Rhicora Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 (edited) One of the greatest things about the original secret gamemode was the possibility of extended. The station honestly didn't know whether there would be bad guys, so if you were an antag it was impossible for the rest of the station to metagame your presence. This allowed for some wonderful stealthy plays; while everyone else went around assuming it was a normal shift, you could blend in and quietly accomplish your agenda. As an unfortunate side effect of the new mixed-secret gamemode, there is now only a 5% or so chance of a round without antags. It's no coincidence that we've see a trend towards antags who go in loud; these days, they know we know they're coming. To bring back stealthy antag roleplay, I'm proud to propose Spicy Extended ("sextended" on the menu): - Extended (50%) - Traitor (25%) - Autotraitor (25%) Sweet, simple, straightforward. Maybe there are bad people aboard, maybe there aren't. I've left out classically loud antags like changeling, mercenary, wizard, ninja etc who tend to be found out on a meta level fairly early. This round type is really about people doing bad stuff in secret and then blending in with the rest of the crew again. It won't replace secret, but if you'd vote for it, leave a note below saying so - or let me know if you have any suggestions for how to tweak it to make it better! Edited November 29, 2017 by Guest
Alberyk Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 No, we already have secret, and I see no point in a gamemode that does the same thing, with the only differences being a high chance of extended and less antags options. +1 dismissal.
LordBalkara Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 If your whole issue is that too many people know secret isn't extended, then why not suggest extended have a higher chance of occuring? Even a 10-15% chance of extended might be enough to make people start assuming the more quiet rounds are just extended.

The goal behind this is uncertainty; under the current secret we have a really high certainty that an antag exists, and I think non-antags do play to that. Increasing the chance of extended in secret would be one way to fix the issue. The reason I proposed a separate gamemode is because players may want to decide whether they're in the mood for a quiet round vs. a loud one. Secret provides the latter, and I don't want to take that away from anyone if they prefer it. Let the voters decide.
Pacmandevil Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Extended is inherently a shitty gamemode, and if I had to guess, one of the least liked of the community. I can't see any actual benefit to adding this, asides from making 50% of the rounds tooth grindingly boring.

"Shitty gamemode" is subjective, and it seems like plenty of people disagree with you.

Of that - only 4 were extended. less than 10% And it might be good to add that Secret also includes Extended, so realistically I'd say about one of those was from a secret roll. so if we do some simple math: you get a whopping 7% of rounds being a voted extended. and people likely vote for extended because it HAS every other gamemode. And I could make the argument that extended being shitty ISNT subjective. but I digress.
Rhicora Posted November 29, 2017 Author Posted November 29, 2017 This chart is not meaningful information, because the vast majority of the above roundtypes actually come from Secret. If you have data on voting (versus eventual roundtype) I'd be happy to see it. In my experience, people tend to vote for Secret most often, and Extended second-most.
alexpkeaton Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I prefer antag rounds. But, let's face it: since the merger of secret and mixed secret the votes have nearly always gone for secret. It would be only fair to provide an alternative mix to split the vote, if nothing else. I believe the current secret should be preserved and a "Diet Secret", much like what the OP proposed, could be the alternative. Let me be clear: I will always vote for the current secret. I just believe the extendongs should be thrown a bone in the vote that has a chance of passing. Adding a coin-flip's chance of traitors might be just enough to do that. +1

I think the current balance we have is good enough, and satisfies both parties.

I find extended to be every 7 rounds or so, I personally do not mind extended as i enjoy the roleplay i do at my department and enough injured come to the medbay regardless of round type to keep us occupied. I do not think we can have the "extended rounds are cannon" rule if we mix minor antag things into it. I am willing to admit i have not played on Aurora long enough to be willing to actually wish to make an impact on what the different round modifiers are, but i enjoy extended how it is now. On another note i wished Cortial Borers were more implemented, but as said we have other problems and from what i see, the Github is filling up as it is and we might want to calm down with major changes untill at least all the major problems are solved. Just my two cents though, server is awesome and i will not fight against the change, nor will i fight for it. -Sebbe
LordFowl Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Voting for dismissal. Coding in new ways of dividing up the gamemodes is nothing more than a patch job to conceal the fact that the server sucks. Binning.
