially those of us who have been here for months or even close to a couple years by now. You know the rules, you know the standards, what's the issue of following the line where it is set and doing your part to avoid crossing it when it's unnecessary?

We've made others' conduct the example before. I've been an example before of what happens when a whitelistee fucks up enough and shows no degree of improvement or paradigm shift. Those who have made mistakes and bad decisions and stuck with us long enough have improved in many (or even in a big few, etc.) ways.

So I think what needs to be exercised is that LordRaven in particular be given a whitelist strip and a certain amount of time before they can apply for the whitelist again, that in-between period being a very good interval where they can choose to start taking responsibility for the mistakes they made and applying improvements to themselves and earn their whitelist back.

I can now confirm you had nothing to do with this, The AI Shut off the bridge power, Locked me out of the captains office, Contiously disobeyed my orders, Insulted me in PDA Messages, And used an AI Announcement to personally attack me, Security also reported the AI Shocking doors, Which I do not know if it is true or not, I didn't do this because of "skrell holocaust" You have no clue whats going on and your post proves it.

I also confessed to doing wrong and have accepted a punishment already, 1138, Stop lashing a personal vendetta against me and read things please, I know you enjoy being a person who only likes to stir up trouble, But please refrain from doing so on complaints that have nothing to do with you.

So, I was here for all of this, and I will discuss my bits of it. I don't know how many shuttle recalls were by madmins, but the very first one at around the 40 minutr mark was recalled for game balance reasons. Essentially, it was way too early and the station wasn't nearly close enough to "everyone bail" yet. An ERT was sent instead. Future shuttle recalls may have been madmins, and I think they were, because the justification for the first was that the emergency shuttle was deployed to the NMV Icarus, presumably for its many drone wing issues.

Proceeding to the meat of the matter, now that some clarification has occurred, role-playing distrust of synthetics, especially when given a powerful role like head of staff, is insanely hard. In many situations AIs will be blatantly malfunctional and you have to suddenly start playing abnormally dumb and against your character just to keep the round going. If the AI was PDAing him insulting material, it is very understandable for a character to suspect. All though I was busy researching the new telescience code at the time, it sounded to me like something was up with the AI as well. Does this mean LR roleplayed it properly? No. He did get overzealous with the AI. But he fully recognizes and has humbly admitted his mistake.

For the sake of trying to make this thread be productive, i'll give some tips about how to handle Skrell-Head roleplay in malf/compromised/suspicious AI situations.

1. Go into denial. Even if all the obvious IC warning signs are there and all your human co-workers are telling you to shut it down, just go into denial. "The Fourth Incident? This can't br happening. You're all just paranoid!" If I had a dollar for Everytime a human head of staff came into the RD office to "talk" and then immediately started whispering to me once the door closed that they think somethings up with the AI, I could buy a nice footling steak and cheese sub from subway.

2. Play dumb. Easier to do if you're not in the RD role, but specifically if your information technology skill is low. Just act like you have no situational awareness about the AI's state of being with its programming and code.

3. Be overconfident. So many times during blatantly malf rounds when the jig is up, I tell everyone that I've got it 100% under control, and that a law reset board will fix everything potentially wrong with its code. Then I go use the board and shoo everyone away from the core telling them everything is A-okay. It's a nice way to help AIs regain their incognito cover once they've been detected as having something wrong, and a Skrell assuring everyone it's all right and saying they personally handled it should assuage their fears, while still letting the antag continue its plans without doing anything to actually stop them.

I think a whitelist strip would make him an example, sure, but I question if it's worth it to crucify his whitelist. Is the Skrell-AI tension situation out of control? Do we really have Skrell blowing the AI at any they get? Is this a rampant issue right now? Would making him a public example be to curb a serious and ongoing problem, or warning to a future audience? Aside from some zealotry on my behalf about two months ago, accompanied with the "much gorillion" shtick against Kaed as Lemon, I've seen human heads of staff be disproportionately more distrusting of AIs than Skrell, with many borderline forcing me into AI upload. There was one time an HoS had me lockdown all the borgs and unscrew the console so the AI couldn't unlock them, and boy did I get bwoinked for that. Every once in awhile i'll even get "so and so borg didn't follow an order, blow them up" over command channel. LR seems to have clearly identified and fessed up to his roleplay faux paux. I think a whitelist strip would be heavy handed, and that some advice for how to balance lore vs. gameplay would be a much better service to correct this issue.

After reading this complaint, I can once again chalk another tiff down to "poor communication" between parties involved. From what I can see, there was static between the AI, who was the "cool" synthetic who talks like people, and the captain, who was the "angry" command member frustrated that something was throwing off his groove.

Surface level: These characters should not have had the issues they had and should have instead focused on the possible nuclear issue and hostage situation.

Player level: LR shouldn't have jumped the shark with the "Skrell hate AI, therefore extremism is ok in this case".

Now as for Skrell v Synths. Currently, there's very few incidents that I have seen in which a Skrell overreacted harshly on the synth front. I have however seen quite a bit of overreaction on the part of non-skrell characters. "Your people dislike Synthetics; everything you say about a synthetic is false". It's a hell of a show, but it's not the point.

Garn, you loyal. You likable. You also need to step it up with your AI RP. Just taking the opportunity to say it now. You don't need me telling you this.

LR, you clearly like doing #justskrellthings but you took it too far in this case. You don't need me to explain that to you, and you seem to understand where you went wrong.

Nanako, you were correct about the AI acting "Un-synthetic" and you get a little gold star for that.

Mofo, you're a perfect example of what I consider to be a Skrell RD done right. You're aware of the way things "could look" oocly and you jump through a lot of hoops to avoid valid hunting. Garn makes the case that all Skrell in command are presently done poorly, and it makes me happy that I had at least one case to point to and say "not all of them." You worry about consequences to the point where it looks cumbersome.

However, this raises the issue of "are there just a lot of poorly done skrell that I haven't paid enough mind?"

And this is where I mention Owen. Thank you for bringing this up. Anyone who is worried about how a skrell is being played, feel free to pm me concerns so that I may at least keep an eye out. Or as Owen did, make a complaint.

LordRaven did in fact bring this complaint to my attention as he said he would. He understands where he went wrong. He accepts any punishment he might receive.

This is generally the part where I should say "you're a good guy" and give a verbal warning. As was said previously, stripping a whitelist would be a very "heavy handed" measure to take.

I am partial to the "heavy handed" measure in this case because it effectively is a slap on the wrist.

LR, I know you're capable of doing better.

I'm going to strip your Skrell whitelist. In this case, I feel a wait time of only a week is appropriate before reapplying. When you had minor issues in the past, you reacted very well to feedback. By reapplying, you will be able to see if anyone out there has feedback to give you.

I also want to make something clear to any prospective Skrell command players reading. You can mess up. You can make mistakes. These things happen now and then. Just be willing to take your feedback afterwards and a punishment if you go far too far. These sort of things happen to everyone.

After all, we're only human.

Inaction when ordered to undo what it had already done. That's not inaction at all.

What law exactly did this break? What purpose could be served by locking the captain out of their office?

Anything in it, is better on the captain's person, or moved to a more secure location

There's also the fact that Menss was giving the AI orders over the radio which it seemed to be following, while ignoring orders from a higher ranking officer.

No, not every order. The AI shouldn't let assistants into the vault, or open the armoury for cargo techs. It's supposed to follow orders according to rank. Captian and ERT are the highest ranking personnel available. Unless an order is blatantly stupid ("Murder all the crew") or the captain has been judged insane, or is being impersonated, there's little reason not to follow his orders

The captain is a person chosen from a decade of experience, who passes through a rigorous process of psych and character evaluations. They're the person NT has entrusted the station to. To question their judgement is to presume you know better.

And that's not all, the head of security supported his decisions too. In the middle of a security crisis, the AI was disobeying the combined orders of captain and head of security

And while it was causing this distraction, as previously mentioned, the nukeops got the nuke. And we all got to see the results of the AI's terrible judgement first hand. Everyone died, station destroyed.

The AI, a programmed machine, presumed it knew better than the station's designated command staff, breaking its law to obey orders. And its actions resulted in the station and everyone on it being destroyed, failing three of its four laws.

Anyone could see there was something wrong here, it's disobedient and disrespectful attitude just screamed defective programming. This has nothing to do with skrell-AI RP, anyone of any race would see that AI as broken and want it dealt with.

If you're going to claim he wasn't justfied in wanting to destroy the AI, then you have to justify why it'd lock him out of his office, and how that made sense to continue after the captain arrived

If you want to continue a complaint on Garn's AI then please do so on another thread as I acknowledged that the AI was not good but focused the complaint on LordRaven's character who already had a decision made on them.

Just want to note that the AI had reason to keep the door shut because the Nuke Ops said that they were going to use their nuke on us if we tried to evacuate and someone continued to use the consoles to call the shuttle even though they knew the threat. It was locked in order to keep people from breaking into the office and calling the shuttle (Which people were calling the shuttle a lot before the Captain arrived). The reason that the door continued to stay closed is because the Captain made it known that he wanted to call the shuttle which would've risked all the crew, property and the AI itself so I think it justifies keeping the door closed.
