A Conversation in the Head of Personnel's Office

Hanira Yishu says, "Anyways."

Hanira Yishu asks, "What were we talking about, Manfred?"

Manfred Hayden says, "The morality of xenocide."

Hanira Yishu says, "Ah, yes."

Manfred Hayden says, "My species is more important to my species than your species, and vice versa."

Manfred Hayden says, "Just as you fear an AI wiping out all organic life, I fear an alien species wiping out all human life."

Hanira Yishu says, "Honestly."

Hanira Yishu says, "I really don't think an alien species more powerful then the skrell are gonna appear in this galaxy."

Manfred Hayden says, "Uh huh."

Hanira Yishu says, "A new one."

Manfred Hayden says, "Yishu, why do we have First Contact Protocol."

Hanira Yishu says, "That's for ones equal to or lesser then."

Hanira Yishu says, "If there was a species more powerful, then they would've likely been found or have found us."

Manfred Hayden says, "Look. Skrell are a little ahead. Tajara are a little behind."

Manfred Hayden says, "Unathi are way behind."

Manfred Hayden asks, "But in terms of human history? Twenty thousand years?"

Hanira Yishu says, "Skrell are two hundred years, more or less, then humanity."

Manfred Hayden says, "We're all very, very close."

Hanira Yishu says, "We would've been a thousand, but you know, apocalypse happened."

Manfred Hayden says, "Sure, sure. A thousand years."

Manfred Hayden asks, "How old is this universe?"

Manfred Hayden asks, "This galaxy?"

Hanira Yishu says, "Billions."

Manfred Hayden asks, "Six billion? Five?"

Manfred Hayden says, "In all of those ten thousand ten thousand ten thousands..."

Manfred Hayden asks, "Nothing else popped up?"

Hanira Yishu says, "It's almost astronomical how lucky we were that we began evolution within a few thousand years of each-other."

Manfred Hayden says, "Yes, Yishu."

Manfred Hayden says, "It is."

Manfred Hayden says, "Now how do two sentient species both start breaking out of the stone age at the same time."

Manfred Hayden asks, "Have you seen a field of grass?"

Manfred Hayden says, "Like someone's lawn."

Manfred Hayden says, "Why is all the grass the same height."

Manfred Hayden says, "All species of grass in the lawn."

Hanira Yishu shrugs.

Hanira Yishu says, "I really don't think a precursor species existed."

Manfred Hayden says, "If rye grass grows at one centimeter a week, and fescue at two centimeters a week."

Manfred Hayden says, "How are they both five centimeters long when its been warm out for three months."

Hanira Yishu says, "... Implying a cycle of extermination and re-seeding?;"

Manfred Hayden says, "Strongly, strongly implied. Its simple deduction."

Hanira Yishu asks, "What would they gain by seeding life?"

Manfred Hayden says, "Who said they seed it."

Hanira Yishu says, "If they can creat--"

Manfred Hayden says, "Life just crops up."

Hanira Yishu asks, "Still, what would they gain?"

Manfred Hayden says, "They only mow the lawn when it gets too tall."

Manfred Hayden says, "Well. If you don't mow the lawn, snakes come into your house."

Hanira Yishu says, "Competition."

Manfred Hayden says, "Threats."

Hanira Yishu says, "Or maybe they left the house."

Manfred Hayden says, "Unlikely. We'd have been farther apart."

Manfred Hayden says, "Its unlikely seven or eight thousand cycles of this can pass, but ours is the generation where it stops."

Manfred Hayden says, "So we're just not there yet."

Manfred Hayden says, "We're not tall enough."

Manfred Hayden asks, "Do you know what I was sent out to do in the Espatiers?"

Hanira Yishu says, "No."

Manfred Hayden says, "I'll give you a clue. The cruiser had one thousand thermonuclear re-entry vehicles."

Hanira Yishu says, "I'm... not sure what those are."

Manfred Hayden says, "Bombs."

Manfred Hayden says, "Fifty megatons each."

Manfred Hayden says, "A civilization's worth of nuclear fire, Yishu."

Manfred Hayden says, "For someone we'd never met and didn't care to risk superseding us."

Hanira Yishu says, "That is quite alot of fire power."

Hanira Yishu says, "And your wondering what they might have."

Manfred Hayden says, "We knew they started industrialization when we launched."

Hanira Yishu says, "If we never found any evidence of them, whats to say they dont simpil--"

Hanira Yishu asks, "Who is they?"

Manfred Hayden says, "We detected CO2 levels rising in their atmosphere."

Manfred Hayden says, "They?"

Manfred Hayden says, "Oh, they're around."

Manfred Hayden says, "You see them on the station."

Manfred Hayden says, "Nanotrasen and Bluespace outran us."

Manfred Hayden says, "Three hundred year head start, but sublight travel is slow."

Hanira Yishu nods.

Manfred Hayden says, "And Nanotrasen was broadcasting this ridiculous mishmash of Mandarin Chinese and English..."

Manfred Hayden says, "Which sounded like an alien bastardization of human language."

Manfred Hayden says, "Well."

Hanira Yishu says, "Still pretty confused how humanity didn't universalize there language yet."

Manfred Hayden says, "We were speaking three hundred year old English."

Manfred Hayden says, "Anti-missile systems are pretty good today."

Manfred Hayden says, "So they're not extinct."

Manfred Hayden says, "But we found out why the policy of xenocide was abandoned."

Manfred Hayden says, "With three or four species all nearly the same level of development..."

Manfred Hayden says, "In this corner of the galaxy at least..."

Manfred Hayden says, "The existence of a lawnmower is fairly plausible."

Hanira Yishu asks, "There was a policy of xenocide?"

Manfred Hayden says, "You don't send out a warship without a policy."

Manfred Hayden says, "Sol unified, realized there were multiple species around, and abandoned the policy."

Hanira Yishu says, "If you find a planet with sentient life on it, your likely gonna have to land on that planet."

Manfred Hayden says, "No. Glass it."

Hanira Yishu asks, "...Why?"

Manfred Hayden says, "Because you never know when they'd want to glass you."

Manfred Hayden says, "And maybe you saw them first."

Hanira Yishu says, "Preemptive strikes are horrifying."

Manfred Hayden says, "Consider."

Manfred Hayden says, "What's the alternative."

Hanira Yishu says, "Maybe they would sue for peace instead."

You activate the optical matrix on the Night Vision Goggles.

Manfred Hayden says, "Its a big black galaxy."

You remove the light tube.

You remove the light tube.

You remove the light tube.

You remove the light tube.

You activate the optical matrix on the Night Vision Goggles.

Manfred Hayden asks, "Where are the threats?"

Hanira Yishu says, "Maybe there are none thats organic."

Manfred Hayden asks, "How do you avoid them?"

Hanira Yishu says, "Making sure they're threats in the first place."

Hanira Yishu says, "Once you attempt to exterminate them, they will surely attempt to throw a come back."

Manfred Hayden says, "Can you risk finding the threat."

Manfred Hayden says, "Can you risk them seeing you first."

Manfred Hayden has grabbed Hanira Yishu passively!

Manfred Hayden has grabbed Hanira Yishu aggressively (now hands)!

Manfred Hayden covers Hanira Yishu's mouth!

Manfred Hayden whispers, "Can you?"

Hanira Yishu stares, looking horrified.

Manfred Hayden whispers, "Risk them not being who you thought they were?"

Manfred Hayden whispers, "Risk them being willing to betray you?"

Hanira Yishu begins attempting to wiggle out of there grip.

Manfred Hayden whispers, "Risk them thinking just as you think. That their wives and children aren't as valuable as your own?"

Manfred Hayden puts Hanira Yishu on the glass table.

Hanira Yishu says, "Why-"

Hanira Yishu asks, "Why are you doing this?"

Manfred Hayden asks, "Can you risk them being more developed?"

Manfred Hayden asks, "Being able to see in the big black dark?"

Hanira Yishu says, "Primitive think-"

Manfred Hayden asks, "Having Bluespace?"

Hanira Yishu yells, "Primitive thinking will only lead to primitive responses!"

Manfred Hayden says, "Having the ability to appear from anywhere."

The locker has been unlocked by Hanira Yishu.

Manfred Hayden has grabbed Hanira Yishu passively!

Manfred Hayden has grabbed Hanira Yishu aggressively (now hands)!

Manfred Hayden covers Hanira Yishu's mouth!

Manfred Hayden says, "Hanira."

Manfred Hayden says, "The only choices you have."

Manfred Hayden says, "Are to kill them first."

Manfred Hayden says, "Or never come out of the darkness."

Hanira Yishu blinks.

Manfred Hayden says, "Now calm down."

Hanira Yishu promptly bites Manfred's hand.

Hanira Yishu resists!

Manfred Hayden shouts, "OW!"

You deactivate the optical matrix on the Night Vision Goggles.

Hanira Yishu says, "Christ."

Hanira Yishu says, "You are scary."

Manfred Hayden says, "Relax, please."

The locker has been locked by Hanira Yishu.

Hanira Yishu says, "Please don't grabby."

Manfred Hayden says, "Went for your gun and everything."

Manfred Hayden says, "Sorry, sorry."

Manfred Hayden holds up his hands.

Hanira Yishu says, "I'm not one that can handle being in a bro...bral...fight."

Manfred Hayden says, "No, your species isn't much for fighting."

Manfred Hayden says, "You can't replace the losses."

Manfred Hayden says, "Humanity can. Over-sexualized barbarians we are."

Hanira Yishu says, "Clone commandos."

Manfred Hayden says, "But we'd still prefer if robots did that fight for us."

Manfred Hayden says, "Now, come on. We'll miss our shuttle."

Hanira Yishu says, "Sure."

Manfred Hayden says, "And please. Don't be afraid of me."

Hanira Yishu says, "By the way."

Hanira Yishu says, "Once the genophage is over, skrell will certainly out-populate humanity."

Manfred Hayden asks, "So kill you now?"

Have you read the application rules??: Y

Have you made sure this incident didn't result in administrative action? Y

Why does this moment deserve a spot in the Hall Of Fame?: Its serious, thoughtful, entirely unscripted yet very well paced.

Are you certain we are all laughing together are not shaming someone?: Nobody is laughing.

Final thoughts/anything you want to add?: Roleplaying moments like this are why I play SS13.

Loved it. Not sure if it should be in the hall of fame, though. And having your character be part of an conspiracy to nuke Unathi is a bit far fatched and snowflaky, especially since canon events don't support it.

Posted

True, I was part of it. Bit far-fetched and snowflakey, sure. Might just be the deluded ramblings of a deeply unhappy man trying to make himself more important than he really ever was, so dismiss it if you like. While the Mass Effect gif is nice, this stems more from Star Control 2, Killing Star, and everyone else who did similar concepts before ME. They lack captioned gifs, though.

Cleansing is necessary to ensure our eternal freedom and security.

I loved reading that. I honestly that Hayden was going to reveal something about wanting to kill all the other species and then just snap Hanira's neck or something xD

Posted

Now that was a good read. Very nice conversation, it flowed beautifully.

Despite it being a self-app, it held up well to the high standard I'd personally expect of self-submissions. I'd be for having this to be hall of fame material.

Posted

An interesting situation with Manfred that didn't involve a fucked engine and had minimal inappropriate touching. I enjoyed reading it and would support its addition.

Posted

See, here's something that I think better fits what the hall of fame is supposed to be - It's showcasing an excellent moment of roleplaying as oppose to 'Heres a funny thing that happened have a chuckle'. (Even if there's some questioning of certain details being canon/snowflakey)

Posted

Hey, if the new minimum of inappropriate touching is shoving a married woman on her office table in a dark room, I'm a saint.

really cool, some pretty top tier role-playing if i do say so myself. This conversation reads like a philosophical dialogue and it happened in a 2D spaceman game. I have no problem accepting this into the hall of fame. Its a few days short of the minimum required time but being lord of the hall of fame means i can bend the rules whenever i want. Making it stay in the apps subforum any longer is criminal. Application accepted!
