DatBerry
BYOND Key: DatBerry Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Sandy brown/yellow. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: multiple times. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: slightly unlike the other races, unathi will usually need a strong reason to go to the other end of the universe to work under humans, making each unathi's backstory a bit more vivid somewhat unique while being not too snowflakey, believable and likely to happen. the unathi playerbase are also more likely to bully you for scratching traditions and you will likely end up oppressed if you go guwan. they give the lore a more realistic feel and not just "on paper restrictions". Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: well, in my opinion, some of their priorities are different, while humans worry about their career and their financial issues, I would imagine unathi are more concerned about their honor and clan standing. It's a mindset humans left behind ages ago and puts more social restraints on them. Character Name: Sarr'koh K'ohr (Currently Guwan) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Sarr was the second son of Karr'koh K'ohr, a warrior under one of the hegemony lords and, along with the older brother of Sarr took part in the contact war, earning the clan much honor but losing his eldest son, Barr'koh. which caused the father to be over protective of his second son, Sarr. Having been too young to take part of the contact war, and being sheltered away from the nuclear exchange with his mother. Sarr lived a very overly protective childhood, with very limited contact with other hatchlings of his age, but he enjoyed the stories of the war that his father brought him in the form of letters to his mother, boasting about the battles he's had, but with time, the letters kept mentioning the fighting less and less, till it only mentioned that father was doing well. the contact war is over, Karr has returned home tired of war, his only hopes being in his last child, Sarr, he took every moment he could to train him and teach him his fighting techniques, hoping for him to become a great warrior in the future, but perhaps because Sarr was only 10 at the time, the father did not realize the huge issue his child had. Sarr now in his teenage years, around 16 years old. His father brought him to the clan household to spar with his cousins, there Sarr proved to be a disgrace to his father's name, where he displayed the greatest feats of cowardliness witnessed in the clan's known history, his father refused to look at him, giving him the silent treatment, as he was beaten up by his cousins. After the ordeal, his father continued to ignore him, this continued for two weeks, then; his father came to him, told him that Sarr will be leaving the house, which Sarr didn't completely understand, until his uncle Narr'koh visited with a ticket to tau ceti, where he explained to him that this was all a learning experience and that he will learn more about the other races, but Sarr knew it was to keep him away from the clan after the sparring incident. Now 17, Sarr'koh is on his way into Moghes' orbit in a shuttle, his legs shaking out of fear, determined to gain his standing back. his clan prepared for him to start a security cadetship with Nanotrasen in biesel, away from unathi space where he could taint them more. On his trip, he had stopped in one of the port hub stations in the frontier space outside of Uueoa-Esa, on his way to the next transit shuttle, Sarr was confronted by a gang of zhan tajara, where he was mugged of most of his belongings. being left with no money, Sarr had to beg for a job in the hub he was stuck in, finding a minimum wage job in a fast food chain, Sarr kept saving up money for his trip for the following 3 years. in that time he had managed to become more accustomed to human laws, and more fluent in ceti basic. though due to improved security patrols, there were no more confrontations in his time staying there. now 20 years old, with enough money for a one way trip to Tau Ceti, Sarr had contacted Nanotrasen's security academy to start his courses the next day of his arrival date, eager to start his training and with it his first step to regain his father's acceptance back.. What do you like about this character? He's different than all my other characters when it comes to conflict, i've had all different mixes of passive, aggressive, robust and unrobust, but never a true wuss who hates being so and wants to change it. he's also a different brand of guwan than that we've been having lately, one who still cares about traditions and honor, and strives to gain his clan name back How would you rate your role-playing ability? There's much to improve on Notes: I was going to make a more 'traditional' unathi, but seeing the increased number of non guwans, i opted for a snowflake guwan that goes against the normal guwan archetype Story edited to unguwan the character. Stauto
Did you just counter the counter-counter-culture movement? Bruh. +1 for the story, and I hope to see great things from him! Link to comment
Mwahahahaha
+1 DatBerry's always been quite good fun to RP with their various characters I've encountered throughout my time on the server. Now I admit I haven't read too much into Unathi lore (so bear that in mind) but as someone outside of all that jazz, I would say that this may bring something interesting to the server with different scenarios, potentially. The tie-in with the Zhan-Khazan Tajara encounter after having lived most of their life on Moghes (if I'm not mistaken), for example, could potentially be a minor detail that may play in as a factor — whether significant or mundane — with RP in runtime. Especially as a character enrolled in security. But don't take that from me because I haven't read too much into Tajaran lore either. It's a little snowflakey but I guess that may be somewhat inevitable given the concept of the character, if I may be so bold to say that I refer to the whole notion of the fact that they're a Guwan. But it's not anything OTT and, well, snowflake doesn't necessarily mean bad anyways (...even though it has negative connotations but anyways). I mean it's difficult to draw a line, if at all, with 'snowflake' and vivid, in many cases. I mean, you try going around describing people's lives and history that you know IRL. Nevertheless, I'm sure that DatBerry will be able to handle it appropriately and actually quite well — especially given that they recognise it right there. I think they'll know what they're doing, and I'm sure they'll be rightly open for any other feedback from the community if needed. I think there's some interesting potential for development here; it could introduce further diversity. Don't take my words too into mind because again, I know barely a few in Unathi lore. But to me, this really seems all right. Link to comment
DatBerry
they're snowflakey alright, the idea was to have a guwan who went against the usual guwan stereotype so the whole premise was snowflakey to begin with. the zhan incident was a nudge to that one tajara article about increased zhan crime rates on adhomai, and it would give the character more depth, being suspicious and even outright scared of tajara. Coalf
I'll be honest I hate Rob Oster OOCly completely and hope you kill him as soon as possible. Otherwise you're a decent person and an actually decent roleplayer you clinged to Oster for way too long and I hope you stick to this character for longer than the others. Now, lorewise I can't speak up much, there are no real discrepencies as far as I can see the few things I question are, I mean how did he not notice his father going away on a Guwandi mission? Even while being bullied I think he'd have time to check if his father was alive or something or people would rub it in his face. Also can we eliminate the "snowflakey" thing? That's like "stop being so original" I mean what? I like that Berry actually decided to do something that's completely out of the fucking norm and make a Guwan that actually deserves 100% to be a guwan and acts like a proper Guwan. Duwang. I like it Link to comment

I think it might've not been so obvious, but the time gap was only a few hours of getting kicked and shamed by his clan, cleaning himself and then heading to the clean leader's rec room. hivefleetchicken
Also can we eliminate the "snowflakey" thing? That's like "stop being so original" I mean what? The explanation I can offer you here and now is that there is nothing wrong with being original. There, coincidentally, is no originality in making the same "EXILED BECAUSE HIS PARENTS ARE DEAD AND SO HE PAINTS HIS SKALES BLOOD RED UNTIL THEY ARE AVENGED" as every other server and sonichu has created a million times over. It's not originality we shun; it's making a character that, through its "originality," finds a way to ignore the boundaries of the race entirely. It's nauseatingly disrespectful and offensive to the lore writers who dump hours of work into making a race that people can enjoy playing only to find out that people really just want to play their "original" character from two servers over. With two dicks and flaming tits. In regards to your whitelist, Berru, I think we have enough Guwan on the ship. Lord knows I don't need any more injunctions for giving those filthy baby-eating exiles noogies, swirlies, and locker slams as they go along their shameless ways. I know you put a lot of work into constructing a character that was believable, tasteful and still original, and I think that's a beautiful idea. However, call me a powergamer if you must, if I see another Guwan trying to act like he's on the same level as me just because we're at a human rodeo, I'm gonna' lose my fucking character to CCIAs for the damage I'll do to him. So I can't really endorse you playing one unless he's done very well. ('Im mostly joking but I do wanna make sure you can do it right before I commit to this relationship) EDIT: HI I HAD A NICE TALK WITH BERRY THAT INVOLVED ZERO GUWAN ON IPC SHELL NURSE ERP and I've decided that DatBerry has actually a really good idea of how to play an honorless exile that's still an Unathi. Hes got my support! Link to comment
NoahKirchner
I am not overly knowledgeable in Unathi lore so I can't really say anything about it, but as far as RP goes, I've interacted with some of the characters that he's listed in his application but it has mostly been Rob. Despite the memey nature of the character, and bar one time where he used a crossbow after the station went to shit, Rob has been roleplayed very well. He is a believable character, even (Despite the OOC memes at play, him being a baldie assistant named roboster and all), and I often see him actually assisting as opposed to running around being a nuisance like other assistants. He's also very knowledgeable on Aurora stuff in general, and seeing as how his ability to roleplay an Unathi (and a Guwan, specifically), was addressed above favorably, I dont have a doubt in my mind that he would be a good Unathi (as little as it means :V). Good luck, yo. +1 Link to comment
AllyBearsley
Okay, lemme be real here. I actually started to like Rob as you worked on making him more of a legit person. I think I got here shortly after you started working on him being less of a meme and more of a person to try subverting the meme or whatever. Still I had some alright interactions with Rob and he seemed to be a person. As for your Unathi, everything checks out. Although it seems a little extreme for so much to happen over just one sparring incident. Like not impossible by any means, extreme things happen, just it does seem to be pushing things a little. I get it's the clan sparring match, is it like a competition for the clan? That would make it seem perfectly fine in my opinion. So many seeing your son be a complete coward in a competition for honour, yeah Guwandi and Guwan he. Besides that, I kind of love the backstory. The mugging, having to work at a fast food place, and the emphasis on the one way trip is good. I like what I've seen from your RP, OOC you seem like an alright guy. + 1 Link to comment
Superiorform
I don't really see what is snwoflakey about this, other than perhaps the father going guwandi on the spot, which seems a bit... excessive. But... fucking yes - a guwan who actually deserved to be guwan and won't just be pitied and befriended. He can be hated, he can be loved... I can't wait. OOCly, DatBerry is excellent, but I can't really say much ICly, because I hardly interact with his characters. That said, the few interactions I have had are positive, and Oster is an actually helpful assistant. +1 Link to comment

But... +1 also hinted in the story, the father gave up on everything but his son after the war, he was the only thing keeping him going, and seeing he raised him into a pussy ass bitch destroyed the little things that were left. Guest Marlon Phoenix
I have told every applicant presenting a Guwan character that it is very challenging. Because a Guwan inherently goes against every aspect of the standard Unathi, it is much harder to prove - and for me to see - that the applicant has a solid grasp of the species to subvert it properly. I have been discussing the possibility of outright barring people from applying with Guwan, but since no such rule exists atm I am going to treat this application on its own merits. With that said, I do have comments on the application. Sarr now in his teenage years, around 16 years old. His father brought him to the clan household to spar with his cousins, there Sarr proved to be a disgrace to his father's name, where he displayed the greatest feats of cowardliness witnessed in the clan's known history, his father shocked, declared himself guwandi on the spot and departed to the wasteland, something Sarr did not notice due to the overwhelming harassment he was receiving from his clan. I do not understand what happened here. Relative to a human, a father took his son to wrestling practice, and the son preformed so poorly against the other teenage wrestlers that the father immediately resolved to abandon the family and kill himself. Why would he do that? Unathi do not go Guwandi over their kids being disappointing in informal sparring matches; Guwandi are Unathi who feel their only method of redeeming themselves is through death in battle. Why did the father not try to train Sarr better, try to smack him around, or do anything else except ritualistic suicide? I was going to make a more 'traditional' unathi, but seeing the increased number of non guwans, i opted for a snowflake guwan that goes against the normal guwan archetype You say that you want a Guwan that doesn't act like a Guwan. Sarr is a Guwan that behaves like a traditional Unathi. That does not make much sense to me. Guwan as a concept allows Unathi players to have the "benefit" of playing a subversive Unathi that does not act within lore behaviors with the "cost" of having to be part of an untouchable caste. If you are Guwan it means you or I chose that your Unathi is so much of an outcast that they are worthy of being made into a black sheep. A Guwan that just behaves like a regular Unathi is a little silly, because it's subverting the subversion. If Sarr wasn't a Guwan then the application would be much stronger for it, because you present a Unathi struggling with consistent themes of trying to overcome his very natural anxiety in order to retain his sense of honor and not shame himself or his family. If he's a Guwan, that means he failed. To be Guwan means you are the dirt beneath the bottom rung of the social ladder; you are LOCKED into Guwanship IC and OOC. Players sometimes ask if their Guwan can regain their old clan name and stop being a Guwan, and I've only allowed it to happen once. And that one time was after a very long time of the character's personality changing and not being allowed to play on-station for about 2 weeks to simulate extensive court battles about it. Despite the negative points I listed above, your positive feedback is enough to keep me from rejecting the application. Instead I'm going to say that if you edit it to apply with Sarr with his regular name, and not play him as a Guwan, I can accept it on its own merit at that point. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
I've seen your edits and they've satisfied all the red flags with the app, so application accepted! Link to comment
