[Accepted] Ornias' Head of Staff Application (Take Two, Ladies and Gentlemen)

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Ornias

Character names: Astor Noton, Joie Desai, Pining For The Lost Days, Whispers Of Spoken Steel, Serena Baskett

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Quite a while now, account age is 499 days, but I've only been playing for about half of that.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: It's about time I finally got Head of Staff whitelist - I've wanted to play one for a while, but never got around to writing up an application. Until today ;^)

Why did you come to Aurora?: @ShameOnTurtles and I were looking for a server which appealed more to what I first imagined when I heard about SS13. This was it.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Aye.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role play is playing a part for the enjoyment of everyone. It means that you need to have the responsibility to let others play their part and you play yours, all building into one universe that you all join in. It allows for a story so much more in depth than a single person could write, as each character has such detail put into them.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A head of staff makes sure the station doesn't fall apart - by having a degree of control, they also take on a degree of responsibility to make sure that their department isn't overstepping its bounds and making sure the station is under control.

For example, it's down to the Head of Security to make sure that security officers aren't overly aggressive during arrests, or Research Directors to make sure that dangerous experiments aren't carried out on-station.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, Heads of Staff have to get their jobs done. They have to make sure that their department is on task, and that nobody is doing anything dangerous or stupid. ALL whitelisted players need to show maturity, because they've been granted a position of power which can easily be abused.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Luka Brala

Character age: 46

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Luka Brala is a dedicated and caring man from Akhet, in the Epsilon Eridani system. Originally working up the ranks of accounting and file management for Einstein Engines - more specifically, the Finance and Treasury department, with desire to one day take Lloyd Griffin's place as Chief Financial Officer. Working long shifts of grueling and repetitive work for eight years was well worth the pay that he was making, but he took issue with the way that such affairs were handled. After being contacted by a member of the Nanotrasen staff management team, he took time off to investigate other possible career paths.

His skills, schooling, and experience gave him more than enough options. Feeling withdrawn from accounting and monetary management, and instead drawn to a more personnel-orientated role, he proceeded into a comfortable crew managerial role aboard the NCV Von Braun, where he performed quite optimally. Working for another ten years, he was eventually presented with the opportunity to transfer to the NSS Exodus to work as the stations Head of Personnel, which he eagerly jumped on - higher pay, easier work, and better perks.

There was one immediate disadvantage, however, that being that the NSS Exodus is a phoron research facility. Phoron had nearly put Einstein Engines out of business in 2417, which had put some tough strains on his childhood on Akhet, by taking away the primary source of income the planets provided. Despite these personal greivances, he still was happy to take the job, and hopes to put the past behind him.

Outside of work, he has a great number of hobbies. He plays chess, runs daily, and writes in his spare time. He has been happily married since 2451 with three children in a pleasant home on Tau Ceti, but one day plans on retiring back to Akhet - that is, if it ever improves it's living conditions.

What do you like about this character?:

An Einstein Engines man at heart, with a varied well of experience, he is able to provide new interactions with crew and have knowledge of things outside of Push Button to Terminate.

What do you dislike about this character?:

His "fatherly" tone can be a bit condescending if abused, so I will need to be careful to keep that down when not required. Outside of that, I wouldn't have made the character if I didn't like them.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

Maturity, knowledge, experience. He meets all requirements and will be a good fit for the Exodus.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10. I've improved a lot, and when playing humans, I tend to be very committed to staying in role.

Astor is a genuinely surprising character when it comes to the amount of gestures, roleplaying etiquette, and general feelings/thoughts put into a character. I have only ever seen one or two above the amount of emotional response that Astor Norton portrays in his interpersonal interactions. As much as people harp on him for not being able to work on synthetic units, I believe he is a well-written and well-played character, which speaks volumes for the person Behind the character. +1.

Hit the nail on the head with this, really.

Ornias makes interesting and engaging characters and roleplay situations. With their character Joie Desai, they have united the whole station through their articles and conduct. More recently, Astor is a prime example of them sticking to their character and matching their reaction to the situation.

They are dedicated to improving the roleplay atmosphere around them with almost every action. That said, they do have a tendency to mess around for comedic effect, though I'm sure that will be toned down in these higher responsibility jobs.

I don't see any glaring issues with the application. Here are a couple points that I thought about:

Working long shifts of gruelling and repetitive work for eight years was well worth the pay that he was making, but he took issue with the way that such affairs were handled.

What types of handling issues did he dislike? How did he balance his job with his personal life? How would this affect his conduct on the Exodus?

Overall, a solid +1. I've known Ornias for a long time and believe they are up to the responsibility of the role.

I've only interacted with Ornias' characters across departments, so I don't have any experience working with them and therefore don't know anything about how competent they are. That being said, I've spoken with them a couple of times, and their characters always felt very real to me. I give a +1 for stellar RP.

While i also dont know how mechanically robust his characters are, interactions with them are always as deep as their story is, and they put effort in their roleplay more so than the average joe.

Im sure if they fuck up, they'd atleast roleplay it tastefullly.

+1 from me

This makes me angry on how much you just lied here, this blatant savage lie should not be let go. YOUR ROLEPLAY is at least a 10/10, Don't lie to me.

Now I know who plays Astor who flips his shit when I enter robotics ;^D Anyhow, I like how well put down all of your characters are and how involved you are with robotics and paper work that I am forced pull away from making bombs to blow up the station Sitting in my office and watching YouTube videos to sign some paper for a med bot. I give a strong +1 for you friend, join command for me.
