Guest Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Basically, on some server the Captain has a box of medals from NanoTrasen that he has the authority to hand out to crew after they do good. The medals in our code are: /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal name = "bronze medal" desc = "A bronze medal." icon_state = "bronze" /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/conduct name = "distinguished conduct medal" desc = "A bronze medal awarded for distinguished conduct. Whilst a great honor, this is most basic award given by Nanotrasen. It is often awarded by a captain to a member of their crew." /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/bronze_heart name = "bronze heart medal" desc = "A bronze heart-shaped medal awarded for sacrifice. It is often awarded posthumously or for severe injury in the line of duty." icon_state = "bronze_heart" /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/nobel_science name = "nobel sciences award" desc = "A bronze medal which represents significant contributions to the field of science or engineering." /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/silver name = "silver medal" desc = "A silver medal." icon_state = "silver" /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/silver/valor name = "medal of valor" desc = "A silver medal awarded for acts of exceptional valor." /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/silver/security name = "robust security award" desc = "An award for distinguished combat and sacrifice in defence of Nanotrasen's commercial interests. Often awarded to security staff." /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/gold name = "gold medal" desc = "A prestigious golden medal." icon_state = "gold" /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/gold/captain name = "medal of captaincy" desc = "A golden medal awarded exclusively to those promoted to the rank of captain. It signifies the codified responsibilities of a captain to Nanotrasen, and their undisputable authority over their crew." /obj/item/clothing/accessory/medal/gold/heroism name = "medal of exceptional heroism" desc = "An extremely rare golden medal awarded only by CentComm. To recieve such a medal is the highest honor and as such, very few exist. This medal is almost never awarded to anybody but commanders." I believe these are all good medals that could be given to the Captain to hand out. I've crossed out the Captaincy Medal because it's specifically for Captain's and the Heroism one is from Central. Robust Security and Nobel Science could be renamed to more corporate-efficiency like titles before being added. But yeah, let me reward my crew plz.
VileFault Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 So good, yet so easy! Like, a cross between employee of the month awards and military medals of honor.
The Stryker Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 This sounds great, but we're gonna have to set aside a whole box for bronze hearts. Also, will these function like badges which can be clipped to a jumpsuit?
Shadow Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Yes, they are an item that you can attach to jumpsuits. Admins handed out some medals already. Only issue that I can think about and that I am 99.99% sure will be: a) Captain handing out medals like candy b) People asking to keep the medal permanently, which is actually a legit concern, you got a medal, does it just disappear after the round? Does it get taken away? What happens with it? and maybe c) People bragging about getting medals, le elitist style.
The Stryker Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 What if they require a unanimous command decision or at least majority to prevent them being handed out like candy, with medals like the bronze heart being handed out to injured with medical staff approval. If a medal action is canon, maybe it can go in the records depending on how frequently command hands these out.
HunterRS Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 My idea, have two boxes. Name one Military Badge, and another Employee Badge. And the Employee ones get taken away at Central
Shadow Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Persistent Medals / The medals in records are a big no. If its ever going to be accepted it will only last one round. No canon medals.
Chaznoodles Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Big no-no to persistent medals/medals in records.
Bedshaped Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 This ain't a war station, security aren't soldiers, the Head of Security is not a "commander", civies don't get "medals"... If we were WarStation13 then I'd probably say this was a good idea but right now it's just pointless elitism that will drive away players who aren't part of the established circlejerk.
Fire and Glory Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I like the idea in theory. I feel like it'll end up being really irritating in the end, however. Captain's will give conduct medals to their favorite employee's on a regular basis, some guy will always be receiving a bronze heart or a security robusting medal because people always get injured and security always beats up the antags. My two cents.
Guest Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I mean, we have awards like Shining Star at my walmart... You get a cute little pin. We also have bonuses for being recognized for certain things. I doubt this would breed elitism, you're all just pessimistic.
Shadow Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I prefer the term "realist". But yes, I am fine with it as long as they are not persistent, in any way or form. For one round and one round only. No mentioning "I got a medal last shift!" 400 times. No "Recieved a medal after X." in records and what not.
Wesmas Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 As long as they are in round only, I think we can trust the Captains to treat them sensibly. The heads do have a whitelist, so I think we should trust them.
