Activeknockback
BYOND key: Activeknockback Character names: Alexander McShain, Damian McShain, Arthur McShain, William McShain, Lance McShain, Connor McShain, Daniel McShain, O.D.I.S. [GARD] Thomas McShain, Jason McShain How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I think it is close to a year, possibly more. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I am more then proficient as an engineer, I have specialized in the game as a station engineer, and know most of the station like the back of my hand. Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend pointed it out and have enjoyed the player base adn RP since arriving to the server. I find it more enjoyable then most other servers because the active admins that make sure the players also follow rules and are helpful when asked for it. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have read all the rules, and have them open while I am making this to verify everything is made properly. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay by definition is playing a role, almost like acting in a sense, but in practice it is different. To myself, it is about having fun while pretended for a while in a fun atmosphere where things are mostly friendly and a plethora of emotions can be felt and even enjoyed for others. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The purpose of a Head of Staff OOCly to me is meant to help the newer players, those who may be trying the department for the first or even the fifth time learn the game and how it works. I think this is the responsibility of more then just the heads of staff however, but that of any veteran players who know enough about the system as well. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibility of the Heads of Staff I think are as stated previously, where they are mentors and help to the new people who may be joining the server for the first time. They also generate direction and RP for the departments both OOCly and ICly where. Whitelisted specifically is to make sure the rules are maintained to a degree. Getting an admin/Moderator to handle matters is the b Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Alexander McShain Character age: 36 Years Old Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Alexander was born to William and Bertha McShain. Bertha died in childbirth, and so he has had a particularly close relationship with his father. Eventually, his father remarried to a woman that Alexander had little care for, but his father was happy thus he would be quiet about his lack of emotion for it. They lived aboard a ship for most all of his life, helping do wires, repairs, and other things that would be easier for a child to do with their smaller size. He has always found it fascinating how all of the parts fit together and came apart. He spent most of his time as a youngster tinkering with robotics or other devices with his younger brother Connor. His father had seen the potential in Alexander, as he aged, so did his talents and curiosity. Being the oldest of his generation, he had a couple of perks he had used growing up, some would even help later to some minor degree. One of these though is EVA training from an uncle who had been disowned by the family after a feud almost turned violent. When he was out in the voidsuit, it was uncomfortable for the suit, but the quiet working environment was something that he appreciated. Living on the ship, he moved around a lot. He had met different cultures of humans, met many Tajarans, and even a couple Unathi. This gave him an open view of the races, with which he sees people for the work they do, not their race. As a teenager prior to college, he offered to patch any holes the ship may have gotten for whatever reason, be it a broken window or hull. He was always told to be careful, as "it is a lot harder to repair something that is not broken" which never made any sense to him, but he hoped the answer would be reveled when he was ready, but to this day he has no idea what it means. All of the people on the ship were required to learn basic first aid as well, starting their teachings at age Ten (10) He spent his life like this, until the age of seventeen, where he enrolled into Ceres University to get a Masters in Engineering. After Graduating, he went back home to the ship he had always known. Only in the time he had been away, large portions of the ship had fallen to disuse and almost repairable means. He made use of his Masters and repaired what he could, though there were still some sections he could not do. After he had repaired the ship, he taught what inhabitants were left how to maintain the more advanced systems that had almost failed while he had been away. When it was said and done, the ship functioned better. It at least held together now without leaking the O2 into space. He knew he would need credits to keep the ship operational now, and so he took a contract with NT in order to help support his family, extended family and his home. After working with NT for about Eleven (11) years, he had saved up enough to start his work back to schooling and started on his PhD in Engineering. It took him up until recently to finish his Doctorate, and in doing so looked to NT for any positions that a Chief Engineer Opening Might be viable for his to acquire. What do you like about this character?: Alexander in particular has a cool head, and is not scared of the vacuum of space, he is open when he says if something about his inability to do something, and is not afraid to ask for help in doing so. He knows to follow orders when given, but he may disagree with them. What do you dislike about this character?: If someone makes him blow his top, he will walk away or risks punching them square in the nose if they act without reason. He is vocal when he thinks someone is being stupid or is taking an unneeded risk to themselves or the station. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He is experienced with most of the ins-and-outs of the stations. He takes his time to look over the blueprints to be able to respond with speed and precis on. His calm head has helped him save stations from what would effectively ripping in half because of his fast work. He knows the priorities of the Station and Crew are the most important and cares very much about safety on the job. He is also eager to help the younger members and apprentices of the station learn their new fields, and has an honest joy out of seeing his fellows succeed. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7-8/10, while hoping to be a 9/10 Extra notes: Thank you for the read, and I hope the detail on the bio was deep enough. tbear13
So uh.. you have nine characters from the same family on the station? That's.. unlikely, to say the least. Link to comment
Activeknockback
I honestly suck at names, and it gave a simple solution along with an interesting way to have an idea with different backstories. I read over the rules, and there was no mention anywhere against it either, so I ran with it. Each character from the family all have their own things, opinions, and attitudes. They are related, yes, but they are each individual characters. Link to comment
tbear13
I'd like to see more detail in the backstory, personally. The backstory is essentially "He got a degree, he done fixed that ship, now he's here." I like the rest of the application, but there's just nothing to the backstory. Link to comment
Faris
I've never been able to tell the difference between your characters, at times I've wanted to contact you for job hopping only to see that they are different characters. Link to comment
AmoryBlaine
I'm bothered by the amount of family members working for NT. And I can't recall any particular instances where I've had issues with your characters, but I can recall instances. The names are helping to confuse me. Link to comment
