How long have you been playing on Aurora?:

This Sunday will have been 5 weeks.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:

My reasons for wanting to be on the whitelist is a twofold one. First, of course as I’ll detail below, I thoroughly enjoy role play and the environment that Aurora provides, and wish to do my own part to contribute a greater piece to that. Second, I’ll confess a selfish reason in that I thoroughly enjoy supervisor rp, and on servers past found the most enjoyment in Command.

Why did you come to Aurora?:

Having only been playing ss13 for about 4 months, I had bounced around servers for some time. After having left Paradise for becoming frustrated with the lack of roleplay. I joined Aurora and found a very comfortable spot where the amusement of ss13’s ‘action’ is blended with actual roleplay. And no clowns, very important.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:

I have, fully and completely. And by extent realize that some characters are disqualified from being heads of staff.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Shortly put; Fun. With any recreation or game, the purpose is to have fun. Roleplay is no different. Roleplay is about weaving a narrative that allows each player to fulfill a role they would otherwise be unable to. RP should let players develop their characters while interacting with others to create an environment where everyone is dedicated to the same goal. Most importantly, roleplay when done very correctly, simulates emotions to the player. They feel the excitement, frustration, accomplishment, and failure that their character does.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

The OOC purpose discussed a bit more in depth below is to model ideal roleplay, and stimulate the round by providing OOC guidance to the players in their staffs, and guide the station towards.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

Whitelisted players have a responsibility to uphold and stimulate the roleplay environment to their fellow players.[see What is RP? Above]. Heads of staff should model the ideal roleplay mindset, of fun before mechanics. Heads often are the guiding hand on the roleplay of each round, and it should be their dedication to make every single round interesting and entertaining for the players. No one enjoys a round that ends in 2 seconds because the mindset is ‘win the round’. No one wins of they are bored. So I shall strive to both play the character and act accordingly to how every player should see the roleplay standard being, and will remain conscious of the OOC need to keep the round interesting and temper my actions with this need. Even moreso, I understand that Heads are to serve as both IC and OOC mentors to the players in their staff, and shall do my best to be available to help new and developing players should they need it. In addition, with the simple mechanics of the game, I know that rounds can be ended quickly, so will take care to not ‘rush’ a win and instead favor roleplay and building interesting stories.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Casimir Fontaine

Character age: 36

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Born on Luna to a university professor and writer/author, Casimir received a very average upbringing. Taking an early interest in the local flashy Lunar Police, he dedicated his late child hood and early adulthood to becoming a Police Officer, moving to Earth where he enrolled at a medium local college, obtaining a Masters in Criminal Justice, with minors in Public Management and Investigative Sciences. Eager to fulfill his dream at the age of 25, Casimir moved back to Luna and accepted a job as a Security Officer for a correctional facility, where he remained for just a year, before resigning.

Following his employment at the corrections facility, Casimir came to the decision that public service was not his style; the pay, hours, and disposition leaving much to desire. He instead turned to private employment, gaining a contract as an Asset Protection Agent for Necropolis Industries on a small Earth Sub-Office, eventually also being given charge of the Investigative Service for the location(Of Which he was the only member). After 2 years of service, he was drawn to Nanotrasen through their promising benefits and lack of widespread public distrust. He resigned his position at Necropolis, and accepted a new position on the research station N.S.S. Aurora

What do you like about this character?:

I enjoy the social aspects of this character and their objective morality. Casimir lives and thrives through interacting with other people, and prides himself on being a kind soul. Even on those he has to investigate, he sets on a terse, but respectful attitude. He also, having experienced both benevolent and malice-laced enforcement is skeptical of every authority. While he adheres to the regulations he is aware of the capacity for people to loophole and abuse the system for their own gain. I enjoy this because the orders he carries out are both out of loyalty, and because he believes in their morality.

What do you dislike about this character?:

What I dislike about this character is the extremes of his irritability. Should he perceive that a coworker is underperforming or making poor decisions, he has a tendency to snap at them quickly. This causes some friction when it is discovered later that the latter was acting correctly, and just didn’t appear to be. I also disliked while during his detective tenure, he frequently employs flirting or affectations to attempt to build rapport as I out-of-character don’t enjoy RPing that.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

Casimir has had experience in both the public and corporate world, and thus brings both viewpoints to his performance. This prepares him to not only execute his assignment, but to also do so with respect to outside scrutiny, since he knows appearances(especially in enforcement) are half the battle. He also, being a socialite, recognizes the need for communication and direction; having had supervisors that had little contact he’s seen firsthand the consequences. From a corporate perspective, he is also a younger candidate that has the capability to serve for an extended time.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

I would rate myself a 7/10. Having come from seriousrp on other games, my grammatical and character development skills I believe were fairly refined. However, when first moving to SS13 I struggled to absume all of the lore and environment, and that bit of learning delay disrupted my initial roleplay skills. I especially initially struggled with the concept of playing to rp, instead of to win, having to be corrected a couple times. Having learned from mistakes, I believe this has improved, but I know there is always room for further improvement.

Extra notes:

I also acknowledge the simple fact that not all characters are created equal, nor performed equal. Knowing this, I understand that if permitted the whitelist, I am not automatically prepared for every head role, and understand that each need to be built up to.

I'm generally pretty skeptical of anyone applying for a whitelist who hasn't been here for very long, but I've seen Lemskr in action and I haven't seen any big problems. I really like your section on OOC responsibility. I think you could do well. +1 from me.

Thank you for the feedback, OOC responsibility I think is one of the most important and player reaching, so it needed to be stressed.

Look I don’t mean to be a dick, but I don’t personally think that 5 weeks is enough playtime to be a head. The Head app is only half the equation. No one is going to take you seriously without a suitable amount of people with positive tabs on you.

Don't blame the skepticism. Should that be the communities decision, I'd do my best to make a more prominent 'splash' to become more familiar as I accrued more time. However, I believe that though comparitively I'm new, I still have a decent feel for the needs and requirements of command.
