Arrow768 Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) Ckey/BYOND Username: Arrow768 Position Being Applied For: Deputy Lore Developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: Well, I was one of the wiki admins for our corporate wiki (used for technical system documentations and user documentations alike) until I´ve lead the migration to a different wiki that was easier to edit and had more features so I´d say I have a pretty decent mediawiki knowledge. Examples of Past Work: A few minor things that Jackboot asked me for, but I am not sure if anything came out of it. Aside of that I cant provide any public references since most of the docs I have worked on are contained in a internal corporate wiki. Additional Comments: Since I have a technical background, I try to write lore that is believable and makes sense with our known physical laws. My objective as lore deputy is to develop the corporate espionage side of our lore. Even today there is corporate espionage going on, so it would make much sense for it to also occur in 2460 especially with NT being the megacorp it is. Edited January 8, 2018 by Guest
Zundy Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I'll be preparing some questions for you shortly (I.E in around 9 hours) so watch this space.
Zundy Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Some questions, please answer them as best as you can: I'll be expecting regular weekly lore developments and weekly team meetings (likely voiced) via discord. Is this alright with you? Let's say on your first day on the job I give you free reign to alter any human or corporate lore as you see fit. What would you focus on, change and why? Let's say you there was an aspect of the lore which you really loved and Jackboot and I wished to remove it or alter it beyond a point that you would accept. After you give us your heartfelt plea we still proceed to remove or alter in a manner that appears unfair to you. How would you react to this and why? You're working on an aspect of lore development when you unknowingly overstep and alter another species lore. The species lore dev confronts you on discord and begins to aggressively reprimand you beyond your idea of fairness and respect (they're being far too aggressive). Unfortunately I'm not online to offer support, what do you do and why? I task you and another deputy with an area of lore development, during which you and the other deputy enter a heated debate. Your colleague decides to overrule you and in essence spark an edit war on the wiki and a minor flame war across public lore chat. Jackboot and I are unreachable for whatever reason. How do you deal with this and why? Whilst a deputy a player you quite like and consider a friend beings to PM you with ideas for lore changes, some of which appear to favour his characters and player friends. What do you do and why? A player begins to openly and aggressively mock a member of the lore team on public discord channels. They are not being constructive. What do you do and why?
Arrow768 Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Some questions, please answer them as best as you can: I'll be expecting regular weekly lore developments and weekly team meetings (likely voiced) via discord. Is this alright with you? Voiced will be a bit of a difficulty since I only have a headset at home and not at the university. Let's say on your first day on the job I give you free reign to alter any human or corporate lore as you see fit. What would you focus on, change and why? As explained in the initial post, I would start working on fleshing out the relations between NT and other megacorps. Which ones are working together one some projects, which are targeting the same markets with the same products, ... All in preparation for further updates that will lead down a corporate espionage path Let's say you there was an aspect of the lore which you really loved and Jackboot and I wished to remove it or alter it beyond a point that you would accept. After you give us your heartfelt plea we still proceed to remove or alter in a manner that appears unfair to you. How would you react to this and why? As I´ve worked in a corporate environment, I am familiar with decisions being made on another level for certain reasons. I would present the facts as good as I can, but ultimately if the loremaster or human lore dev decides to remove something. Its his call. Before something relevant goes live it should go through a approval process where all the relevant stakeholders can voice their opinion and put a stop to it. Assuming that relevant process has been followed prior to the alteration and the species lore dev just failed to respond in a timely manner, I would remind them of that fact and try to work with them to resolve the issue at hand. If they are still going to far, I will escalate it via the proper channels. Loremaster and if he is unavailable aswell then the headdev. But knowing the current staff team I cant think of a single person on the lore team that would require me to escalate it to their superior. Withdraw and wait for jackboot our you to become available. There is no point in a edit war / flame war on public channels. If there are heated debates about a subject they should be resolved internally. Whilst a deputy a player you quite like and consider a friend beings to PM you with ideas for lore changes, some of which appear to favour his characters and player friends. What do you do and why? Present it on the lore dev channel for others to weigh in. Thats where the aforementioned process comes in. Every release / change should be discussed with the relevant personell. It´s always good to have more than one opinion on a specific topic. A player begins to openly and aggressively mock a member of the lore team on public discord channels. They are not being constructive. What do you do and why? If the relevant member is not aware of it, alert them to it. (They should have the option to take a look at what has been said and then decide if they want to handle it or let mods/mins take care of it) If they are unavailable, alert the mods to it. (Rule 2 on the discord: Dont be a dick) Edit1: Since its almost midnight here and since I dont have much time right now there will be a few spelling mistakes included.
Bygonehero Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 My work with Arrow is ongoing, we have debated the finer points of spaceman economics and how to integrate them into the game. He is unique amongst individuals because of his ability to recognize the mechanics that could exist, in the lore that does exist and makes those mechanics a reality. I can think of no better person that could expose and re-enforce the lore to a larger audience, even those not particularly interested in lore.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Hello! After conferring with Zundy we are declining this application at this time. If we open more slots in the future I really hope you reapply!
