witchbells Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 because they've got a screen and that gives off light or at least should
LordFowl Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Attaching constant light to carbon mobs is problematic, especially for such a limited target. A solution I'd prefer is possibly looking into IPC screens overlaying the dark, with transparencies added for effect. Plus it should already handle consistency with face-concealing helmets.
Scheveningen Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Baseline IPCs should spawn with a spriteless item glued to their mask slot. Can't be removed or acided off. Adds object functionality of being able to emit a certain hue of light and then being able to turn it on or off. It'd be a cheap flashlight hack if anything.
Lohikar Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 This could be implemented with minimal effort in the new lighting engine; the main questions are balance and performance. Each time a baseline moves, it would trigger a lighting update on the tiles around it. Lighting updates are fast, but too many at once could cause the server to flip over to the slower (but less laggy) lighting update method.
