[Accepted] Elliot's Head of Staff Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Elliot123

Character names: Elliot Proctor, Sophi Taka, Sophie Dre, Lewis Black, Thomas Proctor, Ross Ireland. (I also sometimes play AI and pAI. But not enough to be note worthy.)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Can't be one hundred percent sure, but I'd say maybe half a year? Give or take.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Personally I'd love to join the whitelist to open up more RP opportunities and try out new roles that I previously wouldn't have been able to choose. I feel it would also help improve my RP further and enable me to explore things in further depth.

Why did you come to Aurora?: Aurora was my first server that I chose. Honestly at the time I chose it due to it being in-between the high and low population servers, it allowed me to learn the game and explore the lore. However in my initial days, I did play on others. The reason I stayed at Aurora was simply the community. I wasn't ridiculed or ignored due to being new. The community allowed me to learn at my own pace and helped me out along the way. I also really enjoyed having believable characters and the higher level RP that came with them compared to other servers.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-playing, in essence, is playing a role. You have to adopt a character or persona within a setting. Yours, and others, character's then add to the idea of an overarching story. Characters, due to this, have to be almost real in a sense, leaving them believable and making them easy to fit into the general narrative of the universe the story takes place in. An example of this would be taking into account your character's obligations, beliefs and ideals when taking actions and interacting with the world and the other characters within it. This has to be done regardless of the player's obligations, beliefs and so on. For example a player may want to tackle a hostile and fight them in combat, however if they are playing a character who is for instance a pacifist this may be difficult for the character to bring themselves to do. This means learning to separate your own thoughts and your characters'. Just as you must learn to separate your personal and your characters' emotions, thoughts and so on, you must also consider what satisfies or enriches the narrative and not just your own experience. An example of this would be negotiating and allowing mercenaries aboard the station instead of just blasting them into pieces on sight. It's no fun for anyone but you if you open fire killing all the antags in the first ten minutes of a round. Other people's experience has to be considered and moreover the global narrative and theme of the story.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Whilst ingame heads of staff are responsible for being the leadership of the station. To elaborate they should not just be extra crew members with higher pay and access, instead they must keep their department functional and in check. In addition to this, they should bring co-operation between departments, encourage organisation and lead by example on how to properly deal with situations that may arise. They should also be competent within their department for obvious reasons. They need to be able to assist in general tasks and ensure that everything runs smoothly and contributes to the overall functionality of the station. For example Chief Medical Officers need to be able to perform any role within medical at least somewhat effectively enabling them to assist and get what needs to be done done; Heads of Security should be familiar of the officer roles below them meaning they understand the pros and cons of each officer's role and their individual specialties. They should be able to lead in times of need to keep the station as a whole safe. This goes for every head of staff position. Due to them being the backbone of the station's organisation and ability to respond effectively to incidents all heads must be knowledgeable on their chosen field and be aware of their responsibility of leading their teams to conduct their duties effectively and safely. The flow and balance of the round is also heavily in their control. They must not overstep their boundary's (and ensure their team members don't either) to make sure that other crew members (and antags for that matter) have enough room to breathe and get stuff done within the round which can develop the round's narrative.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: As well as being in character leaders heads of staff also due to this have authority over other player's characters. Because of this they're responsible for the development of other's characters in some sense. If played correctly a head of staff can inspire a player to flesh out their character and story to a much more fulfilling and interesting narrative. It can make or break a player's experience. They must take into consideration their team and other crew's wants and needs and take them seriously. Heads of staff should also take into consideration each player's level of experience. For instance assisting and mentoring those who require it and letting those who are confident in their role get on with it independently. To uphold these responsibilities I'd aim to ensure all players get a compelling and fun experience that round and help mentor the growing, newer players and characters. I personally would attempt to ensure the highest level of RP from my side, enabling further development and progression to other's stories as well as my own.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Elliot Proctor

Character age: 30

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born on the fourth of August 2429 within the southern section of Ireland, moreover within the small town of Killeshandra, Elliot was a healthy child through out his early life. During his childhood Elliot spent the majority of his time strumming instruments and bowing a violin, this lead to a number of short employments within local bars and restaurants entertaining guests and travelers in his later life. However Elliot's earlier times were somewhat troublesome. His farther and mother divorced in secret at the tender age of nine, his farther leaving the household and having little contact with him. Elliot and his mother had a strained relationship at the best of times due to the monetary issues arising from his farther's departure. This lead Elliot to move out of the household pre-maturely. He left at age sixteen continuing his work in local entertainment positions.

Once Elliot turned twenty he had become reluctant to continue working as a musician for low level pay in less than pleasant surroundings. This lead to a brief section of his life where he learned the ins and outs of running a bar and creating beverages. Elliot then applied and was accepted to become a bartender aboard the NSS Aurora. He payed better than the positions back home and allowed him to meet new and interesting people. After sometime doing this an unfortunate event unfolded; although he did not know it at the time, a Syndicate agent had boarded the station and begun taking hostages. Unknowingly Elliot barged in on the situation, having his right arm severely burned by the weapon the man was wielding. The lead to Elliot having his arm amputated and replaced with an advanced prosthetic. With the compensation he received he attended the New Seoul Combat Training Centre on his home planet, majoring in Organizational Leadership, hoping to become a member of the ISD aboard the Aurora. And with work and time, he did. He joined as a security guard in hopes to prevent further harm to people aboard. Now Elliot has worked many roles within the ISD and has been mentored by Heads of Security and a handful of Captain about leadership, loyalty and dedication. In recent days he's been hopeful on a promotion to the position of Head of Security aboard the Aurora to further the safety and security of its crew.

What do you like about this character?: I like this character as he is well rounded and a decent person over all. He is empathetic and a understanding person, I enjoy this as it allows me to help out other players and mentor cadets.

What do you dislike about this character?: What I dislike about this character is his darker side, he would gladly sacrifice one life to save two others. This can lead him to be somewhat cold in situations despite only wanting what is best for those around him.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think from and in character point of view he has had experience being mentored by command staff to be fit for the position if he was accepted . He's rational, calculated but still understanding of those around him.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I'd say I'm fairly good at RP in general. On the best of days I can really get into my characters and immerse myself in the story allowing me to RP as them better. Overall I feel I'm competent at the worst of times, and an interesting player to be around.

Extra notes: My only note worthy extra would be this "mentoring from command staff" was not just an OOC character story decision. I have gone out my way to do this in-game during regular rounds to further add to the narrative of Elliot attempting to prove himself as a worthy HoS.

Elliot makes an Elliot character huh HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

While I don't interact with most of Elliot's characters much, I do see him volunteer his time and effort as part of the CCIA team nearly every day. He's enthusiastic, willing to learn, considerate of other players, and is typically engaged with a round he or his agent is a part of. He's called out taking care of the player experience, giving room to the crew and to antags, and being considerate of the narrative of the round at large, which reassures me that he'd be a good fit for the whitelist.

My real name isn’t even Elliot, you’ve been catfished. ;)

On a more serious note thanks for the feedback, it’s very much appreciated!

A few days ago I was investigating Elliot Proctor for pulling an injured cook from somewhere near the holodeck all the way to the medical bay, making him bleed to death in the process. I was very close to making an IR about it, but decided not to and instead made one about how Cameron Richard (the cook) was mistreated after he was cloned.

I would like you to explain your actions regarding this incident. I despise this kind of behavior from all players, and much more if it were to come from a whitelisted member.

To clean up the reasoning of this, when I first came upon the man he was not heavily bleeding and seemed by all accounts stable. In addition, at this time there were reports of many armed hostiles on the surface (the man had just come out of the elevator) and I wished to get him as far from the intruders as possible in case a combat were to break out. Due to this fact I dragged him to prevent any further harm to himself and potential medical staff that would have to respond.

As an extra note to this, although I do not know the exact circumstances around his death, when I dragged him into medical he was alive whilst I was still present. I ensured that the man got immediate help on arrival and I had assumed he was fine until, at least twenty minutes later, I was informed of his death.

As someone who also plays medical I can see the frustration this may have caused you, but as mentioned, he wasn't heavily bleeding and hostiles were present nearby.

I hope that cleans up your concerns.

There are a few decent wardens.

He´s one of them.

So definitly a no, since we cant loose another warden that knows what he´s doing.

Overall I had some nice experiences with them.

Def. whitelist material

Thanks for your feedback, I'll make sure to continue playing warden when I get the time. ;)

Just finished being this guys body guard as trp, seems to know his way around words. Also knows what the hell playing a violin is called, i will be giving this high speed low drag hos candidate a big thumbs up so he can see how horrible being a head of staff is.

I don't really remember interacting with Elliot in character, so do take my response with a slight pinch of salt.

They were the first person who adopted me when I joined the CCIA, and were incredibly helpful and patient when they were dealing with someone who was stupid enough to be me. Extremely respectful, even more helpful, and overall a good person, if there are not any overwhelming impairs to their RP, I doubt they'd be unfit for a Head of Staff.

As Aurora's resident violinist I ensure top notch terminology. More seriously however I do appreciate your feedback and your company whilst I conduct my CCIA business.
