BYOND Key: Coalf

Character Names:] R.U.R(IPC), Brother Eye (AI), Vol-xuqqix Zao'oqil (Skrell), Dane Huey(Human),

Species you are applying to play: Tajaran

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Cinnamon (RGB 160, 82, 45)

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Simple, as a person of many tastes I have been around the block and have seen quite a few servers with Tajarans as a playable species, they never struck me as something I should be interested in, noble savages trying to get through space with all these meanie humans around ;(.

But here they seem like something that could actually exist, their story is not of noble duty but a bunch of politicians doing what they do best, fucking up as such they have to reap what they've sown.

Plus the general Russian aesthetic Tajarans have on this server draws me to them as I live in a post-communistic country and this PRA business is something I can easily relate to, censorship of books/words/individuals, shooting squads, secret police and the general fear of your neighbor ratting you out each day.

To shorten it, this lore has drawn me to the Tajaran and I want to see how it is to play through the eyes of the species that gets blamed for every single problem on the station.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: First the speed.

No seriously playing a Tajaran seems like a challenge I can tackle, I've never really played anyone who differs THAT much from a humans but Tajarans, well that's something completely different, a Red Menace(PRA) situation where Romanov's (Njarir) managed to survive and make their own state(NKA) up north? Yes please I love me some of that.

Plus the fact that I'll have a chance to actually discuss the situation of Ahdomai and all the Tajaran that came from there ICly is something I am really looking forward to since they're really shy about openly speaking to humans or skrell about their own personal affiliations with the various groups.

Character Name: Al-Afdal Mikheyev

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Short Version:

Afdal's mother was Njarir who managed to run from the PRA troops as they one day managed to push back the line of NKA soldiers near Barj'ar and slaugher her entire Njarir family and her husband. She managed to find her way into the house of a Hharar named Gawahir Mikheyev, a marine biologist with a broken muzzle from a very ugly incident, as a lonely soul he accepted the pregnant Njarir into his house and took her as his wife, to that young Afdal was born a pureblooded Njarir after that other siblings arrived, two brothers, twins both light brown thus Hharar in the eyes of other Tajaran who have likely never seen a Njarir half-blood in their entire lives.

From young age his parents used special coloring dust his father used to detect filth in a small lake where his house was situated, this masked Afdal as brown in color instead of cinnamon thus he could safely attend to a local school that was recently opened, although a bit lacking in teachers atleast it was something and a start for Afdal's academic pursuits. But eventually they were found out and his father was arrested and deported, his mother, brothers and now a little sister no more than year old managed to hide.

After that they made their way to Barj'Ar, his sister didn't take the trip well and died on the way due to malnutrition but the rest of his family made it and for 4 years they lived in relative piece Afdal enjoying the life of a young pureblood Njarir as his mother managed to contact some relatives and acquaintances getting some of her old riches back, thus Afdal turned to being a scholar mostly focusing on poetry, literature(mostly human and skrellian the exotic nature of those dragged him in) and of course, girls.

Eventually in another shelling of Barj'Ar his house was hit and his brother was injured by shrapnel. This made Afdal mad and in a fit of rage he decided not to apply for college and instead join up with a NKA partisan group who planned to sneak disguised behind PRA lines and sabotage the battery that was shelling Barj'ar, once again Afdal had to mask his natural colors and pretend he was a Hharar PRA officer as he was the only one of the group that could read AND write.

The attack went south as they only managed to blow a single battery before being cought, the other two charges didn't detonate and as he saw his brother run back towards Barj'Ar he instead decided to run in the opposite direction changing his PRA officer uniform into a standard grunt uniform on his way through the camp as this would raise less questions.

With the camp and its perimiter now being a hotzone while the PRA searched for him and his partisan friends he decided to walk in the other way instead of going back to Barj'ar, of course in the snowy weather of Ahdomai washed off his improvised brown fur and he had to hide among woods eventually hitching a ride in one of the supply trucks.

There weak and almost frozen an old Njarir/Hharar Tajaran named Kolya met him, Kolya was a halfbreed before this whole war was a thing and thus the PRA had no issue putting a halfbreed into their ranks as at his young age he hated the purebloods as much as any other PRA soldier, but now old and without a family he took in Afdal who had to pose as Mikhesh, Kolya's son who went MIA three years ago.

So Afdal lived with Kolya in Olska for a year before Kolya passed on, dying of dementia.

20 years old, no family to his name and no friends to help him Afdal signed up with NanoTrasen, they didn't ask as many questions and who cared the pay was shitty, as long as he was off this planet.

Afdal is the kind of person who was always told to lie and whenever he came out with truth he was punished by the world, thus he doesn't like to open up to people but is trying to get over his lying and secretive nature, he respects other Njarir and Zhan who have made their way onto Exodus as he knows how much they have to struggle on Ahdomai but holds a personal grudge against the M'sai.

Long version: http://pastebin.com/2KjaCkNN

What do you like about this character? I like how his entire life has pretty much been a secret and a lie, he barely showed other who he really was and when he did life punished him for it, he understands people that lie and knows how much pain truth can bring but even after all that he is trying to improve, to be something more than a lie but an actually proud Njarir'Akhran someone who isn't afraid to show he is part of this, but even on Exodus he can be a bit paranoid.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7 I guess? Can't judge myself others need to judge for me.

Notes: Watch out the long version is long and full of grammatical and spacing mistakes if you find anything wrong with this app please tell me so I can improve or fix it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have poured much more time into the Long story than the short story thus short story is of questionable quality.

Well, Coalf show his proof at being a Warblywarble and a Toaster. Now he's trying to play a Tajaran. And I want to see that to burn him with reasons. He's alway been good at character development.

I want to see that.

Also, something related to that App from my point of view:

In an amazing display of retardation by me I set the pastebin to private instead of unlisted, it should be readable now.

Pyro you just don't understand my point of view.

So, I know Coalf fairly well, I've RP'd with him and interacted with him loads OOC'ly as well. He's a solid roleplayer, I've seen him play RUR and develop her into a symbol of depression, and I've seen him create Vol and be the ultimate dickbag of a frog, and being one of the few Skrell players that actively goes against synthetics, rather than having the same reaction to them as most children do to broccoli. He's put a lot of work into this character (I think, I'm no master of Taj lore, nor am I reading the several thousand backstory), and I believe he will make an excellent Tajaran roleplayer. So ultimately, this is a +1 from me, despite his consistent bad grammar and run-on sentences.

Coalf is a fine roleplayer, and I believe he can be trusted with a tajaran whitelist. The backstory shows that he understands the lore and expectations of the tajaran species as well.

I'm going to give a relatively in-depth response to this application. Firstly, your response to: "Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human" is absolutely fantastic. You're clearly enthused to play the race for its lore, and not for its fur. I'm also excited that it speaks to you as a real world person with connections to the plights and experiences they go through, it's one facet of roleplay which I find exciting when it can sometimes be surprisingly relate-able.

"Afdal signed up with NanoTrasen, they didn't ask as many questions and who cared the pay was shitty"

From what I can tell from NT lore, this is certainly true, and I'm glad someone used it to capitalize on their backstory.

I enjoy the partisan warfare part. And I think being separated from his family and from the rest of the partisan group is interesting as it gives Al-Afdal a lot to think about for his future on station, especially if he reads the news.

The writing of the application isn't perfect, and by that I mean grammatically. It gets confusing at times to read, but I'm mostly here to ascertain your roleplaying capabilities and knowledge of lore, and I think the support you've gotten in this thread is sufficient to vet you as a good roleplayer.

I think this application does a good job of capturing the lore, and I enjoy how he's had to live in fear of the PRA police state for much of his life. His backstory is pretty rich and exciting, and I think he'll make for a very dynamic and fascinating character on the station. You've accumulated plenty of support, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the lore. This application is accepted.
